Was condescending and told me how new her type of practice would be new (despite being a long time yogi and attending acupuncture - the meridian flow was initially of interest but she did not ask just made assumptions). Too many cues for her subjective versions of Standard asana, and yet was condescending and corrective as if there on right way to do yoga. Very clear that she has her following and calling out people as if they are doing things "wrong" because they don't put their palms up, down, or sideways is the antithesis of yoga. Her over cued practice was distracting - long warm up with minimal sequence for a flow not dynamic. As a practitioner of over 20 years, I've taken classes with amazing, knowledgeable teachers and have learned to trust myself. l, and recovering from injury while trying to find grounding is what I need and did not find this a safe space to practice. A real range of people show up to practice and all feel comfortable and accommodated. The focus is on asana practice, mostly slowish flow vinyasa. Usually there is a theme to the month or week, but requests for areas to work on are also welcome. Practicing here was a refreshing change from the typical "commercial" studio. Gina taught a unique, wonderful flow targeting all the appropriate muscles for the poses. I'm a yoga teacher myself and tend to get caught up in the details of the teachings when I practice, however, here it was easier to just let go, stay mindful and sink into the practice as a student. We arrived exactly as brunch was being served, and within minutes we were being ushered into a circle of hand-holding, chanting practitioners saying blessings over the food. My daughter looked like she might run for the hills, but we opened our minds and found a truly meditative and even enlightening environment tucked away in a quiet corner of the Catskills. For the uninitiated, some tips: --we brought some healthy snacks, like fruit and nuts, and they were very welcome in between the two meals served --beware: after about 8 minutes, sitting crosslegged on the floor with a cushion under your behind becomes its own special form of torture; consider a seat on the bench along the wall, or prepare for your mind, body and spirit to be consumed by the pain you are in --while many different and delicious varieties of tea are served throughout the day, there is no coffee provided; if you need your morning caffeine to prevent a headache, best to bring instant and a mug - there is a hot water pot provided in the room --don't pack anything other than your most comfortable sweatpants, yoga pants, cozy socks, etc. - even jeans look out of place here --prepare to feel a little self-conscious as you try something new, and to be rewarded for it!

She is not overbearing or cruel but she's not easy on us, either. She helps explain the exercises and moves us a long at a pace we can handle but still challenges us. We learn the progressive nature of the exercises (one prepares for the next) and how to properly feel the exercise and do it correctly. The facility is clean, well-lit, warm and inviting. The staff are all very friendly and responsive. There are two or three changing booths and a bathroom. Filtered water is available to drink. They have flexible hours that fit even our weird schedule. I have never taken Pilates before but here I have learned tower, mat and reformer exercises. The instructors are all trained and certified in power Pilates. They have instruction classes for those wishing to be certified as instructors. I don't know much about the history or technique of Pilates, but I know that this is a great place to go and get started for anyone like me who is hesitant and doesn't like the workout crowd.
