What a pleasant surprise! A hidden treasure! We visited Indich Collection off of Nimitz & we're thinking about lunch. When we came out of the store we picked up on some yummy food aromas. We peeked around the corner & found Eat Honolulu and decided to try it out. What a refreshing restaurant! The food was fresh, unique & so ono! A little on the pricey side, but it was really good. Looking for somewhere new to eat, you have to visit Eat Honolulu! 2 thumbs up! read more

Signature items that don't disappoint. Chef Dave has a delicious rotating menu with fresh ingredients. I have been here before, and have also eaten EAT's food on various catering events, but am now finally writing a review on them. This time I ordered: Polenta fries with sriracha aioli Soft shell crab sandwich Veggie sandwich with prosciutto Positives: Fries were hot and crispy Veg sandwich was hot Negatives: Aioli didn't have much flavor Crab sandwich was room temperature Veggie sandwich needed salt and was loaded with more cheese than veggies Thoughts: Stick with the signature items like polenta fries, local fish, and the crab burger. They seem to do those the best. They have a small staff back their and their food doesn't always stay hot as it's been plated. The food does taste good and I come here for lunch when I'm in that area. The one real critique I have is that the lady taking my order didn't know what prosciutto was, and I had to explain it to her/she had to figure it out for 5 minutes. It was an ordeal. Only open for lunch. Get here early and you'll miss the line. read more

This is located in the center right before City Mill on Nimitz Hwy. I went on Tuesday and there were lots of parking. BYOB unsure if there's a fee because the word 'no' before corkage was smudged off but still visible. Unfortunately, they are only open till 3p.m. You order at the counter. No waitstaff. The reason I gave this a 3... I had the Surf and Turf. Tower of food that is visually appealing, but the attempt to take one bite that includes all ingredients was a bit difficult. I had to use a fork and knife, which I think is wrong for any burger. My issue is that my patty wasn't seasoned, and it just tasted like meat. I don't know if it was meant that way or they forgot, but it just tasted like meat. Even with the combination of flavors from the soft shell crab (which was yumm), veggies, and sauce... couldn't get passed the 'meat' taste. I still ate it after i put salt and pepper on that patty and sauce just to mask it. Polenta fries were good. Not memorable, but good. I didn't get to try my mom's fish sandwich, and I had a piece of my brother's fish plate. I had my own burger to conquer. They both liked it ok. I will go back and try their other stuff. read more

It's not easy to find a spot in Honolulu where 40 plus friends can gather in a central location,, with a couple days notice and enjoy great food, bring your own wines with oodles and oodles of free and easy parking. This place checks all the boxes. Connivence, cost, taste and ease. important factors when throwing a gathering of any size. It may not have the evening out ambience you may be seeking but for simplicity with private parties, look no further. Eight years ago, A Matter of Taste closed and in its place appeared EAT. The owners are Chef David Passanisi (back of the house) & Jocelyn Leigh Passanisi McCann (front of the house). Located in the former Gentry Pacific Design Center off Nimitz across Zippy's. This building is now called Na Lama Kukui Building, housing mostly high end home design businesses. EAT being the only eating establishment. Which by the way, stands for...Everything and then some! If you've only had a casual breakfast or lunch here and have had your senses aroused then stick around for a privately catered dinner, this couple is in business to please. Things I loved... The idea that these two industry folks have bankers hours 9:30-3pm Mon-Fri. Restaurant work is extremely hard work, for a couple, even tougher. Quality of life outside restaurant time is so important to business and home life and of course HAPPINESS in day-to-day life!! The cafe's hours, outside of personal catering allows flexibility and enjoyment. The menu changes with the season. Many reasons I love this...growing up as a child in Hawaii ...it's not an easy concept to grasp. Seasons seemed non -existent, small kid time. Other than the fact that there was mangoes only sometimes during the year. The weather generally always stayed the same. I still remember one September, my first visit to the east coast ..and my jaw dropping when seeing the fall leaves change from green to vibrant colors! The naive child from Hawaii bringing them home, to show all my friends! Not realizing that these beautiful leaves would turn from orange, yellow and red to brown by the time I returned. The only other restaurant I can think of (at the time of this writing) that adopted the true seasonal concept is Mavro. He could write a book solely on this subject. It's fun to experience seasonal menu's! I'm all about growing, picking and eating what is in season. It simply tastes better!! I'm addicted to farmers markets and love hanging out with farmers, chefs, ranchers & fishermen. The topic of discussion always ends up the same...what's in season, tasting it's best, at its peak..to EAT right now! The size of the party areas can accommodate ample numbers. Exclusive Room (14 pax) & Group Space (75 pax). The catering menu offers both traditional passé and self service buffet group selections. The businesses in this center are only open during the day, so you and your friends have the place to yourselves at night! Things I didn't love The restrooms are a little away from the cafe, and because you have the entire center to yourself, it can be a little scary for the ladies to walk there alone. The furniture needs replacing. Ambient lighting needs to be added if they wish to grow this side of the business. Or darken and add a ton of candles to make the area more appealing. The layout of the group space needs to rearranged in the evening to be more circular rather than rectangular. It is a necessity to invest in a decedent sound system. Live or even piped music needs to be added when booking groups. Guests shouldn't have to worry about bringing it in themselves. read more

