*This review is only for the 143 event.* The line is disorganized, amateur-like, and kills your vibe. Don't bother coming here, everyone "knows the DJ" so you just watch the security guards reluctantly let these folks in while feeling bad for those in the line that wrapped around the corner. We got there at 10pm, got in around 12:10AM (on a ... Thursday), and by the time you get in here, it isn't worth it anymore to even stay because you realize half the venue space is empty and the lines are just a result of whoever is managing this event's line entry. I get trying to build the hype, but all this did is cause everyone around us to leave. The event was also pretty mediocre, there were more people on stage "with the DJ" than on the floor dancing. Don't waste your time. I've waited in far quicker and more efficient lines for BootieLA on Saturdays here, this event is trying way too hard. Definitely not coming back. read more

I was here last week catching S U R V I V E live and it was a cool show. I did not realize at the tie but I've been here once before but that was about 5 years ago. The set was great, the drinks were stiff, and a good time was had by all. The entrance is technically on Glendale Blvd and is below the overpass on Sunset. If you parked on Sunset and need to walk it they have a pedestrian stairway across the street from The Echo. It's easy. Here's hoping they have more cool shows for me to see. They tend to start later, as well. read more

I went here to see the Rebirth Brass Band one night and it was so much fun! This place was pretty spacious and I was also glad to see they had two bars and a good number of bathroom stalls (which are both very important for me to keep going HAHA). They also have a photo booth, and seating along the walls for those who want to rest their feet and butts. I went here again for 143 (R&B party) and I didn't have much fun. The lines are ridiculous... We got there at 8:30 PM and didn't get in until an hour later. Security is mean! We spent more time in line than at the club, mainly because it was kind of lame haha. Maybe I'm just getting too old and I like going to jazz concerts more. Also the scene was super young... Despite my time at 143, I still liked the venue and wouldn't definitely come back for another show! read more

Saw Jambinai here on a Friday night. Venue wasn't super packed but it was nice and cool. Kudos to whomever was on lighting tonight because that shit was amazing, 11/10. Sound was also absolutely on point. Everyone came through so clearly. It's obvious that the technical people at the echoplex know their stuff. That being said, shots were 10$ each so yea that kinda sucked, but I understand that's life and that's how you make money. read more

Just had my second bad experience at this venue. I didn't have a good experience last time because the music this venue said was going to play did not play. We also had trouble seeing (which is weird because we're tall) because the ceiling has this low beam that gets in the way. But I thought I'd give the venue a second try. This time the artists were fantastic, but the venue felt so overcrowded because of the setup they have. The stage is too low, so if you're short, good luck seeing anything. There is also a low ceiling for more than half of the venue, so if you are towards the back, past the beam (same beam from the first time but I avoided in the second time) where the low ceiling starts, then you will not be able to see the artists. I think the reason this venue feels so crowded is because there's only a small space where you can actually see the artists, so everyone is pushing to stand there. I don't think this venue has a great setup for concerts in general. Would not recommend. read more

My reggae-fan roomie loves to go to Dub Club on Wednesdays, and I recently decided to join her, so this review just pertains to that specific event. I'm not an expert by any means but as a reggae layperson, I have to say I really love this place! It's definitely the most relaxed and easygoing dance club situation I've ever been in. Where else can you witness two big guys bumping into each other then proceeding to spend about a minute saying sorry, bro, my bad bro?! Even when I was driving around the block looking for parking (not easy, by the way), some random drunk people started trying to coach me how to parallel park. I chose not to be offended that they would assume that I didn't know how to as an Asian girl, and instead was amused by their helpfulness. Once inside, the niceness continued. It was pretty darn crowded for a Wednesday night but we were easily able to score a spot on the couches by the back bar when we wanted to hang out, and it wasn't too much of a hassle getting closer to the stage when we wanted to dance. The lines for the bar took a while, but again, it was the friendliest, most cooperative mass of people waiting for drinks that I'd ever seen. As for the crowd, it was extremely mixed - everyone from hardcore reggae fans to those who looked like they were dressed for a 'real' club and seemed a bit out of place, but looked like they were having fun nonetheless. My single guy friend lamented the lack of attractive girls, but really what do you expect? This is more a place to come with your friends and enjoy some good music and a beer rather than pick up on some stuck up girls in minidresses. read more

