We visited this restaurant when it was Athidhi before covid, when they had the lunch buffet. We stopped by once in 2021, but left because it was empty and they no longer had the lunch buffet. We made the mistake of coming here (on a weekday evening) and left wondering, "How is this place still open???". There weren't any other customers, which should have been the first sign to leave. Zero decor, second sign to leave. The menu looked like it was typed up by a high schooler, no description and was partially hand written, final sign to leave. Unfortunately, being that we had high hopes (since their buffet used to be good), we stayed and ordered a chicken vindaloo and mutter paneer with naan. The naan was like rubber, not sure if it was heated in the microwave or old. The chicken vindaloo looked/tasted like regular chicken curry and had bones, which wasn't even mentioned on the menu. I have ordered chicken vindaloo from many other India restaurants and they always had boneless chicken and actually tasted like vindaloo. The server wasn't helpful in any way and didn't seem to know much about the food. We barley touched the food, paid and just left the rest of the food on the table. read more

The food was amazing, the ambience was crap. It is a bare empty restaurant with no art, no music, weird layout. It looked like they were in the middle of a renovation and quickly put up some tables so they could feed people. I wasn't even sure how to ask for a table when we walked in, there was no visible staff. Picked this place because it had good ratings on Yelp, so not sure what they normally look like and if this is a representation of what they're really like. You could tell this place was authentic because there were three other tables and they were all Indian. We got: Masala Mirchi Bhajji - battered and fried chili pepper stuffed with onion. Tarka Dal - yellow lentils Chicken Tikka masala - chicken in a thick creamy sauce The flavors are great, we didn't specify our heat level and we got medium and it was really spicy. I love spicy and can handle spicy, but it was almost too much for me. One food downside, they didn't provide much rice with the dish. The menu is exactly what you see on the website, small print, no pictures. So you have to know what you're looking for or ask a lot of questions. We came here after ages and well worth it! Bismark is the new chef in charge and my husband and I owe our delicious comforting meal to him and the staff. I stuck to the traditional nomz- onion chili dosa. My husband was in the mood to be adventurous and enjoyed his special treat! I hope Chef Bismark puts this decadent, flavorful, tender lamb leg with shrimp on the menu soon. In summary, food is good and nice flavors but need to tell them spice level for best experience, however service and atmosphere need serious improvements. I The food here tastes pretty good but the service and ambiance and presentation all need a lot of work. We ordered 2 dosas, tandoor chicken tikka, and mirchi bhajji. They told us they are out of the mirchi bhajji but have paneer pakoras so we said okay. The flavor of the pakora was fine but it was just 5 dry pakoras. We asked for chutney but took them about 10 mins to get it so naturally the apps were done. The dosas then came out at different times which was a bit odd because we went for a birthday dinner and naturally the guests want to eat the meal at the same time. However the real issue was the chicken, it came out about 20-25 mins after the dosas. The chicken was cooked well however it was not flavored with spices nor was there any tikka sauce or seasonings. We stopped by at about 12:30 on a Friday for lunch. When we walked in and noticed the sticky floor, that should have been our sign to leave. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant; it was primarily empty -- another sign. But we decided to stay and try the buffet. The onion pakora was cold. Other items on the buffet were room temperature at best. They had two types of biryani. The chicken biryani had small drumsticks, which didn't make it easy to eat without using your hands. Nearly every dish on the buffet was spicy, so if you don't like spicy food, you're out of luck. The only vegetable dish on the buffet was the onion pakora. They had a soup with some vegetables floating in it. Didn't try it. Service was nearly non-existent. We got bottled water, and my husband asked for a glass. We never saw the person again and had to summon someone so we could actually pay the bill. We won't return to try items from the menu -- although, hopefully, they're hotter than the buffet. read more

All the food is really good. Even the dipping sauce for the cracker-wheel appetizer thingies! I liked that sauce so much that I ate it by itself with a spoon. The bhindi masala and chicken tikka were both hearty and flavorful, and we appreciated the generous portions. They may be South Indians but they make really good North Indian food also. The dosas were of course exceptional! We got the onion rava masala dosa and it was rich and crispy. The aloo had a pleasing balance of spices. Our few complaints were that the service was a little awkward--though friendly!