The food looked way better in the photo than it tasted. I ordered the fried fish plate, which looked absolutely delicious on the website. What I received, though, was a different story. Instead of a crispy, golden brown filet, the fish was quite a bit darker and looked like it had been overcooked in old frying oil. It was seasoned with herbs, but it desperately needed salt. Taste-wise, it was just bland. The chickpeas on the side were more palatable, but the naan was a huge letdown. I've never had naan with that kind of texture. Normally, naan is chewy and spongy, but this was... not that. The texture was dry and flat, more like pita bread than naan. I really wanted to like this more than I did. It had so much potential, but unfortunately, I barely made it halfway through before tossing it. read more

The unassuming exterior hides the quality family restaurant beyond. I've enjoyed the food in store, to go and catering and it's all good. The kabobs are a solid choice but my most favorite items are the butter chicken and chickpea curry. There is nothing in this area that compares to the texture and flavor of these two dishes. Came here with friends on a weeknight... Personally, I love Pakistani food as the absolute BEST of all the Middle Eastern curried dished, but I'm partial to it as it's what I was raised on and I've had it in Pakistan over several visits and I know it quite well... and this place does it quite nicely! Service is typical of an ethnic joint - Meaning they're friendly, but don't expect over-the-top service, utensils, plates, etc... this place uses paper plates and you have to ask for nearly everything you might need - but I don't hold this against them as they mean the best, there's a slight cultural difference that needs to be considered. A great example of that is that they even came out and offered us some AMAZING kheer as a free dessert after we were done with dinner. Their chicken kaharai was great! Very tasty, nicely spiced, and made just right. Their aloo polak was decent and their naan was ok (slightly too thick). The biryani was excellent, as was their buttered chicken, channa, and vindaloo chicken. Would highly recommend them for a very nice, Pakistani (which is the BEST) curry and kabob experience. I'm even more partial to them as my family is from Rawalpindi (where I've visited many times) and the name reminds me of that village. read more

The chicken was very well done, moist and full of flavor. I loved the garlic Naan, so soft and delicious. I didn't like the Palak paneer so much. It was one of the oiliest (or I guess buttered) curry I've ever had. I mean pools of oil in the curry. I have to watch how much oil I consume due to acid reflux so was a bit disappointed to see how much oil or butter was used. In my opinion, it just is uncessary and ruins the dish. I took it home and tried to see if I could let the oil cool and separate, but the whole thing just solidified, oil too since I think there was that much butter. I could tell it was butter as you could really taste the sweet buttery flavor. Anyway, would never order that again and if I were to come back I'd ask for their least oily curry on the menu. Used to go to this place on a regular basis several years ago to eat Chicken Karahi. Food taste changed for worst when the original chef left. Recently, decided to give it a try and was surprisingly delighted. Ordered chicken karahi, goat curry and palak paneer. All three dishes were very good and has nice flavor. Since we have been there few more times during different times for consistency. Found out that the owner's wife is the cook for veggies and curries. Will be a go to place again. read more

If you like dining with cockroaches this your place. Came here for lunch. Midway through my meal a cockroach came scurry up the seat across from me. By far, the BEST butter chicken and naan I have ever had. I have tried butter chicken and naan at other restaurants and I have tried to recreate this dish at home, and have always failed. Simply nothing will top the butter chicken here. I wish they added more chicken, but there is a large amount of sauce. The dish is $15 and you get 1 freshly baked naan and rice. The naan is so good that I always request a 2nd naan instead of rice. You can also buy additional naan for $2 each. Lamb curry is the best. This small place is old and needs new paint job and some deep cleaning of the floors. The food is really delicious and my favorite is the lamb curry. I heard chicken curry is as good but I love lamb. The prices are good as well. Btw one order of the curry is enough for 3 person, feel free to ask for more bread which is delicious. The owner gave us Pakistani chai which was delicious I am not sure if it's on the menu but if it's not they should add it. Lastly the rice pounding was just another sweet treat. I decided to go for the Chicken Biryani Combo rather than my usual Chicken Kabob Combo (boneless) today. The chicken was dry,,, very very dry.....so dry that I just left it and only ate the rice. The rice was cooked to perfection with just the right amount of spices. Surprisingly, it was actually comparable to the Biryani rice I had in Singapore. So why still the 3 stars? Under new management! So my coworker and I decided to try this place again. We went before years back but just never found it to be that great. There are so many kabob places in the area that we thought was way better. Not really sure what "new mgmt" even means...did the recipes change? New menu items? New cook? The menu looked different but with the similar choices you would find at any kabob place. Service was good, he allowed my coworker to sub out rice for a different side, and I subbed out the naan for spinach as well. Too many carbs to have both rice and naan! Good portion size on the meats especially the chicken. The flavor was good and it was cooked just right so the meats were not dry or chewy. I would say that we would definitely come back since it's literally right across the street from our office. Would I travel more than 10 miles to eat here? I ate in many kabob places. This is the best one that people don't know about. I am known to my picky taste of food, so, the food of this restu is delicious. I tried chickpeas, bone in/ bone less chicken, ground meat kabob, rice, and the bread as well. Each plate is well done. Meat is moist and tasty, chickpeas is not over cooked or under cooked, the rice is not dry, the ground meat is not over spiced. The other amazing thing, the person at the cashier, I believe he is the owner or somebody relate to owner, is very nice & welcoming & respectful. The place is tidy and clean in compare to other afgani/Pakistani places. After I tried their food for the first time in May 2019, I kept going back to them, I even skip the Pakistani restu that is closer and in my way. And forget to say, I took catering from them and they plate were well organized and they were generous, they gave me 4 extra bread. And all other plates were a lotttt. read more

