I am new to the Red Oak area and we needed internet service. Being new to Texas, I didn't know there were so many options and not so many options. So I called the AT&T customer service line and was told that EarthLink was the best for our area. So I made sure I asked the customer service representative if I was going to get charged any additional charges other than the $59.95. I was informed no that I was not. Well, after I got instalation, I was charged $68.97 for my first month bill. So I was upset because these are the questions I asked the sales rep, and the sales representative lied!!!! So if you go with earthlink, you will be charged $$ instalation fee, then 24 hours AFTER instalation you will be charged your first month's bill) Also if you use a Gmail account for Your account you won't be able to look at your bill on line nor will they be able to help set up your online account. read more

I've been calling EarthLink from 2 different phones & have now been on HOLD for dayummmm near 50 minutes on both lines. Their Customer Service AGENT/CHAT/TEXT services are all TRASH. The machine keeps saying the same thing over & over & over & no one is coming on the phone to ASSIST, but let a service bill payment come due, they're quick to keep sending messages to your phone. My monthly bill has always been $74.13 since I've started up with their Internet last year, I just need for someone to tell me WHY there's been a $10 increase? I'm not payin a dayumm bill with no EXPLANATION as to why. I regret ever doing business with this company. First, they charged me $49 to start the service. But there never was any service... from the start it did not work... was taking five minutes to load a webpage. I contacted technical support, was on the phone on hold for over an hour, to be told they would call me back, but no timeframe was given. I waited two days then called again because I never heard from them. Same thing happened again. I waited three days; did not hear from them. Finally, I contacted another company & cancelled Earthlink. I did not authorize auto pay, but within the first week, EarthLink took $90.21 more out of my checking account!!! After you get another call and a hour hold, I was promised a $90 refund, and they said I could get the $49 back as well but I would have to make a separate call for that. I talked to an agent who said I would get a full refund for the $90 but not the $49, because that requires a separate call & that was only if I returned the router within 14 days. I returned it within two days, but did not get the $90 refund as promised. Instead they refunded $34. So I contacted them by text and spent another half hour fooling around with verification and constant transferring to another agent only to be told. They did not have the tools to issue a refund... mind you I asked for a refund in the very beginning of the conversation. I was told to call back tomorrow. I just got on the EarthLink wagon because unfortunately Xfinity doesn't service my area. I payed a total of $45 a month with Xfinity for both the router and internet connection. EarthLink charged me $54 for internet and an additional $79.99 (absolute bs) for my router to be sent to me which I will eventually have to pay to ship back. Furthermore, I was very clear I needed internet set up before school started on Monday. I was assured by the woman I spoke with on the phone that the latest it would arrive and be set up by would be Friday. Well Friday rolls around and I get a notification that the router will arrive sometime on Tuesday. Frustrating, but not surprising for an internet company. The router finally arrives on Tuesday and I am supposed to just be able to plug it in and set everything up on the app. The router was easy to set up - the green lights that signal it's connected came on pretty quickly so it was all down to the app. However, the app says the router's lights are red and not connected. I tried to do a system reboot on the app, but it would not let me click any of the buttons. I manually unplugged and replugged the router only for it to show the same green connection lights. I tried logging out, deleting the app and redownloading it, and now the app says my email and password aren't right and won't let me sign in. I have been on the phone (still am as I'm writing this) waiting to talk to tech support. It has been 46 minutes and I have yet to speak to anyone. If you have any semblance of self respect, get a different internet company. Earth Link sucks more than a vacuum. read more

We changed from Rise Broadband thinking Earthlink's services would be like they advertise. Absolutely NOT! Be weary of their Sales Reps too. I was not told I would have to pay 14.95 per month for Earthlink after I paid over $70 for the same MODEM. So, it looks like Earthlink is in the MODEM Business in addition to Internet Services. Our internet service had never been so slow! We called 3 times within the first and only week we had their service. Earthlink's service plummeted to way below 8 MBPS. We luckily had not cancelled our Rise Broadband service so we were able to connect our laptops & printer. One more thing, our printer never would connect with Earthlink, only Rise Broadband. We are trying to get our money back now, however, Earthlink has a very strong policy not to give money back and if they do only $30 out of $101. Don't use Earthlink!! You will find more problems and lots of dollars down the drain. Bottom line, Earthlink needs to change their name, Earth Link Scam!!! read more

They never mentioned anything about a contract, lied to me about them being reseller (the sales guy literally told me that this is Earthlinks direct service and they just subcontract AT&T installers to to to connect their own lines) that was a bold face lie. They are resellers of multiple internet services and then they tack a premium on top of it. They promised that my rate would remain at $50.80 and then hiked it up a few months later. I needed to give a new number since mine was not working I call them again asking where the technician was and was told that he was not coming because he could not reach me on the phone. I am beyond mad . I ask to speak to a manager and what do you know no management available. This company is a rip-off. After moving to a rural area, our internet options were limited. After a week on their "unlimited" 300GB plan, we ran out of data. Surprise! The unlimited data is 1GB after you use the 300. I had explicitly explained our needs on the phone with the rep who said this plan would meet it. Now I'm paying almost 40.00 A DAY extra for the data we need for work and school (never mind any entertainment.) The service tech was extremely rude. ZERO STAR! This is the worst internet service company I've ever had and even worse customer service. Trying to set up this network took 2/3 days. After I was finally able to connect the service was extremely slow (24 mpbs according to speed.com). I could not even watch a movie with out it buffering every 15-30 minutes. I brought this up and I was told I can be charged to increase the speed by 25 mpbs. They made excuses for EVERYTHING I had to say. On top of all of this the service is not unlimited so I was at half of my capacity after trying to watch a few movies. After 3 days I canceled and was told that I could not have a refund. I went to Verizon today and set up took minutes and Verizon's speed is running at 380mpbs and cheaper than EarthLink. Don't waste your time with this company. Keep looking at other options read more

