I switched to EarthLink a couple of years ago because of Spectrums price hikes and failure to negotiate. EarthLink has been a nightmare. Sketchy WiFi connections that drop. Hidden fees and charges for rental equipment. Also false advertising of download speeds. I currently am dishing out over $80 a month. The current speed is 11.5 mbps. It took a week to backup my iPhone to the iCloud due to this speed. Consumers beware of this company. read more

These people flat out lied to me to get me to sign up for service. I asked, specifically what happened after I used all my data, would I then lose internet until next cycle or would it just throttle down the speed like a cell phone and I would still have internet access just at much slower speed. The rep said it would do like cell service and throttle down but I'd still be able to access it. He also told me that there is unlimited data for 100 bucks a month, which there is not, not for the wireless anyway. Shady company and as soon as I'm able I will find a different provider (I'm on disability and just moved into this apartment so I can not afford another installation fee right now). read more

This is the worst internet and they lie about it. I was told it was unlimited, only to find out it's 300G of high-speed internet, and when you run out, it drops to 1mbps. It would be 1 thing if that were true. On day 1 of my service I performed a speed test to see if I was getting the 100mbps they promised me. After performing several speed tests on several devices with several different testers I found that I couldn't get above 7mbps. I reported this to them and all I got was someone trying to get me to top up my data after a week of using the service. If you are looking for unlimited high-speed internet, be sure to ask if they have any data caps because they can legally tell you it's unlimited as long as they give you some data. It doesn't have to be high-speed. In short, you are better off with dial-up. read more

I would not recommend Earthlink to anyone. While the internet wasn't terrible, they make promises and do not stick with them. They brag about their service, price, and how they are not like other internet companies yet in my experience they are exactly the same. WHATEVER THE SALES PERSON PROMISES YOU, GET IT IN WRITING. They said they would not increase the price out of nowhere, yet they included a free service and then decided to start charging. I didn't notice and after 3 weeks of calling and being told I was going to get a call back but never did, I gave up. An honorable mention to earthlink, they bragged about how their techs were amazing and if any issues happened, they would be able to fix it quickly. Storm happened and the internet line was on the ground for 4 days. That reminds me! During the setup of the internet, they connected it wrong and took 2-3 days to get back out, I guess that should have been the first warning. You have been warned. read more

Sales people will flat out lie to get the sale! We were told our monthly payment would be $39.99 and if we paid $79 up front, they send the router and we set it up ourselves... We asked since we are paying the $79, when would our first payment of $39.99 would be due and she said " 30 days after set up the first bill would be due". So we got the router and when we went to set it up, it made us pay the first month up front before you could connect! Not only did she lie about the first payment being due in 30 days, she failed to mention that there is a monthly router fee too so the bill is NOT $39.99, it's $56.13 per month! So we had to pay over $135 just to get started! This would have been all well and good if they had not LIED about the fees and billing! Just very shady practice! read more

I was with earthlink for over 3 years up my renew contract the canceled my account and told me they can not longer serve my area without any proper notification they set up installation and when I call to find out when they would come they told my account was closed, you call to asked questions the customer service is working from home and can hear they talking with animal and have no clue how to help is possible be on phone holding for hours. read more

The whole experience with EarthLink was awful. We were originally promised a $300 promo gift card. Several weeks passed, never received. When I called to follow up, I got the run around. Several phone calls later, I finally received a gift card for $150 in the mail. They also promised we could use our router, then we received a EarthLink to router in the mail. I called, told them we'd been told we could use our own. Again, we were misled. No big surprise, but they charged $14.99 a month for use of said router, which was not disclosed as far as the cost of service. False advertising, and had we known, we never would have gotten service through them. Connection has been spotty, and extremely slow. Numerous calls to customer service did nothing. At one point, we completely lost service. Took them 2 days to get a technician out. Lo and behold, it was a Verizon technician who gave us more insight and support than EarthLink ever did. They promised to refund the two days, but charged us for the full amount. Between spotty connection, things constantly buffering, and their poor customer service, we decided to cancel. We knew we would be paying the $200 early termination fee, but to further compound it, they went ahead and charged us for the next month's service and refused to give us a refund. Absolutely horrible business practices, horrible experience. Don't believe anything their sales reps tell you--they will lie again and again just to make a sale. read more

Had them send me a psych tech who went off on me and my kids, next day blew my cell up with harassment calls. Then the day after that my Internet had a disconnect on it. It's been hell, a 300 charge for discount fee I'm fighting on. Supervisor not calling back or answering emails. Me spending money to turn it back on and it never gets back on. I wasn't aware that the service was "pay per gig" until I set up my modem. The speeds were awful, and I always had better access to internet/streaming with turning off my internet. My husband had to do the same thing. I reached out over chat to ask about canceling and a refund the day after obtaining service. The chat representative didn't seem to care about the issue, and said I could call a phone number, then asked if there was anything they could help with. No apology or explanation of service or anything or list of troubleshooting tips. I wasn't able to call right away and called a few days later. The lady on the phone said we would not be getting refunded as she didn't believe we were having such low speeds because we "used" 85 gigs of data. I haven't used 200 gigs on my cell phone in the last two years, so it reading that we used 85 after five days is ridiculous. After escalating the issue, they said they couldn't guarantee speeds and even if the speeds were awful at 1mbps that we used 85 gigs and would not be refunded for the shipping or service, if we wanted a refund we should have unplugged the router immediately. I wasn't directed to do so, despite asking for a refund before the 85 gigs were "used." The customer service is awful and they only care about your money, not the satisfaction of the customer. Unplug your router right away if you made the mistake of getting EarthLink. read more

