And the service rocked: cool and friendly people. Local beers there and they make their own dressings and smoke their chicken. There's a deck outside which you can walk right in and miss if you don't look around. I heard there is live music there often, but I can't find the live music schedule on their website.

Lots of folks were having an evening tipple or dinner and chatting up other customers. Welcoming and convivial! Ten years ago, I would complain about how "nowhere" in Vermont did anyone know how to properly fry chicken. I'm from the South, and while I love the freshness and farm to table options all over the Green Mountain State, the lack of juicy, flavorful, fried chicken in any form was my foodie hardship. Well, I can't complain anymore! Xroads knows what it's about.* The fries and sandwiches are solidly on point too. Come for food, drinks, and friends. Missed ya, Scott! *Before you come at me, Worthy Burger wasn't around in SoRo when I lived there.

River Roost is just a brewing facility with a tasting room, so there is no food provided or for sale. However, the place is across the parking lot from Big Fatty's Barbecue for some amazing, out of this world barbecue, Mac & Cheese, and the like. And you can bring it here to munch out while savoring the many beers on draft. And since it's not a restaurants, Fido is welcome. The owner was the attendant on that day and he was quite affable and also knew his beers like the back of his hand. I tried a "Mas Verde" IPA and it was absolutely delicious. Overall a superb time with wonderful people and great beer and superb food from across the street.... The only warning about the area is the parking situation. As the area (which used to be a blighted warehouse and industrial area) has become gentrified and dotted with apartments, the nearby Northern Stage Theatre, and numerous restaurants, parking has become an issue and customers should either arrive early or realize they may have to park several blocks away. But that only shows just how popular this area has become and part of it is River Roost's doing. Great place!!!!!

Hubby reported his roast beef sandwich was great although the roast beef looked overcooked to me. What was dubious, however, were the French fries. They had a sort of mealy texture and a very odd taste--I thought they used coconut oil to fry but hubby thinks they coated them with baking soda, then fried. Either way I wasn't a fan.

The inside is charming and has that old wooden bar smell that I like. This would be a great place to grab a drink on a cold winter day. Very Scottish, lol. We were seated immediately for our 6:30 dinner reservation. We each ordered appetizers, which took nearly 45 minutes to arrive, even the cup of soup. Mozzarella sticks were nothing special, the cheddar tomato soup was really tasty. My mother in law loved the cock-a-leekie soup, and my father in law liked his scotch egg. It took another 20-25 minutes for our entrees to arrive. For a restaurant that closes at 8 pm, it was surprising at how long the food took to come out. They must have a very small kitchen. Everyone in our group liked their meal. My "loaded vegetarian baked potato" was just a full cup of sour cream and cheese on top of a potato with lukewarm broccoli on the side. A bit disappointing, with there were at least chives or seasoning. Basically nothing else vegetarian on the menu so this was what I was stuck with. Desserts were good, especially the sticky toffee pudding. I would call this place a step above average in the area, but service leaves a lot to be desired.

It's located against the stunning backdrop of Vermont's gorgeous Green Mountains, so we were happy to sit outside as the sun was just starting to set. It's nice to see that they have an outdoor mini stage for local acts, a cornhole game set up and an 18 course disc golf course. How fun to play and then dine afterwards or during! And everyone I know is happy to see that the pool tables are back in the bar area inside the restaurant. I had a glass of Kendall Jackson Chardonnay for only $8-and it was a nice sized pour. My husband had a seasonal ale. We had the fried pickles to start and we were happy to see that they were in coins, not spears. Coins are so much better for dipping. The coating was nice and light-not heavy at all. I had a taco salad and added grilled chicken while my husband had a classic French Dip. Both were very good! We also had a delicious pumpkin creme brûlée for dessert that was delicious. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. Good quality standard food without pretentiousness! We will definitely be back!

My wife is a big burger fan (FYI: she raved about her burger, too), so I decided to try the place out, since we were in the area. Bit hard to locate, but parking was fine. Since the weather was good, we ate outside. There is both open air & tent-covered seating options. Speaking of seating - you must memorize your table # BEFORE going inside to order as meals are delivered to your table. I ordered the "Big Daddy M": 6oz beef, medium-cooked, with Bayley Hazen blue cheese, caramelized onions, bacon bits, garlic aioli, bibb lettuce and red onions. What a heavenly, savory combination. Each bite was full of flavor. And the French Fries? Well, super tasty as well - I ate every potato fried crumb. At other places, fries are usually bland, but not here. The order service inside was pleasant and quick; be sure to note the chalk board with a list of food options (e.g. my Wife ordered a custom burger, just the way she wanted). After ordering we went back outside to our #'d table - wait for the food was relatively quick. When done eating, just leave your baskets, etc. on the table (there is a sign stating this practice). Note: while I did not have kids here, there were plenty of families with young kids & toddlers. I definitely want to try this place a 2nd time.

I ended up getting the side salad which was also really delicious - baby lettuce with cucumbers, pumpkin seeds, cranberries with a vinaigrette dressing.
