Most plants are grown in Oregon and are adapted to our climate not like some shrubs and trees at lowes and home depot. Keven is very knowledgeable and can help recommend the right shrubs or trees for your needs. Chester acknowledges me every time I visit and can help you find exactly what you are looking for. Waited at the checkout counter for about 8 minutes. Another customer joined me about halfway through my wait. Finally an employee walked through, helping another customer select soil amendment. C. H. is right on in the accolades for Eastside Gardens! In seeing the review we'll add "us too" for a myriad of great experiences with Eastside over the ten years or so we've shopped there. Eastside Gardens has a top notch selection of perennials in sizes from small "tuckers" in 4" containers to robust gallon sized options. They also have a great selection of healthy and Central Oregon growing condition friendly shrubs, vines and trees. An indoor plant area in the main building provides a selection of more "weather delicate" plants. The friendly staff knows their stuff to help make recommendations and answer questions and there always seems to be someone available to help. We always enjoy the displays of funky garden art sculptures that are tucked in the entry garden, and available for purchase too. And it's fun to pet the nursery's friendly cat. On our recent visit, a couple of weeks ago, it was cool to meet "Bob", a wild turkey that had taken up residence at Eastside. He followed us around as we shopped and made us feel even more at home! If we could wave a magic wand, we'd have Eastside bring back the nice selection of native plants that they used to have but no longer carry. Looking for those gems is the only thing that keeps us away from Eastside to look elsewhere these days. Accessibility tip...parking lot is all deep gravel so if you need accessible parking and access, the first challenge will be trying to get from the lot to the nursery itself. Tough to do for a wheelchair user and probably also dicey for users of canes, crutches or walkers. However, once in the nursery, a few of the paths near the main building are solid surface and the gravel paths among some of the plant display areas are smaller grained and more hard packedl than the parking lot making accessibility muh better. Firm surfacing in the parking lot would be a winner strategy all around. read more

I can only concur with the other reviews and the treatment from specifically the owner. Three trees bought, and charged $491 for labor after my husband dug the holes and prepared everything for delivery. Charged for transportation from facility for two workers at 59$ an hour, until their return time. When I discussed in person that I wanted to rebuttal being charged 120$ for transporting the trees, and that if they couldn't at least charge for the accurate time it takes to get from the facility to my house, I was told I "wasn't welcome back, especially if i was going to B**** about something like this". We wanted to support local but what a MAJOR disappointment. read more

Unfortunately I have to downgrade my review significantly, not because of the service but because of business practices and billing. The team did a great job installing our newly purchased trees and shrubs but we were quoted $59 per hour. However what was not disclosed was that this is PER PERSON per hour and you are not informed how many people will be allocated to your job. This was only evident once receiving the bill... so a project that was quoted at 59$ per hour suddenly went to 180$/hr as 3 people showed up for the job. Unfortunately the representative denies not stating per person, however I verified 3 x with her as it would have greatly influenced what I would have allocated for them to do.... Therefore recommend if you want work to be done be sure you know it's per person and you ask how many people will be allocated to the job before hand, otherwise you will be stuck with a hefty bill. read more

Not comfortable writing a negative review of a family owned business. But I do want to caution potential buyers. Unlike other nurseries where I've purchased trees that had 1 year guarantees, Eastside has a 90-day guarantee. I do give Kevin kudos for helping me pick out 2 pretty trees acclimated to our climate...he was very kind. In the past year I've purchased 5 evergreen trees from Schultz and 2 from Eastside. In late April, Eastside planted the 2 trees I bought from them. By early July, they were both struggling. These are planted in the same location as the other 5 new trees, and all have the same irrigation system directly at their roots and get extra hand watering as they get established. I hated to give up on one of the trees, but in September I had to call its time of death. The other tree I purchased and had planted by Eastside is struggling too, but so far still alive. The other 5 trees purchased elsewhere are thriving. The tree that died was not dead during the 90 day warranty but was clearly on its way. There was nothing the owner was willing to do.....I didn't want a replacement for free, but possibly a discount or at the least to have them remove the dead tree. Because the 2 trees from Eastside had struggles (with 1, so far, dying) and the 5 from elsewhere are doing fine, I would caution customers to understand the 90-day warranty and be willing to lose a tree or 2 if purchased from here. I feel very compelled to write a review. I am and have been a Bend resident. I've only gone here a couple of times. Both times I was not acknowledged. Both times an employee looked right at me, gave a little stare and kept walking. On the wall I see for sale a decorative metal piece that is a rifle. It says, "we don't call 911". Eastside is slowly moving down my rating scale. I loved this place when we first moved to Bend, but then the customer service began to deteriorate. The selection continues to be really good, but I think I might have to move on. Today's experience, 5/14/17 at 11 a.m., check out with a rather subdued women who helped me the week before and was just as dour. I get rung up for my plants, as I'm walking out I notice that I've purchased two plants that are marked $6.95, but she charged me $8.95. So, I head back in and tell her. She tells me that the plants in question are $8.95, I show her that they are marked $6.95. She tells me they came to the nursery marked with the wrong price. Hmmm.....okay, but they are marked $6.95, there's no sign that says perennials are $8.95. Yes, it's a $2 difference per plant, obviously this doesn't break the bank, but I'm pretty sure that the price that's marked on an item is the price of the item, regardless of whether there is an error along the way? It's a problem for her....she's stalling, I'm not happy either. I don't wait it out and just end up leaving. Okay, so my attitude wasn't great. The refund policy is pretty tight. See my previous review when I purchased two bags of mulch, only to load them in my car and see that they are sold out and then have to fight for my refund without paying a surcharge. Plants can not be returned. There is a 20% restocking fee for returning pots. If you know what you want and are diligent about making sure that you are charged correctly and have all the items you wanted, then you are good to go. If you are not diligent and there is some sort of a problem, forget about an easy resolution. read more

