I could not be more pleased with the work that David did to help me advance my technology here at the house. Most of my internal wired network connections weren't working. I suspected that something may have gotten in the attic and munched on cables. Dave came to the house and quickly determined and fixed the issue (the network cable to my gigabit switch, while still appearing to be plugged into the wall, was not fully into the outlet). After fixing that, he re-terminated some of my shoddy work and tested all the cables to insure I was indeed going to take full advantage of my gigabit capabilities.. "You don't need it." This may have been the most repeated sentence during Dave's 3-hour visit - and the most unexpected value. The truth is, I had overdone it. We do a lot of work from home, so reliable internet is critical to us. I had purchased a bunch of mesh routers (my home is 1 floor and pretty spread out), installed them all over the house, and upgraded my internet service to 2GB fiber. And I still was not getting great speeds or reliability. Frustrated calls to the ISP always were 30 minute runaround with the same conclusion - "You're getting 2GB when it gets to your router." Great - but that's no use to us if we don't get good speeds after the router (and ours were 1/15 - 1/10 of this at best). I started searching for reviews of people who provide good home networking diagnosis and solutions. Yelp reviews led me to DM Networking. From the first call, Dave was a breath of fresh air. He is incredibly passionate about his work, and asked a number of questions to learn about what I was looking for and about my current setup, home layout, ISP, devices, and more. By the end of the call, Dave had already made a number of recommendations that already would have been worth his fees, and even said I probably could take those recommendations and get a lot more out of our network without hiring him. I wanted peace of mind though, and thought that an expert seeing things in person would be able to find more problems - so I hired him to do an assessment of our home network, test the cables and equipment, optimize speeds where our home offices are, and make a recommendation about whether I should get some ethernet wiring put in. Dave spent 3 hours doing these things, the entire time essentially providing a basic networking class. I learned things about cables, speed limitations of different routers, speed limitations of wifi vs ethernet cables, and more. Most impactful is that when we tried something different, we tested it immediately, and he was right 100% of the time. Changes made: - I had way more equipment than I needed (there were mesh routers everywhere), and after Dave's simplifying, I was able to return a number of mesh routers (this covered a large portion of the fee by itself). - Dave connected the few routers we kept by cable instead of relying on wifi. WAY faster internal speeds everywhere. - I was not utilizing the power of the ISP-provided main router, which apparently was way better than any of the mesh routers - I would be just as well served with 1GB service than 2GB, so I will be trying to get some more savings there soon - I was creating multiple networks when I only needed one - There are a couple of opportunities to run ethernet wire through to existing ports pretty easily should I want even better speeds in certain places. So, after Dave's visit, we have 2-4 times better speeds in different parts of the house. We have far less equipment and a simpler overall network. Finally, I learned a ton. David with DM Networking is nothing short of amazing! We were completely lost with a tangled mess of networking wires in our new home, and our internet speeds were painfully slow. Week one of moving in and speeds were heavily impacting our ability to work (we both work from home and fast reliable internet is a MUST). David came over the same day we called -- on a Sunday nonetheless -- and completely transformed our home network, IN LESS THAN 3 HOURS. He installed end connectors on all our Ethernet wires (both wire ends for the outlet ports and the network switch ports), setup a network switch, installed a coax connector end on our coax cable so we could move the router/modem to living room, setup 2 routers, and replaced all outlet plates (previously phone jacks) with ethernets compatible plates. We were amazed at how diligently and efficiently he did all of this work. He's not just incredibly skilled, but also kind, patient, and willing to teach. Long story short, it took longer then originally planned due to correcting issues caused the networking company who originally installed my eero sytem. Additionally he reset my entire ring system caused due to issues around the intermittent wifi. David also used his A/V contact to fix my Sonos sytem ( although it is still buggy due to an upgrade recently made by Sonos ). I sent David a message at 10pm and he got back to me within 3 minutes, we spoke on the phone for 10 minutes during which time he patiently explained to me what he believed my technological issues were. I was in a new home and was attempting to get a strong wifi signal throughout the house, but was having trouble achieving this just by self-help. In any case, David scheduled an appointment with me the next day, came over and spent 3 hours fixing everything (note that he charges a very reasonable hourly rate). He rewired my faulty ethernet ports, installed a couple switch boards and connected my internet mesh system. I am a generally curious person and so I tried to follow him around, which wasn't easy because he was literally speed walking/jogging around to make it the most efficient/cost effective as possible for me (seriously, who does that, what a guy!). He made sure I was completely satisfied before he left, and ran several tests to make sure all system were functioning properly. He was patient in answering all my questions.