I had been to this venue before for Bootie LA and had a good enough time. However, my experience here this past Saturday has made me hesitant to ever return to the Echoplex. As soon as we exited out vehicle, the two bouncers working the line began to yell at us to form a line, even though there were only two people on the sidewalk (we arrived early). We followed orders, and as everyone walked through, the bouncers made distasteful remarks about many of the patrons once they were out of earshot. I heard one of these, which happened to be about a friend, and I asked him to please not make such comments, as they were inappropriate and in poor taste. Once I entered the venue, I asked to speak to a manager to inform him/her of the unacceptable behavior of the bouncer. While waiting to speak to someone, the man was informed that I was waiting to speak to a manager and came over to verbally assault and physically threaten myself, my boyfriend, and another female friend. When he came over, he immediately put his face directly in my boyfriend's and began to verbally berate him. Despite me telling this man it was I who would be reporting him, not my boyfriend, he continued to physically provoke my boyfriend, telling him that his girlfriend [myself] was a "stupid, loudmouth b*tch" etc, etc. He kept saying "punch me in the face" to my boyfriend, because if my boyfriend were to physically assault him, the bouncer could legally fight back. Thankfully, my boyfriend was able to control himself, however, the man continued to verbally assault us. During all of this, not ONE employee who witnessed the event tried to protect us and remove the berate bouncer from attacking us. In fact, the man working the door to the venue backed up his coworker's shenanigans and called my boyfriend a "fagg*t" four times throughout the night (this other employee would later go on to cuss us out at the end of the night). About 15 minutes later, I was finally able to talk to a manager, Ray, who was very understanding and said he would "handle the situation." I believe the bouncer was sent home, but I will be calling the venue to ensure that he has been terminated. I honestly am concerned for my safety if I return to this venue and these employees have not been terminated. I have been a patron of this venue for over a year now, and cannot believe an establishment would permit their employees to treat patrons in this way. I am also not okay with a venue that allows their employees to use derogatory terms such as "fagg*t" so nonchalantly. This term should not be used, period. I know that performance troupes such as Bootie LA, who use this venue, would more than likely not be comfortable using a venue that allows their employees to use such language and treat patrons in this way, and I intend to contact them as well. If management of this establishment would like to contact me, please feel free. read more

For whatever reason, I recently thought it was a good idea to check out the talents of D-Styles, Abstract Rude, and Zion I at the Echoplex. Being my first time there, I was pleasantly surprised by the good sound system and divey bar prices. 1 bottled water + 2 vodka shots + 2 Coronas = $18. Yeah, you read it right. Unfortunately, I seemed to have forgotten that my days as a head-bobbin, b-boy lovin, "underground" mobbin girl were long gone. How can I protest The Man when I'm on my way towards getting my balls dropped and becoming one? Despite the large space, it was fairly empty and the "clientele" seemed pretty ghetto, especially the drunk back-packing youngin' who couldn't resist a "Dayam, yoo gurls luhk goooood. How YOO doin?" This place is really good. I saw Eyedea & Abilities perform here a couple of weeks back and had a blast. The club is big clean and very comfortable. The only real downside I can see is that parking is a hassle. We were lucky enough to find a parking spot right down the street, but considering the area it's in, probably isn't that great of an idea lol. Liquor is expensive inside, but I always pre-game, so that's not a big deal. read more

