While I don't understand the line policy (letting lines grow long even when the inside is empty?), the Echoplex seems pretty cool. Make sure you don't have a faulty GPS system because we ended up at the totally wrong location and had to follow this guy on foot through a jungle of pissy concrete. The stage and general layout of the Echoplex is roomy but still comfortably intimate. Swanky looking bar/lounging area/bathrooms (oh my god, MORE than three stalls?). Went here for the Bud Light John Mayer Dive Bar Tour and it was great! Obviously not a dive bar but it was in the spirit of things but there was a bar and music! Venue was hot because of bodies and lights but if you could manage to stand beneath one of the AC vents not so bad. Not sure about "real" events held here but this one was fantastic! read more

You know how in those fancy restaurants there's someone in the bathroom sitting there to hand you a fluffy towel to dry your hands with and to make sure the counter is dry? Well, the Echoplex has one of those, too, only she pulls paper towels from the dispenser and expects a tip. She ruins my trip to the Echoplex every time. When I'm here for a rock show, what the hell do I need some lady handing me paper towels for? Dang! Paper towel lady aside, the Echoplex is decent. The DJ is awkwardly placed in the center, in the ideal standing-spot for those of us who aren't into being jumped all over (I haaaaaate when they let the kids in), which is mildly irritating but I guess I can get over it. I guess being in that location serves some kind of logistical purpose that I'm unaware of. Sound has always been pretty good when I've gone. Sometimes they have those hipster dance parties but hipsters don't dance, so the outside area gets pretty crowded with people pretending they're taking a rest/smoke-break from those slick moves. I could say it's pathetic that they paid $15 to smoke, but I paid $15 to watch them smoke (hipster hunting, you know), so that's probably just as, if not even more, pathetic. The most convenient thing about the Echoplex is that it has two bars and some cocktail servers who take your order from outside, so you don't even have to stand in line (if you're lucky). read more

I finally made it to the Echoplex a few nights ago. - They did a very good job in building it as a music venue. Excellent sight lines of the stage even toward the back and the sides. Kinda dark and got hot inside though. - Two bar areas. It wasn't too crowded to order a drink but it was an all ages show the night I was there. There's some seating away from the stage to take a load off your feet or to have a chat with someone. - The sound from the audio system is loud but a bit distorted. - I was able to find street parking. I believe there is a city parking lot nearby. - NOTE: Although the Echoplex space is below the Echo, it has its own separate entrance on Glendale Blvd, not on Sunset Blvd. Surprise! Glendale Blvd crosses underneath Sunset Blvd. Be sure to park on Glendale Blvd and not above on Sunset. Otherwise you would have to take some stairs located across the street from the Echo on Sunset to get down to Glendale Blvd. Or walk around the block off of Lemoyne. read more

I have only been to the Echoplex once. I saw Los Abandoned here not long ago for their brief reunion after they broke up some two or three years ago or so. It was a great show right around Dia de Muertos. Los Abandoned are still a very energetic and talented band. I miss them so much! The fact Echoplex brought this band from the dead makes me really like it! I do not care about acoustics and all that sort of thing. What matters is the quality of bands a venue brings around and Echoplex does a really great job. The Echoplex is pretty big for an alternative music venue. Parking can be hell but this night I found parking not too far away. There is a bar. The night I was here there were street food vendors. It's very hard to find this place if you are not familiar with the area. The street this venue is on goes under a bridge and that bridge is for Cesar Chavez Ave. I don't know how to give directions so all I will do here is warn anyone who reads this review. I have seen other bands that I like play here! Great place! read more