Satisfied. EAT is in a strip mall, from the outside it does not look like there should be a restaurant inside. I ordered the "Eat and Run" which is a half sandwich-of-the-day, soup of the day, and salad and drink. The meal was yummy and fresh. read more

EAT - Food Delivery Services Near Me

SURF & TURF BURGER ($11.99): Kulana Farm beef patty topped off with a whole soft shell crab and chili aioli on a sesame bun. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/eat-honolulu?select=cAkHKXeFg71itkzC-Km-TA - The beef was lightly seasoned w/salt and pepper and cooked to a perfect medium rare. Each bite was super moist and tender, so much that the juices literally ran down my wrists as I was eating it (sadly, it also dripped right down into my purse, I had it sitting on my lap. Shiet....). - The fried soft shell crab was the BEST fried soft shell I've had yet! The batter was light, yet enough coverage to retain its crunch right down to the last bite. Perfectly fried, there was nothing greasy about this little delectable fried crab. I would come back for just this alone! ***$11.99 for their burger combo. Comes w/burger, 20oz drink and polenta fries*** ***Ladies: This ain't pretty, so check your daintiness at the door and be ready to get messy. Luckily, my guy friend didn't care how much of a mess I made. I just smooshed this monstrous burger down and chomped on it like a wild dog. Yeah, don't bring your first dates here, lol! SOFT SHELL CRAB SANDWICH ($8.79): Whole soft shell crab fried, served on sesame buns and topped with their house chili aioli. It's exactly the same as the Surf & Turf burger, sans the beef. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/eat-honolulu?select=dZaTK2CBXVEzmOPYTQgd-g - Even without the burger, this sandwich was quite filling with the whole fried crab. This was my favorite out of the two burgers. I could savor and enjoy the sweet crab meat a lot more without the distraction of the bulky beef patty. SUGAR-SPICED BACON ($2.99 for 4 pieces): On another visit, we ordered a side of these to throw into the Surf & Turf burger. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/eat-honolulu?select=eVC_gxNRGjRzlhRyQmjcrQ - I was hesitant upon hearing that it was cooked in sugar, but it's delicious! These thick crispy pieces were still smokey and salty and not overly sweet. ***For $5.99, you can choose 2 sides with your entree*** POLENTA "FRIES" ($3.75): http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/eat-honolulu?select=-5RcGwhG0RJgJVvb_xN0uA - Piping hot and freakin' delicious! Creamy grits shaped and fried to a fantastic crunchy golden treat. After finishing these off, I didn't want to go back to eating regular potato fries ever again. Yes, it's that good. ***For $5.99, you can choose 2 sides with your entree*** 808 REUBEN ($9.75): Homemade Kulana Farms Pastrami, pickled golden beets and the same chili aioli that was used for the burgers and polenta fries. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/eat-honolulu?select=o1X-tf6Qg2TngSq61gLGHA ***No longer on the menu. It was the only item I didn't like.*** I was expecting something similar to a pastrami reuben but what I got was a flavorless sandwich that I ended up tossing after a few bites. 1) The "pastrami" was thin, flavorless pieces of roast beef. Subways has better roast beef. 2) Instead of rye bread, they gave me dry sourdough bread. 3) The sour pickled yellow beet slices didn't go well with this sammie at all. Aside from giving it some sort of kick or flavor........ok, I'm lying, it actually it gave me goosebumps. It was way too funky and tart. EAT still gets 4.5 stars for the soft shell crab sandwich. Fresh-tasting & perfectly-fried, it's the best I've had yet. read more