The Echoplex seems to specialize in oddly-named acts. The first time I was here was to see a band called Does It Offend You, Yeah? in 2008. The second time, last week, was to see a dude who calls himself Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. In that time they've switched from Ticketmaster to TicketWeb, which I appreciate for lower (but not completely eliminated) service fees. This time I had the pleasure of James S.'s company, who was fortunately in close proximity and able to join me on late notice. As far as venues go, this is a pretty sweet spot to see an intimate show. It's an open space with no seating, just a few counter-level tables placed by some of the (view-obstructing) columns in the back half of the room. The sound booth occupies a good amount of space in the middle of the room, so you might be a little limited in finding a "perfect" viewing spot. The sound system, however, is fantastic and the crowd seems to be pretty cool. As is the case with a lot of these smaller places, the A/C is never quite as good as you'd like it to be once everyone starts dancing, but that swampy madness can be part of the fun if you know what to expect. I ordered a rum & diet from the bar, and holy hell it was a strong drink. I do appreciate this for any drink that costs more than $8 in LA. The big minus here comes from finding the place, which is on Glendale and not Sunset. They make every effort to tell you that The Echoplex is UNDER the Echo, but with two different addresses on two different streets (and about a 10 minute walk from one to the other), and the wrong address on the part of TicketWeb, it's still easy to confuse. Parking is another big YUCK, and you're lucky to find nearby street parking on a busy night. Most people, I think, give up and valet. But overall this is a solid reason to come to Echo Park! read more

This review is based solely on 143. First off, this place is soooo overrated and it is definitely NOT worthy of your time. We got in line at 8:30pm (doors open at 9pm) and moved forward a GRAND total of 3 steps. Security sucks; they go super slow and don't even care when people cut. All the kids cut in line left and right and there were no barricades to even attempt to make the line a little more organized. The line was the width of the sidewalk, what the heck is that? And then on top of that, they have a $10 cover charge? Lol. 143 has become a joke. When it was at Los Globos, we got there at the same time and got in no problem. They need to organize the line and make sure no one cuts. I'll admit the music is so good at this event, but it will NEVER be worth standing in this line. Echoplex - Ridiculous, unorganized line. - Music Venues Near Me - Los Angeles, California

The Echoplex is almost as hard to find as The Echo, but don't be fazed- it will be totally worth it when you get there. There are two parts to this review- the venue itself, and the event that took place here. (Both were pretty awesome) 1. The venue. A little dingy, obscure and dark parking lot across the street from Citibank. Considering that you're valeting the car and walking five feet to get in line with a bunch of hipsters, I think safety should probably the last thing on your mind. It's really big inside- half of the place is a dance floor, there is a large stage, and the other half is a carpeted and slightly sweaty feeling bar/ lounge area. I love that the music isn't TOO loud, so when you do dance with someone, you can actually hear what their name is! 2. The event- Bootie LA. Get this- an event that happens the first sat of each month, and this weekend there was a pirate theme. Pirates!! And some people dressed to the nines- fake wig, parrot, pointy knives and all. Towards the end there was an amazing show where 20 people in all shapes and sizes danced in unison...wearing tight gold body suits...to a rapper. Only in LA. It was really funny, definitely something I've never seen before, and fun. The DJ's mashups were really good- 80's music mixed with Top 40 which surprisingly was easy to dance to. Nice. No mind boggling rap music (I can only do the fake rapper bounce/ head bob/hand gestures for so long and still look cool) Okay, how LA is this- a $4 veggie hot dog cart in front of the alley. read more

Even though I'm in my 30 somethings now, I've still enjoyed myself some good live music in a pseudo-club like atmosphere. The first thing you need to know about the Echoplex is that it's pretty tough to find if you're not familiar with the Echo Park area. It's close to under a bridge and if you're coming down Caesar/Sunset Blvd. You'll completely miss it. But at least this way you can have some hope of finding some residential/street parking. Though I guess you need to do some driving around for the parking, as it's generally a tricky issue every now and then with the chance of getting lucky and finding that one magical spot. The venue as a whole is pretty nice. The bar area has some decent drinks at a decent price. Which when you think of how badly a bar can screw you over in drink prices, this is a nice change of pace. The atmosphere here is pretty dark and sleek/stylish. So it's cool to chill and enjoy the music. If it's a headlining or mainstream popular line performing here, it can get pretty crowded. But then again, if you're not willing to put up with being arm to arm with some stranger for the intimate concert experience this venue brings, perhaps you've reached that age that you shouldn't be going to shows anymore. read more

