Colorworks Landscape Design, Inc. is one of the best out there, period! My wife and I started 2025 wanting to do a complete backyard makeover. We began by ripping out existing plants, pavers, brown gravel, and artificial turf for both a putting green and a general use area. We started by building a pool (a cheap plug for Dolphin Pools who did an amazing job). After the pool was completed, the second half of the project was ready to begin. This is where Colorworks stepped up to the plate. I could not begin this without mentioning one of the owners, "Jon Hammel". Colorworks Landscape Design, Inc. received rave reviews on Google and Yelp, so we reached out and were promptly scheduled for a complimentary estimate. Upon Jon's arrival, I could sense his excitement and creativity as he envisioned transforming our dream backyard into the upgraded space we desired. Although we had a plan in place, Jon skillfully incorporated his unique ideas, resulting in a comprehensive rendering of the project. We were immediately convinced that Colorworks was the ideal choice for our project. What truly set Jon apart was his unwavering honesty and thoughtful approach to refining our existing plan, ensuring that it reached its full potential. I want to clearly state that there are many stages to such a massive project. There are always going to be delays, and we had a few. Additional parts needed to be ordered, and of course, the weather did not always agree (lots of rain). Since our backyard is not the largest, every inch of the project required attention, and Jon fully comprehended that. The project included 3 large retaining walls, 164 Sq ft. of pearlescent travertine, 18 Indian laurel ficus trees with 6 tons of topsoil, 450 sq ft. of Daytona 80 0z turf, 4 stoned columns on a pergola, a wood accent backdrop for pots, and white rocks. This also included taping into existing irrigation drip, electrical lines, and reusing leftover pavers in other areas. Jon (along with our ideas) was the brains of the project, but Cesar Aldama is the contractor who brought it all together. Cesar, along with Ginato, is an excellent team. They showed up on time and worked tirelessly each day, and consistently cleaned up before they left. They always treated our home with respect, and we couldn't help but notice. Cesar is an expert in construction projects and possesses extensive knowledge in the field. My wife, being meticulous and OCD, wanted perfection in the job. Cesar meticulously coordinated with us on every aspect of the project, providing valuable advice on what could and couldn't be done. He is truly an artist, and we couldn't thank him and Ginato enough. The straightforward truth is that Colorworks fulfilled their promise! We love spending time outside in this beautiful state of Arizona, but when we moved into our house the backyard did not create a feeling of calm. I called several "landscape designers" and were told "We are too busy", "We only do projects with a $50,000 minimum" or they were a no show to an appointment or never called back. Mike, Jeff, Garrette and Walter and their crew were professional, quick, accommodating and just an awesome bunch to work with. They delivered a service that has earned me compliments from neighbors throughout our community. We have a small backyard and the previous owner built a huge bbq island smack in the middle of the yard. We had Colorworks come and look at our yard and Karen recommended that we remove the island and fill most of the yard with artificial grass. Colorworks also built a smaller bbq island to the side for us and put a beautiful stone facade on a pool wall. The end result? Way more useable space that is also aesthetically appealing. Before, the patio was filled with brown hardscape and the huge grill cut off one part of the backyard and our family never spent time in the yard. We hired colorworks to redesign our backyard. The entire team was exceptional from start to finish. Karen (our project manager) was hands on through the entire process. We really wanted travertine, but also wanted to stay within our budget. Karen helped us do just that by helping us find some discounted travertine and by making some good trade off recommendations to get the most bang for our buck. Cesar (the primary contractor) performing the work was outstanding at bringing our vision to life. I am a perfectionist and can therefore be hard to please sometimes, but Cesar's work was flawless. Communication from Karen, Cesar, and Jeff throughout the entire project was excellent. They were also timely in beginning and completing the project and were great about cleaning up after themselves throughout the project (there was lots of old material to haul away after the initial demo especially). There are no words to express how happy I am with Colorworks Landscaping. Karen met with us to help us with a backyard project and an amazing relationship started from that meeting. We ended up completely redoing our back yard. We had old hardscape pulled out, new travertine, turf, and additional hardscape installed, a gas fireplace and gas BBQ and outdoor kitchen with a pergola installed, trees removed, trees planted, new plants and bushes planted, outdoor lighting and drip systems installed, and more. Colorworks saved our Lawn to Garden project, transforming a water-thirsty lawn and overgrown beds in the front and side yard to a drought-tolerant work of art! We can't say enough about the Colorwork team's professionalism, work ethic, integrity and clear and timely communication and customer support. From the owner, Jon, and estimator Armando, to on-the-job supervisors Luis and Jake, and hard-working demo/install workers Victor and Sergio, everyone we dealt with exceeded our expectations. We had interviewed a dozen contractors before meeting the Colorworks team, and had almost given up hope of finding landscapers able to meet our timeline, provide a detailed bid in a timely fashion, respond promptly to emails/texts, and follow the landscape design to it's letter. We are so happy we did not 'settle' for a company we did not feel was right for the job, and that Colorworks was able to work our project into their busy schedule! Colorworks meet the requirements of our city's Smart Irrigation Program and provided a detailed list of our irrigation installation, selected only the highest quality plants from the nursery, used top-quality decompsed granite and stabilizer, used great care to be sure plants were placed accurately and to maximize successful future plant health. Their supervisors worked with us on the daily schedule, and the team arrived promptly each morning at 7am and worked almost without stopping, except for lunch and supplies, each day. On our end, we had done quite a bit of research prior to this project. One of the most helpful tips from neighbors was to start with a great design and then a licensed contractor with a proven track record who could dedicate a team to see the project thru from start to finish. Andy DeYoung, the landscape designer we used, was also highly respected by Colorworks, and they were faithful to his vision. We used the company to landscape our yard in 2020 which was a difficult time. We had a couple of issues with some pavers sinking in our driveway and odor in our Astro turf. We had Colorworks do a full remodel of our front and back yard, and they did a great job on both jobs. For me a huge selling point was the fact that they don't stop a job until it's finished. I've had terrible experiences with contractors where they start and then disappear for days at a time. This was not that experience! Michael Price on the phone. He is seriously the world's most lovely human being and is so passionate about helping people design the space of their dreams. Colorworks recently did some work in both our front and back yards, and we are thrilled with the results! Everyone was great to work with and they were always very easy to get a hold of for any questions we had.
