Gnocchi with chicken

Beautiful restaurant and great service. We picked the prefix lunch and all the foods that we ordered were delicious. The gelato was to die for. We'll come back next time we visit.

Service was great. The show making the Alfredo pasta was nice. However the flavor for the Alfredo was not there. My daughter who ordered the Alfredo makes a tastier version. She asked for a side of chicken. They brought a nice size piece but didn't have much flavor. I ordered the pizza. It was ok. Like a regular pizza. Nothing out of this work. They didn't even have the drink I wanted to order. It was a pretty location but a high price for mid food.

It is not our first rodeo here and they have a lot to offer. We had a track meet nearby and decided to grab some lunch beforehand. A nice Margherita Romano thin crust and delicious. The service for takeout was awesome. The interior is immaculate and very modern look and atmosphere.

The Short Hills location at the mall is New Jersey's first and it delivers. The pappardella ai funghi was legit amazing, incredibly fresh, light, and delicious. Every dish was really enjoyable.

Great wine. Very smooth.

What a great little gem in the short hike mall in NJ. We came in for a drink but Darwin was such an amazing server that we continued to eat and drink wine. If you want a place to eat real Italian food, this is the place. You will not be dissapointed plus have tons of different wines. Darwin knows very well the different options and it's extremely helpful. He is not a quick server and that's it. We ended up with their delicious bread, pizza and even brought two bottles. The place is extremely friendly, clean, portions are big and the prices are reasonable. Come and enjoy. It's a secret gem in this mall.

Stopped in the restaurant area (Eataly Ristorante) - the table tops are small and they gave the four of us a small one by the bar. The burrata was good, and the funghi wasn't bad though a little on the tasteless side (needed a bit more pepper or salt, it was really just grilled in some olive oil and parsley). Salumi e Fromaggi was a charcuterie board - cheese was good, grapes were dusty. The calamari was far overcooked as they had a new person working on it and it was served far later than the rest. Bruschetta romana was very good, though.

Came here to catch up with a girlfriend, and it was a nice spot to chat and have a bite! We tried a few shared plates and a carbonara pasta, and all were tasty. It's Eataly, and I've been to their NYC locations, so I came with the expectations that it'll be premium prices for the quality. Food was good and we stayed for a long while catching up, and I was appreciative that the service was always very attentive and never rushed us during our meal. I also enjoyed browsing through Eataly's market area after our dinner - it's a smallish market but had plenty to check out!

Eataly is paradise for foodies. Overflowing with Italian food imports from pasta to organic sodas and everything in between. Incredible assortment of Italian cheeses and meats perfect for your next charcuterie board and prepared foods for nights where you don't feel like cooking. Not quite as good as being in Italy... but close.

Pesto/Shrimp

We came here during the summer when they had a price fix summer special. The service was slower than we expected and it too terribly crowded. Our server was friendly. The food was only okay to be honest. My pasta/pesto/shrimp was like they didn't any salt at all. And there was no salt on the table. The bill for 3 people on the price fixe was over $200. Seems over priced for what you'd get. I'd give it another shot off the full menu I suppose but its a hard sell for me. There is a market in front of the seating area if you want to buy some Italian wine or groceries.

Of course they put an Eataly here after I moved away! Anywho, we finally got to try it during some holiday shopping this weekend. Note we did not go to the restaurant, so this review is only for the market and pizza counter. They did a nice job with a small space and definitely recreated some of the vibes from the more extravagant NYC locations. Panetone prices in the market were outrageous but i bought one anyway. I'm a sucker what can I say. We got two sandwiches and four slices of pizza for two adults and one toddler. Definitely too much food but we wanted to sample a lot! The trecolore pizza was my favorite because it was slathered in stratchiatella with fresh arugula on top. The cotto sandwich with bright yellow tomato was to die for even if the bread was a little tough. The mortadella was a disappointment because it felt mostly like eating foccacia with whifs of filling here and there at the edges but the center was packed. The soppresata pizza was forgettable and I didnt care for the margherita. And look, we ate every bite but with the prices they are charging my judgement is higher! Next time I would only grab one slice or one sandwich to share. The coffee counter looks fabulous though and I would love to try the frozen espresso drinks!

Seafood linguine
Eli M.

The slice of Soppressata was pricey, but very good! Didn't need any pepper flakes because of the spicy salame. Ordered bolognese pasta. The portion for the price is very small like in Italy. The fresh pasta was delicious. Nothing like freshly made pasta. The bolognese was very good, and it was not salty. The texture of fresh pasta is completely different from boxed dried pasta. I loved it. The seafood linguine was very good. A minute less would have been better for the pasta. The linguine was more of a boxed pasta. But it was delicious. You need to order at least a 2 course meal because of the smaller portion. This is really overpriced pasta and pizza. But you are in Short Hills Mall. Long line during Black Friday. It was good to try. Overall I would come back.

Steph R.

Service was top notch , restaurant was elegant, pasta was definitely fresh and made to order. Food was okay. Enjoyed the calamari could skip on the bread. Wine was perfectly paired with the dish. I'd probably visit again for desert and to try the pizza.

Caprese and Zucchini Pizza
Cara S.