I had the BEST time Friday night at the Echoplex. I had never been to this venue before but everything was pretty cool. The restrooms were clean (yay!) and there were no lines. There were comfy seats everywhere and if I didn't want to be close to the stage, I could have sat on them all night. Drinks seemed reasonably priced as well ($14.50 for Jameson on the rocks and a beer). Okay, maybe that's not so reasonable considering they served everything in plastic cups (they would pour your beer from glass bottles into plastic cups) but still, better than to be ripped a new one for a call liquor. It didn't hurt that my ticket was $12 and I got to see a whole slew of bands. I went for Henry Clay People and they had two opening bands including Fol Chen. It was the "Rock and Roll Circus" so everyone was encouraged to wear fake mustaches. They had at least 6 or 7 other bands playing the "side stages." They had free popcorn, sno-cones, cotton candy and a balloon guy (who later made a bass out of balloons- so awesome!). And I got a free CD! Security was pretty cool too even though I don't think the girl in front of me with the expired ID appreciated being kicked out for trying to bribe the guard. We parked in a lot and walked over (metered lots run until 10 p.m.). There's street parking down on Glendale by the lake but I would rather park off Sunset. read more

Review is for Wednesday nights @ Dub-club: If you're looking for a chill spot to have a few drinks, listen to nonstop reggae and dance hall, smoke a few joints and dance the night away, then I have good news for you. This is a great place for alllll of that and more. Seating is offered everywhere as it is not reserved for any bullshit vip/bottle service crap. And there's ice water and lemons in the back for your convenience. Dance floor is fairly sized, but you can dance anywhere as the venue is immense. One of my favorite spots to come out to. read more

You don't have to get all dressed up although there is the occasional SLUT wearing a mini skirt and heels. But thats ok =) If you're a girl your ass is going to be grabbed all night. Standard. This is one of my favorite venues in LA. I've been here for Dub Club, shows for reggae, hardcore, punk, and 90s indie rock. Very spacious with tables and seats scattered around. I like the lounge area in the back. Sometimes they'll project what's on the stage back there. Decent size patio with benches outside that smokers usually take over. No Ins and Outs! They use TicketWeb and not TicketMaster, so the service fee is only $2 for shows and club nights that cost from FREE to $20. They have a parking valet, but you don't need it when there's plenty of street parking or the free Echo lot upstairs. Full bar and they have beer on tap. If you're hungry, you can put in an order with the bar for Two Boots pizza located upstairs and they will bring it down for you. read more

My husband and I were here on Thursday 11/15 and were discouraged to see that we, too, were overcharged on our credit card by the bartender. Our copy of the receipt says"Mindy" but there was also a male bartender present. I am beginning to wonder if this is a common practice for them. Like the other reviewers, it was only by a few dollars but we will also fight this fraudulent charge through the bank once it clears our account on Monday. We have been here a handful of times and use to love the Echoplex and the bands it brings in. It will probably take an amazing band to get us to return now. Even with very specific directions, I passed this place up not twice, but FOUR TIMES. what in the world..... i hate driving! thank god for valet. bc i'm sure valet was only designed for overly sensitive schmucks like me who-- when the venue is FINALLY spotted, will pay just anything to fucking park and go into the damn place. that rant over... this place is located relatively close to the freeway, which is always good. we came here for Dawson's Joint Birthday Party. The event space is quite HUGE, with the sound systems everywhere. We were provided with specialty drinks (made in honor of the lovely birthday girl), at only 5 bucks a pop! And if things couldn't get better, there were three food trucks out there, giving away free samples to drunk yelpers. drunk yelpers and free ice cream is a match made in heaven really. the bouncer was SUPER sweet, which is one in a million. but yeah- unless you valet-- you're gonna enter a world of pain. the streets are kinda jank-- and good luck finding a spot. happy birthday again dawson...i know i'm 2 months late.. now... meh. good times. read more