The last time I went there I was questioning the sales woman about a plant that I wanted but that the ones there looked dead. She went on and on about the reason they looked that way and how they would thrive in just a couple of weeks... She told me she would get the ones for me that would survive. I got so many other things at the time that I didn't look them over carefully. So incredibly convincing that I doubted what I saw in front of my eyes!When I got home I saw that the plans she insisted were simply hit by some thing at their shop and would survive and flourish in a few weeks were already completely dead before I got home 15 minutes later. The place is extravagant and beautiful and at some point I met some lovely people there and other times the experience was very much like a lot of people have mentioned here. Unprofessional rude over pricing by adding to the ticket price... There were times where (I have seen repeated in many reviews )they acted as if they were doing a favor by letting you buy their merchandise. If they would simply improve their customer service they would thrive. However being despicably rude over the phone ;hanging up on a polite customer and treating people like they are bothering them when needing to ring you up ;selling people completely dead plants... This place has so much potential but it is relying on how long it's been here and the fact that there aren't a lot of choices. Stand behind your business and make it a good one! A bump...let's see if the Yelp filter will post this one (originally posted - and flagged - a few years back): ********************************************************************** We had been (up to last year) been purchasing shrubs, trees, pond plants, mulch, and fertilizer from Eastside Gardens for almost 10 years. Here's why we won't ever again: In the fall, we purchased three fruit trees from Eastside: two plums and a peach (the last three plums and peaches they had on the lot). We were told, that they had a one - year guarantee (which was good, because they looked a little ratty - the only reason I purchased them was because I figured, at least this way they wouldn't get thrown out if they didn't sell). The plums made it through their first winter, but the peach died within a month. So, my wife tried to bring it back for a replacement. She was told by a staff member, then another staff member, that EASTSIDE had to have planted the tree in order for its guarantee to be honored. When my wife told these people that the "Eastside planting rule" was never mentioned when we purchased the trees, she was told "Well, that was last year's staff, and they didn't know. " Later, I called and asked to speak to the owner. I introduced myself, and told him the same story you read above. Below follows a pretty close paraphrase of the discussion I had with him: Him: "So, was it one of the $43 trees?" Me: "I think so, let me go look at the tag - it's still on there...yep, $43.95. Peach, Semi Dwarf." Him: "Well, we sold out of peaches last week." Me: "OK...when do you get more in?" Him: "We don't. You sell peaches once in the spring. Then we stop. We can't get any more." Me: "But...you sold me this tree in the fall." Him: "Well, we had some left over." Me: "Yes, but this one was on its last legs, and the only reason I brought it home was because of the guarantee." Him: "Look, it's supply and demand." Me: "Sounds to me like you have plenty of demand if you're selling out of tree in early spring. Why not find out a way to get some more in stock...and how are you going to honor your guarantee to us?" Him: "You wanna tell me how to run my (expletive) business? I don't need this (expletive) (expletive)! You can (expletive) sue me for the credit!" And then he hung up. For the record, sir, I wasn't being a wise - ass: only inquisitive as to a) why you wouldn't order more trees that had sold out and b) why you wouldn't honor your guarantee. I really don't care if your staff told me the wrong thing (repeatedly) - that's YOUR problem to deal with. But don't worry...I won't be back to shop at EG again. I have always loved going to Eastlake Gardens for all my spring planting's. They have a vast selection. In December I purchased a Colorado spruce for my front yard. After it had been planted the owner stopped by and told me that it was the wrong tree selection for a front yard of my size. Charlie hand selected several trees that would be best in the space I have. I met with Alle, and she showed me the trees best suited for my yard. I chose one and he had the spruce taken out and my new tree planted which is a Bosnian Pine. Slow growth which is capped at 20ft. It's perfect and I love that they went above beyond and exceeded any expectations I may have had. Thanks for everything Eastside!!! I love my new tree!!! read more

Overpriced plants! I spent $63 for two dwarf mugo pines. Lowes price per plant (with better planting instructions): $6.98. And the plants at Lowes looked much better than their counterparts at Eastside. I had to comb through all the plants to find two decent looking specimens. I admit its not a completely apples to apples comparison because the Lowe's plants were half the size of those at Eastside. So double the price of the pines at Lowes and add in $6 for 'extras' and you get a sale price of $20. Two stars for pricing, three stars for selection. I can't address service because I really didn't get any. Nobody could be bothered to walk me over to the mugo pine area, I found it myself. read more

