After sending specs and a pic of the door, requesting a spring replacement, an appointment was made and I put other offers on hold. When tech arrived he said they didn't work on these old doors anymore and just replace them. Waste of my time and his. Update: The type of door (tilt-up) and the requested service (spring repair/replacement) were in the original request for quotes. Two other firms responded saying that they didn't work on those doors/didn't have parts to fix them. You didn't, so I assumed you were coming to estimate the cost of repair to a tilt-up door. I used the Yelp quote request feature that automatically sent my request to multiple garage door companies, one of them was E.S Garage Doors Inc. Many years ago, when our garage door got a broken spring, I used a contractor who was highly recommended by my neighbors, but I felt being taken advantages as the bill was ridiculously high. Normally garage door repair is a very time sensitive project, so it's hard to take time to negotiate or select a good contractor. For that reason, I used Yelp request feature to get a quote upfront from different contractors. E.S Garage Doors responded quickly and gave me a formula how they calculated their price so that I could have an idea how much it would be. The price they provided seemed reasonable, so I decided to go forward. Within an hour, Daniel of Advanced Garage Door showed up at our door. I am still not sure how E.S. and Advanced are connected, but it looks like other reviewers also mentioned that they had used Advanced or AGD on the page of E.S. Garage Doors, so I guess maybe they are in the same group. As soon as Daniel arrived, he checked the garage door springs and gave me a final price. Upon my approval, Daniel started to work. He was very polite and careful. We still had our car in the garage at that time, and he was very careful when he worked close to our car to make sure that he wouldn't cause any damage on it. It took him near an hour to complete the job. Daniel also found other non-urgent issues on my garage door and the opener. He explained the potential issues and recommended some repairs, but he didn't push me to do right away as he also admitted those issues were not urgent. I will keep those issues in mind to include in my future projects. For the pricing, Daniel was willing to work with me to come up with a good price. The craftsmanship and the materials all came with warranties, so if I later have any issues, I could just call them to fix it for me. Our spring broke on a late Sunday afternoon. I appreciate how fast this company reached out to help. Within minutes, they were offering to give a free consult. There's some touches I didnt believe...such as they happened to have a truck in my city, just 10 minutes away. Felt like unnecessary high pressure . Was also contacted by other companies so I had a few chats going, but went with them. 30 min later, Zach arrived. He was nice, said it could take a while to fix bc we had our garage/springs painted. E.s (apparently Advanced Garage Doors) replace my 2x garage door torsion springs after one of them broke. Zach was great and answered all of my questions with grace and patience. To be aware of: there are 3 levels of springs w/different duty cycle / durability ratings and, as a result, different warranties. I went for the lowest price, which was rated for 25,000 cycles with a warranty of 1 year parts and 90 days labor. Given the warranty, I'm not sure I trust the 25,000 cycle rating -- which is ~ 16 years udner a 2x per day opening/closing situation -- but I also expect the current 5-star avg. rating for this company speaks to the quality of springs they use. Time will tell, and I was OK with the gamble. The process: I chatted w/David from E.s via Yelp chat, had a free onsite consultation with Zach, and ended up having the work done during the consultation. Great service - a technician came out within an hour of us requesting a quote. The quote he provided was reasonable; he correctly identified the issues with our door right away; and he ended up being able to fix the door on the spot because he had all of the materials in his truck. He didn't try to upsell us on anything and actually advised us to install the safety cable ourselves because it's pretty cheap to order on Amazon and DIY.