Lord a' mercy. My friends brought me to Dub Club on a Wednesday and we had a blast. JRocc threw down while we drank cheap beer and danced the night away. What I really dug about this place was that it was super diverse and casual. Everyone seemed cool, but not too cool. Just right. The bouncers weren't a-holes, I didn't get grabbed inappropriately, and I had some nice conversation with some random people, which is always a plus. It was kind of a dude-fest, so if you're looking to pick up some ladies, it's probably not the best spot. But if you're looking for a fun night of groovin' to some good tunes on a Wednesday night, you're in the right place. read more

Since the first time I laid eyes on you... I fell in love! I love Reggae/Dance Hall music and this place is the ish when it comes down to that. I've only been here on Wednesdays and I must say it's hell of a great time. The place itself is not that big. They have two rooms, upstairs (which I've never been) and the downstairs. The downstairs has two bars, an open space with tables through out the room and lounges along the wall. They have an outside patio just in case you want to catch some fresh air... well maybe not so fresh since it is the smoking area. Oh and the sound system is fantastic... the AC not so much, so do expect to get sweaty if you decide to get down and boogie. In regards to parking, you can either have your car valet for $9 or look for street parking which is hard to find unless you arrive early enough. What I really like about this place is the diverse group of people you will see. You don't have those type of guys who think it's okay to stand behind you and when you are not looking decide to start grinding on you like no other. Every person I've encountered there is beyond chill and respectful. I love it! The staff are pretty darn awesome. The bartenders are friendly, the bouncers are not a-holes, and the maintenance lady is a sweet heart. She's my new buddy. :) read more

Came here last night for the Down & Derby event...and had a blast! RSVP and only pay $5 to get in ($10 if you didn't) and $5 for skate rentals, but if you owned any then byos =] It is 21+...there's a fully stocked bar, and plenty of space to skate...but if you've ever been skating it turns into skating in a circle, haha...there were people who were skating with their drinks in hand, not to worry I didn't see any spills with all the falls ;] It was a great crowd, who about 90% dressed in some sort of 70s attire =] and the staff were all so friendly and the DJ was great too! -well ventilated -outside area for smoking -I recommend valet ( $8), right by the entrance, we would have missed the place had it not been for the valet lights =] read more

This place is a god damned joke. I payed $15 at the door to see a couple hack dj's and it sounded like those crappy beats would bring the walls down. At least if that place came crumbling down and buried me in it, it would a) put me out of my misery and b) remove this pesky birth mark from Echo Park. When I tried to escape the god awful music inside by going outside to try to hear myself think I was greeted by an even bigger hack on the "ones and two's" making outside its own special kind of hell for me. Oh dubby clubby, you just never seem to disappoint:) I seriously cannot get enough of this place. I can't point out the one time I did not enjoy my time here. I'm being for serious, yadadadameannn? I like that the crowd varies from a man with dreads all the way down to his ankles, to me:) A standard human being trying to fuck shit up on a Wednesday like she don't have work the next day:) You'll always end up meeting someone interesting and making friends. Everyone here is there for the same reason as you. Just looking to have a good time and listen to some relaxing reggae. I have only gone to the Echoplex for Bootie LA. It's always *ALWAYS* a good time. Be ready for lots of dancing, lots of fun and friendly (and too friendly) people. I went to the holiday theme event this year and it was a lot of fun. The dancers on stage are the best and the music is great and upbeat. There are two bars and they are reasonably priced and there is never a long wait to get your booze. Parking has always been easy. Lots of street parking is available or you can valet your car. I was also happy to see two street hot dog carts out after the party. read more

