I explored this place few months ago and have been going there with family and friends since then. Food - The food is very good and they have been consistent. I especially like Chicken kadai, biryani and boneless chicken kabob. Price - This is very it's gets really good. The price is very reasonable. Ambiance - This is a no-frill place and the decor is not much to talk about. The food is served in disposable plates so it's not a place you want to take someone on a date Cleanliness - It's average. Last night was my first visit to Rawal. I know nothing about the new management and lack historical context of this restaurant so will only comment for now. The owner is a very nice gentleman, but nice guy alone does not make a restaurant. There are hundreds of kabob places in the northern Virginia area. If Rawal is going to succeed I believe they need to offer something that catches my attention. The food is good. However, it is the type of food which lends itself to a quick dinner where you do not have to drive more than 5 minutes. In other words I would not make a special trip to eat here. The chicken kebab was moist, nicely spiced and the bread was delicious and fresh baked. The meal had a side of chick peas which were nicely done. Yet, for the lack of atmosphere and plastic plates, the cost is indeed higher than it should be. I would suggest trying it on your own, but for me there are kebab places in the area that are much better. read more

Strolled in here on a Friday night around 7 and no one was in the place. Oh oh, but I went ahead and ordered a boneless chicken kabob for $12.70, which came with rice, chick peas, cilantro sauce, naan and a small salad made of lettuce, a sliver of tomato and some sliced onion. Waited about 15 minutes and it was well worth it. The kind gent brought my food to the table. I got five kabobs, sitting on my bed of basmati rice, juicy and spiced perfectly. The naan was just out of the tandoori oven, warm, soft and chewy. The chick peas were nicely spiced and the kabobs were perfectly cooked, nice and tender. I dunked one in the cilantro sauce and that was a good combo. I got a mango lassi to go and it delicious as well. Freshly made (heard the osterizer mixing it in the kitchen); the cook told me to take a sip to see if it was OK; it was delicious! Never been to a place so friendly and accommodating. As I left, one of the other gents was kneeling on a carpet praying. Incredibly nice folks, food is fresh and homemade. I hear the butter chicken is excellent and the chicken karahai, too. So unsuspecting and a hidden Gem in NOVA. Walked into this small family ran business expecting just something to fill up my stomach but what I got was an EXPERIENCE. I ordered the boneless chicken kabob dinner and what I got with it was the freshest piece of naan straight outta the tandoori buttered up. The naan was so fresh you can just tell by looking at it, smelling it, and most definitely biting in it, really engages the senses if I'm being frank. On to the chick peas or in indo-pak cuisine, "chane" were spicy but in a very enjoyable way and you could really taste everything that was going on extremely nuanced taste. Then to top it all off, the boneless chicken and rice was phenomenal. The chicken kabobs reminded me how it was back in Pakistan it was seasoned to perfection and was tender. The rice was al Dente as well and seasoned with light pomegranate and garnished with parsley. That small addition of pomegranate seasoning and fresh parsley really elevated the dish. To top this extravaganza off, I got all this for 16 bucks!!! Yeah you can't beat the quality, quantity, freshness, and price for what your getting. I work in Chantilly and end up eating at Rawal Kabob about once a week or so. They changed ownership or management a few months ago. The food is still the same, but in general the place is cleaner than it used to be. All in all they serve up some of the best kabobs in the DC area that I have had. My favorites are as follows: 1) The lamb kabob is very nice. The meat is typically tender, not fatty, and cooked medium rare the way I like it. 2) The boneless chicken is well spiced with an orange tandori type glaze on it. Chicken kabob's can frequently be very dry, but the chicken at Rawal is always very tender and moist. 3) The fish kabob is very spicy and not to be missed. I think lots of people are scared away from ordering fish at a kabob shop, but take a chance and you will enjoy it. For sides you get a choice of either chickpeas over rice or indian style veggies over rice. The chickpeas are pretty good, but they used to be better. The veggies change every day or so, but they are mostly very good. Sometimes you get cream spinach and sometimes you will get okra in a curry sauce. The owner will let you have a taste of the veggies if you want to try them. read more