I've only been to the Echoplex for DUB CLUB, of which I was a huge fan! So happy that places like this exist on the east side. The place is usually packed with an eclectic mix of human beings. Was here for the first time at 143s but I guess your experience may vary depending on the event. I always wanted to check out 143s, and was excited for the resident DJs and R&B babymaking songs that were promised. First things first: the security here is amazing. I asked how long the wait was, and one chill guy was like "hold on" - he went to his manager and tried to get me a wristband to bypass the line! Unfortunately, they were out, but I really appreciated the gesture. Later, this dude got way too angry-drunk whilst throwing up and all of the security guards were nothing but nice to him, holding him back and giving him water even when he was trying to fight them. They're all really funny and chill, unlike some of the disgusting misogynistic hypermasculine guards that tend to pervade LA nightclubs. So a big shoutout to them. Parking: there's a parking lot but I think it was for like staff only? Parking is definitely a pain, but if you drive around the area for a while and look really hard you could get lucky. Line: 143 line is always really long apparently. Got there around 10:30, didn't get into club until 12. Meh. Venue: Roomy dance floor with an outdoor smoking area. Definitely felt a bit divey but chill. Too bad everything was WET with spilled drinks all over the floor and water leaking right over the stage. Please do not drop anything into the abyss, who knows what strange diseases/curses you'll pick up. Drinks are $17, p strong imo but definitely not cheap aha Crowd: Pretty young crowd for this events that consisted of mostly Asian fuckboys and tryhards. I mean, some people (esp the girls) were slaying, but there were also tons of thirsty creeps. If that's what you're into. Dress fresh or to impress to fit in. Music: I was a little disappointed by the music but maybe because I got in so late. The R&B portions were just wrapping up and I wasn't able to get all in my feels. There were still a lot of hip hop crowd pleasers, but there was definitely more to be desired, since a big focus of this event is on the music rather than just turning up. Overall three stars, I'd return if I was in the area but wouldn't go out of my way again to come. read more

I'm not sure if it was the venue itself or the odd event that was occuring there that made my night at the Explx interesting. The venue: sort of connected to the Echo (through a maze of back alleys and a couple of smoking patios and far too many hipsters), is large, low-ceiliinged, with a stage. The venue itself is big enough, so that you don't have to be shoulder to shoulder with everyone unless you are close to the stage. There is a moderate number of places to sit oddly enough. Actually a nice venue for music (although the sound is a little messed up and can hurt your ears, much like the Roxy). The event: a rochambeaux tournament: the Rock Paper Scissors Rumble 5. People in costume getting all serious about rock paper scissors? With striped shirt donning refs and all? Hilarious. The Left Hand of Darkness, I believe, was the victor of the night. Many hipsters abound and free ice cream so a good time was had by all! Parking: park behind the echo/explx where you usually park for the Echo. Plenty of spaces and it's free. Fine, you have to walk a few blocks, but isn't free parking worth it? Oh, and the hot dog lady is right outside the Echo on Sunset so you can grab a nasty (but oh so good) hot dog on your way to your car. read more

First off, the place is dark. Very dark. If you're not near the stage, you will have no problem bumping into things which I tend to do on a regular basis, anyway. Next, finding the place is almost like a scavenger hunt. Like most reviews here, this is not the Echo. That's the easy one to find right on Sunset. This is all the way around and you end up walking around 10 minutes just to get there. And once you do, there's a guy selling street food. Actually four buck veggie dogs. Needless to say, I passed on this. The place is dark but the place is big. Makes me wonder how much larger the Echo is by comparison. Two bars with one in the back and one near the stage to the opposite end of the entrance. Major kudos to having a water dispenser at each bar with lots of cups to serve yourself all the water you want. That's something you simply don't see at most clubs and it's probably the most noticeable item I found at the Echoplex. Also kudos to working something out with Two Boots Pizza to offer slices of pizza and we're not talking just plain and pepperoni here. All sorts of specialty pizza slices abound and the Bayou Blast slice I ordered was the same price as the pepperoni. Good value here and big slice. Only problem I waited around 20 minutes for one slice and I was almost finished my drink. Speaking of drinks, they've got an OK selection of beer including Old Chub on draft. PBR will cost you four and Stone IPA will be double that. Not awful for LA. Sightlines are good. I spent a lot of time in back and I could see the show just fine. I didn't need to look at the monitor. The stage is well lit. The only well lit area of the place. Seeing two huge disco balls brought it down for me a bit. This isn't 1979. Overall, good venue. Echoplex a place to see cool local bands and at time big name artist. There is lots of small shops and eateries around the venue in case you want to grab a bite beforehand. Security tends to be tight yet friendly which is not the case in most places. Once you are inside you get hypnotize by music and you loose your self...ha-ha - I sounded like if I was high....lol Great place to go have fun specially on Thur say nights. read more

What a great venue, especially compared to the echo which is right above it. It's much more spacious with seating scattered at the center of the venue. From what I remember, two bars, one at the back and one at the side. All and all, great venue with a great feel to it. The entrance for this joint is on Glendale Blvd., which is the street beneath Sunset. From the echo's entrance, you'd have to cross the street and walk diagonally to your left and take the stairs that reek the smell of urine. AAAH the sour smell of urine, oh does it bring back memories (don't ask). Then you'll have to cross the street again, in which you are now directly underneath sunset and hang a left into the first alleyway you see. If this was a few years back, and i told you to hang a left into any alleyway in Echo Park, you'd think i was crazy. Boy oh boy has the neighborhood changed. read more