Came here a couple of weeks ago to see the AppleSeed Cast. My friend who LIVES HERE IN ECHO PARK, apparently found out this place is under the Echo, as in you have to cross the street from The Echo and go down some stairs to the street below which is also under a bridge to get to The EchoPlex, which is a bit bigger than the Echo. This place is hipster central, full of awkward couples and friends mumbling things like "no I've been wanting to check out this place forever yet I live only a block away" and forms of tourettes that include random shouting of words like "Pabst!! Ironic!! Plaid!! Indie!! Skinny Jeans!! Urban Outfitters!!". The space is huge here! HUGE! Seating in the form of ottoman arrangements sporadically placed besides beams. The sound is good here! What a venue for s/m/l performances hidden in a these parts! The bar is nice and long so you don't have to be herded into 2 square feet of counter space. They have many options and appropriately priced drinks. You can also order, through the tenders, some munchies from Two Boots Pizza and they will run it down those sketchy stairs from their shoppe on the street above! Nothing like a veggie pizza and pabst or a drink like a White Russian, which seems like it would fit oh so perfectly into this venue! Cool place dudes read more

I wasn't too sure if I should write a updated review about Dub Club since I've been there more than once. But when I checked my bank statement this morning I knew it was time for a new review. So this is the 3rd time this place did this to me. Over charge me for a beer, isn't that against the law? When they charge me I put 0 tip for the main reason they charged my card more the 1st time this happened. And guess what happened... I was over charged again. I understand your a bartender you need tips, but really i need to tip you for opening my beer? Oh thank god you did that because I'm so incapable of doing so. SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE AND BRING CASH. And recently going to this place, the vibe is weird as hell. Not what it used to be a whole bunch of nobodies, still the chonchas but most a bunch of random looking people. Super played out. I'll just play kid sister in my car and have my own Dub club experience. read more

I've been coming to the Dub Club for YEARS, and the Echoplex is definitely the best venue they've had. The popular Wednesday draw has doubled its crowd so many times that it has become necessary to move to larger venues. The Echoplex, has everything the Dub Club needs. It has a nice large space, for the ever-growing crowd of followers of the scene. It has two bars, for the ever-growing crowd of drunks of the scene. It has a nice large stage, for the ever growing assortment of acts which come through the venue. The Dub Club on Wednesday has an excellent vibe! Chill people, with chill attitudes out for the love of music, fun, and a little bit o' ganja (probably). read more

We come to the Echoplex on the third Thursday of the month for Down and Derby roller disco (www.downandderby.org). It is one of my favorite events in LA...started coming here over the summer with a group of 3, which has since expanded to about 15 people at the last skating night. Everyone always has a great time and wants to come back the next month. The Echoplex is a great venue to host this event because the pillars inside become the barriers of the "skating loop". Then in the middle, the real disco queens bust out some Saturday Night Fever moves...on skates! The floor is uneven, which makes skating a little bit of a challenge, and the outside area is NOT skate-friendly at all. But just be careful. My advice for coming to roller disco is *have fun with it*!! Dress up in some short shorts, knee socks and sweat bands, and even if you haven't roller skated in years, just go out there with confidence (and a couple drinks). This is what two of my guy friends did last month, and as they were walking out, a huge pack of girls yelled after them, "You guys were our faaaavorites!!" The music is really fun, and the people watching is great. $5 with online rsvp, and $5 for skate rental, though you can also bring your own. read more

The only thing you need to know about the Echoplex is that they have the most amazing painting I've ever seen hanging above their sound booth. It's of Colonel Sanders partially undressed, and his nipples glow in the black light. Even if whatever band you're seeing sucks, at least you can be entertained by those glowing nipples. read more

I was engulfed in the vapors as soon as we strolled through the doors of the Echoplex for my first time here this past week. It was Dub Club Wednesday, which is a night dedicated to live and DJed reggae music. I loved what the DJs were spinning, and the live performances were on point. It is a fairly large venue, but even with a good amount of people inside there was plenty of space. The sound system was decent, and the crowd was really into the music. There were some places to sit, with most of them being towards the back and away from the stage. They also have a fenced-in outside area that allows for smoking and some seating. The Echoplex was a great place to check out live performances. It had a more casual feeling about it, and is just the type of place that I like to hangout. Could not have had a worse experience. Multiple people in our group had jackets stolen. The management was completely useless and dismissive of our concerns. They would not help or let us see video even though they supposedly have cameras everywhere. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a scam and they don't actually work. This place is shady, dirty and filled with what seemed like underage teenagers. This place should be avoided at all costs. read more

