What's that slogan I keep seeing on their merchandise, "5.11 Always Be Ready", isn't it? How does that work again? Came by at 6:20pm on Sunday before Labor Day to pick up my online order, (which had already taken them two business days to pull one item off the shelf and set aside to notify me to pick up) but apparently they had locked the doors and were closing for the night, despite the posted hours sign on the door saying that they are open until 8pm on Sundays?? Apparently the store will not provide store credit without a receipt. I received a pair of work pants (which is no longer part of my uniform) from a family member. I went to the store to return them for store credit since my aunt paid cash and didn't have the receipt. The employee said that they couldn't return for store credit because the buyer gets a receipt emailed. While i know for a fact my aunt didn't cause she has no email. So now a $84 pair of pants ate just going to sit there when i could have used that credit towards an item i could use. First and last time I will ever walk into a 5.11 Tactical store! I recently visited a 5.11 Tactical store and was disappointed by the way my request for a military discount was handled. As a military personnel, I asked if they offered a discount, which is a common courtesy extended by many retailers. However, I was told that if they gave a discount to military personnel, they would "lose out on money." I understand that businesses need to be profitable, but the way this was communicated felt dismissive and unappreciative of the service that military members provide. It left a negative impression, especially given that 5.11 Tactical markets itself as a brand that supports law enforcement and military communities. I hope that 5.11 Tactical reconsiders its policy or, at the very least, trains staff on how to communicate such policies in a more respectful manner. It's disappointing to feel undervalued by a brand that should understand the sacrifices made by those who serve. read more

I was the only person in the shop while three employees were chatting and folding clothes among themselves. I was never once asked if I needed anything or if someone would assist me. I had to ask all the questions about size and ask for a fitting room. Once I went to pay for the items I wanted to purchase, the lady didn't Apply the advertised store promos. I spent the total price and had to check my receipt when I walked out. I then had to return to the store to have her adjust the deals to the advertised prices they had listed. I typically don't leave reviews on places, but this place was terrible. It's discouraging to see other adults around my age with such a lack of care and intention in their work. I managed a retail brick-and-mortar clothes store in Las Vegas for over five years. Care about the person that walks into your store. They are there to spend their hard-earned money. Do not shop here. This store has terrible customer service. I have shopped here several times over the past four years and have had nothing but a pleasant experience. I have bought multiple boots, gear, and clothing from this store. I haven't shopped here in about year, mostly since I haven't had the need to. I recently bought pants here and I wasn't sure if the size was going to fit well. I have never had an issue with exchanging or returning an item to the store in the past. I have returned or exchanged clothing and boots in the past without an issue. I wore it twice and the pants wore a bit too large. So I returned about a week later to exchange for a smaller size. I washed the pants and made sure there weren't any tears, although I only wore it twice. Once to try on and a second time wear for the day. The male employee barely looked at the pants and said it's too worn. I told him that can't be possible, since I only really wore it once and it's been a week since my purchase. He then laughed and said they need to be in brand new condition. He couldn't show me anywhere where it had damage and said if they were worn, he could not help me. Has anything changed recently in their exchange or return policy? The receipt has a disclosure any item can be exchanged within 90 days. And any defected item can be returned for an equal value. The pants were partially brand new, so I don't know what the problem was. Needless to say do not shop at this location. read more

