Girls at the patio bar were pleasant and polite. I just went in to grab a gift card and they totally offered me a sip of their new feature red wine and encouraged me to check out their new seasonal menu! The manager quickly and politely served me and provided me with the gift card and holder. All staff walked by and greeted me and asked if I have been served yet. It made me feel great and valued as a customer while I wait for the gift card! My boss just happens to love the Garlic Chicken Ceasar salad here... The place was empty when we showed up for lunch. It is nicely decorated and clean. The food was okay, but I found it to be expensive compared to other restaurants with the same quality. I had the Chicken Tacos. There were 2 tacos on the plate for $15. Sides were extra. They were good but had very little meat in them. My co-workers seemed to enjoy their food. Our server was gracious but did not come across as genuine. We had to wait quite a while to get our bill. Came in here a couple times over the holidays this year, for a few drinks. We came into the lounge which is quite nice, it has been a really long time since I've been here, and I enjoyed it. I really like the booths and my hubby loved the fact that there was all these TV's so he could watch sports. The waitresses are all attentive and cute. I'm in between 3-4 stars really. There happy hour(3-6pm; 9-close) is awesome, Love the menu- great prices, food, drinks. Left very happy even wrote into earls about our server (I forget her name but she was so awesome, I told a couple managers as well) this visit was sometime after Jan 2018 still winter months. Now the brunch is were they lose points. 1st visit Fathers day- Love the prices (they have brunch happy hour open(11am)-12pm) now the food. I ordered the 2egg breakfast and the green juice and my husband got a burger lol and iced coffee with baileys. Server brought out my water and there was a hair attached to the condensation on the outside of the glass, I just pulled it off but I know a lot of people who would gag at that, as long as its not in my drink but still attention to detail. My eggs were cold and they ran out of ketchup (even thoughugh its across from a Costco) Runner offered hot sauce but didn't bring it back until I was basically finished. Potatoes were good, love that it comes with half an avocado. Juice is really sweet but really green, I enjoyed it. Husband Enjoyed his meal, luckily he got the garlic fries so didn't need ketchup and he really like the coffee and bailey (especially happy hour price $5, not happy hour $12) We chalked this up to being really busy on fathers day and said we'd be back. I think a week or two later we go for brunch. I get the country breakfast and green juice, he gets the eggs benny and iced coffee and bailey. His water has a strawberry or something (really small and floaty in it) he already drank some too, and this time his coffee creamer seemed to have flaked too, you could see white chunks in it but he said it tasted good so we didn't worry. My eggs weren't cold this time and they had ketchup, but both of our potatoes were undercooked, we didn't finish eating them. He also didn't like the hollandaise very much. Our server did bring us these donut things that were delicious and we appreciated that. Overall they need some work on the brunch. If it wasn't happy hour prices we wouldn't come back. The service was friendly for the most part. Our waitress seemed a little ditzy but overall was effective. My Chicken Alfredo was good. There wasn't much chicken on it, but I was actually okay with that because the noodles and sauce were so good. Sadly, my date was not as fortunate. He ordered a chicken ceasar salad. He orders it here regularly. But the chicken in his salad had a slimy skin on it that he peeled off of each piece of chicken. Now, the waitress did stop by and check on us but it was too early in the process for us to realize what a pain it was going to be so we told her everything was fine. At the end of the meal, I pointed it out to her and asked her just to let the cooks know. He had eaten 3/4s of it, so I didn't expect anything - I just wanted them to be aware of it. Not bad! A lovely interior, with moderate prices, and a nicely varied menu. I had the steak frites and loved it. I was curious to try the curry or one of the pasta dishes. If I had spent more time in Edmonton, I'd have liked to check out their bar and other menu items. Overall, I enjoyed it, and would eat at another Earl's location. Your typical pub food. I came here on a business trip with my coworkers. Ordered their 8oz Cajun steak. It was very mediocre nothing special, extremely salty. Customer service was good though. We came back the next day for dinner again, hopeing to try something else because everything around us was fastfood. My husband and it decided to have a meal out so we went to Earl's for an early dinner. Although the restaurant had only about 4 tables seated the hostess had to take a few minutes in order to find a table for us. We could have thrown a ball blindfolded and hit an empty table. We waited for an uncomfortable about of time before the manager came to ask us if we had been served. NO! He took our drinks order. Several more uncomfortable minutes passed before we decided to leave. Just at that moment a waiter came to ask us if we had been served. We told him we were still waiting for our drinks and that this was unacceptable and we were leaving. Shameful service for a restaurant that was nearly empty. read more

