I ordered sesame chicken and two chicken fried rice, Ts was $40 and I swear to god they used uncle ben's mexican rice for the rice cause the taste of the rice was much closer to mexican restaurant rice than american-chinese food rice. Sesame chicken didn't taste right either but I can't lie I finished it out of spite cause I didn't want to let this place ruin my vibe. $40 for the food I got is absolutely insane, hibachi restaurant level prices at a budget chinese food restaurant, for public highschool lunchroom quality food. For $10.55 a plate of crap! - Beef teriyaki on skewers that was S-O tough, it went straight to the garbage. - Grease filled Egg Roll veggie/no meat. - They were out of the BBQ Spare Ribs, so they gave us (UGH!!) and additional Beef Teriyaki skewer - - you know where THAT wound up. - Shrimp Toast?!? I could have sworn it was a deep fried cube of Thanksgiving sage dressing. I. Kid. You. Not. - Fried Shrimp. It appeared to have a lovely tempura batter. Golden brown. Nice crispiness to the outside. Then pure, raw batter. GROSS. - Fried Won ton. On the appetizer menu, it was listed as crab/cream cheese filled. I will be DARNED if I know what was inside of this thing. - FINALLY!! A redeeming bit of deliciousness - fried chicken wing/drummies/flats. Really, REALLY tasty, moist and piping hot. I tried the "Chicken" Chow Mein. I swear - - there was not one bit of chicken in this. There is no way I will even consider trying this place again. To those who like/love the place - - good for you! I've lived in the south suburbs for a few years and East China remains the best and most consistent Chinese delivery option available IMO. Patrons would be wise to try the Singapore Chow Mei Fun and General Tso's entrees. Also, for those of you who like a crispy chicken wing, try them here. East China has had its ups and downs but we decided to give it another try this last month and we have not been disappointed. The sweet and sour chicken is our "go to" meal. We usually try to mix in a couple of spicy and non-spicy entrees. The combo dishes gives just the right amount of the entree with an egg roll too and choice of rice that I usually have enough for my lunch the next day. Easy to order online too! read more

This place is pretty decent! A lot of the food is very reminiscent of the typical American-Chinese food you find everywhere, but they simply execute it better than most. The Singapore Chow Mei Fun is VERY good, and well worth ordering. I don't think I'd ever tried it before but it's basically thin noodles and curry with a variety of meats (shrimp, chicken and pork maybe) and a little spice. Yum! I also ordered the General Tso's and Kung Pao chickens "Extra Spicy" and it was medium at best... but I ordered Chicken and Garlic Sauce "Medium Heat" and my girlfriend thought it was hot. She's a wimp though, so it was probably also medium. In any case, not very spicy-- kind of a bummer. Also, half of my General Tso's had soggy breading and half of it was crispy. I think this is typical from them, as I remember that being a complaint before too. Sauce is good though, and so are the portions. Egg Rolls are fairly meh. The Singapore Chow Mei Fun is bomb though, so 4 stars it is! Picture time! read more

First of all just do takeout here as it must have been take your kids to work day as there were toys scattered around dining area. There was only 2 tables so takeout must be the main part of the business. I stopped here after finding lai wai closed. They Took a vacay. I ordered chicken lo mein combo for me, chicken chow mein combo for spouse and son had orange chicken combo. These combo plates were $7.55 each and include white or fried rice and an egg roll. All family members liked their food. The portion sizes are huge so there is another meal easily. They put food in foil containers so it was real hot taking out of paper Bag. Decor needs maintenance badly. Looks family run and no chain. Support local businesses. Used yelp coupon for an extra egg roll for free. read more

Well... A year or so later I decided to try this place again. I am glad I did. On a last minute lark I walked in and placed an order for two combo dishes of General Tso's chicken. The pork fried rice was spot on!! MUCH better than the last couple times I was there! They are back on my list of places to go for local Chinese food take out! Got takeout from here on a Saturday night after some serious Chinese food cravings. I got the Beef w/ Mushroom, and my girlfriend got the Kung Po Chicken. Mine ended up being very "meh", but hers turned out alright. We also got some Wontons which were pretty decent. I would eat their food again if someone showed up with it, but probably won't be seeking it out anytime soon. However...they are open later than other Chinese places in the area on a Saturday night, so something to consider if you're super hungry. I've tried this place several times. Each time, the food has been just this side of mediocre and the service is limited to hello and goodbye. Neither makes you raise your eyebrows, but the extra touch of service starts to matter when you are running into issues with your food. The first time I did takeout, I ordered shrimp toast- and it came burnt-to-a-crisp black. They shrugged their shoulders and waved me off. I wasn't thrilled, but no place is perfect. It was takeout, and kitchens make mistakes. Tonight, my family did takeout from East China, and once we dug into our food, we realized that they had shorted us a container of rice. After calling them, they made it abundantly clear that they were not only convinced *we* had made the mistake, but they were dead-set in letting us know that we could suck it up for all they cared. What these people are doing is pretty amazing!!!!! My wife and I love this place. The food is always on point! I could walk into this place and order food and they ask me if we sold our house yet. Great attention to detail! Food is always fresh, they're willing to customize things to order if you ask, which is pretty sweet. Every time I have similar food, I always compare it to East China, East China takes it every time. Even when we were eating Chinese food in Chinatown in Chicago we were like man!!! East china is better. The food is great the service is amazing. You really feel like they appreciate your business, when it should really be the other way around. For us, living in an area that embraces the Panda Express', Leeann Chins, and other local Chinese restaurants turning their work space into a mural of knock off handbags; East China is the breath of fresh air I've been waiting for. I've been in only about four or five times now and yet every time I walk in I'm greeted with smiles from both the owner's faces as if they remember me and are thrilled to see I returned once again. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and I never feel awkward waiting while my food is being made up. The food itself won me over my very first visit. I went with the safe bet of Orange Chicken and White Rice to see how they compared to the competition. At the first bite my watering mouth had made up its mind as I tasted the crispy exterior covering the juicy chicken inside. I suggest this place to everyone. Kids just getting out of school (or skipping school), the hungover crowd on Saturday mornings from Friday night, and mostly families because East China will became a special experience for your family as it has mine.