Literally got to the store when it was closing. The guy would not let me in, even though he saw me running up to the door which he just locked. The last customer saw me running as well and even said "that's messed up that they wouldn't let you in"... I used G Rated language. I know that there is set store hours but, for me it's the lack of even coming to the door, and then looking at me like "oh well". My usual 5-11 store is in Oceanside, but I will NOT be coming to the San Diego store again. This experience has turned me off of 5-11 for a while. To the crew that was inside, looking at me like... "sucks to be you" as I had my hands in a praying gesture... think about customer service and being understanding. If you have the time and inclination drop in and you will find nice, responsive sales associates and a wide array of products. 5.11 has quite the following for their growing line of "Casual Tactical" wear. If you squint a little, you can use their stuff for Boy Scout uniforms, comfortable desert trips and camping. It's everything an outdoor dad needs for weekends, pretty much. The stuff holds up really well, but it's not cheap. The store is all MSRP, too -- expensive. You can usually find 5.11 gear at a discount elsewhere, but nobody has the full-line selection of the company stores. It's really well stocked, organized, and kept clean and neat. For knives, just a few Benchmade, some Hogue and store-brand ones. Sometimes they run the same promos in-store as on-line, but usually NOT. Online from 5.11 is cheaper! That makes for a weird situation where you're better off sizing up in the store and ordering online to get the discounts and goods. I prefer to buy in the store, so wait for the sales. I have had only good experiences with the customer service here. Plenty of staff, and they're always willing to look for the right size or color. They were able to special-order an unstocked color from the computer at no extra charge. The few times I've been there, Jessica has been right there and on top of things. Okay, Five Stars for: * Excellent full-catalog selection. After seeing it from the freeway a number of times, I finally came in with a friend interested in a backpack he saw online. Being familiar with the brand I knew to expect quality a cut above the rest, at a price. Good gear isn't cheap, friends. To my surprise everything in the store (I was told) was marked at 10% off MSRP; perhaps to compete online. I've shopped some 5.11 pants online for a deal, but of course couldn't try them on. Maybe it's worth it to visit the store and have a brick and mortar location to back that warranty up. Surprisingly.. no military discount. I was surprised given the close proximity to so many bases. James greeted us and offered help, but didn't press us or follow us, or check back every 5mins, which I appreciated. The store is SO full of cool gear, I didn't expressly need a mag holder pouch, but seeing one made better than I'd ever before.. yeah, I bought it. You are getting high quality gear that should last you a minute or more. I've purchased pants from the 5.11 brand and they no doubt last longer then some brands I've worn before. If you look around carefully you can find a deal here or there. I found a pull over thermal/zip up for $38. Normal price was $74. Of course I saw it as was walking out near the entrance after initially not picking anything up. Guess that's how they get you at the entrance/exit. A coincidence that this place just happened to open up when I was looking to buy a new backpack. I had been researching a new backpack for hiking for a while now and the 511 bags seem to be midgrade quality with lots of compartments for keeping stuff organized. The bags are defintely pricey no doubt, but you are paying for the quality when buying 511 products. They're certainly no GoRuck bags that are USA made, but they seem to last people a long time. This store carries alot of the 511 tactical catalog. I ended up coming here from seeing this place listed on 511's official website stating this is a company maintained store. I was originally going to purchase my Rush bag off of Amazon. Other people had mentioned that 511 does not honor their warranty on bags purchased from Amazon because they're not an official distributor. My guess is too many knockoffs from China end up there. So I came here and bought my Rush 12 bag. Service was great, guys pointed me out to where the bags are and asked if I had any questions. Prices are on par with retail value, you aren't going to get any deals here. My Rush 12 bag was a bit too small for my taste, so I returned to get the step up to the bigger 24 bag. Exchange was no big deal the next day and I was in and out in a matter of minutes. Parking is kinda of a hassle due to all the stores, but there is a bit of street parking as well. read more

Horrible customer service. My husband and I are both law enforcement/military and came in after a friend told us they had great deals. Walked up the the front door where they were having a raffle. My husband looked around a little while one gentleman was talking to 2 other couples. Two other employees were just standing behind the table. After about 5 minutes i asked how to go about getting a ticket for the raffle. One guy said "oh ask him" and turned away. Already turned off before even entering the store we walked inside. Signs said they were having a grand opening so as expected there was lots of staff. Not one person said hello. We walked around for about 10 minutes before finally leaving. When we walked back outside to the raffle table again, the two gentlemen looked at us and literally kept talking to each other. Yup we got the message. This store is tactical heaven. 5.11 Tactical only produces top-quality gear and the gentlemen at this location have extensive knowledge on anything and everything 5.11 I came in with my Rush12 to ask about its durability and maintenance. I got my answers quick and easy. I checked out the whole store and tried my best not to buy everything I laid my hands on. Luckily I only walked out of there with a patch, and a Rite in the Rain pen & notebook. When I told them that I'm from Orange County, they informed me that there are locations closer to where I live. But one thing's forsure: whenever I'm in the San Diego area, I'll be stopping by this store. All in all, this store has awesome gear and awesome customer service. I highly recommend it. read more

I walked into 5.11 today and was greeted with smiles and courtesy. The staff was more than welcoming and helpful and went above and beyond to make sure I had what I needed. Now, I wish they would only get licensing to do name tapes and badges and give Ace a run for their money ! Have to amend my review, this place made an agreement with crooked ACE to not sell CDCR uniforms. How that is even legal is beyond me. This is a pretty cool store that has all of the necessities. I've had horrible experiences with 5.11 uniforms so I won't buy them. But a lot of their other products are great. It's awesome they've opened this store in San Diego, in mission valley. I'll be by much too often, I'm sure.
