My biggest issue and the thing that drove down their rating for me was how god-awful loud it is. You talk to the front desk, and they'll tell you there's an hour wait if you don't have a reservation. You look around and see open tables. You think: "that's odd". You check on the website and it says you can get a reservation for 15, 30, and 45 minutes from now. You select a reservation for 15 minutes from now, and magically there isn't an hour wait for you anymore. You note the still open tables and the line not moving. The restaurant is very loud. They're doing late 2010's industrial chic with not a soft surface in site and garage doors, so everybody's conversation bounces around indefinitely. You wait a while for a server to come. I find the way the food looks when it arrives is always different than the way it sounds when you read the menu - sometimes for better, and sometimes for worse. The coffee and bar menu is pretty decent for a brunch place. Prices are on the high end, though some are more reasonable than others. Then you get hit with a 3% credit card fee which isn't adequately disclosed on the menu or when you enter the restaurant.

I used to live in the area and when the small coffee shop opened I was so exited to have that in our community and was happy to support them - even if some coffee beverages were top dollar. I was in the area today, and decided to stop in since I no longer live in the area and wanted to enjoy a good brew. Unfortunately, the experience I had left me leaving with a bitter taste in my mouth - and it wasn't from the coffee. I thought it goes without saying, but when a customer greets you, you should greet them back, not just stare. It would be even better if your staff would greet each customer first - make them feel welcome. Maybe I'm a millennial channeling boomer energy, but for years I'm noticing the customer service disappearing from a lot of businesses. I love that connection, but I'm understanding that some people see only a paycheck and skid by with minimal customer service and that is the new way. I don't plan to visit this establishment again. I wish the barista with star tattoos would have put in enough customer service energy that she did with her impeccable makeup.

Caribou Coffee to Minnesota is what Starbucks is to Seattle. The difference is that I can't get to the former anywhere in the States or Canada. So, I end up driving over here and placing my order through the drive-thru. There is a parking lot in this smaller plaza, but parking spaces seem limited. The drive-thru isn't as busy as the Starbucks, which I like. Today was an exception. I had never been here in the morning. Ordering is easy. A staff member asks if you have a rewards card. You simply state your phone number associated with the rewards card and you're good. You then order. I have been here a.handful of times already. I love the mango black and tropical green iced teas. The beautiful thing about them is that they are unsweetened by default. You also have four sizes to choose from: small, medium, large, and extra large. I ended up getting a free drink on my second visit. I got an extra large mango black iced tea. It was yummy. The mango isn't strong, but it works well with the black tea. So refreshing! I love the tropical green iced tea. It has subtle pineapple notes. Staff are super friendly and apologize when things take longer than expected. So rare, but much appreciated. I love this place. Cupcake is located in a large plaza. You can't miss the signage of a huge cupcake in blue and pink. I parked in one of the curbside pickup spots. I was picking up a takeout order and felt that it was fine. While waiting for a nice woman to fetch my order, I was looking at the desserts. This place has ice cream, macarons, and lots of baked goods. The chocolate croissant caught my attention. I knew that I needed to get one. When the woman returned with my Mason Jar Kitchen order, I asked if I could get the chocolate croissant. Yes! She got me one and placed it in a paper bag. I paid with a credit card. I also managed to include a tip. It was straightforward. I thanked the woman and headed back to the hotel to have lunch. I had the chocolate croissant as an afternoon snack. The croissant was okay. It was buttery, but it wasn't as flaky has I had hoped. It was more dense like a paperweight. I wanted flaky and airy. The chocolate was yummy. I prefer dark chocolate and loved it. I feel the need to go back and consume more items. The cakes and cheesecakes looked yummy. I was too early to take advantage of 50% off all pastries after 3 pm. I need to come back after this time and see if I can find a pastry that wows me. (459)

However, we came at 11am on a Saturday and wanted some of the brunch options. We were directed to a table in another part of the facility, given the full Curiouser menu, and abandoned for 30 minutes. No one talked to us again so we left and got brunch at another nearby establishment. I still hadn't had any coffee later that afternoon so I stopped by to try an easier scenario, and I had an excellent iced drink called Absolutely Alice. The corners of the building that are meant to be associated with the coffee shop part of the business are nice; lots of plants and homey touches.
