My husband was looking for a pair of dress pants for a cocktail party next month. I was dreading this because this store had a reputation for pricing their clothing on the high side. I was pleased to see that their prices had come down and the selection had gone up. We were cheerfully greeted my Matthew when we came in and he made some suggestions and really knew his stuff. It was so refreshing to be in such a body positive environment. He had the exact size we needed with no alterations needed. The clearance section had some amazing options in there. I don't think there is anything worse then racing the manager to the door to shop! I'm well aware of the operating hours of 10-7, what I wasn't aware of is operating hours 10-6:53. What's even worse is the female arguing through the door with another buying client as he begged and explained the travel expenses and time it took to get there why she closed the building early. I have never shopped at DXL but I want to say congrats on your success as a business, doing so well you have the leisure to turn business away! Raul was awesome. I felt so bad, I had to exchange 7 items today and get one size lower for all of them, and he was very patient (it was an online order). Shopped here a few times and, being 6'8", I'm grateful to have a store that's local that caters to my sizing. The selection online is even better. It's a bit pricier than your average store, but that's understandable given that it's catering to a niche market. I usually just shop the clearance and online specials. The store in Lake Elsinore is worth a visit, too. read more

About a week ago ... it was a long day. Worked my 8 hours then had to shop for new clothes. Went to another place that was closer to my job. Horrible experience. Just didn't seem like they was there to help out the customers. Just to grab a commission check. Everything was fast and it seemed like everything was a bother. After about an hour, I had enough and left. Went over to DXL and as soon as I walked in, even tho they was busy, I was greeted by Phil. And let me tell you, the man was on point! Everything you needed in a salesman, he got it. I hate trying on and picking out clothes. I explained that to him. And that I just got a promotion, then he took care of EVERYTHING! Sized me up. Ran around the store and picked out a few outfits all the way from the shoes and socks to the belt and ties. Had me looking sharp! I bought everything. Like I said , I hate shopping and trying on clothes but stood 2 hours in there and it was like I had a personal assistant. I just completed a DXL shopping session and was helped by Phil. Through and through a traditional gentleman. Very helpful, fashion forward and practical. Prices are higher than average at this clothier, but if you know how hard it is to get Big & Tall clothes in San Diego, you will quickly realize you are in the finest B&T clothing store anywhere near. I have been shopping here since it opened and have had great experience with managers Stephanie and Todd. Way better management than other stores and if you want to dress nice, this is your best choice of stores. Very disappointed with the service I just received. Been shopping with this company for years, unfortunately I can't really shop anywhere else because I'm a big guy. I've had three shirts in a row that shrunk more than 2 inches and were completely unwearable after 2 washes. The shirts run $70 to $90 each for a t-shirt and when I went to return them they wouldn't allow it. Don't have many choices where I'm going to shop but I certainly won't be giving my business back to this location. This location used to have a female manager that was absolutely wonderful to work with but I noticed she wasn't there so possibly the rules have changed or the current management just doesn't understand the value of long-term customers. read more

Also known as DXL. A shopping experience catered to the "Big & Tall" man. This store recently opened up a little over a month ago at the Westfield Mission Valley Mall where the former USPS office was at. Its literally right across from the Lens Crafters and Onami Seafood Buffet in the mall. Better yet, park at the Macy's Home Parking Lot near the underground parking for better access to the store. I went shopping here with my husband who happens to be big as he is tall, though he figures into the smaller side of "Big" (XL-1X). Anyhow, this store is a one stop shop which I'm sure is desperately needed for the Men in that category. Think Department Store. It has DXL's own store brand version and name brand version of jeans, shirts, shorts, etc. for the Casual, Traditional, and the Sports enthusiast.. There is also a section for Business and Formal wear with their own in house tailor. There is free, expedited shipping directly to the store on items that are not in stock. There is also a free, rewards club that is point system based which I know will come in handy in the near future. My husband was like a kid in a candy store. In the past, we've just been accustomed to ordering online or shopping at the "Big & Tall" section at JcPenney's which is typically a small section in a random corner somewhere. This store totally fills that void and then some. However, take note. Like all great quality clothing, the price is a bit on the moderate to expensive side. You get what you pay for. There are random sales across the store and there is a clearance section that is worth looking over. Though there weren't any ongoing deals when I went in, I was told that there will be upcoming deals in the near future. We had just missed the deal that is often seen in other boutique stores like "Buy $$ worth of merchandise, you get $$ to use at a future date" type of deals. I'll be on the lookout for that! I'm impressed with the overall clothing selection of the store and the knowledgeable woman helping us who happens to be the lovely Andrea. She was definitely on par. A nice touch with the store's customer service is that they offer you a complimentary small 8 oz bottled water while your browsing through the store. There is a large flat screen tv and pair of seats while you wait. For me, I was definitely taking advantage of the bottled water, the seats, and the TV while I waited for my husband shop, try on clothing, and decide his selections. Best shopping experience for my husband, ever!!! The salesgirl was absolutely perfect - she was cute, friendly, approachable, and made both me and my husband feel very comfortable. The entire store is filled with clothes he could wear and he was so thrilled! She sized him once and accompanied him through all the different sections. She listened to his needs and likes and dislikes and found him perfect clothes. And la pièce de resistance? She brought us bottled water! We didn't have to ask - didn't even mention we were thirsty! We had just been at Macy's where the only water they have is bottles they sell at the register. This was seriously a lovely shopping experience with great service and fantastic clothes. What a great experience we had here! My boyfriend is 6'7" so finding anything that fits him is nearly impossible. We walked in to Destination XL and were immediately welcomed and helped by a young lady. (sorry I don't remember her name) She fitted my boyfriend and helped us pick out some nice shirts and slacks for a wedding we were attending that night. I walked into this store on 12.21.2017 with my boyfriend and was going to purchase him some clothes and accessories for Christmas 2017. Normally, I have a great experience. This time, we were greeted at the door by Phil and later on by Casey. Because my boyfriend's size can fluctuate, he needed to try on a smaller size than what he normally is (a 2xl). Never have I been so embarrassed and humiliated. Phil followed us around the store even when we said we knew what we were looking for. He made us feel as if we were stealing or trying to steal. I had a footlocker bag because I just bought some new Jordan's for another Christmas present. Phil insisted that he take my footlocker bag as if I would have the audacity to steal. I have a great job and my boyfriend has two jobs. The fact that they made us feel like we were stealing is DISGUSTING! It honestly felt unreal. Long story short, my boyfriend tried on the clothes and wanted to leave immediately after. I still made the purchase because the quality of the clothing is great. My boyfriend even donated to the baby they were trying to raise money for at the register. No one has every made us more annoyed and disgusted from shopping at this mall ever. If you think someone is stealing and is going to steal, make sure you make it discreet. There are other ways of dealing with it. Merry Christmas DXL and I hope the new year the customer service will change. I will probably only buy online from now on or shop elsewhere. read more