I love this place & the vibe it emits. I've been to both the echo and echoplex many times and I've never had a bad time :) They have a wide variety of artists that come & perform - from weird indie electro to food fighting folk to silly mashups. Super cool & super chill! The echoplex has 2 bars (1 in the back, 1 Near the patio), a smoking patio (really spacious), a big dance floor, and comfortable seats (towards the back next to the bar). I love that this venue is small enough to be intimate, but bit enough to have enough room to dance. I love coming here for their bootie mashups - for $10, you can dance your ass off & have fun with other people dancing their asses off that are not pretentious or douchey. Had fun here dancing to Reggae music. 1st floor is way too hot. Be prepared to work up a sweat if you stay down there. Not sure why they don' t put A/C in there. The 2nd floor however has A/C and much more comfortable. $10 cover charge, free before 10pm. Music is good and the people seem down to earth. I'd return if given the opportunity. read more

Do you like NPR? How about the show This American Life? Then you need to check out an amazing podcast/radio show called The Moth. The Moth is a non profit organization dedicated to the art of storytelling. These are people who get up on stage with an open mic, no notes, no stopwatch, and tell stories from their life based on different themes within a 5 minute time frame. The Moth podcast is downloaded over one million times a month so check it out. Last night The Echoplex was home to the GrandSLAM Moth Championship XIX known as Into the Wild, the theme being stories that had to be told relating to the wild. This is what makes The Echoplex such a cool venue because not only is it home to fantastic bands and music shows but they also do cool stuff like being host to a Moth event. This event sold out to several hundred people and the line to buy standing room only tickets stretched around the side of the block. This is typical with a lot of performances at the Echoplex because it is such a popular venue in a popular part of LA. If you see something you want to check out here you might buy your ticket in advance just in case. The inside is spacious with a huge bar in the back. The bar is full bar and they do accept credit cards with a $10 minimum. You can order pizza, salads and sandwiches from the bartender that will be delivered to the bar from Two Boots. The only downside to The Echoplex is parking. There is very limited parking in the area and the valet is expensive costing $10-$20 to valet! Plus the valet line is super crazy after a show so try to cab, get dropped off or seek out some killer street parking within a comfortable walking distance. I can't wait to be back for more shows. Don't forget to also look for good stuff coming from the smaller sister venue The Echo. read more

If I thought one-night stands were a good idea, I think I'd go here to find one. Most of the club was so dark that even with my glasses, I coudn't see anyone, and the lights they had were red. Slightly creepy, but as I cautiously walked through the dark areas, I noticed benches and nooks, which seemed like a good place for drunk people to hook up. You can thank me for the tip later. Speaking of drinking, the bartender made my Shirley Temple strong, which I like: if I'm gonna be drinking sugar, gimme a lot. And I asked for a lot of cherries and was given seven! $3. Yes, I just reviewed a soda, and I saved a hell of a lot more money than you, Drinky McBoozerson! The dance floor looked fairly well-sized, and I don't recall what the DJ was playing - it was a Derby Dolls afterparty, and some show had just let out and it was already midnight, and the floor was really sticky and I was nervous because I couldn't see anything. I ended up spending most of my time on the smoking patio talking to people. Tip to help out with the darkness indoors: having friends wear uniforms with their player numbers really helps. Came last night for Down & Derby! Parking was a breeze. Parked on Park Ave, next to the lake. It's a small walk to get to the Echoplex, definitely beats the $8 valet parking. My best friend and I had so much fun. We RSVP'd online so we would get a discounted cover of $5 -- it's $10 without. Went up to the door and the lady checked for our names on the list, but couldn't find them. But she was so nice, she just charged us $5 anyway. Major points right there. Got in line to rent our skates, another $5. Sat down and laced them up after hiding my shoes behind some bins full of skates. I haven't rollerskated in years and I was beyond terrible, I fell down a couple of times but some of the patrons were nice enough to help me up and ask me if I was okay. A lot of people were dressed in 70's garb so I didn't feel like a complete idiot in my red velour romper. There were two or three photographers standing on the sidelines, just taking pictures of people having fun. I didn't drink anything -- not that I needed to. If I had mixed alcohol with skates, I would have probably busted my head wide open. Lots of people were skating around with drinks in hand and there was a small spill, but it was easy enough to avoid. The music was great. After we returned our skates, we went up near the stage and joined an impromptu dance party. All in all, the Echoplex is amazing for hosting such a great event like Down & Derby. Warning: ALWAYS ... and I mean ALWAYS carry some cash or beware of a particular blonde bartender who will always give herself a tip without consent!! This happens to be one of the few times here seeing an act/ show, or what have you. I was celebrating two birthdays (turning 26 & 28) at the Eric Andre live show. Ordered drinks only to have a catty female bartender snub me while she served everyone around me. I called my boyfriend to come over and help with the drinks because I was sure I was going to get served soon. NOPE! She goes over and asks my boyfriend instead. That got me pretty pissed. He points to me telling her, "She was her before me." I lean over ordering as many drinks as my hands could carry (count 'em 2) for my party. She goes over to give me only one drink saying she has no idea who I'm going to give them. So out of fear she demand for my ID. Already pretty frustrated at her mediocrity I proceed to give her my ID to quicken the transaction. Since when do they card twice if you already have a wristband??? According to her, I look really underage and she suspects I wanted to give them to under aged kids. I flipped and rightfully so I took my receipt with me without signing hers and gave her a fat "0" for a tip. Next day, I found out she took out an unauthorized $2 tip. FOR THE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD she's absolutely ruthless and impolite! Discrimination for looking young ... new concept! Perhaps I should also attribute this experience to all the naive, inexperienced youngies who ruin it for the people who have the right to drink at a place like this. read more