Eataly offers foor below average for Italian food, but above average for mall food. Just as the other reviews have stated, this is overpriced, so-so Italian food. While it's the best food option in the Short Hills mall, I still won't be rushing back unless I happen to also be shopping near there. I ordered the eggplant panino, the caprese panino, and the zucchini pizza. I was REALLY excited to try the zucchini pizza, however it was not very flavorful and I found it to be very heavy and oily. The caprese panino was similarly lackluster, and I make better ones at home. The eggplant panino was very delicious but the bread seemed deep-fried, and the whole sandwich oozed oil with each bite I took. Overall it was decent for a quick mall stop, but the prices did not reflect mall food prices. However, the service was lovely and the man behind the counter was very helpful and patient, even after we changed our order last- minute. The seating area is also very cute, and makes you feel like you could be in an Italian cafe.

My wife had looked at reviews elsewhere beforehand, which were overwhelmingly favorable and why we gave this place a go. Bad reviews on YELP? Those did not define our experience. We ate here on August 28, 2026 for the first time. We will return and probably many times. That was our experience. Really shocked at some of the harsh reviews here and I have to question what motivated those. Anyway..... Not BYOB. It has a lively bar scene. Asking the wait staff about it we are informed many regulars will always choose to eat in the barroom. We dined at a nice table on the main floor of what appears to be a converted residence of two floors. We felt it was a very lovely setting with very attentive staff and ample parking in their dedicated lot to the side and rear. We started with the caviar tasting and a half bottle of one of their several NV French champagnes. These were expertly presented. A constructive criticism would be to add more than the crème fraiche and petite pancakes as accoutrements. However, this small tasting was otherwise a really pleasant opening. For appetizers my wife chose the wild shrimp, which were excellent and I went with the corn chowder, which was likewise top notch. For the main my wife chose the burger with fries and I chose two additional appetizers, the short rib tortellini and the crab cake. All of these impressed when paired with a half bottle of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The tortellini were the standout of these and wished a full order was offered as a main and not just available as a small appetizer. I'll add the bread offerings with room temperature butter were a pleasing start. However, being sated after the aforementioned courses we skipped desserts. Seriously, cannot fathom the few very negative reviews and suggest those be dismissed to allow you to try the place for yourself. All in, this was a $400 tab, but over half of that were the two half bottles and the caviar. It's actually a very reasonably priced restaurant, given the service, setting, and fare.

The starters came out three minutes after we placed them, which was odd. They start the meal off with a choice of one of their breads. I went with the focaccia, and it was tremendous. It was soft with a tomato flavor on the outside. For starters, the octopus ($24) and cauliflower steak ($20) was ordered. The octopus came grilled with potatoes, preserved lemon, and Niçoise olives. This was solid. The octopus was tender and flavorful. The potatoes were tasty as well. My only issue was the amount of olives as there were only two present. There was a very strong lemon flavor too. I liked it, but at times, it felt like too much. The cauliflower steak had a lemon-soy emulsion, tomatoes, cucumbers, and capers. The cauliflower was perfectly cooked and there appeared to be a lot of butter used here. The tomatoes, cucumbers, and capers were a nice addition to complement the cauliflower. For an entrée, I had the tuna ($44). It came with haricot verts, avocado, coconut sticky rice, and a soy-ginger vinaigrette. This dish was very good except the tuna. The flavor was good, but it was not very tender and was a tad overcooked. The sticky rice was the highlight here along with the vinaigrette. I also tried the lamb dish that came with delicata squash, Brussel sprouts, potato gnocchi, and a romesco sauce. This was great. The lamb was cooked to a perfect medium rare while the gnocchi and squash were creative additions. For dessert, the warm chocolate tart ($15) was ordered. It came with pecan crust, praline, and vanilla ice cream. I never saw a pecan crust with a chocolate tart and I enjoyed it. The chocolate tart was gooey while being very rich, but light at the same time. The vanilla ice cream was definitely needed. Will I go back? I would.

Dim lighting, big comfortable leather chairs, bookshelves lining the walls, a fully stocked bar, and historic photos throughout the space create a classic lodge vibe that feels timeless without being stuffy. The craft cocktails are well made and thoughtful, and if you prefer beer, there are solid options there too. As a bourbon lover, I especially enjoyed their private barrel pick served neat, a real treat and easily a standout pour. This is a perfect pre-dinner or post-evening stop, we have done both, and it works beautifully either way. Dress is slightly casual but leans upscale, and while pricing is a bit higher than average, it feels completely worth it for the setting, quality, and experience. We sank into the chairs, talked story with friends, and lost track of time, which really says it all. If you are anywhere near Skytop Lodge, make sure this is on your list. Plan extra time, you will want to linger.

That's why I was actually excited and hopeful to find a restaurant in Garwood that might offer a similar experience. Unfortunately, our first impression left a lot to be desired. We arrived without a reservation and were told by the maître d' that there would be at least a two-hour wait. While I understand that restaurants get busy, the way the information was delivered felt unnecessarily dismissive. We were then directed toward the bar, where we attempted to find a place to sit. Just as we were about to sit down, the owner told us that those seats had been reserved for someone else. We went back to speak with the maître d', but the interaction and attitude at that point were unpleasant enough that we decided to leave. To his credit, the owner ultimately offered us a table outside, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, by then, the overall experience had already left us feeling unwelcome, and we decided it wasn't worth staying. I'm sure the food may very well be excellent, and perhaps we simply caught the restaurant on an off night. But a great dining experience starts well before the food reaches the table. There are plenty of restaurants where I'm happy to spend my money, and I don't expect special treatment--just basic courtesy and hospitality. Hopefully others have a better experience, but based on ours, we won't be returning.
