Shahi Paneer, Butter Chicken, Garlic Naan Bread, Rice

Bombay Cafe is a little hidden gem for Indian food. I got a takeout order and I was impressed with the flavorfulness of both dishes. The service was very quick and seamless. I can now rest assured that I made a good decision on where to go for Indian food... Butter chicken-- Very mild and buttery taste with a slight kick of spices. Pairs really well with Raita and the jasmine rice. I recommend this dish and it was a hit for the family. Shahi paneer-- Excellent vegetarian dish with chunks of soft paneer in a tomatoe based shahi paneer sauce. I absolutely love this dish and thought they did a great job with the paneer consistency and shahi sauce flavor. Garlic naan and Samosa--Packed with garlic and great add on to the prior dishes. I recommend not getting this take out or at least toasting it more since it wasn't crunchy upon arrival. The samosa was everything you'd expect a good samosa to taste like. Not too dry either. Overall, great place. I would order from here again.

Simply put - this place is a fill in the blank when you are left with no choices. Food looks good but tastes very mediocre. The three dishes i got for carry out turned out to be just average. Only thing i like about this place are the samosas and quick service. Give it a shot when u run out of other choices.

Hands down best fresh samosas in the town. I have been coming to this place for long time and love their fresh piping hot samosas. Their tea is freshly made too and is not the one from machine. Their thali is good for the price. For around $9 you get two sabji, naan, rice and a sweet which is a steal.

Bombay Cafe is such a hidden restaurant in Fairfax! There were so many different options of curry to choose from, along with different desserts and sides that you can choose. I did the 'pick 2' which was around $10 and comes with rice, naan, and a dessert; I got the butter chicken and dal makhani which were pretty good, but the amount of curry to the rice/naan didn't really match up well. I wish their curry portions were a bit bigger. Other than that, it's a super homey restaurant, and the service was good!

The cafe itself is pretty run down and not maintained very well. It is a bit offputting when going through the cafiteria waiting line and sitting at uncleaned tables. The pictures of the food on the wall looked amazing so I choose one of the items to get from that and my friend had goat with curry. Everything purchased here is seperate so make sure to get rice or Nann if that is your jam. The somosa are on a hand written note saying that they are made to order so please be patient with the wait, it will be worth it (or something along those lines). I was excited for it. But my somosa came out cold and it def was not made to order but rather probably more along the lines of being under a faulty warming light.

After four years away, it was wonderful to return and see the buffet back. The selection of savory dishes is impressive, complemented by desserts and drinks--including an excellent mango lassi. This is a family-owned restaurant that takes great pride in both food and hospitality. Pricing is very reasonable for the quality offered. Highly recommended, and don't miss their sister restaurant in Falls Church, Mumbai Central, which upholds the same exceptional standards.

The Butter Chicken also got rave reviews from my husband, who went with another friend. It is quiet, has some outdoor seating, the service is nearly fine-dining levels, and the food is delicious. The interior is modern and elegant, with dim, romantic lighting and fancy LED lamps at each table. Our server got our orders pretty quickly and food was out shortly. BUTTER CHICKEN - 22 The sauce was sweeter than I'd prefer, like they added sugar to the tomato sauce. It didn't taste as buttery or savory as I expected, which I can forgive, but the artificial sweetness to it ruined it for me personally. SAAG - 18 +2 for chicken We mistakenly assumed that if we got the chicken, it would include both paneer and chicken. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case which was our fault. From this experience, I now know that saag and paneer is a much better combination and I'm unlikely to divert from it. The chicken was bland, and the spinach base had a slightly unpleasant spinach flavor that I didn't like. Maybe it's because they didn't blanch the spinach after boiling, which explains the astringent taste and green-brown color. LAMB BIRYANI - 24 I think this was okay, but unfortunately I didn't have much of it because there was a lot of cilantro mixed in. I can't comment too much. One of my friends requested hot water, and the server made multiple odd comments towards her request which wasn't appreciated. Overall, unlikely to return since the food didn't match our preferences and it's a bit of a drive to get to.

A few things really stood out: The chana masala that comes with the samosas is OUTSTANDING. The fact that the samosas automatically come with chana masala is exceptional. The samosas themselves are huge, the dough is delicious, and the filling has so much flavor. Definitely not an afterthought here. And can we talk about the rice?! They give you a HUGE serving of rice with your curry. So many Indian restaurants charge extra for rice with a curry, and that annoys me to no end. Just build the rice into the price of the curry! Okay, rant over, because this place gets it right. The shrimp biryani gets an A+++. What impressed me most was that it didn't taste like they used one generic biryani base and tossed shrimp in after the order came in. It was obvious the shrimp had actually been cooked with the biryani, so the flavor was incorporated throughout. And they were NOT skimpy with the shrimp...there were shrimp throughout the entire dish. The people here are just as impressive as the food. Everyone is genuinely customer-centric, constantly checking in without being overbearing, and you can tell they actually care whether you're enjoying your meal. Honestly, everything we've tried has been good, hence us coming back the very next night! And DO NOT skip dessert. Get the gulab jamun with rose ice cream. It's the perfect way to end the meal on a sweet note -- pun absolutely intended. Two nights in a row and I'd still come back tomorrow.

However, our most recent takeout delivery order was a significant disappointment. In all our previous orders, the samosa chaat was packed in a black plastic container with the dry and wet components separated, allowing you to combine them right before eating so the texture remains fresh and crisp. This time, we ordered two portions, and both arrived completely pre-mixed in round soup containers. As a result, the dish was soft, mushy, and soggy. Additionally, it contained a whole star anise and a bay leaf--ingredients we have never encountered in this dish before. I called the restaurant to ask if the recipe or packaging protocol had changed. The staff member stated the recipe had not changed and that the packaging issue "shouldn't be," adding that they would check with the staff. I mentioned that I had taken a photo of the food and offered to share them, but the offer was not taken up. When I expressed hesitation about ordering this dish again due to the lack of consistency, I was told the person was too busy to continue the conversation. They ended the call without taking my name, contact details, or photos to follow up. The flavor was tolerable, but the texture and lack of quality control were disappointing, and the customer service did not resolve the concern. Given that other restaurants in the area serve samosa chaat, we will likely be ordering elsewhere moving forward.