I told her the situation, she pulled clothes style, type, and size I requested as time was a factor. When I showed up Andrea took me to where the clothes were, and as I chose the selected clothing. She made recommendations to help me look better, it was definitely appreciated! By the time I left I was definitely satisfied and made the ceremony on time and looked great doing attending it!!! I walked into the store this evening and was not greeted. In fact, I was in the store for almost 30 minutes before someone approached me. I was asked by an associate if I was going to need a fitting room. He made me feel like I was an inconvenience as I carried all of the garments as he offered zero assistance. Another associate kept commenting about his transaction and how many suits he sold this gentleman as I was left alone. Probably my worst shopping experience at DXL ever. read more

There are so few options for bigger guys so it's sad that DXL uses this opportunity to gouge consumers. In December, I visited this store to get some clothes for some holiday parties. I knew that I was overpaying for off brand clothes but was I a pinch. But the sales person told me that for every $75 I spent, I would get a coupon for $25 to spend I in January so I spent a little more than planned knowing that I could take advantage of some good deals later. So yesterday I stopped by DXL in Mission Valley to use my $50 in coupons. I spent about a hour picking out and trying on several items, knowing that I needed to spend $150 to take advantage of the savings and I knew there were some brand exclusions. So I pick about $200 worth of stuff and head to the counter. The guy starts ringing things up and sees my coupons (and it's the same guy that had helped me in December) and then and only then informs we that the coupons were only good on full priced items. It just so happened that all the items I had chosen were on sale (each about 25% off). This was not intentional al, just worked out that the items I liked the most and needed were on sale. Dude was very rude about it, so I walked out and won't be going back. Such a ripoff and scam. I am better off going online or to other retailers. Won't be scammed again. read more

We were down in San Diego for a wedding and I was originally planning to rent a suit, but LA traffic of course made that impossible. Thankfully my wife found this place which caters to bigger guys and for the first time in my life I found a shirt that fits without being custom tailored. We walked in at 10am when they opened, Todd immediately greeted us and came over to see what we needed. What a great reception! I haven't ever walked into a business the minute they open their doors to such a warm welcome. Todd listened to our plight and immediately went to work finding the perfect jacket, shirt, and tie that I needed. This guy is great. We were in and out minus pants in less than 20 minutes. The fact that they have an in house tailor is great, but unfortunately we weren't able to get pants and have them done here since the wedding was earlier in the day. Any guy who is big and/or tall needs to check this place out. Todd got us decked out in quality clothes that fit well in very short time. Being of the class of 14-15 shoe size, 3XL shirt size, I'm on the other end of the stocking sizes for most retailers. I was pleasantly surprised that DXL was open after I left Target after work around 7pm. The store was empty short of two employees. The first I encountered, Phil, immediately greeted me and started a rapport building dialogue. I knew from the start he must be a sales based income earner, as am I. Nonetheless, I appreciated the subtle nuance of his demeanor, truly a master of the craft. Picking up on my interests and following those inferences, good job Phil. But the reason I will return, and likely spend a great deal of money in the coming months/years, is that unless I shrink, this is truly a one stop shop to buy apparel I couldn't get elsewhere. 5 stars for me. read more

Went in to get some dress shirts because Men's Warehouse idea of a tall person cuts off somewhere around 6'5 and I am a few inches taller than that. Was greeted right away by a gentleman named Todd who immediately started helping me get my measurements and find some shirts for my new job starting in 2 weeks and within a few minutes I had found 3 shirts that fit me perfect, and look amazing. I haven't been feeling too positive about some things over the past few days, and been crossed by people who were close to me so to go out and receive this kind of customer service was incredibly refreshing, and I now have 3 more shirts to confidently wear to my new job to start a new chapter. Had such a great experience her at this store. My boyfriend is a big guy and we always have trouble with variety in clothes. This store is huge and organized and appealing. As we walked in we were instantly greeted by Andrea who asked us what we were looking for. My 5 year old son was also with us and she definitely made him happy by putting on some cartoons as we browsed the store. She was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to, she gave many suggestions and also listened to him on what he liked and didn't like. She was able to come up with several options that he was able to choose from. We walked away with great clothes and a great experience. We will definitely be shopping there again.
