Chicken Schnitzel Bowl
Christian Z.

Just give me and my wife a reason and the answer is always yes, want to go to Duzan? Whether your a meat lover or vegetarian the food will not disappoint. My wife loves their chicken schnitzel. The chicken is fried to perfect with its crispy interior and soft interior. I went for the falafel, eggplant, on a heaping serving of couscous couscous. There is a great balance of salad and homemade pickles. Can't mention the dipping and the garlic pita thay comes with the order. Dont forget their splendid pink sauce (duzan sauce) its goes with everything!

Beef and Lamb Shawarma Bowl with Hummus and Fries

I can't believe I didn't update my review for DUZAN. It's amazing and I've been going here for years now. The chicken schnitzel remains my go to with the fries and the salad and white and duzan sauce. Can't go wrong. The ful medames took me entirely by surprise because it was arguably the best I've tried. Super flavorful and complex flavors and amazing portion size with fluffy warm bread on the side. A perfect, healthy lunch. I still love their hummus and I hate all other hummus I've tried. Also they've been under construction for literally years. They're supposedly supposed to finish in 2025 but we got two months left and nothing looks ready yet so there's that. They used to take ages to prepare food (over 20-25 min) but they've sped up a lot since.

Falafel platter with hummus and couscous

So this place has been under construction for as long as I can remember probably before Covid, they opened a little place next-door, the food used to be fantastic. Lots of salads all kinds of pickled items really good, however, now they load you up with nothing the falafel bowls were a spicy mess, very dry. The entire dish had no flavor. How do you mess up hummus? Won't be coming back.

Combo platter

Ordered the combo platter! The beef kebab was probably my favorite. Loved the portion and variety (salad, humus, rice). Meats were well flavored but on the dry side. Pita with the garlic aioli was fire!! The side dipping sauces were bomb! Would go back. Current under construction so there a few outdoor tables to sit at outside and like 4 seats indoors.

Chicken schwarma wrap

I saw this spot on IG via a foodie influencer (which I am growing more wary of) and decided to come try this for myself. I've been here twice now and I will say the quality has been consistent. It's an easy grab for a quick bite to eat, you order at the counter and then they call once your order is ready. There's a good amount of seating consisting of benches and tables despite it being under constriction the first time I went, not sure if they have plans to expand. I've had the chicken schwarma wrap, platters, hummus and falafels - everything was made fresh and delicious. You can also customize with any sauce you'd like, they have them available at the tables for your convenience. Overall, I feel like this is a great go to spot when you don't know what to eat in Astoria or are craving Mediterranean food.

HOLY CRAP how did I not know about this!? If this were closer it'd be a go-to spot! Like, I could consider doing delivery for this and I NEVER do delivery. Ample portion size - easily two days worth for the mix shawarma hummus is GOOD, and they put the sauces on the side for controlled dipping (read: dunking). You'd never realize this place is IT from how it looks on the outside. A shame they're far away from the thoroughfare.

Kafta Kabab Bowl with fries and hummus
Mohima M.

The food here has consistently been delicious! The kababs are made fresh to order and have a nice char grilled flavor, the meat was tender, the salad was nice especially with the pickles and I love the couscous here! The fries were also super crispy. The service was great, the staff was so kind and conveyed the idea that they genuinely cared about the experience of their customers! It was a relaxed atmosphere with a good amount of seating, casual dining with good food i will definitely be coming back

Took a while to get my order of chicken kabob on pita. It was not the typical round pita but more of a square pocket pita (see picture). As for the taste, it was good and juicy and not dry at all. It did the trick for a first time visit. There were a lot of business at the 2:30p time. Many appeared to be regulars as well as first timers like me. They ran out of beef and lamb so I downgraded them due to options. The ladies taking the orders and packing them were very friendly and efficient.

Beef shawarma plate

Yummy! Got the beef shawarma plate for lunch with hummus and fries as the sides. If you dine in, you don't need to choose only one sauce! They give three sauce bottles for you to use. Loved the pita that it came with as well. Next time, I'd get the salad as a side instead of the fries! Think it would freshen up the meal more. Service was quick and simple.

Eats under $15 Truly a Middle Eastern gem. You can get things like shawarma, falafel, mixed grill with great sides such as their hand cut fries, hummus, couscous, and pickled veggies. Duzan makes everything fresh to order!! The food is seasoned so well and has a tender bite. Make sure to finish it off with their sauces. We got white sauce, Duzan sauce, and harissa sauce. Quality ingredients, generous portions, and a price tag that won't break the bank...a New Yorkers dream come true! Highly recommend this place!!

Sabich Bowl with hummus and salad
Marina S.

The food here is heavenly! Some of the best Mediterranean food I've had. The food is very fresh and flavorful. I've only gotten takeout here but it's great every time. Most recently I had the Sabich bowl (eggplant) and it was delicious. We also got the baba ganoush, which has a unique but delightful flavor. I love their pita!

The chicken shawarma platter with hummus and salad is SO DELICIOUS THAT I DAYDREAM ABOUT IT!!! It is healthy, flavorful, and so, so good. It comes with pickles, pita, and delicious garlic sauce. I'm told that I'm a harsh food critic but this place is a 10/5!!!! Absolutely amazing! Friendly employees, and nice ambiance. They have a sit in area.

Ask the Community - Duzan

Is anything here gluten free?

No, they don't have anything on the menu that's gluten free.

Is their pita bread homemade?

Are they open for dine in?

I think so, I don't live in the area but I've been there during COVID

Has Duzan acquired the place next door? Hoping for an expansion in the (hopefully not so distant) dining option, as the current spot is slightly small. 🙌🏻

3 years later still under construction

Are all the meats hand-slaughtered halal?

All meats are certified Halal.

What's the difference between all of the different hummus'?

The difference is the toppings. They all start with the same (hummus) base, but different toppings.

The fish is grilled to perfection and simply served with a side of either grilled veggie, yummy pilaf rice or French fries. The octopus stew is the most buttery and tender octopus you'll ever have and who can not forget their kabob selections whether you do the chicken or lamb! Stick with the mix grill plate for both though so you get to try a selection of them all. Last night was no different and everything tasted fantastic. We started by eviscerating the delicious bread with all the dips from Mixed Appetizer Platter and Tarama Salad. We could have eaten a whole meal of just this stuff. Group favorites were the Eggplant and Tarama Salad. Then came the next round of appetizers. We ordered two Octopus Salad, which was a group favorite. Calf Liver was flavorful, while the Fried Calamari was super tender. Pan Fried Anchovies were good, but a bit fishy for some. For entrees, we got two whole fish, Bronzino and St. Peter's Fish. Both were grilled perfectly, tender and moist. Lastly, we had the Fried Red Mullet, which were crispy and flaky. As for dessert, we shared two orders of their awesome Knuefe. The texture of the phyllo dough is fried perfectly, and it wasn't over the top sweet, just the right amount. All in all, a fantastic meal with good friends that was delicious and relatively healthy. What more can you really ask for? Isn't this one of the biggest joys of life?

Came with some friends for lunch. We all got various combinations of the mixed plate and an order of fried calamari. The calamari was lightly breaded in a flaky batter that brought out the flavors of the squid. Cooked to perfection it was tender, not chewy. As for the mixed platters, we had lamb gyro and the souvlakis as well as the lemon potatoes and fries. The lemon potatoes were perfectly seasoned and had a nice tartness to each bite. The lamb gyro was tender. The chicken souvlaki being moist and flavorful is the barometer for the level of detail that goes into every plate served.