I decided to try Earthlink as I am at least average tech savvy and did not mind that they would just mail me a box with instructions on connecting. In any event, I saw they had a service guarantee. I followed the install instructions to the letter, but no matter where I moved the device I still only received a blinking blue light, never a single green light showing some connectivity. I concluded that my apartment was not able to receive the signal from the tower. I then proceeded to call to cancel the service (unable to cancel on the app directly it seems, hmm). The customer service person was rude, talking over me multiple times until I called out their behavior and began talking over them. They insisted that I allow them to centrally activate my device. I told them I had no confidence in the service since I was not able to get a single green bar showing any sign of connectivity potential, and the fact that they can temporarily boost power to activate my device was not reassuring. I wanted to avoid an activated device that nevertheless could not receive the internet signal under normal conditions. I then cancelled the service over the phone, even as the representative admonished me for not letting them activate the device, and warned me that the $85 is nonrefundable. I then had to (successfully) dispute the charge, and got all my money back as the credit card company agreed that Earthlink did not provide the service they promised, and tried to not honor their guarantee. So a fair bit of time wasted, and if you cannot get a single green bar yourself I recommend you dispute the service like I did. Or better, try all other options first--to save yourself time and frustration dealing with indignant and self-righteous customer service representatives. I was switched from Earthlink DSL to Earthlink Wifi and things have not been great. First, I was cut off from Internet access without warning. I was told I had run out of space for the month. I was pushed to a more expensive plan. But when I tried to log into my wifi account to check on my usage rate, I found that my password was no longer operative. When I tried to change my password, the system did not recognize me. I literally have spent hours on the phone with technical support to get a new password. But technical support keeps bouncing me between the Wifi group and the email group. The only thing they seem to agree on is that neither group can help me. I tried to escalate my concerns, but despite being promised on 9/22 that I would be helped no one from Earthlink escalations has contacted me. Basically, if you have a problem you just get bounced around endlessly between different parts of the company each telling you its the other side of the house's issue to resolve. read more

I went to cancel it again and they charged me $309. Then the lady on the phone corrected it to a different number. I overpaid them. On top of that Norton Security who is a partner with earthlink and is a scam and basically a computer virus company that sells your information online made it extremely difficult to get off of my computer. I was searching for cheaper options and came across Earthlink. I paid a 20 dollar startup fee and they said they would send a modem. I ended up cancelling the next day and I asked them to refund the 20 dollars and that I would refuse the modem when it tried to deliver. I refused the modem in June and here we are on August 18th and my account has been charge 319.00 dollars for that modem that I refused. so I woke up to a negative account that they charged me for something I refused almost months ago. Here is my unbiased review of EarthLink. I have been an EarthLink customer for many years, including during a period when I used their service at a different address. Unfortunately, my overall experience with EarthLink has been frustrating and disappointing, particularly in terms of customer service. First, getting in touch with EarthLink's customer service is a nightmare. The phone wait times are typically over an hour, and even though they promise to call back, they only do so sometimes. If the call accidentally drops or disconnects, there's a 50/50 chance they won't call back at all. The representatives are often difficult to understand and communicate with, either due to a language barrier or because they simply don't understand my questions. Even when they do understand, they frequently fail to provide clear or helpful answers. I also tried using EarthLink's instant chat feature, which I initially preferred over phone calls. However, this turned out to be equally frustrating. Whenever I asked questions, instead of answering, the reps would just give me a phone number to call because they couldn't handle my inquiries. It's clear that the instant chat reps are not well-trained, and the service is practically useless for resolving even simple issues. In terms of pricing, EarthLink charges $56 a month for the plan I purchased (one of the lower-priced plans), and I had to rent their proprietary modem/WiFi router combo for an additional $15 per month. I wasn't allowed to purchase the modem/router, which I found annoying but understandable from their business perspective. However, the overall value for money is poor. The monthly data allowance and connection speeds are inferior compared to what I now get with Xfinity. I finally decided to cancel and switch to Xfinity. The difference is night and day. Xfinity offers higher bandwidth, a more generous data cap, and better pricing--even after the promotional period ends, the cost is about the same as EarthLink's, but with much better service quality. In conclusion, I cannot recommend EarthLink based on my experience. Their customer service is severely lacking, their equipment policies are restrictive, and their internet service is overpriced for what you get. Switching to another provider was the best decision I made, and I encourage others to explore alternatives before committing to EarthLink. While calling to cancel the service, I spoke with one final customer service representative named Cameron, who was very helpful and genuinely concerned about my frustration. He was the only positive interaction I had with EarthLink, and I appreciated his kind service. I told him that I was upset with EarthLink, not with him, and that he should receive kudos from his boss for his kindness and for answering my final questions. read more

This company is a joke. They assured me that I'll have service coverage in my area, charged me $79.95 (handling fee) shipped cellular router that couldn't be activated due to lack of cellular signal. In spite of inability to activate service, part of the equipment activation is an immediate monthly charge. The incentive they offered was a $50.00 gift card after keeping the service for three months (that's never arrived). 12/31/24 our bill jumped to $87.66 with no warning. I called customer service. A man with a heavy Indian accent told me there was an upcharge for the modem (never mentioned in the online offer or on the phone) and that they had experienced inflation , so the rate went up. I tried to ask questions but he talked over me. I asked to speak with a manager. He told me a manager would tell me the same things he had told me and he declined to connect me with a manager. When I raised my voice he lectured me on how inappropriate that was. You don't want to get mixed up with them. AT&T provides their installation.
