Likely many of the good reviews were from before Vincent took over this business. Vincent was extremely unprofessional and hired a number of handymen who could not do the job properly. Instead of fixing the issues I pointed out, he constantly just asked for the next payment. He also tried to gaslight me over and over about what was and was not "correct". He only texts incessantly but doesn't seem to do any real work himself. Bathroom remodels were left in complete disarray, and all work done by his team had to be completely redone. Effectively, I paid thousands of dollars up front for no usable work from this team, and only had to clean up the mess they made everywhere in the house. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE: First, let's start with the timeline. My new commercial space required some floor work. Our plan was simple, we need 3 small rooms carpet/glue removal, and 1600 SQ ft of cement sanded with crack repairs & scores filled. We were told that they could "be in tonight as it'll only take a couple of hours to remove the carpet and the next day they can have it sanded and glue removed, with epoxy being poured on day 3." We had discussed payment terms of 50% up front & 50% upon completion. His estimate was rife with errors, contradictory payment terms, vague terminology, and was addressed to a non-signatory of the organization. Of course, the original start date was immediately missed. At 8:43 the next business morning, (already delayed) start date he promised. 10-11am window for arrival was provided via text. 8:43, he texted that he's on the road already. "I have 4 guys today and commercial wheel Diamond blade." I waited until 8pm and they never showed up. He told me they were around the corner twice, getting lunch twice, at two different times, 4 hours or so apart. They also never showed. Instead, one guy showed up and asked when they were supposed to start demo, he had no idea, was not yet even contracted by the GC and was given the key. Out of suspicion, I sat around and waited trying to figure out what was going on. Soon after another guy comes and was told to leave the key outside in a bush for the contractors. Now I thought it was entirely necessary that I attend during all hours of this project. Where is the diamond sander? He had rented the wrong machine, a tile remover, which can be used for glue but is not recommended as it can damage cement and it sure did, there are gaping holes all over the floor that we now have to pay to have fixed. Now he begins claiming we didn't pay him, even though his own software has invoiced records of payments received for over 50% of the cost (pictures above). With this came threats of extra fees, he would claim the other sub contractors demanded more money to do the work we already agreed upon, threatened to cancel people on site - which he actually did because our co. refused to pay an additional 35%, and for hidden fees of cracks filled, both of which were promised in his estimate. We were 5 days behind schedule, and not obligated to pay anything else until epoxy was poured. Plus, he hadn't removed the carpet yet because he had intentionally kept the subcontractors off site to cause delays and scheme for additional payments. 11 days after the promised start date & my wife & I are removing the glue. After speaking with the subcontractors myself, who the GC claimed no showed us, they claimed the GC never paid them in full & told them we were behind on payment. Even though he had $6500 sent to him already. All together, they worked about 8 hours, a crew of 4 never showed - it was 1 guy doing most of the work himself and the GC never once came to the job site once he received his 50% deposit. I am sure you can do the math of what's going on here. I talked to both of the "no showing" crews, they both said he wouldn't pay & cancelled them, even during the shift. Also, beware that he misrepresents being a licensed GC with the state of Texas, I believe this is untrue, his GC license appears to be for California. I also noticed that his response to all of his negative reviews is that he's a new owner, but his social media claims he has owned it since long before the negative reviews. UPDATE: Contractor went behind our backs in attempt to pull the landlord into the mix. Our landlord is a church, they asked us to give him one more chance to resolve this issue, which we reluctantly accepted. This was contingent on a Wednesday completion. Of course, he repeated the same behavior. Per TX State Law I have demanded proof that my funds remain in the authorized contractor bank account & evidence of how the funds are being used. To this date I have not received proof. He sent one $3000 payment out, which he did for records and proceeded to have the subcontractor return. His response to the comment is a blatant lie. I received the first quote this month, after I first met him. Not to mention, it doesn't matter when a quote is sent, it matters only what was agreed upon. Which he failed to properly engage. When I have more time, I will post more photos of our conversations and other evidence I am keeping close to heart for the coming days. EDIT: His response is a lie - I never met nor talked to this guy until the day before the job was supposed to start, which was the same day I received the estimate. That said, even if he did send an estimate 3 months prior, it would be irrelevant - that was a never agreed upon job, it would have been simply an estimate. I signed it just before job start and he failed to complete, period. Irrelevant anyway, considering we never received an estimate 3 months prior. If i could give 0 stars, i would. Vincent, the owner, is unprofessional on MULTIPLE accounts. The two biggest offenders being he kept pushing me to opt pay take out a loan to pay for the tiling project i needed completed even after i declined the first time. See text messages bellow. Additionally, he stood me up on our scheduled walk through for the tiling job estimate!! I waited 35 minutes for him. Even did my duty to confirm i had the right the day or time, date, and address. Our house flooded due to a broken water pipe. Almost everything had to replaced on the first floor. I told my wife after it was all said and done, we have to leave them a great review for the job they did! They truly did a great job from the smallest of details to finishing on time and within budget. I work with contractors every day from my regular job and you need to know that service like this, in these days, is few and far between. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. I had a big ice damaged and EC Design came right away and fix my property and they even painted the whole room. They also kept fighting with my insurance company for at least 3 months until they got me the whole amount I had to pay from my pocket. The owner was always available and he kept fighting for my rights with the insurance company. read more

