Dregs of a fryer

The owner took my fish & fries takeout order, misunderstanding it due to a noisy background. She replaced it at my insistence with soggy fries and overcooked pieces of fish that must have come from the dregs of the fryer. Little fish and mostly crust (see photo). Guess this is the way she corrects an order or is it retribution?

We came as a larger group and they were nice enough for us to order from the breakfast menu as they switched over the lunch menu at 11:30am. Our table enjoyed the food but all agreed it wasn't worth the price point. I tried the chocolate croissant with homemade butter and maple bacon jam along with the Canadian bacon Benedict. The chocolate croissant was nice with the maple bacon jam but definitely not worth the price point of $12. The croissant was quite smaller, like the chocolate croissants you can get from Costco or Starbucks. The Canadian bacon eggs Benedict however was delicious and I really enjoyed it! I just am not sure again it was worth the high price point. However I definitely felt the service was missing. As we were the only ones in the dining area, I felt the service was missing the mark. The server saw we were carrying a baby in the restaurant but didn't ask if we wanted a high chair. My mother-in-law spied it in the corner and then we had to ask for it and we proceeded to set it up at the table. As I was with 2 young kids, I ordered some simple items before the main course like their chocolate croissant and fruit cup. I assumed the server would ask if we wanted those ahead of time but that didn't happen. He also had forgotten my son's drink order and which my son actually had to ask him after some time "where's my juice?" My older son had ordered the s'mores waffles and it looked good when it was delivered but as I cut some of it for me to try later on, I soon realized the batter was uncooked in the middle of most of them. I was thoroughly disappointed he had eaten some of it before I discovered it was uncooked. The server throughly apologized and they remade the order which in the end, we ended up taking home with us. They also didn't take the order off the check for us which normally that would happen. For such a classy restaurant, we would think they would know how to make waffles and for more top-notch service. I think next time we will just enjoy the nice views and choose to eat somewhere else when we are in the area.

The beer was refreshing and easy to enjoy alongside the food. The pretzel was huge, warm, and soft inside with a satisfying chew, served with a savory cheese sauce for dipping. The kimchi had a unique flavor, with a tangy, spicy kick and plenty of character. The pierogies are definitely worth trying--the tender dumplings paired beautifully with the rich, heavenly sauce! If you're lucky, you can snag a seat by the window and enjoy the peaceful lakeside view while you eat. The service was friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this place!

With the great beer you've come to expect from OH and the wonderful lake views, it's hard to see how this place isn't jammed every night. The food was better than expected. The pretzel was massive and cooked perfectly, the pistachio ice cream donut was creative and tasty, and the usual suspects (pub grub) was about as good as it gets. Beertenders were friendly and helpful. Only bad side is the website isn't well updated so many of the to go beers were not available.

Coming in for dinner a couple times with family, we always leave full and happy! On a Saturday, around 6:15pm, three of us arrived and found a parking spot in the stone parking lot. There were quite a few vehicles there already but as soon as we walked in, one of the young servers told us to sit wherever we like and they'd be right over with menus. Inside is surprisingly spacious with a large bar, plenty of tables, stools, chairs, and booths. There were speakers playing a mix of rock classics and several big TVs playing college football. The music was loud enough to hear, while still being able to have a normal conversation; The TVs were muted so that helped keep the acoustics in-check too. We grabbed a booth facing one of the TVs to watch the college football games - The booths' bench seating definitely needs a cushion but we were fine! The waitress came over with menus and gave us a moment to look over the drink menu before coming back and telling us the food specials. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating, very pleasant! It wasn't the quickest service as it took a little extra time for our drinks to make it to the table, but she made us feel like we were regulars, she put us at ease and made us feel welcome and relaxed. It was close to 20 minutes or so before our food arrived, but it was fresh and all came at once so no waiting to dive in! Looking over the menu, I started having a hankering for a burger, so from their smash burgers list, I ordered a double patty (a $2.00 upcharge that is VERY MUCH worth it) "Voodoo Burger" and upgraded from their chips to fries, slaw & pickles. The "Voodoo Burger" is sirloin patties grilled with sweet & spicy Jamaican Jerk BBQ, topped with jalapenos and pepper jack cheese then topped with lettuce, tomato, and red onion. The burger was excellent; The patties were cooked perfectly and juicy! The Jamaican Jerk BBQ sauce had great flavor with a nice kick on the backend. The jalapenos and pepper jack cheese added even more spice and paired perfectly with the BBQ sauce. The fries were cooked nicely and thinner, nothing special to be honest, but still tasty. The coleslaw was a standout for me! Definitely a creamier-take and not as vinegar-y; It tasted a little sweeter and had this delicious poppyseed dressing on top. The double-patty burger, fries, pickles, slaw, and a cold Corona with lime was the perfect dinner - I was plenty full but not "stuffed", that perfect equilibrium. The price too was incredibly reasonable, especially compared to the Buffalo, NY prices I'm used to seeing. Blue Eagle Tavern is a laid-back, relaxed, hometown bar/restaurant with friendly staff and a solid menu. Whenever I've stopped in, it's been a good experience! So, if you're driving along the backroads in and around Penn Yan and to grab a bite, stop in to the Blue Eagle Tavern and order one of their smash burgers! Note that the Blue Eagle Tavern is CASH-ONLY!
