This is the second house we've had renovated by Gary. This house was outdated and unattractive but…read morewe knew it could be special. We are always happy with Gary's work. He is a competent professional and trusted contractor with a solid team of subcontractors who have been doing this work for decades. With this renovation, we brought our 1912 Craftsman bungalow down to the studs. This was a full-gut renovation that involved replacing all mechanicals, drywall, new bathrooms, new kitchen and doing a primary bath addition. With Gary's construction expertise, we were able to restore the home while maintaining its original charm and bring our design to life. Some of Gary's many contributions included framing a new tray/drop ceiling, installing custom window and door casings to match the originals. He also rebuilt the front porch railings and reinforced the porch ceiling so it would accommodate a porch swing. He built our backyard studio shed in just a couple days and it's adorable. While nearly everything is new, you can't tell. And that is a compliment to the quality of craftsmanship. Gary doesn't cut corners and it shows. It is very important that you trust your contractor and that they have integrity and do what they say they are going to do. Experience is also very important. Gary has all of this. Incompetent and careless. They did work repairing our kitchen a few years ago after mold. What they…read moresaid would be a 2 week job turned into probably 5 months. Writing this now because I just saw an outlet underneath the sink that's not at all mounted to the wall and was reminded of how ridiculous this whole ordeal was. They'd come maybe 2 times a week, maybe less, sit in the driveway and wait for each other for a while, and they'd always forget what they were supposed to do. Then they'd say "ah ya we remember now, gotta go to Home Depot" and take another 1-2 hours. The pace of work was incredibly slow. When they were redoing our kitchen, we came home and saw that the main handyman had bought cabinets for the sink that opened straight into the fridge and stove, so you could barely open them. It was on a corner, so clearly a corner / lazy Susan cabinet was needed. Delayed the job by however many days. They cracked the sink they put in, and there's carvings in the countertops from where they messed up with sloppy cutting. When they installed the AC window units, they stained the window panes, sink, and the outside of the house with the insulation foam and didn't attempt to clean it until I asked. They didn't get much up; still stained. They didn't put calking around the countertop they put in behind the sink. There were a bunch of other times where similar things happened that I had to ask them to redo it or do a part of the job they'd missed.

Mike was able to get the renderings to me very quickly and made adjustments whenever we wanted to change something. Seeing the details of the renderings really brought what we were envisioning to life and helped with the design process. Fast forward to beginning of demo/construction, Mike's employees were impressively fast and efficient at their jobs, but what really impressed me was how clean they kept our property after each day of work. And that stated true throughout the entire process of our 7 month renovation. During construction, if there were any last minute changes, Mike would always try to cater to our needs whenever possible. Even if subcontractors made mistakes with anything, Mike would make sure it is fixed and perfect right away. Keep in mind, you can't rely on Mike for everything (as much as you might want to). You really do have to do your research (in terms of design, finishing materials, sourcing those materials, and getting them delivered on time) and know exactly what you want and how you want it, that way, Mike can plan and put into action what needs to be done. After this entire process, we are extremely happy we got this project completed with MDM. What really sets them apart is the quality of work, dependability, and the great people that work for MDM. Shoutout to Mario! They really respected our home and were very considerate of us during construction. Completed Work: The garage painting and various maintenance tasks were performed with good quality and attention to detail. Property Damage: During the relocation of garage items, my refrigerator was moved. It ceased functioning immediately following the move. A certified technician inspected the unit and provided a written assessment stating the failure was due to damage sustained during transportation. IT IS POSSIBLE that it could have been pure coincidence. I did not file a claim or state I wanted money for the fridge. Financials: Zilvanis requested an interim payment of $150 for labor already performed. I paid this amount, even though the contract designated the final $300 to be paid only after a successful final walkthrough.   Project Termination: When I shared the technician's findings regarding the refrigerator, the contractor denied responsibility and immediately cancelled all remaining work. Incomplete Scope: Due to the abrupt cancellation, the installation of door weather stripping was never completed. The contractor remains in possession of the delivered part.

We loved the work and this company so much that we decided to let them remodel our pool and backyard. Our pool was in horrible shape, they redid the plaster, installed mini pebbles and new pavers. Our backyard looks stunning. Unlike the typical contractor- client relationship the other people on the job were very responsive to my questions.Half the time clients struggled to get what they want or to interject their contribution to the project, Ben and his team listened. We were able to come up with a good working plan. Even if it didn't get done right away. The response was timely and correct. The next time we dealt with the people, construction was right after the Eaton fire. Thankfully, our house suffered only minor damages. And did not destroy altogether, like many other houses in my neighborhood. Ben, called me right away to check up on us. Which was nice, but we already told them that we are working with the contractor that the insurance company assigned to us and with an independent public adjuster. Ben, said, if this not going to work out, call me back. 6 months later after nothing got done I indeed called Ben. Ben showed up the next day with his insurance specialist, jordan, and they both came up with the plan. The repairs and the fire restoration starts.The very next day and jordan was able to negotiate the payout amount on our behalf .With the insurance company. They remodeled pretty much our entire house, the kitchen.The bathroom, the flooring, the painting insulation, new water heater. In consultation with ben and jordan, we planned to introduce state of the art appliances and changes in our home.It was good to do this because we have greater energy efficiency. We have less heat loss. And literally everything works the way it should. So this project takes us into, and i'm not going to say the next century, but takes us into the next decade. And we expect to have very good life span on all of these materials. Because they are high-grade. I would recommend we the people as a construction consultant, and ally in the project. Simply because the communication is outstanding. And we ended up getting what we wanted.
