What went well? Everything. Public service notice; they are open Friday through Sunday only. We were there on a Thursday and we walked in and they said oh we're sorry we're closed. We turned to leave. I said oh we came up here specifically for my husband's birthday from Sacramento. The chef came running out and said" I'll make you lunch for your birthday, what do you want? The whole visit was like this. From Winston, the young man inside to everybody else it was such an amazing experience. I highly recommend the burger. The fries are so incredible. There is food group unto themselves. My husband loved his burrito (he added ground chicken). Well, it's not exactly around the corner, it more than makes up for the drive. It was a gorgeous day for the drive too. We need more kindness like this.

We had a great time at this beautiful hôtel! The grounds are gorgeous and well maintained. The restaurant, bar and staff were all excellent! Thank you for a special stay!

    Perfectly prepared garlic fries...so yummy!

Another spectacular lunch at the Dutch Flat Hotel Restaurant. Our fabulous server Laura Lee recommended the seared wild-caught ahi on a bed of arugula with a soy-ginger vinaigrette, and she was spot on...the dish was beyond delicious. The garlic fries were the best we've ever tasted...crispy, not greasy and with the perfect amount of garlic. The Gold Diggers Pan Potstickers, as always, were amazing. Chef Jami deserves a Michelin Star for her remarkable talents!

What a charming, historical, warm and welcoming place! Leif and Wendy were so nice and gave us a little tour of the hotel.

Amazing little hidden gem! Food was outta this world! My son won't eat anything and he ate this huge burrito! Highly highly recommend! The old world charm will knock your socks off. Family owned and operated! Order the chicken piccata

    Thanks Lee!

Took a short roadtrip with Thom to Dutch Flat yesterday. Went up for the annual Rummage Sale. Weve been hearing good things about the Dutch Flat Hotel with new owners who have brought the bar back to life. Great ambience in this 1852 hotel saloon. Adding a simple bar fare menu, nice wine list, plenty of beer on tap and then some. Lee and his wife have added a nice stop while discovering the Dutch Flat area. Great day trip!

The whole experience was amazing! I truly recommend this place. Great food, great owner and staff, and great historic experience!

We had contacted them ahead of time about a late check-in, and when we arrived, they had already made our keys and left them under the mat for us, which was convenient. They were extremely nice and friendly! Our room was all the way at the bottom of a rickety little boardwalk and down some old, shaky stairs. Which is okay, but made me wonder how the rooms were as clearly there had been no maintenance done on the outside of this lodge... As we walked down, we noticed that pretty much everyone had their windows open, and we could see directly into their rooms with people lying on their beds. Once we got into our room, we understood why...it was around 100 degrees inside! There was no air conditioning, just two fans running at full speed with the window open, and it was still unbearably hot. We could barely tolerate it. The carpet throughout the room was extremely sticky, to the point that I wouldn't even take my shoes off. The shower in the morning also wasn't very clean and was generally pretty gross...wore my flip flops in... I think this place could actually be decent with a few improvements. Replacing the old, sticky carpet with hardwood or another easy-to-clean flooring, giving the rooms a thorough cleaning, and adding air conditioning or even a mini-split...would make a huge difference. Unfortunately, as it is now, I wouldn't recommend staying here.

The location was fantastic--right in the heart of town, with plenty of local restaurants, charming shops, and boutiques all within walking distance. We stayed in a king room with an incredibly comfortable bed and a cute little courtyard just outside our room, which was such a nice touch. The room had everything we needed, including fresh-ground coffee to brew--not the typical packaged hotel coffee--which we really appreciated. And the complimentary breakfast was amazing! Fresh-made omelets with real eggs and your choice of delicious ingredients like bacon and fresh vegetables, along with an impressive selection of fresh fruit including bananas, kiwi, and grapefruit. There were also plenty of breads, oats, cereals, and other breakfast choices. We were only able to stay for one night, but we honestly wished we could have stayed longer. The Courtyard Suites was comfortable, welcoming, conveniently located, and exceeded our expectations. This has been my worst experience with Best Western and I stay at them regularly for business. I have a shower at home so when I travel, I ONLY book hotels with hot tubs and a bathtub in the room. This BW had neither or at least could not accommodate. As disappointing as that was, no big deal. However, I did arrive a day early to finish my work in the business center like I have many times before. To my disappointment, the only computer they had was non-operational. The memory was so full it could not even open a web browser. I tried for an hour to make it work. At this point my dismay was obvious, and rather than suggest an alternative computer or a place that I could finish my work. The manager offered to cancel my reservation without charge but I declined. Things continued to go downhill from there... from foreign hairs in my shower to old coffee left in the machine. The pool being filthy with bugs inside and out of it. My friend skimmed the entire pool before we used it. I also got the eye roll when I asked for pool towels, and when I asked if they wanted me to leave them in my room or prefer the bin near the pool, the man at the front desk said they were not even aware there was a towel bin in the pool area. While we were swimming, a woman kept watching us from her window with distaste and talking to herself or on the phone. After swimming, that same woman banged on our floor (her ceiling) then called the front desk for a noise complaint when my nephew (who is five) fell off the bed and started crying. When they left, I went to the front desk to talk about it and the same guy refused to get up from his chair. He asked if I was checking in even though we had multiple conversations and when I said no, he asked what I needed.. while staying seated behind the wall. I told him I came to talk to him but never mind and went back to my room. He was too lazy to even stand at the desk to greet customers, let alone smile or have any personability. So far all the staff I have spoken to or observed are either ignorant or incompetent. There is of course more but this review too long already. The hotel is new so the decore and furniture is still nice but it's just not enough to come back. If you're staying in Colfax, save yourself the disappointment and go to Best Western in Auburn. To the owner(s), EVALUATE YOUR STAFF AND HIRE PEOPLE WITH PERSONALITY AND EXPERIENCE or your business will continue to disappoint and destroy the brand. You may be independently owned but you should still uphold the BW standards. **Update** It's been three days now. I have yet to receive any room service, not even fresh towels, and the trash cans are full. The power has also been off for a couple hours now and the back up generator is not working. My room is pitch back. On a brighter note, I finally met a member of staff that was good at their job and handled a tough situation with courtesy and professionalism. Savannah is delightful, knowledgeable, and experienced. They need to hire more like her.

However, the detachment of the employees and the seeming inability to connect with guests is a little offputting for the price. The front desk staff rarely make eye contact and don't smile at all, but get the job done. Perhaps this is true to historic character? Our room had two double beds and was surprisingly large. We visited during the heat of the summer, but the air conditioning worked well and we were comfortable when in our room and throughout the hotel. However, there is no mirror in the bedroom - only the bathroom mirror and there is very little counter space, only the nightstand in the room. No counter space in the bathroom, either. If you would like ice in your room. You must go down to the bar and request it from one of the bartenders when the bar is open. Not very convenient. The hotel has wonderful historic charm with various sitting areas both inside and out. Along with the jurors c charm comes no elevators, so bear that in mind when packing. The parking lot behind the hotel enters on the second level, which can be helpful when checking in. I don't think we will stay here again, particularly for the price, but it was a fun experience for the "historical" setting.

It's clean and central to many locations in town. The chief complaints I have are these: 1. The walls of the hotel are paper-thin. You can hear *everything* going on outside your door and the rooms next to yours. 2. There are no TVs in any of the rooms. For #1, nothing to be done about it but go in forewarned. For #2, not knowing that was totally our fault. The TV situation is listed on their website. But TVs are such a standard item, who thinks to look for that note..? :P Now. The best part of our hotel stay was Ulina. She was the front desk rep when we got there. She was extremely friendly and very helpful in getting us settled in.