This place was hard to find... For me. After driving around only seeing Sam Choy's and Aloha Beer. I wrote to Rod U. "Where is Eat??!!!! I drove passed twice and I didn't see it!" I had thought it had closed or something! He said, "it's on the other side of the road!" OMG! I. Am. A. Moron! Of coarse I don't look on both sides! Who knew it would be in the Design Center!? When I finally got to Eat I thought the space was really unique. It is quiet and open air concept. Everything about the place has a special feel to it, from the chalk board menu, open kitchen views, the patio where you consume the freshly prepared delicacies, to the one private dining room for special parties; this place feels satisfying. Good energy! Since this was my first time here and I was with the BF we went crazy! We both got our own sandwiches. I got the apples and oranges panini ($9), which was salty with the sugar spice bacon and ham, tangy with the pimento cheese mixed with orange, and sweet with the slices of apples! He got the Surf n Turf Burger ($12). I thought it was delicious, so did he but he also thought it was a little well done :-/ However, it was still flavorful with the soft shell crab battered and fried and that Kauai beef. We ALSO got TWO sides each! For $5 you get your choice of two sides! We got the Quinoa Salad, Roasted Potatoes, Sugar Spice Bacon, and Polenta Fries! There was nothing I was unsatisfied with! The Quinoa Salad really feels healthy and lightened the load of all that food we ate. The Polenta Fries were a nice change from your normal potato :D This place is definitely somewhere I want to go back to soon! ****Here Are Some Tips When Eating Here!**** -If you are hungry just know you will be waiting for the food. We had to wait 20 minutes, but they do make it fresh, so you cannot hate. -Teas, sodas, and lemonades are FREE REFILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!! *I don't like when you have to pay for refills! -if you are with someone who isn't a big eater you should just get One Sandwich And a side. I only ate half my Panini. It was pretty big! But left overs are never a bad thing ;D SHOUT OUT TO.....ROD U.!!!!! I would not have found this place with out you!!!!!!! :D read more

If you're looking for a convenient place to grab a bite but don't want to deal with parking downtown, you're going to love EAT! It's located in the Gentry Design Center (right before City Mill) so there's ample free parking. I went there twice in one week, first time for lunch and the second time for breakfast. For lunch I got the caesar salad with chicken and my BF ordered the chicken plate with sweet mashed potatoes. I enjoyed the salad but my BF was not really sold on his lunch. Price point was okay with me in comparison to what else you can find in the area. I was stoked to see that yelper Brooke M was in the kitchen cooking and she gave me an espresso brownie which was divine! EAT's breakfast sandwich however is where it's at! For $7.95 you can order their breakfast combo which is a breakfast sandwich, coffee and bowl of fruit. You get to pick your fillings and we go the sourdough with scrambled eggs, bacon and cheddar cheese. It was totally winners!!! The fruit was a great touch which counterbalanced the richness of the sandwich. I am certainly going to be returning for this breakfast again. Yelp buddy Val Y and I decided to have lunch again. This time it was time to EAT. The deal is this, EAT is a front for a catering company. Since they have to have a kitchen anyway they use their facilities to sell to the public also. Located in the Honolulu Design Center on Nimitz between K-Mart and City Mill. I had been in there before to Piano Planet and the Indich Carpet store. It is pretty dead in this design center area otherwise. I was looking around at the few shops and spotted an artistic light fixture that I think was made by a friend of mine. I didn't want get too close to the Piano store because I was afraid the guy might spot me. I know he has no one to talk to. But, a lot of people are coming in for lunch at EAT. EAT may be the best thing that has happened to this building. They have burgers, panini's, sandwiches and a few specials, plate lunches and pasta. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/FsPUFjWfdkzHt1eJOA5BEQ?select=kiw3B3hJnKrMDSd4TpconA#L8OLijKXr614MiRXUJQNrg Me: Grilled veggie panini. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/FsPUFjWfdkzHt1eJOA5BEQ?select=kiw3B3hJnKrMDSd4TpconA#VnanY4I5EsJnKmDi-CXucg Warm and lots of flavors. Very nice sandwich. I will happily eat here again. Take out for daughter: Cheese panini with bacon added please. " Yes, sir, cheese with tomato" "Oh, that's with bacon please"..."OK then cheese with tomato"..."uh, Cheese with bacon?"..."Yes that 's right sir cheese with tomato" The lady was nice and smiling at me. Sometimes people just don't click. I Love it! I gave up. Daughter liked it anyway. I told her I tried to get it with bacon. As Val and I were sitting there talking people just kept coming in for lunch. There really were quite a few customers. You sit "outside" inside their mall like covered enclosed area. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/FsPUFjWfdkzHt1eJOA5BEQ?select=kiw3B3hJnKrMDSd4TpconA#I793mn-IIrt6HfjXYXzYxA) Better than sitting indoors. I liked it. They have a private room that seats up to 14. (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/FsPUFjWfdkzHt1eJOA5BEQ?select=kiw3B3hJnKrMDSd4TpconA#MAA074Az23TmXMoufOPtOw) Looks like they have private chef services plus sort of "Pop-Up" events for a prix fix price. Easy parking in the large lot out front. Great alternative for lunch with a client. Casual and private enough to be relaxed and get business done. read more