The dining room is lovely and modern, mildly lit with fairy light-esque fixtures and soft hanging lights. The kitchen is open to the diner's view, separated off by a glass wall. An open kitchen concept is a nice touch for any restaurant and it's a fairly bold move, considering how the kitchen back line can be a place for heated discussions between servers, chefs, and expos. Earls managed this well, however, and it was nice to see both the servers and the chefs on display, since customers rarely get a glimpse of the back-of-house. We ordered the Prawn Dynamite Rolls to start: maki made from panko breaded prawns, mango, avocado, cucumber, togarashi mayonnaise, maple soy reduction and sriracha mayonnaise, and toasted black sesame seeds. Earls is known for its Prawn Dynamite Rolls - apparently one of the best-selling appetizers on the menu - and it's easy to see why. They're delicious. The sauce reminds me of Mikado's Dragon Sauce (served with the Dragon Eye Rolls), and Earls' sushi fillings are fresh and tasty (the mango is a nice touch). They're perfect to share, as well, giving you a flavourful mouthful without being too filling. Our entrées included the Cajun Blackened Chicken and the Peppercorn 9oz Certified Angus Beef Top Sirloin. The Cajun Blackened Chicken included a chicken breast cooked in blackening spices and garlic butter, and served with warm potato salad and coleslaw. The chicken, while slightly on the too-salty side, was moist and flavourful, and really exuded that smoky Cajun flavour. The potato salad was one of the best I've ever tasted - warm and rich - and the coleslaw was extremely tasty, even though the mayonnaise was a bit on the heavy side. The Peppercorn Sirloin was cooked to an impeccable medium rare and was cooked with spicy peppercorns, fresh herbs, and demi-glace, and served with Yukon Gold garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus (the seasonal vegetable). While the peppercorn demi-glace was a bit too thick for my liking (resembling more of a North American-style gravy than a rich, French brown sauce), it complemented the steak nicely and went extremely well with the garlic mashed potatoes. I always love a bit of asparagus, and prefer them on the side of a nice steak, so the vegetables were an excellent pairing choice. Top off an excellent meal with a couple of delicious gin caesars (served with a dill pickle and a beef jerky stick), and you've got yourself a very favourable dining experience. One minor negative about our visit was that the service began quite slow, but picked up as soon as we'd received our appetizer. I think the main reason behind that was because two servers weren't sure if we were their table, which explains why our drink order was taken by a different girl than our food order and the rest of the service. This wasn't a problem, though - once the ball got rolling, the service was excellent and attentive for the rest of our meal. Earls has definitely upped its game in the last several years and deserves to be recognized as in the same category as restaurants such as Joey's and Moxie's. Prices range from $15-25 per person, which is standard for a mid-range casual fine dining restaurant. If you're like me and boycotted Earls back in the early 2000s, I'd recommend giving it a retry - you might just be impressed. read more

