On the back of the paper menu they had enough Spanish vocabulary that you could order your meal in Spanish! Also they had a business card sized loyalty card, on your 10th visit you could get a free taco! Unfortunately the Al pastor taco that we wanted was sold out but the staff recommended the carnitas taco. The staff was very friendly and helpful! For a takeaway store front, the ambiance was still nice! Seeing the duo lingo owl decorating the place, including the paper the tacos were served in was very cute! Our waitress, Olivia, could not have been more exuberant and knowledgeable about the menu items. But, first let me tell you, the margaritas and palomas were delicious. This was my first time eating at Duo's. I have been wanting to go here for the longest time!! The decor is very modern and clean, I really liked it. For an appetizer, we ordered guacamole y totopos with chicharrones. The guacamole was literally ginormous. Three of us couldn't even finish it!! The chicharrones were extremely good even just plain without the guac. I got a margarita to drink. It was good, nothing special. Just a normal margarita. I got the tetela for my main dish and it was my first time having it. It was made with their homemade tortilla (yes I said homemade ‍ slay Duo) filled with sweet potato and cheese. The sauce was so delicious. This dish was different than anything I ever had before. I would definitely get it again! The quality of the food was fantastic. The service was really odd. The waitress was very nice and extremely knowledgeable about the menu, but it took her forever to come to our table to get our orders and for us to get the bill. Glad to finally make it over to this little trendy spot. It is walking distance to where I live and also across the street from my gym (but going here after working out has never been the right timing! ). I had the brisket taco and a rajas (vegetarian) taco, which had black beans and roasted chili peppers. I also got a side of tortilla chips and extra árbol (red) salsa. Both salsas that they offer have quite a kick. I liked the árbol better than the avocado crema salsa. The horchata was also a good palate cleanser to the spice. All in all, it was a good place to visit. The prices are a little high to visit too often, also without a place to comfortably eat outdoors. My family and I had been wanting to try this place, and we were thrilled to finally be able to make the trek into the city to check it out! It didn't disappoint! Everything from the service to the food was fantastic! My Mom and I ordered the Tostadas de Atun and my brother ordered the steak tartare tostadas which are only available for a limited time. We also opted for some chips, salsa, and guac which I highly recommend. They give you four different types of salsa to try! I'd also like to give a shout out to our bartender (my apologies for not recalling her name - we visited on the evening of 7/12) because she was amazing at helping my family decide what to order and offering a thorough explanation of each dish as well as the alcoholic beverages. Additionally, several other staff members made it a point to check in on us and make sure everything was to our liking. I have always said that you can tell a lot about the leadership at a business based off of the morale of the staff. I must say that Duo's is knocking it out of the park! I got tostadas de atun for an appetizer. The fish tasted super fresh, and the mix of fish, avocado, and spice was great. For my main, I chose hongos fritos estilo baja. The mushrooms were super yummy, and the chipotle mayo paired well with them. The server was super helpful and accommodating. They brought my friend hot water and helped me place a to-go order for lengua, timing it perfectly. Duo's is a must visit! There is a city parking lot behind the restaurant. Service and vibes are top notch. The chicarones were a nice salty crunch to pair with drinks. The squash blossom quesadilla was filled with veggies and the cheese was amazing. The highlight of the night was the lamb entree - served as many parts for you to compile your own tacos. The corn tortillas, tender lamb, pickled veggies, salsas, and consume were incredible. A surprising twist was the dessert tamale, who knew corn mousse was so delicious? I wasn't quite sure what to expect, I would go as far as to say I was quite skeptical eating at a restaurant owned and operated by Duo. Let's just say I was pleasantly surprised. I believe that I'm a pretty good judge of Mexican food and this place certainly met my standards. We have an array of dishes and each of them were bursting with flavor. Went here for an anniversary dinner. The atmosphere is wonderful for a special date night. The wait staff is very friendly and do their best to use their DuoLingo language skills when they explain the menu. I will say, the portion sizes are very small though the quality of the ingredients is some of the best I've had in Pittsburgh. All of their tequila they source from small distilleries in Mexico and they make their own tortillas. The interior of the restaurant is themed to match Duo as well as Mexico in a classy way. There is also outdoor seating. The menu offers prompts so customers can respond in Spanish if desired. The staff plays along nicely. I will 100% be back. read more