I heart meat bulge. That sounds wrong, but lemme 'splain. You know that perfect burger, juicy and medium rare and all kinds of "I can stretch my mouth thiiiiiis big, how about you" goodness? And then as you're eating it, sometimes that soft, juicy bulge of meat and maybe filling slowly makes its way just outside the sandwich...and you get to nibble on a singular, glorious, super sexy bite of spectacular, naked, meaty lusciousness without the bun, right before going back to the proper sandwich? Yeaaaah, that's meat bulge. EAT just changed its seasonal menu a little while ago, but the most popular items are still there. Favorites: $10.25 Turf's Up burger with $1.25 provolone (already comes with a huge, patty-covering slice of Portuguese sausage and a lovely fried egg on the patty, along with butter lettuce, onions, tomatoes, pickles, homemade red wine ketchup, and a side of pickled onions). $7.99 Original Burger with $2.99 spiced bacon (yes, it's worth it) and $1.99 homemade mozzarella (huge, thick, perfectly gooey and covering the whole patty). The burgers are consistently well seasoned and sized exactly right for the black sesame seed bun. Patty itself was at least half a pound, lunch partner swore it was at least 3/4 pound. I ordered it medium rare, and it was EXACTLY medium rare. Beautiful. This place probably makes the best burgers on the island. Been to the gourmet restaurants hunting good burger, and those $30+ burgers don't compare, I'm sorry. We hunt at the midrange and the dives too, and for the money, this hits the spot every time. Eat here, and it's clear that other place in the same price point which gets raves (it rhymes with Freddy's, hint hint) doesn't even come close. You can call ahead with your name and phone number, and they'll have it ready for you, too. I like takeaway because it gets real sometimes, with soft, gaspy noises I'd rather not have strangers hear. Customer service has been consistently good here, too. Check out the website for current menu. Burgers at 10am? Why, YES! Mmm...meat bulge... read more

REASON FOR GOING: I love coming here for my work lunch dates! This place is only open to the public on weekdays. Weekends I think they still cater, but the restaurant side is not open. EAT is a perfect name for this restaurant as I love to eat, and when I come here- I want to eat everything! SERVICE: As far as the service goes, it is okay. This would have been a five star review however I feel that sometimes, service can be slow. I've order coffee from here and had to wait 15 minutes. It would be one thing if there were tons of people in line but it was only myself. I look past that thinking that it may have been a rare instance. Today though, I gave my order to the cashier, I asked for the mac n cheese, house salad, and coconut water. When she repeated my order she forgot the coconut water. I told her again but she must have not heard me. I thought to myself it is okay, it was not meant to be as I dont think it was a necessary purchase. When we ordered the cheesecake for dessert, the same cashier asked did you want it now, and I said, yes please. We waited for a bit, and no one else is eating at the restaurant (we were there about 11AM). After 10 minutes passed i started to walk up and she saw me, darted to get the cheesecake ready. This cashier has always been nice but I think she just might have a lot on her mind. SELECTION + PRICE: The menu changes by season but is always filled with interesting and delicious parings. Today I had the mac n cheese which was AMAZING and for dessert I had the lemon basil cheesecake from Otto cake. everything was good! I cannot stop thinking about the cheesecake though, it is light fluffy yet has a flavorful crust! MMMmmm!!! VALUE: Eat offers a nice atmosphere- away from the office. The food is really delicious and is good to go for a work meeting and these people even cater! read more