--the location is kind of hard to get to, and the interior could be made more homey. I wanted to like it more. This is situated in the place where Minerva used to be located. My parents and I went here on Veterans Day. Buffet was on the small side and not many vegetable options. The chicken tikka masala was very good. The naan was perfect. The rest of the dishes were ok. Lentils were decent. Nothing was really good except the chicken. Maybe it was an off day or maybe I have been too spoiled by Saravana Palace. They were burning incense, which usually I like, but it was so strong at one point I almost had to step out to get some air. I liked the restaurant overall, but it's not my favorite Indian restaurant in the area. All the puri options were unavailable and service was slower than normal. They have a huge menu of options. A number of things I don't normally see on other menus -which is good. The tamarind sauce was really good. The gulab jamon was AMAZING, maybe the best I've had in the US, but overpriced. If you like authentic Indian food - do NOT eat here as the food is very disappointing to taste and ridiculously expensive. I went to this establishment over their weekend which happens to be their grand opening. I had to throw half of it out because it was disgusting; not kidding. Since it was opened over the weekend, I wanted to try something different and although I was craving Mexican food I decided to try Athidhi Indian Cuisine and I really wished I had not. Most of the places try to maintain the standards at least for the first few months..but, this place is a flop from the first day. Perhaps this is another place that substitutes quantity for quality and rather than following the traditional recipes - they make the food bland to feed to the masses. I ordered Goat Dum Biryani (which is BLAND) which came with a horrible raita, tasted funny and seemed like a few pieces in water with a drop of yogurt there. It also came with some other not-so-good orange coloured oily sauce - not even sure what it was and so didn't bother tasting even. The chicken curry and goat curry (which is also BLAND) and really could not tell the difference between the two other than they both have different colors and meat (orange and golden). If Athidhi used spices in their dishes (and oils), they used them sparingly because I could not detect any spice used and what it tasted like to me is a sauce from a CAN. In addition to my order, I was asked do I want Naan- assuming the Naan was included I said yes, and assumed the Naan would be nice; it was not and rather dried up with edges burnt. They didn't even bother to cut the edges. Evidently, the manager/owner standing there doesn't seem to be bothered about customer service. Manager/owner is not concerned about taking the feedback or checking with the customers. The bottom line is 1. Sauces/Biryani are BLAND with no distinctive taste to them and in looking at the item when cold - the sauce breaks down and separates from the water which is at the bottom (obviously they WATER down their sauces as opposed to using OIL; who does this?) 2. the Naan SUCKs 3. food is cold by time one sits down to eat 4. if paying for the naan, one should be asked what they would like (rather than assuming) 5. Overpriced for mediocre food. I would NEVER come back to this place again. read more

My friends and I were looking for an Indian buffet for Sunday lunch and Athidhi did not disappoint. The selection was by far the largest I've seen at an Indian buffet. As I'm not the most adventurous person when it comes to ordering off the menu at Indian places (I don't want to not like a full entree so I stick to chicken tikka masala or butter chicken) I was thrilled to be able to taste so many different things. The goat was great, as was the sweet potato, and the fish. Those are probably the stand outs for me, everything was really good. Always fresh hot naan and another thin rolled bread. Yummy, yummy, yummy. One thing I like about this place is that their buffet has things that I typically don't see elsewhere (like the Biriyani, delish). It gives me an opportunity to try something truly authentic and yummy. Also, most things are labeled too, so I can try it, remember it, and order it in the future. This is my favourite place in this area they have have great combination of dishes, and it has rich flavor and delicious , specially there weekly buffet is really great and number of varities. I also buy 1 get free biryani after 9 pm on Mon to Fri. The owners have keen eye on the customers and serve you with water or refills as needed. Their Masala dosa nights on Monday are fabulous and lately they have added panipuri and chat items to the unlimited dosa nights. I always wanted to have exclusive panipuri stalls , some places you get to have 8 puri for $ 5.99 and some are overprized are the taste is horrible. Athidhi has special pani puri and the pani(water) is very flavoured and yamee. I would recommend anybody reading should go and try something atleast once. We are kind of regulars here. Have been here for almost 15 times in last couple of months. MASALA MIRCHI BAJJI is a must try here. The UNLIMITED DOSA SPREAD is amazing with unlimited and variety dosa and chaat options. Panipuri matches regular Indian taste.You have varied options for both non vegetarian and vegetarian lovers. Athidhi chicken biryani, apollo fish, Gobi manchurian biryani are some of the dishes which one should never miss. The buffet spread in the afternoon was fantastic. I have been to many Indian places in and around my area, but never found a place which presents similar palette to Indian cuisine. My family and I came here to try this place out. We had been to Minerva but didn't try out ATHIDHI- the difference is massive improvement. ATHIDHI had great service and a wonderful owner tending to us. We went for the weekend buffet (13.99 + tax), a little pricey compared to other buffets in the area but the food was a little higher quality, in my opinion. I'd definitely recommend the food for catering or something. The buffet itself had an abundance of choices to pick from. A few were: Andra Chicken Curry, Butter Chicken, Idli,Sambar, Chicken/lamb/veg biryani, lamb curry, variety type of dal, fresh naan to your table, fresh dosas to your table, and rava laddu. I had the fruit custard for dessert and was so good that I got it twice! One of the worst Indian restaurants I have been to and will never go again. I went with my family