I had originally intended to go to the fast service Indian place next door (weekday lunch break) but they still appeared to be closed... so I came in here instead. Their menu is posted in the window (which helped me decide to come in). As I entered I found a clean atmosphere. The carpet is new and the decor is appealing. All of the tables were setup with placemats and pitchers with water and glasses ready and waiting. I was immediately greeted by a young man who urged me to take any seat I'd like. Their menu offers plenty of vegetarian (and vegan) entries as well as chicken, lamb, etc. their prices are very reasonable. It appears they offer a buffet but it didn't look ready so I ordered a potato and spinach dish with rice and some garlic naan bread. Food was served in bowls, so next time I will bring friends so we can share. The potatos were cooked perfectly and I found the flavor to be authentic and flavorful. Many Indian places turn down the flavor to appeal to the masses; this place was not afraid to cook true to tradition! The waiter was attentive, friendly, and professional... he realized I was on lunch break and quickly brought me a to go dish and check, he also cared if I enjoy the food. I inquired about the buffet and he said it is Friday-Sunday, fridays the cost is less than $12, and a few more dollars on the weekend. I had not dined here before, I thought I would try it out. The decor is plain but pleasing. The restaurant appeared very clean. I appreciated having my own pitcher of water on the table (although it had no ice and was not refilled). The service was good, but not superb; the server and I seemed to have a communication problem, but my order was correct and was served without undue delay. I had the sweet corn soup for starters, which was delicious: not as rich as a bisque, with a very pleasing blend of flavours, and a nice sweetness that was not too strong. The entree was the spicy lamb curry, served with rice, and that was also delicious. The rice was fluffy and flavourful, and the curry was zesty without being painfully hot. The lamb was tender and savory. The entree was a very substantial amount of food: I am a big guy, and I was stuffed when I was done. I think there would be plenty for most people to take home! I ordered gulab jamun to go for dessert, and was disappointed that they were cold, but since I was going to chill them anyway for later that wasn't a big deal. This was one of my worst Indian restaurant experiences ever! Being an Indian, I have tried many restaurants of Indian cuisine. Ordered veg biryani and 2 masala dosas. First off, they made me wait 40 mins when it was only me and another family at the restaurant? I wouldn't mind waiting that long if the food was yummy but this was the worst food I've ever paid for. Sambar was so sour, I feel like it was expired or days old? Barely any dosa masala in my dosa and the chutneys were tasteless! The veg biryani was just filled with LOTS of cardamom flavor and that's it? No other good flavor. Very disappointing, especially for the dosas. I was expecting at least decent food. A lot has been already said about the shady and dim ambience of this place so I will directly jump on my food experience. We ordered 2 entrees - malai kofta (veg and costs $11.99) and butter chicken (non veg and costs $11.99) along with naan and rice. The food was nowhere close to some of the other good Indian restaurants I have visited in Chantilly. The curry was not as viscous as t should be, and the quantity of pieces of kofta and chicken made us feel like those dishes shouldn't cost more than $6.99. There were only 3 pieces of kofta and very few small pieces of chicken in bowls FULL of below par curry which did no justice to the price they are selling it for. We ordered take out from here. The food was quite excellent. We had the Vijaywada boneless chicken biryani, Hyderabad dum chicken biryani and Hyderabad mutton biryani, as well as the gongura mutton. All of these were delicious. They were a bit salty but I don't mind that. The Vijaywada chicken biryani was particularly good, almost homemade style like I was eating at a friend's house and a kind you don't normally find at a restaurant. The only thing that was slightly weird is that there were chickpeas in the gutti vankaya (eggplant) so I wonder if they mistakenly poured it on top? And also I ordered the regular mirchi bajjis but got the stuffed ones-everyone else enjoyed them so it was ok. Overall I still give it 5 stars as the food quality was so good. I have been to this place three times now. I loved the taste of curries hence kept going back. However I had a very bad experience last week. We wanted to eat goat so we ordered spicy mutton curry. While the sauce was yummy, they gave us 2 small pieces of mutton along with some cartilage pieces and shredded piece. The price of the dish was $12.99. My husband asked not to say anything and write a yelp review later but I couldn't stop myself. I called the owner and told him. He gave us 20% off on the check. I think this is the worst meal I've ever had! It had both chicken manchurian (red pieces) and chicken leg pieces (brown in color) in the same bowl. I have never seen/had such a disastrous biryani!! It came with a horrible raita, tasted funny and seemed like a few pieces in water with a drop of yogurt there. It also came with some other not-so-good orange colored oily sauce - not even sure what it was and so didn't bother tasting even. I haven't been to this joint in a while, in past it was an mediocre experience. Recently, a particular dish was recommended by a friend and I was in the neighborhood and decided to give it a try. The dish is called Raju gari Biryani (King's Biryani), it took them good 30 minutes to get my carryout together, I rushed home and boy I was in for a treat. It was flavorful, wonderful aroma, the spice was right there and a bit greasy(a notch down there would have taken it home). It was not a traditional biryani, but it felt like a fusion between Dum Biryani and a Chicken curry, which took the dryness out of biryani and the fried cashew's was a good touch added a mild burnt flavor to the dish. The Chicken was cooked to the right tenderness and smaller pieces than compared to one or two big pieces in a usual traditional biryani, was something I appreciated. Came for an office lunch; 8 of us ate our fair share over the course of 40 minutes. The buffet line was always busy but always moving..lots of tables in there at 12:30 on a Friday- always a good sign! What I enjoyed most is that unlike other Indian buffets, this one actually put spice in the dishes..like I drank more water than ever before while noming. I wish the service was more on it's game..like finished plates should be constantly picked up from tables, and water pitchers should be refilled; otherwise, an all around enjoyable time. Fairly diverse and large selection of dishes. Spicier compared to similar places. Naan and other breads were hot and fresh. Seems to be dirty. Water pitcher had some debris at the bottom. Food seems to be prepared in advance and reheated because most dishes were lukewarm. Service is so-so. There doesn't seem to be a dedicated waiter. They also wear casual clothes so you can't tell the difference between customers and employees. Saw one customer have to ask several times and wait 5 minutes before someone gave him a takeout box.