If location were everything, then EAT would definitely get a higher rating. It's at the Gentry Pacific Design Center in Iwilei, right before the City Mill turn-off on Nimitz. Tons of free parking. Lots of room to eat, both "inside" and out. BUT . . . the place is called EAT, not PARK. EAT has a hard act to follow, being that they used to be Matters of Taste. Matters of Taste had great, quality food and a really nice staff. So how does EAT measure up? I ordered a specialty burger called "Da-Wonderfall" and subbed a turkey patty for the ground beef. The turkey patty was white, spongy and tasteless, almost exactly like the "chicken breast" at Subway -- not all that appealing. This did not go well with the not-so-smokey smoked cheddar, which kind of slipped and slid with the caramelized onions. The thin slices of fuji apples helped to somewhat salvage the texture of this odd mix. I'm not really sure why it was called Da-Wonderfall at all, except that it was kind of falling apart. I'd read good things about the sugar spice bacon and thought that surely a taste was warranted for anything with such an intriguing name. The concept was there -- an interesting blend of sweet and savory -- but something definitely lacked in execution, particular in the crispness department. In terms of service, I feel bad picking on the cashier, but my whole experience there was just awkward. First of all, the young girl seemed like she was hardly paying attention to my order. Then, while the next person ordered, she pretty much had a full-blown, hands-waving meltdown and had to flee the register. Personal crisis? Drugs? Who knows, but it was really odd and definitely not the kind of lasting impression you want to leave with customers. (I later saw her wiping her face, including her nose, on her work shirt.) But, all that said, I can see where this place has potential. It's not awful, and I would definitely be willing to give it another shot, especially to try one of the non-burger dishes and/or coffee. read more

I only comment on service because I feel that everyone is on the same page for service expectations. My personal experience below... WHO: EAT Honolulu WHAT: bad customer service WHY: no response after 4 attempts WHEN: October - November 2016 I called 3 times in a span of 2 weeks to book a cooking class for a large group of people. My first attempt was email, through their online inquiry form. I received no response from my email (hence the 3 phone calls). The person who answered the phone took my information and assured me someone will call me back. No one has called, it has been 4 weeks now. And yes, I gave them my information all 3 times. Just bummed we couldn't hold a cooking class for our group. Extremely disappointed in the lack of response from the company. read more

The first time I visited EAT I ordered the vege burger with added avocado and a side of polenta fries. I've never had polenta fries before and they were amazing! You've definitely got to try them. The vege burger patty was delicious. It's not the typical processed, preservative-packed veggie patty that other restaurants serve; this one is made of quinoa, black beans, and Okinawa sweet potatoes I believe. To die for! So Ono! My second time dining in at EAT was just as wonderful. the nice women working the register were able to accommodate my request for an animal product-free meal. I ordered the vege burger (patty only) on a bed of seasonal greens with a side of oil & vinegar (since their seasonal salad dressing has honey in it, I left that out). The salad was crispy, fresh and very fulfilling. Overall if you're looking for a healthy lunch and a quaint atmosphere, I suggest giving EAT Honolulu a try. I'll definitely be coming back! read more

Edit: Since writing this review I was contacted by the co-owner regarding the incidents in question. She stated that issues concerning customer service were rectified and that they were striving for an even higher level of customer service. She graciously invited me to return within the next few weeks to experience their new menu. Adding a star for that and looking forward to completely deleting this review in a few weeks. Since writing my initial review they have let me down multiple times. On one occasion they forgot to give us our food. The wait is usually pretty long so when I didn't get my food in 10 minutes I was not overly concerned. At the 20 minute mark I approached the counter. They unapolegetically told me that they forgot to prepare our food. I told them that we were in a rush now since we were on our lunch break. We did not get a discount however they did offer us one piece of cake for the two of us. In addition I am allergic to pineapple and the dessert had you guessed it...pineapple. The lady shrugged her shoulders, apologized and said she would give me dessert next time. On another visit I was treated poorly by the register girl. She was blatantly rude. I asked to speak to the manager and she stepped the attitude up even more. The owner came out and talked to me and offered to give me 10% off at the next visit. The owner also confirmed that they had multiple complaints about the woman and that he had plans of taking her off the register. read more