I really like EchoPlex. I don't understand the h8? I love that they have good local bands (and sometimes not so local bands) to perform here. The venue is really small but there are spaces in the back where you can hang out if you choose to not participate in the crowds. It never gets too pricey to come in here. I think the most I've paid for tickets is under $15. I am DONE paying $150 per person to The Forum for nosebleed seats if I want to see a band play. This is the anti-Forum or Staples type establishments to see a band play. Yes, it isn't perfect, i wish that their ceiling was higher so that I could see the band all the way in the back, but all things considered, I think The Echo and Echoplex are both really important to developing local LA music talent. read more

Venue was great. The seating was awesome because there were plenty of booths along the walls to hang out in while waiting for the show. There is a full bar and if you go with friends, you won't get bored while waiting for the show to start. A lot of people hung out in the venue or outside in the smoking area. The space was bigger than I thought it would be from the outside. We went to see Tanlines and the show started basically on schedule. This made it easy to get a good place near the stage right on time. I was able to get front row for this show. The sound was great, the crowd was great, it was an awesome experience. The stunning Vanessa H had tix for The Enormous Extinct Dinosaur (T.E.E.D.) and asked if I wanted to go later that evening. I love checking out new music but I already plans that night that I couldn't break. She left the door open that if I were to make it they might still be available. "Sweet!" I was in DTLA and just out of curiosity, even though I hadn't given her a definite answer earlier in the day about her spare ticket, I wanted to see how far the Echoplex was from where I was coming. Hmm, google maps says it's only 2.5 miles away. Instantly, I thought "Well it looks like I'm going to a concert tonight!"Llucky enough, the tix were still available. I've always known of the Echoplex but I've never been inside and this was the most opportune time especially when your company is VH! When we got into the place we instantly were freezing although after a very long hot week, I couldn't appreciate the blast ice cold air more. As the place filled up that cold air was no where to be found. It got a bit muggy. Those were trivial things as we were captivated by Anna Lunoe's set, she was so perfect as an opener for T.E.E.D.. I could have just heard all night and would have been pleased. We bobbed our heads, threw our hands up in the air, and swayed our bodies to her music. The next act sounded like background music you find in today's hip hop, granted the guy had a devote following of youngsters but I wasn't thoroughly impressed. Just not my cup of tea. Finally, a man in a dinosaur costume walked onto the stage and the crowd exploded. T.E.E.D. had arrived! The drinks range from liquor to beer. I was told by V that they served her poison STRONG. Also, she spotted they serve food from Two Boots. Would I be back? Yes sir! read more