I had the absolute worst customer experience of my life with Eastside Gardens. We ordered a tree and at the time of purchase were told we could cancel the order for store credit before delivery. After talking to our neighbors, we called Eastside Gardens to cancel the order. The woman answering the phone and managing the store said that was fine. Later in the day we received a call from the very angry and rude owner, telling us how much we had inconvenienced him. We apologized and said we would have taken the delivery if we were told as much when we'd called. He did not mention any charges, just a lot anger. When we went back to Eastside Gardens to use our credit, we were charged $180 in restocking and inconvenience fees, most of the value of the tree. The owner said the people answering the phone and operating the counter are separate and don't know what's going on. He was even more rude this time. Amazingly bad service. read more

My husband and I recently moved into a new rental house. There wasn't any landscaping in the back yard, except sod. So, having had good experience with Eastside Gardens in the past, I called them to come out and give me some ideas and a plan that I could then submit to our Landlord. The Landlord, based on my recommendation, made arrangements with Eastside Gardens to have some trees and shrubs installed in the back yard. On the morning of the install date, the owner of Eastside Gardens (Chester Cocco), and one of his employees came to the house to layout where the trees and shrubs were to be installed. Not knowing the scope of work that was going to be performed, I asked Chester if they were going to install any additional sprinklers, since the current sprinklers would not reach the trees properly. Chester said that "he was under contract, and there would be no discussing anything. He had his orders and would follow them, regardless of my input." I tried to explain to Chester that I was responsible for maintaining the trees and shrubs, once they were installed. His reply was that "there would be no talking about what was happening with the landscaping. He would only do what he was contracted to do, and that I had no business butting in." Chester went on to say that "we (my Husband and myself) were just transients, and could be gone in a month. I had no need to know anything." That afternoon, Chester's employees showed up to install the trees and shrubs. After having to ask the employee (who was at the house that morning, with Chester) to not run over a plant with his edger, I asked him if they (Eastside Gardens) were going to deep soak the trees and shrubs before leaving. His response to my question was "get out of the way and let him do his job." At that point, my Husband told him to leave. The next morning at approximately 8:00 AM, Chester called the Property Management company who we have our Rental Agreement with, and told them that "somebody needs to control that Woman", referring to me. This is what Eastside Gardens website says: "Customer Service is # 1." "Unlike other Garden Centers, you are not alone at Eastside Gardens, our staff welcomes you and your gardening questions and we have the expertise to answer them." Those statements were definitely not exemplified by the Owner of Eastside Gardens, nor by his employee, toward me. I called Chester and told him that based on the way he treated me, I was going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and post a review of my experience with him on Yelp and Angie's List. The last communication I received from Chester was this voicemail message: "Oh, yes, Terri, I just wanted to inform you that if you falsely slander the Nursery name and don't have actual justifications for everything you do, we have Attorneys on retainer who will actually come after you and sue you for treble damages. So I encourage the fact that you slander my name so that we can actually sue you. Talk to you later." read more

Don't shop or do business with this Bend service or the owner, Chester: I called Eastside Gardens because they advertise snow removal in the winter. They told me to call Chester and he does snow removal for them. I called Chester and got a message that his voice mail was not set up. I should have seen this as a warning sign right away. I hung up and very quickly got a call back from Chester. I asked what the cost was to have my driveway shoveled. He told me $89. I told him it was a long driveway and explained the whole driveway situation to him. He told me it didn't matter how big or small the job was or how long it takes to do the job his set price was $89. We set a day and time and he came out and took care of the driveway with a snow plow that had Eastside Gardens written on the side. There were also a few guys shoveling snow. I then got a bill from Eastside Gardens, Inc for $129. He had added on an additional $39. for the snow shoveler's. I called him and again no voice mail and then he called me back. I told him about the price discrepancy and I reminded him about the $89. total fee he quoted me. He didn't mention shoveler's at all. He then started yelling things at me (some foul) and I hung up. I then called Eastside Gardens and got a voice mail that they would be closed from Christmas until March 2017 therefore no one to make my complaint to until March. I saw no place on their website for referrals or comments from customers. After checking around a bit I found that Chester was the owner of Eastside Gardens and the reviews on his services were mostly just awful (no wonder he hasn't set up his voice mail with so many complaints). I've filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and suggest that others do the same as these complaints usually do get resolved and the complaint stays on the BBB record and anyone looking for a reputable business usually checks with the BBB before hand. read more

Wow, nice to see we weren't alone in the extremely poor customer service area. After spending months planning our garden and contacting this nursery multiple times regarding price for soil, they raised the price when we called to order. Just the day before we called to order we were quoted $49 per yard. The day we called we were told $69 per yard. When we politely expressed our disappointment with the wrong quote (we received the same quote for $49 twice within the last two months) the person on the phone very rudely told us to go somewhere else if we didn't like it and then hung up on us! So we went somewhere else. We will never give them our business again! I don't see how anyone can stay in business operating like they do. read more