recently. As soon as we entered we saw the whole place empty. The female cashier/server there was constantly looking at her phone and if we needed something, had to call for her attention. The male servers looked like they had just come from the gym in scruffy, crumpled T shirts! They wear gloves.clean tables and serve, like nose with same gloves. Disgusting. Defiantly passes germs. No water glasses here, all the tables had some water bottles set on them. No cold/warm water. I mentioned that I wanted the food mild and asked if they could do that. Yes, I was told. I took my family out for lunch today. We had the grand buffet lunch. First of all, the staff was very friendly and courteous. The buffet menu had great selection of Veg and Non-Veg options. I really enjoyed the Chicken Biriyani and Fish curry. My daughter enjoyed the Dosa and Idli. Overall the food quality, customer service and value for the buffet price were excellent. WORST INDIAN FOOD Our family ate lunch at Athidhi restaurant...ABSOLUTELY the WORST tasting Indian food. What a WASTE of money. While paying, when we told waiter/owner/manager, he smirked and retorted rudely: "everyone has an opinion"--no regret whatsoever. Saw Cockroach in the buffet. Yucks. The curries were cold, tasteless, only Matar Paneer was any good. So were Papad & Naans were cold, palak paneer had uncooked palak, even the normal MOST basic potato curry was tasteless. Pakoras had NO taste. Even first timer would make better tasting food. They ought to send their cooks to India for training. Virginian's---go to other Indian restaurants and taste what food should taste. The credit card machine stopped in between so I asked him why this happened. He looked at it and said-- "No Tip !!!" and I was thinking 'this guy has guts...he still expects a tip. And for what ?? This is buffett lunch. The owners told us they rescued this place, their choice of the verb was apt for the dump that was there before. The decor and layout is modern but obviously the main star is the fare, delectable. We did only go for the Friday buffet for a family of four but just based on that we will be returning. Buffets are is normally middle of the pack to sustain the cost, but this was almost a -la-carte standard. The chicken tandoor platter was unique in its variety, apart from being moist good quality meat.The biriyani was brimming with a full on spice flavor, almost nawabi in its profile. Loved the batura was both crisp and sour, very well paired with punjabi chole. Idli was so-so though the dosa batter was fermented so tasted good at the table. Sambhar was well made, most of the spices in the remaining gravies seem house ground and from scratch. We did not feel full and over the top while walking to the parking lot, which is a great sign. The only recommendation would be to add a partner to the semiya payasam and to make the panner dish more appetizing, else an easy grand slam home run for an Indian cuisine. read more

We went for the lunch buffet today, which was tasty and had a pretty good selection, with about 8-10 each vegetarian and meat dishes, plus chutneys and the like. Came for the buffet and the food was good. Ended up taking to-go from the buffet instead of eating in and paid WAYYYY MORE than I would've in house. The staff gave me a small sized to go carton which I filled with food (the equivalent of 1 or 1/2 plates.) When I went to check out, he weighed the plate and charged by weight. Now I dont go to buffets often and certainly dont usually take to go but I was shocked! I expected the amount of food to be the same price as sitting in for the buffet, however, I ended up spending substantially more. I feel like that should have been explained when they gave the container. I could sit in the buffet for 2 hours and have 4 plates worth of food but taking to go I'm charged at a higher rate? Very good lunch buffet and friendly staff. Would have liked a couple more protein options and labels on the buffet for those like me who are not as familiar with Indian cuisine. Gentlemen, who may have been owner was very helpful in answering my questions (rice/lentil steamed buns and various chutney's). Proteins were are nicely seasoned and well cooked. Bone in chicken was especially tasty and not dried out like many other Indian buffets. Like the bottles of water provided at the table. The worst possible food. I took some bite and couldn't eat it. I ordered chicken tikka Marsala and vegetable biyanni. Both were hard to eat. It wasn't the spice, it tasted old as if they had it out too long. I hate leaving bad reviews but I left disappointed because the young waiter chose to offer no suggestions to make it right. They charged us the full price and instead of actin a fool, I paid and left dissatisfied. Skip this place. Even the Somosa tasted like was straight from the box. Nasty !!!! I found a wonderful new Indian restaurant in Chantilly, Athidhi. Very quick to attend to me, the staff was friendly and attentive. A bit of a wait on the main course was offset by the staff offering me snacks. And the wait was worth it. I went with my old standby, Chicken Tikka Masala, and it did not disappoint. A plentiful portion assured I'll enjoy this meal tomorrow night. As requested the souse was mild and flavorful. The onions and peppers provided sweet accents. After we received the confirmation, we drove to the location for pickup, however, when we got there, the store is closed. We tried calling them, the phoneline said it's not available and that the line is disconnected. We were really confused. The website and yelp said they are opened for pick up at 11:30 AM. Since no one was answering our call, we decided to get something else. The additional star was for them calling me back at 5pm, asking if I still want the order, I said, please cancel it b/c that was lunch.
