I have been driving past this spot for 2 years now and decided to pop in to give them a try. Im glad I did. Great lil lunch spot and even looks fun for a after work happy hour. I tried the soup/sandwich option and it was super tasty. I got a side of fries and it was HUGE. Im forgetting what soup I got but I remember it being very good. I was after the clam chowder but the soup of the day got me. I got one of the grilled Ruben for my sandwich and it was also tasty. Not the leanest meat in town but it was a great lunch over all. The ladies that served the place worked well as a team and seamed to know many locals. The vibe was really good and felt like a really fun place to go wit friends. I've gone to this restaurant 4 times in the past six weeks and every time after the initial, the prices mysteriously increase. I noticed that the server brought over a credit card receipt of the balance, total, & tax; she did not provide an itemized copy of what I was being charged for. I paid $18 for fish & chips, $14 for a kettle one dirty martini, & $14. for escargot; albeit on their "Costa Mesa" location website the price for the fish & chips is one dollar less & $2. less for the escargot, the martini was also $3 less than the initial visit. I requested an itemized receipt before leaving and decided to look at their online menu once I got home because of the prices I'd paid in the past visits. When I phoned them the person who answered the phone keep insisting that I must be looking at a different website, so I read from the site I had in front of me 'verbatim' that identified the location as Costa Mesa, then she said I am very busy what do you want me to do. I hung up because clearly she knew that the prices were different than what they're advertising & she knew that even if their prices had changed since my first visit their patrons deserve to be informed prior to ordering from the menu if their prices had increased. Wanted to do some Karaoke. Was going to come for 30 mins and stayed 3 hours! I havent laughed that hard in so long. I feel like most people singing were waiting for simon cowell to walk in and sweep them up. Normally at karaoke you get 1 or 2 characters but at this place there was like 20 character. It is a bonus when i guy is running around dressed as nacho Libre. If i am ever back in town i will definitely go back to karaoke. Didnt try the food, came later. read more

Horrible customer service. We had the most miserable and opinionated server/bartender. I'm assuming she is also the lady I talked to on the phone earlier in the day. When I called to ask a simple question, she came up with every little excuse to basically push us away from coming in, which makes no sense at all, because we're paying customers, but now we will no longer be customers. read more