As it has now become a new goal to find alternate take-out lunch options, this quickly became one that the workplace was eager to try. After browsing the pictures, it was a unanimous office order of all Surf & Turf Burgers. I called in about 10 Surf & Turf burgers, about 20 minutes before pick-up. Finding this place, from west bound, we were kinda like... um where is it??? We drove past the West Marine (Summer St.) and flipped a turn to go back east bound. Spotted something that looked like a deserted home improvement center - the Gentry Pacific Design center with the green canopy and easily found parking. Walked in to the dark and deserted looking building. EAT, located on the left when you walk in, seems to be the only non vacant unit in the building within eyeshot. Walked up to the counter - there were a few picnic tables around the front counter, with only a couple people at them. Very un-crowded for 11am. Told the cashier the name the order was under and they promptly packed a couple bags with our plastic containers of goodness. Out the door with the order in under 10 minutes. Returning to the work places the ooohs and ahs started. First reaction was how do we eat this??? Its just a very tall burger with all that delicious fried soft-shell crab. One coworker smashed it down. I personally pulled the crab out, stabbed it with a fork, then took a bite of burger then a bite of crab. Easily made two meals for me. one burger. one crab. Soo good the pictures don't do it justice. read more

My employer has been using this business for a few years, including when it was Matters of Taste. Chef Dave does a great job of providing different menus to us each year. Considering most of the attendees at our events are repeat, it's nice to have such diverse menus. There are items that make me salivate even though I've just eaten...braised beef short ribs to name just one. He does a fantastic job with his desserts and his veggies too (asparagus with sauerkraut?). I've only been to the cafe once, and I got the tacos. They were fantastic and pretty filling considering they were only a couple bucks. I just wish they were closer to the office... read more

Rating: 3.5 stars The Good: Good food, definitely no frills (see below). There is a mix of food -- breakfast, lunch, soups, salads. Possibly the best priced ice tea I've seen in a while (and brewed - not soda machine). I haven't exactly figured out how they operate, but there were a couple of things that were on the menu that were not available (and we went at like 11am), but - I went for the lamb, and for the soft pork tacos which I heard were yum. Lamb gyros and the soft pork tacos were right on the money - and very reasonably priced. Both had good amounts of filling and everything tasted fresh and juicy. Having lived in So Cal for the past few years, I was thrilled to find a decent soft taco here! I'm a fan. The Not-So-Good: EAT is located inside Gentry Pacific Design Center. I understand Matters of Taste was here before so maybe I was a little confused by the setting - you're inside the design center, but the seating is like indoors, but kind of in the walkway area. It was like being outside, but inside. Kind of weird. Plus, we went on the weekend so it was really quiet (perhaps it always is) and a little echoey. Not exactly the place you want to have either a loud or private conversation. Other than the setting and the lack of vegetarian options (for those who may be wondering), I'd recommend it. read more

On Monday I decided to grab lunch from here because it is super close to my job. My coworker and I ordered the Soft Shell Crab sandwich and fries. About an hour after eating it we felt uneasy. We did not think anything of it until 2 hours later when we were throwing up. Then we realized it had to be the sandwich. Not sure if it was not cooked well or something else happened during the preparation process but we were so sick from it. I had to call out of work the next day because I was dizzy, nauseous and throwing up the entire night. I've eaten here before and didn't think anything of it, but this is my last time. read more

I had half a chicken panini and thought it was really filling and yummy. The menu seemed small but I think the quality of what EAT offers is very good. There was a grilled cheese panini listed that I want to go back and try. Prices are pretty decent too. Half of a panini was about $5 and it was really big. I don't think I could eat a full panini. I also had the iced tea which was refreshing, plus I could get a free refill. Love the ambiance of EAT and wish they were open on weekends! read more