Here's the thing about both the Echo and the Echoplex...they kind of suck, but they book good artists, so it's really a matter of what you can put up with. While the sound at the Echoplex was surprisingly well-mixed last night at Jenny Lewis, I have been to shows there where it is overpoweringly loud. Probably a product of when they turn it into a dance club (at which time you sometimes get to experience the Echoplex while you are upstairs at the Echo). There are so many poles and obstructions in the way, sight lines are extremely limited, especially when you are vertically challenged like I am. They also have added some barriers and security guys telling you where you can't stand. "Gotta love that," she said sarcastically. If you don't get there early enough, you will be moving around quite a bit if you hope to see anything. Again, for the bands they book, I will make the sacrifice every once in a while because I know what i'm getting myself into, but I wouldn't bother for just anyone. If you're tall and/or don't care about actually being able to see, the Echoplex may be your favorite venue in LA. What they also have going for them is relatively cheap beer, so at the very least you can spend time getting drunk and dancing in the back. Parking is another negative, as is the relatively sketchy Echo Park location under an overpass. There is, however, a Burger King across the street if that's important to you. read more

I've only been to the Echoplex on Wednesday nights for Dub Club but i definitley like the place! it's a 2-story club, the bottom level is HUGE w/ plenty of booth seating. there are also a couple of bars, the one in the back serves pizza and both have free cold water stations. the upper level is not as big as the main floor but it's still a pretty decent size -- there is also a bar upstairs and bathrooms as well so if the main area gets too crowded you can always make a quick trip upstairs and bypass any lines. the outdoor patio area is chill. they normally have a dj spinning in the corner and plenty of bench seating. it's a good spot to cool off and mingle. it get's fairly busy on wenesday's and the crowd is pretty diverse too. most wednesday's it's free before 10pm and $5 after that (for everyone) but some nights they have bigger names which raises the cover to $15-$25. i'm not sure how much parking costs because i normally get lucky and find street parking around the venue. this is definitely a good spot to come to if you're looking to hear some good reggae music. don't let the name "Dub Club" fool you...they do not play dubstep music it is strictly reggae music on Wednesday's! read more

Had mixed bag experiences here... the first time was alright, the second, not so much. For example-- once you enter, they're very picky and SEVERELY try to limit you from re-entering. There's an outdoor patio area which is dominated by the cigarettes and hipsters at all times. Came here twice to see Team Supreme. Will we return? Considering the hefty price increase from $5 to $12 over the span of 1.5 months, probably not. It's losing its edge. read more

I'm having trouble typing right now because my hands are freezing and I need to hold my phone at arm's length to make sure my nipples don't accidentally puncture the screen, so forgive any typos. After waiting outside in freezing (by LA standards) weather for nearly an hour past the slated time, the talent had to come outside and inform showgoers that his show was going to be canceled due to an issue with the lights, which all agreed was absurd. Apparently someone in the crowd who knew how to flip a switch flipped it and the show went on. If one is running an entertainment venue lacking the technical savvy to light the stage for a lone comedian, one is clearly in the wrong business. After waiting in aforementioned line for aforementioned time, we were finally herded into aforementioned venue, only to discover that it was even colder inside. I'm no statistics expert, but witnessing at least three people in my immediate vicinity complain to staff leads me to a hypothesis that no fewer than twenty people must have complained about the temperature. Much like no one on staff knew how to turn on a spotlight, apparently no one knew how to work a thermostat, because we continued to get blasted with cold air throughout the show. Everyone was shivering and uncomfortable, with the exception of one obvious Echoplex veteran wearing an Eskimo coat. It's not surprising that a venue at The Epicenter of the Hipster Universe is pretty outside and cold and dysfunctional inside; the irony is that just makes it trendy. After all that, the real takeaway: bring a blanket and a novel. read more