Went there after a while with the family. It's pretty close to where we live. We ordered their combo 1. We got the chicken Tikka bone in and chicken sheekh Kabab. It usually comes in boneless and lamb but we requested for all chicken and with bone in. It came with rice, bread, salad, chickpeas and chutney. Also got one tea which the guy didn't charge us for. One order of lamb chops as well. The food tasted very good and fresh. It was served warm and you could tell it wasn't any leftover. Also some kabab places cook their chicken Tikka in the oven but doesn't say it. This one you could tell it was cooked in the tandoor. As the taste said it all. The naans were very soft and everything came in good portion. The owner is an extremely nice gentleman and works very hard. Always welcomes you with a smile and even gave us complimentary rice pudding last time. I would definitely recommend people to go there with their families and friends and you can even stop by for lunch if nearby. When I used to work in Pohanka Lexus everyone used to order lunch from there. But make sure you order ahead as it takes time to cook the kababs. ***3.5 stars*** So I went here yesterday for lunch with one of my co-workers. I have been here previously, but I didn't remember enough of my visit to write a review. Rawal is located in a shopping center off route 50 in Chantilly. It's in the same shopping center as the Minerva. The location is fine, nothing fancy, questionably clean, but then again so are most kabob joints. I ordered the #1 Rawal Special which comes with 1 boneless chicken kabob, 1 beef or chicken (I opted for beef) seekh kabob, rice, a salad (I opted out of the salad), a vegetable (I opted for chickpeas), naan, and raita. Since they make everything fresh as ordered our order took about 15-20 minutes to be prepared. The rice, chick peas, naan, and raita were standard - tasty but nothing special. The boneless chicken kabob was one of the best I've had, flavorful and succulent! The beef seekh kabob could use alot of work. It was tough in texture, perhaps from overworking the meat? And the flavor was just ok. Upon my return, and I will be back, I shall only get the chicken kabob. This is odd for me to say because I prefer beef to chicken 99% of the time, but the chicken here was just that good. I paid $10.50 for all of that food, but that was all I needed to eat for the whole day. I ate most of it for lunch and a little bit for "dinner", and I was STUFFED. And I don't fill easily. So it was a pretty good value as well. Of course there are a whole other rack of things I'd like to try here including the Lahore Fish Fry and Baby Goat biriyani, but it was good enough for my to visit more frequently and add to my lunch rotation. As for service, I received good service, but I was also with a native speaker...that might be the difference unfortunately. I had it for the very first time when my friend had a party and catered it from there--the chicken and rice was so delicious and the chicken was so moist and juicy! I had to go back...! I did go today, and the chicken was delicious, but the beef was very average. I order the special combo #1 with beef and chicken with chickpeas (yummy) although the salad was very average (as expected) and the beef was lacking in flavor. I also ordered the tandoori chicken which was DEEEEEEEElicious, but again the food is good, but takeout is much better b/c the place is HOT, STUFFY and the service is not good. The gentleman there was not friendly. The spinach and potatoes were NOT good, but again ,the chickpeas were delish. This place is better say than a place like moby dick's and it's close by, and I would definitely go back to get the chicken and rice with chickpeas to go! read more

I USED to love this place. I am sorry to report that the love is gone. My co-workers and I ate here 1-2 times per week for about 7 years and were occasionally disappointed but overall it was one of my favorites despite being a bit dirty. We even affectionately called it Dirty Kabob because the tables and spice shakers were always a bit sticky. Over the years we saw several management changes but most recently the Z-Kabob regime came in and ruined everything we loved about the place. Not only is the place FILTHY and ROACH infested, but the staff is rude. Before you go; Google: Fairfax county health code violations & Rawal Kabob. Come to Rawal Kabob House for the food, not for the ambiance. Strictly low-end -- borderline dodgy, actually -- inside. But the food is surprisingly tasty and well-prepared. RKH claims to serve Indian, Pakistani, Afghan, and several other types of food, and there certainly is a mish-mash on the menus and in the steam tables. I chose a lamb kabob (about $10). It took some time for my food to be ready, but that's because the kabobs are made to order. I had expected nothing more than the lamb and some rice, but the dish was complete with the meat, rice, some sort of channa curry, a small salad, naan, and raita. It's plenty of food for one person. The lamb (sirloin) was properly marinated and cooked to perfection, not overcooked as I had feared. The cuts of meat used were actually very lean, and the portion was just right. The rice was a bit dry, which I should have expected at almost 3 in the afternoon (yes, I was hung over after a big night; guilty as charged), but the real surprise was the naan. There's an on-site tandoor and the naan, like the kabob, is cooked to order. Fresh kabob and naan... yummy. Rawal Kabob House certainly isn't worth a special trip, but it's a fine choice if you happen to be in the area. And you can combine dining with cultural enlightenment, as the TV is locked on Country Music Television -- which was showing some sort of rural reality program while I was there. Yee-haw. read more
