Heather and her crew at Earth Smart Design are the absolute BEST! Super responsive, incredibly reasonable prices, VERY fast crew, listens to what you want, and really, really, really knows her stuff! She and her crew completed our front yard, and inner-courtyard conversion from traditional water-guzzling grass and ugly shrubs to water-wise and beautiful desert landscape, including new hardscape concrete walkways, less than a week after breaking ground. She has a degree in landscape design, and her crew does it all--plants, irrigation, design, hardscape... Her knowledge and experience, as well her patience and understanding came in very handy while working through all of the HOA requirements and approvals, too! We also had her convert our very big and (formerly) really ugly dirt backyard into a beautiful combination of a small patch of real grass, a new patio, pavers, all new irrigation, a small fountain (we provided) that gets automatically filled with the irrigation dribblers, a tricky walkway over some raised tree roots, lighting, and a variety of desert plants that will fill-in beautifully with the existing bougainvillea, oleander, and palm trees we retained around the edges for privacy. Her estimate was roughly half of what one of the big outfits was quoting, and her timeline was much faster, too. Both were accurate; they were done with the backyard project (after a number of rounds of design first) in less than two weeks, and the only increases to the price were due to my design changes and plant additions after the fact. She also comes back multiple times to adjust sprinklers/dribblers, any plants that died of stress, and to make sure everything is filling in properly or make adjustments. The ONLY thing I wish I/we had done differently was to have budgeted-in having the crew lay down pre-emergent grass & weed inhibitor on all the soil around the new plantings, but underneath the gravel, prior to putting the gravel on top, to prevent the old turf from popping back up as weeds. It still would've needed re-application every six months or so, but it would've given a head start to preventing more of the pesky crab-grass that really wants to grow back in after it was removed! read more

I have used Earth Smart Design for years. This year they did the front and backyard at my new build which a wrote about in and earlier review. This review is for the work they did at another property. The front drip system was replaced and several large bushes were removed giving the yard a clean look. The agave plants will only grow to 18" to 2' tall filling in the areas which will accent the boulders behind them. The lady slippers will add height growing 6'X6' but not give the yard an over grown look. Heather and her team are detail oriented which assures that the customer is happy. What a dream, truly professional company to work with and exceptional attention to detail! The experienced workers were fabulous and so professional. Heather answers any and all questions and is so pleasant to work with. She wants her customers to be happy and it shows as she stays in contact regarding what time the workers will arrive, any questions, followed up during the install and after. We had pavers added to the front, ribbons down the driveway sides, modified a paver area, added landscape lights and turf in the front and back. I wanted a circle in the sidewalk and not the same square or curved and she looked tirelessly for a circle kit, but could not find one. I moved into a very nice home, but the landscaping had been neglected. Two trees were very scraggly and nearly barren of leaves. The decorative rocks were disheveled and the plastic was tattered. Heather came up with a plan to upscale my yard with a dwarf palm, plants, cactus, rocks, and boulders. All this and an automatic drip system. The yard now looks just beautiful. The trees? Heather advised me on how to revive them, and they are now flourishing. One was a lemon tree, but it received Heather's help too late to bear lemons this year, but she assures of a bumper crop next year. The neighbors were quite delighted with that good news. Just built a new home and had a big, dusty dirt backyard that needed to be landscaped. I called several companies and had 4 other quotes. I told each company the budget I had to work with, my contemporary design ideas and features I'd like to have: turf, fire pit, dog run, etc.. The other companies came back with quotes that were way over my budget and either came back with drawings that were not even close to the style or features I had requested or they didn't provide a drawing at all. This past summer we had a company, Earth Smart Design, landscape our entire back yard. They did such a fabulous job that we just had them do our front yard. Once again I can't say enough good things about this landscaping company. The owner, Heather, and her crew show up on time, everyday, all day long. That in itself is amazing. They are courteous, hardworking (only take one, maybe two breaks) and always leave our yard looking awesome. This is how I know someone takes their job serious. We asked them to dig up a plant from our backyard and replant it in the front. Some workers would dig the plant up (and leave the hole there, unfilled and looking awful) but they filled in the hole, smoothed out the stones and left the area in good condition. They also replaced a part of my hose in the front and I didn't even ask them to.