Its so hard to find great restaurants here in Northern VA, but Rawal Kabob is SO GOOD!!!! The Naan is so fresh and it's not burnt!!! The Rawl Special is REALLY great to get on your first time here because you get the chicken, as well as the beef kabobs, if you're debating on what to get, so you're essentially getting two meals in one. The chickpeas + rice is a perfect combination. The portions are HUGE....So much food for $10. I will definatley be back. Great little hidden gem :) .. I usually get the rawal kabob special which gives you chicken and ground beef kabob with rice and your choice of chick peas or curry, you also get a salad and bread. the place isn't all that much to look at but you go there at lunch time and the place is usually packed. Rawal is nothing special but does a nice job to subside your kabob craving at lunchtime if you work in the Chantilly area, like me. Their bread is actually the best part of the place. It's very thick and doughy which I like, compared to some other kabob places that have thinner, crispier breads. Rice is pretty flavorless, chickpeas are lacking any real sauce or spice with them but the meats are pretty juicy and have a nice char to them. Variety and prices are both good at Rawal. read more

My fiancé and I were in the area and just wanted to find a quick dinner spot. This was everything I wanted and more! We ordered the chicken karahi and it was super yummy. Perfect amount of masala and spice. I'm very picky about green chutney and this definitely met my standards. The naan was so warm and fluffy. I notice most of the good reviews are from several years ago. I usually don't care much about décor or even cleanliness, so long as the food is authentic, but I must give Rawal Kabob low marks in this area. Any owner who cared a little could make it a nicer place. The two large roaches crawling on the glass near the food and open containers of yoghurt sauce creeped me out a bit, although I'm sure the cleanest places I've eaten also have a roach or two somewhere. The naan was good, although I've had tastier. My wife's chicken was good, my seekh kabob was tasty but too salty for my liking. The channa was about right. It's right next to a Halal butcher and grocery. Personally, I would tear down the wall and open the place up, make it a Halal butcher and grocery with a neat little place to eat inside. There are many Kabob places in this area, but this one stands out. It is not as good as Charcoal Kabob in Herndon (the Golden Standard for Kabob in my book) but it is up there. I've had the Chicken Kebob and Sheekh Kabob and both were perfectly spiced. I find Kabob is a personal preference for many (how spicy or flavorful you like it) so I see no point going into details describing the food. You should try it for yourself. The staff is very friendly. I talked to one of the owners while waiting for my food, and I told him how much I like Charcoal Kabob (and my obsession with their chickpeas) and he only had the nicest things to say about them. He did offer me a free sample of their chicpeas (of course I was going to get them as a side anyway) and theirs are quite good as well. A bit too watery for my taste though. I would definitely try this place and make up your own opinion about it. read more

BEWARE!!! BEWARE!!! BAD FOOD AND FAMILY AND CHILDERN GOT REALLY SICK! HORRIBLE FOOD and HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT. Long story short. I was coming from out of town driving through Virginia to visit family. We ordered Chappli Kabab, Chicken Kabab Bone In and another Chicken bone out and variety of side dishes. My nephew ate the food and got diarrhea and was sick for days. I ate the food as well and I could tell the chicken was bad so I did not bother eating and tossed all the food. By this time we were already in North Carolina and I called the store that night to warn them the food was bad and gave my nephew food poisioning because something was wrong with the food. The person on the phone pertended he was not the owner. Hung up on me 3-4 time thats night acting like he could not hear me. I called again the next day and then he came clean and said he was the owner. I was very upset on how he handled the situation and demanded my money be refunded but being typical Indian/Pakistani owner, responsibilty and accountibiliy are not in their vocabulary. I hope our next generation does better than the owners that run these restuarants now. The owner asked for the food back but we were not willing to drive back up 6 hours. Food tasted horrible. Management is horrible. Not a place to take your kids and family to eat. I will be reporting their restaurant and taking further action to ensure they take the quailty of their food more seriously. read more

We recently ordered catering from Rawal Kabob for an Indian party of 100 people. In my first visit to them, the owners sat with me to understand the type of food we really wanted. We wanted bengali fish in a specific way and mutton and other stuff. They went out of their way to prepare those dishes and even fed us free to taste it before confirming. AMAZING SERVICE ! When the food was delivered on the party day, everyone loved the food. It was not spicy like typical indian restaurant food. The Bengali style fish they made was a super hit in the party.