This place is a fun experience. We wanted to try to go see the Duolingo office and saw that there was a restaurant attached. The experience was so incredibly fun. The setting definitely gives classy bar vibes, but fun banter. The service was incredibly great and so informative! Just know that you may be dropping more than $50 based on the cost of the items. We arrived when Duo normally does their happy hour specials for the Duolingo employees on Wednesdays; we thought we wouldn't even be able to snag a table, but we were! We knew coming in that it would be expensive, but it truly was delicious. We ordered the pomelo and there was definitely a stronger hand that made the drink. I was incredibly buzzed by the end of finishing the glass! The salsa y totopos (salsa and chips) were AMAZING! The chips were from corn that was sourced from Mexico. I like breaking my chips to dip into sauces and these chips were the perfect ones to help me do it. They didn't crumble like a normal tortilla chip would and I was able to try many sauces many times with just one chip. The guacamole had a surprising spice quick that I was not expecting. The al pastor tacos were also delicious! It was loaded and so flavorful with each bite. I wish they had provided another lemon; nonetheless, it was still delicious. This is definitely a fun place to come and try out if you're a big fan of Duolingo. It's exciting to see the buzz of what they're all about and I'm impressed that they were able to make a restaurant out of a learning experience. Great tacos, but Duo's Taqueria feels more like an attraction than a regular taco spot. The meat is well seasoned and the salsa is great, but the value isn't great. The food is on the high-end cost-wise (not surprising given the location) and the portions are on the smaller end than what you'll find elsewhere. They do have rotating coupons that you can get if you do a one-question (easy) Spanish quiz, but they range in usefulness. Everything here is a learning experience, literally. The menu is in Spanish which I love because it promotes diversity and respect to other cultures. I love a great challenge and if you order 3 or more tacos you can get 10% OFF your order if you complete the Spanish word challenge....I got my 10%! It was fun and rewarding. I'd love to see more places do this. The food here is just hand down incredible. There is culture within every bite and the flavors are a burst in your mouth. This would be a 4 1/2 star review....I had lunch there today solo. The servers were nice but a little perplexed at me dining alone. Laying that aside, the food was quite good and the ambiance & decor were bougie-chic. The server explained that they have a bigger menu at night but lunch is more about tacos - keeping it simple and authentic Mexican. The portions are fairly generous, but the price point is on the high side. Guac is $15; 2 tacos are $15. You also had to order salsa - which came out in a set of 4, pineapple, arbol, salsa verde (very good), & guaca-salsa (avocado-laced salsa which had a nice spice). The guac was fresh and good, though there were too many jalapeños for my taste. The "chips" are huge 1/2 moon hunks of tacos -- something the server says is a specialty, taking something like 15 hours to create. They're thick, crunch, corny, and quite good (my husband later said they're too thick for him). You'll fill up *fast* on these! My tacos were flash-fried oyster mushrooms - perfectly cooked - paired with chipotle mayo (there was not nearly enough of this), cabbage, pico de gallo & salsa verde (there was too much of this). I have a high standard for street tacos because I'm from Texas and these hit the spot! Sadly they didn't have al pastor when we went (which is what they're known for) so we got the Lengua and the Carnitas instead but they were luckily good. Not sure if there's inside seating (didn't look like it) but they have standing tables right outside. Did the Duolingo challenge and got $2 off. Price was decent considering the location. This place has so much potential but they are not executing on a few fronts. First, the upstairs can accommodate much more seating in a more functional way - the table set ups make no sense. Second, the chips are way too thick. This should be a the most basic part of running a taqueria. We liked the tacos and recommend getting the tortilla with the cheese. The newly expanded duos still has great tacos! Their menu has also expanded and they have main dishes and cocktails now! I love the al pastor tacos! They use corn tortillas and it's perfectly balanced. My partner really liked the chicken main dish which is like DIY tacos and it comes with beans and a molé sauce that was really good. It's very pretty too! They use really nice dinnerware here and the vibes inside are amazing. The renovations are beautiful and it's very spacious inside. There's an upstairs and downstairs. They take Resy reservations but we were able to get a table for a large group without a wait on a Friday night a week after they opened. They also have outdoor seating too. Service was really attentive and you can also flip your coaster to speak with the staff in Spanish, which is a really cool concept. They have a great guac and their salsas are pretty good. But, as a Duolingo user, and this restaurant being billed as an 'immersive experience' for language learning it was a huge disappointment. There is no such environment to practice Spanish. it is simply, quite an expensive, restaurant that serves good food. There was no opportunity to practice with any wait staff, let alone immersion of any kind. So, if you want to go for the food, you'll be pleased but with a lighter wallet. If you want to go practice Spanish, it will not happen. I wish they would've advertised clearly that the restaurant is no longer what they originally envisioned it to be.
