This little deli is sheer, sunny awesomeness, right down to the kitschy, neon signs and the little green decorative awning. The staff is lovely, cheerful, flirtatious, sarcastic, gregarious and awesome. They often have Great Deals (so Great that it needs to be capitalized) on chocolates (Ie: 99cents for chocolate Altoids- I always get 3 at a time.) and I occasionally poke my head in hopefully to see if they're selling anything new in cacao. The sandwiches are yummy and jam-packed, and good fun to eat with a pickle and deviled egg on the side. The completely burnt coffee is pretty terrible, and the fruits always look bruised, but hey! This is the only liquor store within close walking vicinity on the UCB campus. I don't think a lot of people are here to stock up on apples and oranges. Still, who cares? The proprietors & staff of E-Z Deli are the nicest around, and the business deserves to be frequented. I have walked by this place many times but I finally went in today. I have seriously been missing out. This place has the best lamb sandwiches. Like Seven Palms, it is a corner store / deli but this place seems to be more like a deli first and a corner store second. Frequently walking past this store in my day-to-day life, I always thought it was just another of the slightly sketch and scary small grocery stores that populate the city of Berkeley. Not true! Having recently earned some debit dollars on my Cal 1 Card, I hesitantly walked in ~5:30pm on a Wed, ordered their hot roasted turkey sandwich, and interacted with multiple warm and friendly workers. They have pre-portioned trays of turkey meat behind the counter, which is assembled with the regular fixings to make one's desired sandwich. One of their norm additions is salt and pepper, which I liked but speak up if you want your order customized in any way. Everyone sporting the E-Z Stop Deli t-shirts seemed gracious and smiley; the cashier who I gathered was the owner or at least manager of the place asked we how my day at school went, which made me feel cheerful on a random mid-week afternoon. They have a Cal student discount of $1 off with ID that ends I think mid-May--can't complain about a very filling dinner for ~$5, so come in quick to satisfy your hearty sandwich craving. read more

I give them credit for saving my ass a number of times as the last place open at night in the immediate downtown area that sells beer. A great place for inexpensive sandwiches and snacks. Try to avoid the lunch hour, as this place loads down with the kids from Berkeley High. They have deviled eggs and rice krispy treats, as well as a great array of sandwiches, beverages and chips. The staff are nice guys. read more

When I'm on a budget and in berkeley lets go to E-z. I work in berkeley and it can be easy to spend $10.00 or more. E-Z deli has a variety of fresh ingredients to make a sandwich, your own type of sandwich and they are so generous with the amounts. Subway can't beat this place, and the staff is very nice and personal. I come here at least once a week to get there sandwiches.When you pass by this establishment, you wouldn't have guess its a deli, from the outside it looks like a liquor store. I give it four stars, because there regular cooked food doesn't look as fresh which is the spaghetti, tuna salads, and other dishes they have on display upfront by the potato chips stand.This is the place for a quick bite to eat. read more

I used to come here alot about a year ago, for the roasted turkey sandwich specifically. They used to make one of the most juicy and succulent hot roasted turkey sandwiches I've ever had in my life, and the lady who used to work here was always courteous and provided excellent customer service. I loved this place! But today I went and ordered one and the guy who made it, this old white haired heavy set dude provided the opposite experience. This was early this morning, around 9:30ish. His customer service was terrible, made it seem like he had very little interest in making it a good sandwich, and the "roast turkey" is no longer really roasted turkey. The guy this morning used some of the driest heated up frozen patty tasting meat I've ever had. It was disgusting! The cold and dry without enough condiment, the guy didn't even communicate toppings at all, he just started throwing stuff on there like it was an inconvenience to him to even make the sandwich. At the end I noticed how dry everything was, and I asked for a bit more mayo on the sandwich and this guy walked off. Thankfully the cashier was awesome and she helped me out with professional customer service. She's the only positive I had throughout the entire experience. A disgusting sandwich, it's not even roast turkey anymore! I felt cheated to be honest given what I was expecting and remembered from a year prior. This nasty guy didn't even wear gloves or wash his hands. I hope this guy wasn't the owner, because if he is they need to have a health inspection soon. This place used to be one of my favorites, but I won't be returning anytime soon. Calling that roast turkey should be a crime, that's called false advertising in my book. Gave me some processed super dry patty that was sliced up instead of the real turkey chunks of meat they used to use.. disgusting and dry is how I would describe the entire experience. I liked the roasted turkey it was super moist. It was so good I eat my whole sandwich when I usually only eat half . The people inside were helpful and friendly. Last Sunday, I ordered three sandwiches and one pasta salad. While the pasta salad was decent our sandwiches had dry and flavorless bread, cheap deli meat, and bland cheese. Amazing! Having been a student of UCB for 3 years I'd never had the chance to try this place because I lived way down southside and i didn't want to take the bus for a sandwich. HOW I WISH I HAD... I recently moved to university ave, so walking by EZ stop deli had become a daily deal for me. I decided to give it a go. The sandiwch was cheap, tasty and filling. By far one of the freshest tasting sandwich i've had in my life. Sure, i've had gourmet sandwiches that cost 20 bucks. But ez stop deli, does it for no more then 6 a sandwich. I really hate giving this place a low rating, especially since I haven't tried many things there, but one thing made me never want to go back again. I'll start with the good and end with what made me want to rate this place in the first place. GOOD: Low prices on individually-wrapped snacks like twinkies BAD: My boyfriend asked for a second free sample of their ice cream, but the guy who was working at that time asked my boyfriend for his spoon back. I really hope that's the only disgusting thing that place does. Actually, I hope that that was just one freak thing and that guy realized what he was doing after that incident. Great breakfast sandwiches, used to call them in on my way to work, moved to SF and I miss them now.