Update: Myself and my significant other, and her two daughters, returned to Earl's after speaking with the manager about how the retsaurant fell short of what I expected. This time, not only did they meet the expectations, but our server went above and beyond of what was expected of his job. Right off the start, our server knew, who we were and went right into making sure we were well taken care of. As a sever not only did he suggest the specials but went even further to explain his personal recommendations on everything we ordered. We asked for Caesar's and immediately suggested the Bacon Caesar ...... I asked for the Kung Pow and when I explained that I didnt want the kitchen to go cheap on the chicken - he suggested a DOUBLE order of chicken breast. When the girlfriend asked for Better Bacon Cheddar burger, he recommended adding avocado and mushrooms ..... Everything was a smash hit, even the endless drinks for the girls! Though I apologize that I cant remember the servers name, he made our visit very personal by giving the woman blankets, beacuse of the cooler temps in the restaurant. Nobody at front of house when I left but worker came in still with her book bag, jeans and jacket on greeting people. Woman came in looking to purchase $200+ gift card and nobody was there to help her except jeans and backpack girl. So unprofessional. In the lounge the staff were very polite but slow. I hosted my boyfriend's birthday dinner here, it went perfectly smooth. They were even great enough to keep the ice cream cake I brought in the back and brought out all the serving utensils required. To be honest my hubby and I only stumbled upon Earls through doing a mystery shop at the one in St.Albert which was good for us, because we are new to Alberta and only been here since 2011. We both had this preconceived idea that it would be too expensive to eat there, but once we got there and saw the prices it was awesome. After our initial first time as mystery shopper's, we went home to look one up in the area of where we live. So now we go to the one on the north side on 50th street. We have come to know one sweet guy Mattie as our waiter. We always ask for him, because he knows our order and how many times to refill us up. He doesn't ignore our daughter like other places do when we're out to eat. Instead of him being just another waiter he is like family. He updates us on life etc. All the other staff are very nice and helpful too. If by chance anyone goes there after having read this review might I suggest you order the Blackened Cajun Chicken it is to die for and the spinach dip as the appetizer and for your dessert the hot chocolate toffee. I have been a regular customer at this location since it opened. Afternoon service is usually great, evening service is mixed, but more often than not, the evening hostesses and management are absolutely pathetic. Tonight I arrived with my friend and waited at the front hostess desk on the patio (it is the first hostess desk the customer arrives at). The two female hostesses standing there were more interested in talking amongst themselves, and completely ignored our existence while they engaged in gossip about other staff and customers. Other customers started waiting behind us were equally ignored. They both took pains to not even LOOK our way while we stood there, only two feet apart, and even turned their backs on us while they gossiped and giggled as we waited for some acknowledgement. Once they did finally get around to acknowledging our presence, we told them we wanted to eat inside. They rudely "waved us away" and told us to go to the SECOND hostess desk located INSIDE the restaurant. We got the distinct impression we were bothering them by forcing them to deal with customers. Once inside, the indoor hostess sauntered over to the desk after several minutes and unenthusiastically acknowledged us as we expressly and carefully asked for "A table for TWO in the DINING area please." This hostess seemed to be preoccupied with completely different things, and asked us blankly "For how many?" We repeated: "two". "And do you want to eat in the dining room or in the lounge?". Annoyed that she clearly wasn't even listening to our words, we repeated once again "In the dining room". She stopped suddenly and stared blankly at us for a minute without saying anything, as if she had just remembered something else that needed attending to more urgently. Then she turned around and engaged in a new conversation with a server who had just come up to the hostess desk while we stood there, uncertain if we had suddenly become invisible again. After about a minute in conversation with the server about nothing in particular, she turned back to us and said "And would you like to eat in the lounge or the dining room?" I was appalled ... her mind was clearly anywhere else but work, and we were all but completely irrelevant to her. I said, "I repeat, for the SECOND time, there are TWO of us and we would like to eat in the DINING room." She then took my name, and finally told us "There will be a 15 to 20 minute wait for a table". I asked her if it would not have been more appropriate to inform us BEFORE she wrote down my name that there would be a wait. She shrugged and replied "Do you still want the table or not?" We agreed to wait. About only THREE minutes later, another hostess appeared from out of nowhere (bless her) and immediately seated us in the dining room, where we observed only six tables had customers. I generally like Earls (though I'm not crazy about this location). I generally like the servers here, but the hostesses are quite often completely useless with huge egos and awful, arrogant attitudes. I would much rather be welcomed by somebody that was not so full of themselves and preening instead of hostessing. I do NOT consider it a magnanimous favour by staff to be seated at a restaurant as if the hostesses are going out of their way just to associate with customers who are merely ordinary mortals like myself. Our server was nice and tried hard to cope with a short-staffed dining room. The evening manager, as always, walked around the restaurant like the Queen of Sheba surveying her fiefdom. Otherwise, she was COMPLETELY detached from the customers and chaos around her, ignoring our request via the server that she come over and speak with us about her hostesses. What more can I say? A good, otherwise well-managed restaurant during the day becomes a disaster in the evening, totally lacking in customer service, direction and leadership. The hostess and management staff are there to pose, preen and party with each other while customers are ignored, leaving all that's left of customer service up to the poor, overworked servers. Last night my husband went to Earls. We have not been there in a long time. Our waiter was great -- no problems there. The food however, made me wonder. I choose a caesar salad and clam chowder which comes with there special bread. Personally I do not like the spices in it so asked if they could just give me a plain bread. Nope, they don't have any in the place -- strange. The salad had way too much dressing on it and it was not the creamy one that I had expected. Flavor was good, so it was ok. Now the clam chowder was another story -- it was GREAT!!! The whole menu was nothing like what I really expected and the "old" Earls definitely had a better one. The lounge and the dining room are separated -- if you call a part wall separated. The noise from the bar was so loud that you might as well sit there because it will not be quieter in the dining room. Will I go back? Maybe, but it wouldn't be my first or second choice. read more

This is my go to for the best burgers in town. They're juicy, homemade and perfect. Service is usually great but the occasional staff member isn't happy. Nice and clean restaurant. When there's a mistake with an order, management is prompt to correct it. You can always expect consistency here. read more

When they took back the statement about Alberta beef they should have changed all the menus and collateral to state it but now two weeks later , nothing changed. Came here with a group of 12 for a Christmas party mid December. Servers were very attentive and the food was enjoyed by all. On two previous visits of other locations, I had not enjoyed Earls, but the cheese burger I had was more than acceptable. The fries however should be replaced with something better. they were horrible, and they were cooked as they should be, they were not messed up in any way, just bad. read more

I returned the calamari as it was disgusting- dry, mint was looked like it was old and shriveled, tomatoes and celery looked old and the calamari did not taste like calamari. My wife and I went to Earls this evening. As usual, the place was packed and we had to wait for a table. Several minutes later we were seated, and after our waitress showed up, we ordered from the drink specials. Several minutes later our waitress informed us one of the drinks we ordered was not on special anymore. After this, we checked and called the waitress over to point out the menu said that drink is on special. We were then told we would get the special price for that drink despite the menu was not current with their specials. Altogether not cool. It took rather long to get our drinks, and when we did, we ordered our meals. The meals took a really l-o-n-g time to arrive. Our waitress and the manager on duty both apologized for the wait time for our food. As a customer, I don't care about their problems. When our meals did arrive, I realized I had no cutlery and had to wait for the waitress to provide me with a fork and spoon.Also not cool. The food was tasty, but the long wait time and menu snafu were a drag and took the fun out of dining out that day. We won't be going back to Earls for anytime soon. read more