Arrived for lunch. Had previously considered this 4 stars after a great brunch experience. Arrived to a confusing sign saying the kitchen was closing at 1:30 "today" on Thursday the 21st (it was Wednesday the 21st) due to a catering job. Okay so that was confusing but not the end of the world. Ordered Kauai grass-fed beef burger with quinoa and greens since they were out of fish. Friend ordered the ragu. Lots of waiting involved. They started removing the condiments and so forth. They started closing up (we got there at 1:20) and the cashier noticed (as he was leaving) we were still waiting half an hour later and brought out our food which apparently had been sitting in the back. Nobody had called our name. Quinoa and ragu was bland and unseasoned. Kauai beef burger patty was good but it's pretty hard to screw up a patty. We won't be back. There are much better places to eat. I understand this is a catering joint with a cafe, but if you are going to be serving lunch and have fixed business hours you need to provide service during them. To all you Soft Shell Crab lovers, this is a MUST! It sits humbly amidst design showrooms in the lobby of the Nā Lama Kukui building formerly The Nimitz Design Center. There are 2 items that showcase Soft Shell Crab. The first one I tried was the Soft Shell Crab sandwich is served on a Sesame roll with local grown Lettuce & Tomato with a Chili Aioli. As if that wasn't heavenly enough, there's an option to add Avocado and/or Bacon. The second is a newer featured item. The Surf & Turf Burger, which is a 6oz hand molded Beef Patty with a whole Soft Shell Crab accompanied by local grown vegetables and Chili Aioli. The options for Avocado and Bacon apply to this nugget as well. If you love the semi-sweet, briny crush of this delectable crustacean, stop by and have a sandwich. Don't forget to order the Polenta fries! read more

First timer responding to the hype. LOCATION/PARKING: An EZ find. Enter on Nimitz hwy right across from Battery Bills. Plenty parking. One solid star. SERVICE/CLEANLINESS: Fast food style. Order at the counter and they call you when your order is ready. Run-of-the-mill. No aloha or personal touch. It seems the service workers are just there to pick up a paycheck. The place appears clean and well maintained. One weak star. QUANTITY/QUALITY OF FOOD: Ordered their signature surf & turf, a side of polenta fries, and lemonade. Just over $20 bucks. Ouch. I am passionate about softshell crab but was really disappointed. A bit heavy on the batter and no crispy crunch on the outside like I like it. The product was soft and soggy inside with a just-turned fishiness that made me wonder if Pepto was in my near future. The burger was done to perfection (medium rare), however, it was tasteless and bland and reminded me of when I used to go camping and throw plain hamburger right from the cellophane package into a pan over a fire. No spices at all. Ah Boy Scout days! I'm not a big fan of polenta but ordered the polenta fries because of the novelty. They were junk. But in all fairness that's on me, not them. The quantity of food they served was impressive. If you can eat all it you will be filled up. But that's a debatable "if". But at least this saves one (questionable and probably too generous) star. OVERALL IMPRESSION: You can get a lot but you pay a lot. Maybe it was just what i ordered so in all fairness I will give it another shot. At least I know what NOT to order. STANDBY: read more

I Heart Sugar & Spice Bacon I don't care how long I have to wait for it (which really isn't that long considering that they make everything to order), or how much it costs (which really isn't that much when you consider the quality of the ingredients). In all seriousness, though- EAT is really amazing. Their flavor and texture combinations are unreal, and you can tell that they use really fresh, high quality ingredients. Does it take longer than McDonalds? Yes. Yes it does. For those of you who like their food to be fast there are other options out there for you. Please utilize them so that the rest of us who don't mind waiting a little longer for excellent food don't have to stand behind you in line. I leave you with two words: Nutella Latte read more

This place is becoming one of my favorite lunch spots. It's one of the only places within walking distance from work that I enjoy. Of the two times I visited, it was never too crowded, which surprised me since there aren't many other options in the area. It's a bit pricey, but the food is up to par. A decent lunch will run you $10-$15 or more. The food can take a while to come out, so I wouldn't come here if I was rushing. But it's definitely worth the wait. The employees are very nice and answer questions about the menu items. I am a cheese lover. Most times, if I order something that claims to be very cheesy, I'm left disappointed. But this place knows how to do a CHEESE sandwich! Their "Say Cheese" is packed with melty goodness. I like to add on the homemade mozzarella too. Heaven! The vibe of his place is nice too. It's mostly business people from the offices nearby. Chairs are comfy, not those cold, hard things that a lot of cafés have. They also offer catering, delivery, sommelier services and more, but I can't speak much for that until I try it. Overall, definitely heading back to this place! read more