They said my bf and I were on the guest list to see Los Campesinos with the Parenthetical Girls and had a special were you could get cheap/free tickets if you liked the "The Echo" on Facebook. Big surprise, we weren't on the guest list. What a scam. The things folks will do to get you to like them on Facebook. The tickets to this place can be over priced at times as well. I'm shocked that this is LA's idea of a dive bar. Last I checked dive bars didn't have large lines in front of them, guest lists, valets, and over priced tickets. Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure dive bars aren't desperate to get "likes" on Facebook. Come here only if you really like and know the band that is playing. Not only is this place all the stuff I mentioned just now, but its located in a very inconvenient spot. When someone lists that the "Echoplex is right below the Echo" common sense would expect that perhaps there would be some easy to access staircase leading you below to the spot, which is not the case. You have to walk to the next light, (or cross in the middle if you're brave) and go down the staircase near the bridge, and walk under the bridge. I would have just preferred to not have gone though all that just to be told that we weren't on the list. The poor girl at the door couldn't keep track of all the promo's they were doing. You would think as a professional venue they could atleast have their stuff together. I've seen DIY's better run. I will be unliking your unorganized ass on Facebook now. I came here on a Thursday night for the Down & Derby...have you ever dreamed about roller skating to 80's music in a full bar? Well, your dream has come true! On Thursday, this place is definitely a cool "club" where you can dance to music while on wheels. It's awesome. Definitely a diverse crowd with people from their early twenties to forties. Everyone is there just to have fun. No one cares if you accidentally collide with anyone or jeers if you fall on your ass. The Echoplex isn't very crowded and it's a smaller venue. There's plenty of places to sit and rest. Full bar...while roller skating. Enough said. The admission is $10, but $5 if you RSVP online. Another $5 for the roller skates. read more

I really like this venue a lot. There is plenty of public parking in the neighborhood. The place has an intimate setting and you can really get up close to the stage if you choose to take on that task. Drinks are reasonable? They really keep the place cool with the fans and the A/C going. For the smokers the outside patio/main entrance is large enough so you won't be bumping elbows. With the HOB getting closed down I hope to see more of my hiphop acts book this place. I'm really looking forward to coming back here. "Dude she's suuuper cute" "Where?" "By the pillar" (We re-locate to the pillar) "Dude....That's. A dude." I came here this past weekend for a Miami Horror, Geographer, Superhumanoids concert. The above was a dialogue between my buddy and me at one point during the show. It's a dark venue, good for being anonymous, and hiding pit stains if you're raging, but make sure you exercise the double take. In his defense she was a tranny, but it could have gotten weird QUICK with how many beverages he'd already had. I like the set-up of this venue a lot. The design of the place is set-up with the stage as the main attraction, with a main bar directly at the south end of the room, and a smaller bar is located on the west side. Free cups and filtered water dispensers at the bars? How thoughtful. Next to the main bar, there is ample seating for lounging/conversing and given it's the farthest point from the stage, you might have a chance to hold a convo w/o screaming into one another's ears. WTF?: All mirrors in the bathroom are blacked out and therefore useless to fix up and look sharp. Wildcard Factor!: There is a painting of the KFC Kernel Sanders (not to be confused with a colonel) shirtless and wearing a thong. Can you find him?? read more

a small club in echo park... parking is BOOOOOO! street only, and you have to hunt it down. the city has a 2:00am curfew, so everyone has to be like GONE by that time including the food trucks and vendors.. etc.. the patio down stairs is a little cramped, but inside is bad.. lots of seating and from what i saw, two bars.. someone told me they have another patio upstairs that is nicer. the stage was big enough and the sound was great.. saw White Lies at Culture Collide. Just be careful leaving because it is rather rough.. over all I give the venue itself a 3 -the show was great though. seeing bands in a smaller venue like this can be great, once they hit, you won't have that chance again.. :) read more

Decent Venue. Small room with low ceilings a medium sized stage and a couple of bars on either end of the room. Smoking patio stage right. Drinks were cheap by venue standards, 15 bucks for two beers and a shot. Sound quality was good, not too loud but loud enough, solid not muddy at all. Located down on Glendale Blvd, just look for the line on the street to find it. I will return. read more