Will not be coming back. It was wonderful up until I had a problem with my order. After that, their attitudes changed. The waitress & host both stop coming to our table. No one bothered to ask me if I wanted to order something else. Fiancé believed someone would come back to help us and after 5 minutes walked to get a menu himself. 2 seconds later older blonde host walked up to table and said "I'll fill your water up" and grabbed my glass. The menu was sitting right in front of her and she still did not ask if I wanted to order anything. So I shared my fiancé's meal in disbelief. Sat 10 minutes with empty plates. Had to flag them down for the check. Waitress tended to the table next to us & walked the other way to avoid helping us & the blonde host walked up, tapped the redeem button on Groupon and walked away. No words! That's not the end! We still had to pay the balance from our Groupon and waited 5 more minutes. After no one came we stood for a 3 minutes looking dumb until we put the check in the air. Blonde host rudely took the receipt and walked off saying something about a fee. I told my fiancé to see what she said and she would not turn around while he was talking to her. A pretty cool divey Irish pub. They have a lot of food that they serve. But it's pretty much bar food. However they do have big salads. Which is good for anyone that's craving something healthier. Went for karaoke on a Friday and it was fun. Got to sing a couple times. And good vibes from the other bar goers Good selection of beer on tap. I got a black and tan. And they have a good happy hour that goes until 8! Longer than any happy hour I know! They however only have one bathroom for each sex and it's only one person at a time. Tucked in a business park area this was a great little spot. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon to catch some college football games. There was a live band and lots of TVs to watch the games. During happy hour they have food and drink specials. I had the garlic shrimp skewers and they were delicious. Lots of flavor and not overcooked! Came in to watch the band "Midnight" which was so awesome. Restaurant not a busy as I would think for a Friday but it was nice. We ordered the nachos which were fantastic!! The server was super sweet but she seemed to be the only one there so we definitely had to wait some time to order more drinks. But overall not bad. This review is long overdue considering the amount of time I spend here. Sometimes I wonder why I don't just setup my paycheck direct deposit to go straight to Durty's bank account. I half-joke, but when you frequent an establishment enough times in a given week that the entire bar staff knows everyone in your post-work drinking group by name, you have to step back and reevaluate your life for a minute. After said reevaluation, I found myself back at Nelly's with no regrets. DRINKS: Standard full bar mixing up drinks that will make your hair stand on end. No messing around here...they pour to please. They have about 10 beers on tap that consist of the standard Irish choices like Guinness, Harp, and Swithwick's along with an assortment of the more standard bottled beer like Heineken and Corona. FOOD: Average pub food that won't knock your socks off. I haven't had anything here that was terrible, but I haven't had anything that has made me want to come back here just to eat it. They have a pretty good, inexpensive happy hour food selection that includes some standard finger foods like chicken strips, quesadillas, and nachos as well as some more hearty choices like Shepherd's Pie and Fish n' Chips. SERVICE: I might be a little biased because I've come here so often that I've become friendly with all the servers and bartenders. Hence, they tend to be top-notch when it comes to getting my drinks or food. That said, when I first started coming here they made everyone feel welcome and would take opportunities to strike up conversation here and there to get to know you. The owner is really nice and likes to be there to serve and chat with patrons. ATMOSPHERE: Complete neighborhood pub. If you're going out to dance and find someone to cozy up to, this probably isn't the venue to do it at. If you're going with some friends to enjoy each other's company over some beers, this is a good place to do it. They do karaoke on Friday nights so the place livens up quite a bit compared to the normal evenings. ESTABLISHMENT: Nelly's is split into two area roughly....a bar area and a dining area. The bar area has a generous-sized bar with plenty of stools along with tables and booths for sitting. The dining area has tables and a stage where the karaoke happens, but no bar. The restrooms are nice and clean as well, which is always a nice surprise when you're walking into a bar bathroom. To be clear -- I am not a dog hater. And when I go out for an after work drink and appetizer and I see a dog (and the dog is clearly not a service dog) it truly makes me angry. On Tuesday, while sitting at Durty Nelly's in Costa Mesa, I watched as a dog went under 2 different tables where patrons were eating. At one table a gentleman even tried to push the dog away, and when the dog's owner came up to assist, he acted as if he was about to pet the dog ... I am sure that was his way of not getting into a confrontation with the disrespectful dog owner. The dog would stand up on his hind-legs and beg for food from the owners table and finally it just sat there looking around. This is clearly a California Health Code violation and the fact that the staff or management at Durty Nelly's allowed it was shameful. The final FU was when the dog owner left she, instead of walking the dog out of the back door, which was closer to her table, she matched the poor dog through all the people in the bar and through the dining area to the front door. Dogs are NOT allowed inside the law is clear when it states only dining facilities with OUTDOOR seating. The Laws are clear: * Effective January 1 of this year, dogs across the State of California are legally allowed to dine with their humans in restaurants with outdoor seating * The new state law does not override local regulations or the discretion of individual proprietors that may prohibit dogs from restaurants * For establishments that do permit canine patrons, certain rules apply, including providing a separate entrance to outdoor dining areas so that pets do not have to walk through the restaurant * Dogs brought to restaurants must be leashed, well-behaved, and on the ground vs. the furniture Until Durty Nelly's stops rude dog owners from coming into their restaurant - I will not be returning and I have started a campaign with my office and neighboring offices to follow suite. I understand you love your dog - but don't force your dog on others - they make separate areas for smokers and dogs - please be kind and respect the laws because we all have to live together. In reply to the comment made by Durty Nelly's rep.: The dog was NOT a "service dog" - it was NOT with a "veteran" - and it was NOT with a "he" - the dog was with 3-women, sitting in the corner booth. The dog was allowed to venture under patrons' tables while they were eating, jump on patrons' legs and beg for food. I know the difference between a service dog and a pet ... this dog was clearly a pet. read more

Came here on a Thursday night with coworkers for Karaoke night, and we all had a blast! They have a bunch of books with all the available song choices. After you select your song, you write it on a slip and hand to the DJ. Newcomers get to cut in the queue, but if there are no new singers, the order follows the original rotation of singers. You can tell there are a lot of regulars who attend and sing here! Crowd is a little bit older (think retirees hanging out on a weekday night), so the crowd tends to sing lots of classic songs from the 60s and 70s. This place is really fun to come to with a large group. Beer selection is vast. Beer prices are average at $7 per pint. I ordered the Snakebite, but it wasn't too good. Next time I go, I'll just stick with one of their many beers on tap. read more

We had a Goupon coupon but the waitress would not let me order the Prime Rib Special with the coupon (that was $20 for $10) and we well exceeded the coupon. We got here a little late, and they were so busy during the day so they were out of a couple items (which happened to be the two things I wanted to order), BUT the bartender, justin, was freakin amazing. He makes you feel like you're a regular as soon as you walk in the door. When I go to a bar, especially an Irish pub, that is the first thing I look for in order to return. His drinks are amazing, his personality shines and he's been here both times I've ventured to this bar. Definitely the reason I keep coming back. Strong drinks and a good crowd (even when it's slow). So this place is extremely hard to find, which is one of the reasons why.