Bait and switch or just complete stupidity. My wife asked if they had a retail location to pick up modem and he said yes. I called the next day and the rep said they do not have retail locations anywhere. Then they said they had an unlimited Gigabit data plan. I only needed to pay the $78 dollars. When we received the equipment I called in to setup they said I had to pay another $100 To activate. Then the service was one of the worst Internet service ever. Loading a game update took more than a day and every YouTube video buffered multiple times. Funniest thing was after the 2nd crappy day I got a message saying I was 50% through my "high speed" internet. Called to cancel after I got spectrum and had no issues at all and Earthlink did not give me a cent back just threatened to charge me if I did not return their crappy equipment and say they provided data. I have been an Earthlink customer for over 5 years, and at this point, their "high speed" DSL internet is absolutely abysmal. Last year Earthlink took 43.95 off my debit card twice for ONE monthly payment, which they weren't supposed to do because I wasn't behind on my payments and I didn't owe them anything. After this, Visa blocked the 2nd payment Earthlink tried to take (considering it was fraud) and issued a new debit card to me. I also submitted a complaint to the BBB, which only resulted in Earthlink agreeing to give me 4 months of $10 credit towards my bill, resulting in my bill only being $33.95. In January of 2023, that credit ended and I noticed that my internet speed decreased TREMENDOUSLY. It went from speeds of up to 150kbps, to a mere 40kbps. Not only that, but a couple of months later, my bill was increased by $5. Resulting in my bill now being a total of $53.95. I'm paying almost $60 a month for Earthlink "high speed" internet that barely amounts to dial up speed. I can only watch Youtube videos at 144p. Anything over that, and the video constantly buffers. Simple tasks such as scrolling Amazon while checking my email is a hassle, because the pages either don't load properly or don't load at all. Signing into websites isn't a simple putting in your information and logging in because the speed is so bad, that any security measures websites have, will fail to load. I still use a Earthlink Zyxel modem, refusing to lease a router and add more money to my already climbing Earthlink monthly bill. However, that doesn't erase the days when my internet connection goes out, bad weather or not and don't expect Earthlink to be transparent when they're experiencing issues. I can't even use the new Zyxel modem I purchased (the same model) because Earthlink's "admin" website (192.168.1.1) isn't accessible at all, at least not for me. It is absolutely ridiculous and disappointing that there are internet companies that operate like this. That make the customer feel nothing but regret for signing up for this kind of service. That make a customer feel trapped when they live in an area that doesn't have a lot options, so they have to take what they can get. This is not the way to treat your customers. This is not the way to treat fellow human beings. There's no excuses for any of Earthlink's actions. They simply don't care. They put more energy into constantly changing their main website, changing features that aren't necessary, than they do into providing better internet for their customers. They don't fight to be better, they don't go above and beyond for their customers. They get paid and they go home. It's deplorable. read more

I must be stupid paying for email in the time of Gmail. But for 22 years I have had an email address with earthlink.net. And last month I got a notification that my billing card was expiring. So I logged on to change the expiration date and I just could not save changes. The idiots changed something in the way how they process this. I spent countless hours on chat and responding to their stupid secure links. To no avail. So they told me to call them. Even gave me PIN number. Then they left me waiting for 56 minutes, and spent another 10 on verifying that I was me, yet after they collected all the necessary data over the phone, I still didn't see the account being updated. The worst internet provider I've ever had. I have only had them a few months and it's awful. The WiFi router is faulty and only works if you're within a few feet. Move more than 5 feet away and it cuts out. Speeds are slow, and lag. Come to find out they installed it with a faulty router and needed to replace it. Only way to do so is have a technician come out. Spent over an hour on the phone to get someone scheduled. They had unbelievably unrealistic times to come but finally found a time that was going to work. They had to escalate to even find openings and magically the days and times they said didn't work, suddenly did. So I get it scheduled for the following Sat. On Tuesday I get call after call because the tech is at my house, while I'm at work trying to switch the modem. I call EarthLink (you'll sit on hold for minimum 30 min) and they're like oh yeah your appointment is scheduled for Wednesday. It was confirmed for Sat, the guy shows up on Tuesday and they think it's supposed to be on Wednesday. FINALLY got confirmed he'll be there Saturday and the customer service rep goes "OKAY?!? BYE" and hangs up. Who is running this place? Not to mention it's expensive for terrible speeds. read more