Hard to find - it's located inside the Design Center. The fish sandwich was exactly what I wanted. Good, fresh, quick, and well priced. Be sure to make it a combo - the mashed sweet potatoes were heaven! read more

Went here for lunch. I loved their "Classic Burger". You can't beat the grass fed burger taste. I just wished they had French fries to go with it. I tried the Polenta fries and I didn't like it at all. Good fries would have give. Them five stars. Next time I might try their soft shell crab sandwich. read more

Odd location for a restaurant but I'm guessing majority of their customers either work in the building or close by. Casual and comfortable eatery with good food at reasonable prices. Cuban grilled cheese - delicious! The bread was pressed enough to give it a crunchy texture. Good ratio of meat and cheese. Surf n turf burger (kulana beef and soft shell crab) - I've come to the conclusion that I'm not a big fan of grass fed beef. Just my preference though. Otherwise, the rest of the burger was good. Roasted cauliflower w/some kind if vinaigrette and parm - 'twas shmedium. I think it would've been better if it was served warm and not cold. Overall, enjoyable dining experience and will return. read more

Food is okay here. The staff is pretty nice. I ordered the fish sandwich yesterday. Mahi mahi was a little overcooked. There wasn't enough sauce on the buns. The lettuce looked old and I got only 2 pieces of pickles... Definitely not worth 10$. read more

RE: Service Food is good but service is bad. The main cashier guy was really sassy. My boss and I ordered lunch for our office and we asked him if he could put one order of polenta fries on the side and he freaked out since he was so stressed and yelled "I can't! I have so many orders ahead of you!" And that was that. It was really uncomfortable. I think there should be a decent level of professionalism. If you can't do it just be like "sorry it'll take a while..." or some other alternative response. But due to that response, we are not ordering from here again. So make sure to come when it is slow to avoid getting yelled at by an overwhelmed worker. read more

We used to frequent this place when it was called A Matter of Taste but my recent experience with the new management under Eat Catering & Café to plan an exclusive after hour dinner meeting leaves a very bad aftertaste; so much that we decided to cancel the dinner date we were holding with them & look elsewhere. They failed in follow-up and communications & we were left hanging in the lurch which led me to feeling uneasy and not trusting them handle our event. I'm not saying their food is lacking, it's decent or else I wouldn't have looked into planning something there. It's just that if you choose to plan an event with them, be aware that they are not the easiest to work with. read more

Hyped for nothing Waited over 35 minutes for our food. Food is average. Surf and turf Burger was good, but ordinary and the crab? Tasted like typical shrimp tempura bottom line nothing special. Can't even make Italian sodas right. Strawberry Italian soda, tasted slight strawberry Watermelon Italian soda, tasted nothing. Pasta had no taste. Not worth the wait, I was 5 minutes away from requesting a refund. read more

Deliciousness perfected. They have gourmet everything and all at the right size and portion for great lunch sessions with the wife. Centrally located right in Kalihi across from Hilo Hatties, this spot boasts the amazing Turkey Sandwich and a Surf and Turf Burger to boot! Outstanding. Quaint indoor patio setting and BYOB for your business expenses. Likely would come here every weekend and my wife swears by it. They know her by order. read more

I'd let you know how it was of we'd ever been helped. They had three staff people working. There was a couple sitting at tables. Two other people at the counter waiting for service. The two guys working were sort of meandering around the kitchen. I really couldn't tell you what they were doing - I could tell you what they WEREN'T doing... Helping customers. The one girl who seemed to be directly tasked with helping customers was making coffee... I think. I'm pretty sure I've seen YouTube videos of double amputees that could have made coffee faster than this girl, who even had the benefit of having all her limbs functional and in tact. Regardless, about 15 minutes of standing there, I gave up and left. All I wanted was a bagel. I could have gone home and baked one in the amount of time I stood there waiting for service. read more

Why aren't you here, right now. Yum yum yum pork pressed sandwich with forbidden rice was so good and light. Perfect match to this beautiful day. Service was fantastic, just the right amount of chat and info, and perfect amount of time preparing food. Check out my pics. read more