I've been here almost a dozen times and I've been satisfied with their sandwiches every time. Their sandwiches are quite large and are conveniently cut in half for easy consumption. I usually get their roast beef sandwich which comes with lettuce, tomatoes, mustard, mayonnaise, salt and pepper. Cheese is available for an additional fifty cents. All in all, the sandwiches are tasty and inexpensive (under $5). What's not to love? Also, there's a frequent buyer rewards card. If you buy nine sandwiches, you will get one for free. read more

The drinks are extremely overpriced, sometimes 100% mark-up. They wait until you are at the register before giving you the price, there are no pricetags. They don't scan the drinks either, they just give you a price on appearance. So what you pay may differ depending on what the cashier thinks it should be/can get out of you. I work in the area, I've eaten lunch at EZ Stop off and on for the last 9 years, and I've never been disappointed. Huge sandwiches, friendly staff (Magda is the best, and we love Jean!) and lots of options for chips, snacks, sides and beer (for those long Friday lunches). My go-to favorite is the roasted turkey sandwich (specifically the turkey, bacon, avocado). They roast a turkey every day, it's always delicious and fresh. Just make sure to go early enough so the B. Having come here from New York, this IS about as close as you'll get to a New York style deli/bodega, at least in terms of the set-up/selection (basic groceries, beer/cheap wine, deli counter). Just wanted to say that I ve been comin to ez stop deli for years while ive lived in Berkeley, and they are consistently running a very nice place, very good relationship with the people in the neighborhood and all their customers. The food there is very fresh and the store is well kept. I also wanted to say that m ama jeah is one of the nicest people you could hope to.meet and always has gone above and beyond the call of duty to be kind to all the patrons including all the homeless folks. I felt harassed by the male server at this place tonight. When i approached the counter i was greeted by a "konnichiwa" and when i didn't respond, he repeatedly said "konnichiwa" "no japanese?" I politely told him no. I put my things on the counter, and handed him my debit card. At the time i was holding a can of coke which i had previously gotten from another place, and he asked, pointing at the can, if i had gotten it from this store- which was a completely reasonable question, i thought. But when i told him no, he asked "are you sure?" and told me to put my social security number into the number pad. When i brushed off what i took as a joke with a light laugh, he commented to the guy behind me in the line as if i wasn't there, saying "i made her all nervous now", and added, "she wouldn't know if i took a thousand dollars from her card". He then went on to ask me if i had a boyfriend, to which i reluctantly responded yes, and he said to the same guy behind me, "she's lying". At that point i couldn't fully make sense of what was going on so i just continued to brush it off with a light laugh, and he kept saying "look she's smiling. Now i know she's lying. I made her even more nervous". As i was leaving the store he yelled out "say hi to your boyfriend for me", and i could hear him laugh with the other guys in the store. I'm still not completely sure what to make of what i experienced tonight, but i definitely felt upset and uncomfortable as i was walking away from the store, enough for me to never want to return to that place. read more