Earthlink is a rip off! I had them since December 2023. Today they finally sent me a disconnect notice of service because I continue to exceed data usage. The funny thing is ...they state that I exceed my data usage the same week of starting new service. How ? No idea since I am only utilizing 2 devices- my cell and my son's computer- no streaming. Service has been interrupted daily and talking to someone who speaks clear English is a task. Charges were $98 a month. I bet this is a practice that they have adopted ...charge you for jacked up service for 7 months, disconnect you.. and move on to another victim. do not use this service. they are thieves who hook you with an amazing deal of internet, however don't follow through. i paid over $150 for their equipment and one month of service and was only able to use the internet for 2 days. i work from home on a basic laptop and don't do much streaming. i could've paid an additional $5 with my cell phone provider and couldv'e (and have) gotten better internet service than earthlink. i called to see how they could remedy this and of course their resoulution was to upgrade to a higher limit of internet. i explained how i was able to get better service off my phone, and it did not matter to them. i am on a strict budget as a single mom of 2 and my 84 year old parents caregiver. i was informed that this basic internet deal would suffice for my needs, that was not the case. i decided to cancel my service before i was charged for the following month, and requested a refund since i was literally only 1 week in with their service and basiacally had internet for only 2 days. it was declined since the $80 they charge you is for the "shipping and handling" of the router and of course, since i used up my monthly internet limit. avoid earthlink at all costs!!!! read more

I got service with this company 03/20/23 for installation 65.00 never was I told anything about being billed the next day when I inquired about services next thing I know I wake up on 03/24/23 and they cut my service off for none payment of bill when I just got the services. This is crazy no company ever have I had has operated like this and once I even got a chance to speak to a manager everyone sounded like they was British talking to me all proper and not even trying to understand what I'm saying. 2 hours later we finally get someone with some common sense that making it make sense because how am I going to get billed for something I haven't even had yet nor was told this is how they operate. This is the worst internet service I ever had. The internet was essentially non-existent...I'd say I had internet maybe 25% of the time. The $79.99 nonrefundable charge for equipment is a bunch of BS. I live alone and don't need much data, so I signed up for the plan with the least amount of data, which normally would be more than enough for me. But because the coverage was so bad, websites had to keep starting over to load (if they ever could) so I burned through that 100 gigs of data before the month was out. I had to keep track of my data usage, and was told that if I ran out, they would shut off my service unless I added more data. I essentially did not have internet, but there is no grace given for money put out...you're screwed out of the equipment fee the minute they ship it, even if you are unhappy with the service in your home. It ended up costing me $140 for one month, but I gave it a chance and quit that BS service after a month. read more

Earthlink is dishonest and misrepresented themselves. They are using att network and scheduled my new service order as a business enterprise account. If they would have scheduled it as residential the system would have stopped the new order request because the service provider is already here. So I agreed to get faster speeds through Earthlink and yesterday when the tech came to install he was an Att technician. I'm literally connected to the same network but being billed more money from earthlink. But I can't go back to att until earthlink cancels my service. Sp I have to be out of wifi while I wait for the tech to.come back and set up.the att modem I still have and am still being billed for service even though it's the same network. Absolute disaster. I got this for security cameras in a rural location I visit one time per month. Modem crashed on a daily basis and I was without any service for the remainder of the month as I was not physically present to unplug and re-boot the modem. The company could not help via remote as modem was off line. Had to call them numerous times to correct my service and mailing addresses as they people you speak with are clueless. I have been a customer for over 15 years since Time Warner. I have been down for 2 days now and going on 3 days down. Customer service are foreigners and hate us by default. So when they screw us over they will and have. They answer the phone when they want. The tech was supposed to be here between 12-5. It's 7. So they are going to screw me another day. I called the 1st time and the system told me their closed. I called again and they answered. Customer service is horrendous. Internet service is good customer service is none, absolutely none. Not worth the trouble. The only reason I now stay cuz my options are limited, by 2 services. The other service is always down at least 3x a week. Working remote I'm stuck with EarthLink. ON GOING: South Houston TX - Zero Stars. First off I wish I have dug into sh**y company more before ordering for my house. On the day of installation 12p-2pm I have to take a half a day off work unpaid for this. The installer calls me 30min's after 2pm saying I'm scheduled to install AT&T at your home. I'm like no I order led EarthLink I didn't order AT&T. So he had to contact his boss. I called EarthLink 3 few times to see where the installer is at and being hung up on a few times. I spoke to a guy and he stated that they use the AT&T infrastructure and Earth is the one that bills and tech supports. I was that's Ok as long as you do as you say and have very little down time. I've had AT&T in the past and I have customers that still use AT&T and every one of them have ton of problems. He was trying to reschedule for next week I was like hell no I'm not losing more money because of y'all. Get someone here today. So we will see if they fix this mess or not. read more

Do not waste your time or money doing business with EarthLink. I signed up when I moved in May because my pervious internet provider did not service the area I moved to and I needed internet to work from home and as well as my cable service. On June 12th I woke up to my internet not working and called tech support to have the issue resolve. I was told the issue would be resolved by Friday. I waited until 5 pm friday still no service I called back and was told it would be resolved that day and not to worry. Still no internet I paid my bill which I regret because now that I want to cancel I'm being told there's a $200 cancellation fee! How? When I have not had internet for the last 5 DAYS!