Escobar Construction did a fabulous job for me recently. We moved into a new house and wanted to enclose a room and also redo the kitchen cabinets. They were fast, reliable and well- priced. We had the kitchen cabinets stained and they look fantastic! I can not say enough good things about working with Monica and Juan. Absolutely a delight. We only had a few days between buying our new house and selling our old house, so Escobar Construction worked the weekend to enclose the room upstairs to coordinate with the schedule for having carpet installed and walls painted. Everything was done ahead of schedule and extremely well. I look forward to working with them again and recommend them to anyone needing home improvements. read more

In 2010, our home was completely flooded from tropical storm Hermine. We had no idea where to begin. Hiring a general contractor for such a big job was overwhelming. Just in time, a neighbor told us that she had heard that Escobar Construction was really good. I called Juan (owner) who was quick to respond. He gave us an excellent estimate, so we were thrilled. The job was completed on time and on budget. Juan was always easy to reach, was an excellent communicator, helpful and offered great design options. I hired Juan to do a full master bath remodel. He got the proposal to me the next day and it was reasonable and within my budget. Juan's team was knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. Juan and Vincent were great to come out quickly and answer all my questions. They got an estimate together in a timely manner AND spoke with my insurance company frequently to help resolve issues. The demo went fast and it was done cleanly. The build back was done pretty quickly as well, with the exception of just a couple things. Almost every mistake that was made or anything that was not done properly was promptly fixed (and these were very few). I was able to call/text with any confusion or problem at almost any time of day. There is also a warranty for the work, which gives me a little piece of mind. The only reason I gave them a 4 is I think there could be more attention to detail. read more

BEWARE OF THIS MAN AND HIS COMPANY !!!!! My wife and I hired this man to fix - put on a brand new roof (which still leaks). He also did a small but very expensive bathroom remodel, and there have been multiple problems with the work they did, leaking tub into our kitchen, did not finish the job, he just left one day, and never returned. THESE PEOPLE DO BAD WORK, THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING, DO NOT HIRE THEM. I REPEAT DO NOT HIRE THEM. I really was conflicted about writing this review, but I cannot in good conscience do otherwise. Too many people pay thousands of dollars to have work done with no understanding of basic construction knowledge. While Juan may be very knowledgeable about construction and likeable, as a person, details matter. My experience with his company, namely, framing, plumbing, sheetrock, and tiling crews was very disappointing. Essentially, almost everything his crews completed. I was having a very small master bath demo'd and the bath converted to a full shower. The demo work was great, but that is very straightforward. But, things went downhill from there. While a contractor's final work may appear to be aesthetically wonderful for most homeowners, it's what is underneath all the pretty tile work that is most important. Think of it as the foundation for a home. On the fifth day of the job, I asked Juan to have his workers leave my home and never return. Why? Poor sheetrock work that wasn't screwed along the top-plate of the wall framing. You could literally push it with your fingers and easily move it. Tile is very heavy and will sag under its own weight. Also, inadequate framing in the threshold for where the frameless shower door would be hung--one of the 2x4's was literally held in place with existing, original sheetrock and did not span the entire 8 feet from the bottom to the top plate. The 2x4 stopped almost 2 feet short of the top plate. I discovered this on the second day and one of his foreman said they would fix it. I assumed they did, but when I was pulling down all the sheetrock off the wall today, I discovered it was still there, exactly as it was originally installed. There is no way a frameless door can hold that weight for long--this is where the glass door hinges would be installed, btw. The shower pan liner was laid directly onto the concrete slab without first building a preslope. Any water seeping through the floor tile (and it will because of the grout lines) would have just sat on the floor and never have drained--ever. Further, the very nice curb they built with KD lumber (it was KD19--the recommended moisture content should be 15%, or KD15, btw) would have, eventually, rotted since they covered the curb on all three sides with sheetrock, which has to be screwed --another avenue for water to seep. Since, I had to demo the work after his crew left, I discovered the plumber didn't grade the floor back up to the level of the original foundation. Essentially, it was a shallow trough. And, the 3-piece drain was installed in that lower concrete bed. It will all have to be jackhammered back out and reinstalled correctly by a reputable certified master plumber. The final straw was when the tile setters began their work without using the liquid topical waterproofing agent (i.e. "Redguard"). They set several layers of tile before applying the Redguard in a very thin coat (takes at least 2 coats of this product to gain the correct thickness). When I called Juan to bring this to his attention he said they had already planned to take the existing tile off and do it right. Then, why would the tile setters be carefully wiping the edges of the already laid tile? This is when I told Juan to remove his workers from my home. He actually informed me he wish he could complete the entire job for me. Really? In the end, I received a $500 refund on a $2.5k deposit although I stated I thought it was only appropriate to pay for the demo labor. Fair? No, but what am I to do? The only thing done correctly was the demo. I have demo'd all their work, except the plumbing and it will have to be all redone. This time correctly. The point in writing this review is not to damage Juan's business, but inform those having remodeling work to educate themselves and stay involved in the process. I've taken dozens of pictures of the work for documentation purposes in case anyone wants to challenge my assertions. And, I've had another contractor look at the work and was very apologetic by what he saw. Very soon, a certified master plumber will be inspecting their work and making all necessary repairs and inspections at my expense. Buyer beware... read more