It doesn't look like much from the outside, hidden off to the side of some nondescript buildings and almost underneath a nearby overpass in Echo Park. And once you finally get inside, it doesn't look like much there either. It's mostly black if memory serves, though I might be way off from all the booze and spacious, and the building appears oddly shaped and seemingly quite wide. The bars are difficult to get drinks from when it gets busy, but the drinks themselves are pretty inexpensive for a nightclub which always gets an extra star. We were there to see The Budos Band on a recommendation from a friend who likes them, but I won't hold that against the venue. The sound was good, though maybe our proximity to the speakers didn't help with the overbearing horns. The crowd was mostly hipsternerdcool but that could be the bands following and not typical. Only been here on Wednesday nights for "Dub Club". GREAT MUSIC, GREAT VIBES!!!! This is my fave club...everybody is so chill & no drama. It gets pretty crowded and everybody's nice but some drunk creepers are always gonna be trying to dance with you if you're a girl (esp a group of girls) but they're not all creepers. =] Live music on most nights but cover is more expensive on those nights when they have special guests. Free if you go early enough or $5 or $10 depending on who's playing that night. Parking is a BIT scary cuz it's near echo park but valet is only like $5 i believe so totally worth not walking by yourselves in those streets if you're a group of girls. I hit up the EchoPlex on Wednesdays for the Dub Club. I dig the venue because it's spacious, yet the sounds still hit hard. This is the spot to go if you want to get down with some serious dub/reggae/dancehall and not deal with any Hollywood lames. The only drawback is that if you come later they keep you posted in a line for a minute. You know how it is.... The one drawback is the drinks though. They rock those small ass plastic cups that look like they barely hold 8 ounces. I like to indulge in the herb over drinks, but it;s wack having my Red Stripe poured into those dinky cups. If you see a Black guy with black Polo glasses then say wassup, especially if you're down for your herb. I usually bring a little somethin' somethin' to enhance the festivities and as they say, sharing is caring. read more

was there for last month's moth grand slam. pros: - large floor space. - clean bathroom - full bar - parking structure right next door offered free parking (i think???). i mean, we parked there, werent charged, ticketed, or towed. maybe it's only free during the week after business hours - small patio out back for the smokers - couches along the back area cons: - scored seats very close to the stage which was great. the problem? the AC ducts emptied right onto us. our seats actually had signs warning us. my friend and i decided to just bear it since they were such great seats, but brrrr it was chilly. i actually moved my chair up and was nearly spooning the lady in the chair in front of me, so i could try to avoid much of the AC as possible. would i come again? sure. read more

Yes, tis is a cool place. Again, I don't know much about sound but I know what I like and I like this place. This particular night (3.13.09) my lady friend and I got to see Gram Rabbit. The crowd had a generally nice and welcomey vibe, without much pretense. Yes, I was shocked. Working our way to the front of the crowd was effortless, since the crowd seemed so okay with everything that was thrust upon it. That being said, going home with a parting gift of bunny ears....definite star worthy. It took us longer than the average bear to get to the joint, being that I was a dumbass that didn't bring an address and even though we had 4 devices amongst us, we still had trouble. Here's a lil tip, the entrance to the Echoplex is located on Glendale, just be prepared to walk uphill through an alley. You'll know you're there by the Veggie hot dog stand on the sidewalk. I think they also offer valet parking. Inside, I'd say it's a combination between The Empty Bottle and The Rivera/Aragon. It's got a bigger stage than the Bottle, but has smaller crowds like the Bottle. No potato beer though, but cute bartenders with nice heavy pours. (Yes this part was only for those who know Chicagoland sheit) I'm now seriously thinking Echo Park might be the place for me. read more

I think my favorite thing about the Echoplex is that the woman outside selling hotdogs on a cart offers veggie dogs. My whole life I've aspired to be one of those people that gets a hot dog on the street late at night and FINALLY I've found the woman to make that dream come true. I went to the Echoplex for an Of Montreal show in 2006, shortly after they opened. It was mediocre at best. A HUGE space, but fairly empty at the time, and the road to the bathroom was long and confusing (not at all what you want to worry about at a concert venue). But I just recently attending the MIA show here, and I must say that they really cleaned up the place. The new decor was great (much less empty-feeling), and on either side of the stage they put up two wide screens onto which they projected cheesy kung-fu movies for the duration of the opening DJ's set (it was much appreciated - he was a pretty boring DJ). There are two bars, one near the stage and the other much further back, so people can either grab a drink and rush back to the stage or stay in the spacious lounge area and chat. Not a bad setup, if I may say so myself. The lineup isn't as consistently good as, say, Spaceland, but then again hardly anything is. My biggest complaint about the Echoplex is that, although most shows are 18 and over (I think), I've still run into more than my fair share of obnoxious teenagers there. But overall, I think they've turned it into a really nice, spacious, and inviting venue. read more
