It was quite a lovely Autumn day where a group of about 10 people arranged out mats in a large circle on her property. It was very invigorating doing the poses and meditation in the brisk clean air. But more than that it was about connection to all the people and specifically Elana's professional leadership in making people feel accepted, appreciated and cared for. The 5 hours of that afternoon flew by and at the end of the day I was enriched and inspired. These kinds of gatherings are far too few for me and I would advocate to have more of them in my life.

This place is so near and dear to my heart!! The yoga is amazing. I love the unpredictability of…read moretaking the vinyasa classes. I also really love the pose variation and the sometimes more stretchy liquidy feel of the flows. Mara is without a doubt the best instructor I've gotten to practice with; her cues are so clear and make you engage muscles/soften things you didn't even notice, and her guidance is so gentle and suggestive that it isn't as "now this now this now this" as sometimes classes can feel. I look forward to her class all week I almost feel myself chilllllll out as I walk in on Sundays. Another really important thing for me is that NP Rock is most welcoming, non-elitist, accepting yoga community and it's so purposeful that it makes me want to contribute to the feeling, too. The no judgement really allows me to just show up and focus on myself and my own practice. The energy of this place is so genuine and special and I can't recommend it enough. Newbies experts and anyone and everyone in between, NP Yoga is your spot!!!

And most important (for me :) the vibe here is open and genuine, and Mara is so full of knowledge. With yoga becoming more and more popular these days, teachings can get diluted, but not the case here. It's the real deal! Ever since I met Mara she has show me what it means to teach from the heart. She sees her students, she cares deeply, and she gives all of herself to this practice. This place is truly a gem (an affordable one!) Will for sure be back.

Everybody is welcome; you don't have to be skinny and dressed in Lululemon to feel comfortable here. Roberta's Hot 26 classes are challenging but very supportive; I adore her, and I'm completely addicted. MaryRose will make every muscle in your body burn, and you'll feel like a superhero when you survive her class. Tara is the velvet hammer, and Marilyn does a great job of explaining the poses. (I'd recommend Marilyn's class if you're new to hot yoga, although she also challenges experienced yogis.) Mary plays the best music; if you want to jam out during your asana practice, go to her Friday night class. I honestly couldn't love this place more. I have nothing negative to say. Show up early to get a parking spot, because classes are often packed, for good reason.

I was in serious need of cleansing after so much food & wine! I went to the 8am class on a Sunday morning. I got there early to find a large studio. It was probably the biggest Bikram Yoga studio I've been to. I've been to 2 studios in Michigan, and 1 in St. Augustine, FL. The actual room where we practice is small and fairly standard, but they had sizeable changing rooms for both men & women. They also seemed to have a room for instructors. As I was trying to figure out where the women's room was (since the instructor was elsewhere), I stumbled upon what looked like a bed and area for instructors to stay. Maybe its for inbetween classes? I don't know! It was a nice surprise to find out that on your first visit at Bikram Yoga Danbury, your mat & towel rental is free, a savings of $3. The drop-in class rate is $22, which is $7 more than my local Bikram Yoga studios. These are individually owned, so they choose their rate. The packages were also more expensive, and not as many classes are offered. Obviously this is based on demand, which I found surprising that the 2 Michigan studios have more than double the classes. The instructor was very nice, and good at instruction/guidance. I thought it was odd that she discouraged drinking water in between postures after the Eagle pose like every other instructor allows. She said it's a distraction & we should all be hydrated already if we're drinking the amount of water we should be drinking. So, basically it's almost pointless to bring in water. She called me out for drinking water (not by name though), and asked that we all wait until the final posture. It was a good class & I'm so glad I went. If you've been thinking of trying Bikram Yoga, go for it! Give yourself time to adjust, be patient with yourself and take advantage of the new student package. It takes at least 30 days to get the hang of it. It's good for you!