Last February, I got my house painted by Escobar Construction and as I sat in my backyard yesterday I realize just how great a job these folks did. They used high quality paint, had competitive prices, and went out of their way to correct any issues they found during the job. They were patient while we decided on paint colors and their experience showed as they walked us through each step. DON'T HIRE Juan unless you're comfortable paying for uncompleted work. Hired him for kitchen remodel with nightmare results. Several issues occurred from window installed crooked leaving loose exterior stone, framing was not square or level, broke washer shutoff valve, and left job unfinished. As work progressed, he constantly asked for money when contract clearly states payment due at work completion. Paid him as work completed but last call ended with him demanding money or he wasn't going to install cabinets. Kitchen has drywall and flooring, no cabinets so of course we don't have sink or appliances installed. Delivering paperwork to attorney next week to get justice. read more

Juan's guys completed a deck job that my husband was unable to finish. The deck is fantastic! They also remodeled our kitchen taking several doors out and arching the entry. Juan's guys are pros! The were wonderful about prepping the site...ensuring that my house stayed as clean as possible. Everyday prior to them leaving the house was swept and tidy as if they had never been there. Very polite gentlemen and respectful of my space while they worked. Juan is also excellent about giving ideas, many being better than my own. Monica is great and very patient. They are quick to get back to me when I have questions. Also, I had an electrical issue in the house and Juan sent his electrician over right away to fix the minor problem. Juan Escobar construction has been amazing! Our house was severely flooded out and damaged in the Halloween flood last year. Due to the amount of damaged homes from the flood, finding a contractor was tough. Juan's crews had done some remodeling work in our home for the previous owners and it looked great so we figured we'd give him a try. His crews were fast, friendly, and did an amazing job! His foreman, Antonio is awesome! I honestly don't know what Juan would do without him. He really went over the top several times for us without even asking him to do so. On one occasion we had bought all of our tile and wood flooring from a store in northwest Austin. We had it delivered to us in Manchaca and there was a lot if it. 3 pallets worth to be exact. As the crews made their way through the pallets it was discovered that the flooring company had sent the wrong decoration band tiles and backsplash with the order. My wide and I both work so there was no way for us to get our of work to return them so that the crews could keep in working. Antonio personally loaded all if the cases of wrong tile and drove an hour each way to get them exchanged. On another occasion the kitchen sink we ordered was cracked during shipping and again Antonio took it to exchange it at Lowes while we were at work. Lowes gave him a lot of grief and ended being there for over an hour while they sorted it out. He constantly went over and above our expectations. My wife and I were the ones who ordered the tile and sinks and normally we would have to be the ones who would have to fix the screw ups since the company didn't order the items, but without hesitation Antonio took care of it. Our house was remodeled and put back together in 4 weeks and looks better than ever! Thank you Juan, Antonio, and everybody there! You guys are amazing! read more
