Store owner Andrea was helpful and friendly. Her dogs are so sweet as they make their rounds walking about. There's a mix of items here so it's not just house plants and indoor gardening types of things. Lots of the items if not all are sourced from local artisans. Check out Staghorn, it's a nice stop and the Saturday market is also right about the corner.

They even had a section for plants that are safe for dogs and kids! I wish I could have bought all of them and made my house into a living jungle. This Yelp review is to help point others to this little gem "on purpose". If you're looking for a landmark to find Earth's Art - Tumalo Garden Market as you drive from Bend to Tumalo, it's in the long red and white building that you can't miss seeing from the road. But this garden store and nursery is tucked in the back of that building. BOTTOM LINE: This will be on my regular rotation for garden plant and accent shopping! If you enjoy Eastside Gardens in Bend (I think it's among the best of local nurseries - http://www.yelp.com/biz/eastside-gardens-bend ) you might think of this as a much smaller version of that. WHAT IT IS / WHAT IT SELLS: Part indoor garden shop with amazingly healthy house plants (as all of us in Central Oregon's high dessert climate know, this can be hard to achieve here), garden tools, garden hats, birdhouses, bird feeders, pots and an array of other things. Part outdoor garden nursery area with gravel walkways leading to green houses of pre potted displays as well as perennials in sizes from four inch pots to gallon containers to larger. Some vegetable starts are also in the mix. The nursery extends beyond the greenhouses and you find many kinds of trees for sale there. Some of the plant containers and birdhouses and garden accents are made by local people. Tip: Look at the cool planters made by a local guy out of defunct propane tanks. There is a reason Garden Arts sells out of these. But more than simply retail sales are here. Earth's Art - Tumalo Garden Market also offers classes, like an upcoming Wildlife Gardening class (my favorite way to garden as my Yelp profile reveals). They also provide services to help with landscaping and home agriculture. VALUE: Prices on all things seemed very reasonable. We bought two pretty planted pots to use in a cart we keep on our front porch and we paid about 25% less than we would have for something of similar quality elsewhere. Not to mention we probably couldn't have put these together as artfully on our own. (Note: Like them on Facebook and you'll get 10% off your purchase.) VERY FRIENDLY, KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF: The woman who runs the store, Linda, is enthusiastic about what the owner is doing here and a font of information and uber helpful. Delightful. ACCESSIBILITY: The parking lot has well over 50 spaces but only one accessible stall, so code minimums are not met here, and it is not well marked. The good news, though, is the lot is paved and not gravel. Also good news, the garden store is level in and accessible including the loo. The bad news is large loose gravel at the nursery would make it impossible for a wheelchair user - or someone pushing a stroller. On the day I visited, a user of Canadian crutches and another user of a walker were struggling on the large, loose gravel. THIS N THAT: 1) FARMERS MARKET: During 2012, the Tumalo Farmers Market is held here on Thursday afternoons from 3:00 - 6:00. Started the end of May and will run through September. 2) TUMALO ART WORKS (TAW): This is located in the same complex and has for sale the work of local craftsman and artists. I don't have enough time to fully detail my experience with Newport Landscaping, but I can…read moreconfidently say I would never give this company another penny. I hired them for roughly $100,000 worth of residential landscaping work (no hardscaping, just grass, mulch and planting), and the results were extremely disappointing -- both in workmanship and customer service. The experience deteriorated to the point where I had to threaten legal action and report them to the Oregon CCB for breach of contract before anyone took my concerns seriously. A few highlights from the experience: * The project manager showed up to my property multiple times smelling strongly of alcohol -- on the rare occasions he actually came to the job site. * The professionally designed landscaping plan we paid for and provided to Newport was not followed. Major deviations were made without approval, which created unnecessary issues throughout the project. * Their estimate severely underbid the amount of mulch required for the property -- by more than 40 yards. This caused delays, frustration, and obvious concerns about the competence of the planning process. * Coordination between Newport Landscaping and Thompson Pump & Irrigation was terrible. I essentially had to act as the general contractor myself just to get the irrigation pond functioning properly, and it took months to resolve. * Jana, who I believe is an administrative manager, initially came to the property, listened to concerns, and assured me they would make things right. Unfortunately, nothing meaningful happened until I began threatening legal action and filing complaints with the CCB. There's far more I could say, but the bottom line is this: this company appears far too large and disorganized for the level of professionalism they advertise. Even some of their own employees openly complained about the company and management while on-site, which frankly is embarrassing. Read the 1-star reviews carefully. You may get lucky and have a good experience, but you may also end up deeply regretting your decision like I did.
