This place was absolutely terrible! The guy I had, literally seemed to not have a clue on how to drill and file nails. He had to redo 2 of my nails and they are still thick. I had cuts all over my fingers and he laughed it off when they were bleeding. The people were so rude. I went with my friend during the time and now she has pain in her nails. We both have pain in our nails and I have cuts that sting and hurt so badly. Therefore we called them and they started lying about what happened and didn't care whatsoever. Definitely do NOT recommend going to this place! Now my fingers hurt so badly and they basically just take your money and laugh it off. Don't get me wrong it's a lot of $$$ also. They then expect for you to come back like we have a time schedule to see if our nails are "hurting." How tf are you gonna see if our nails are hurting?! The nails are on us. This was the WORST salon that I have been to. My nails look sloppy and there is gel nail polish everywhere. The woman that started my nails was interrupted towards the end and another woman took over. They wanted to close early for a party, so the job was rushed. After asking for a "clean up" for my eyebrows, she proceeded to give me an "arch" and now they are so thin that I will have to use an eyebrow pencil to not look perpetually surprised. I was told over and over that she would "do a good job" so that I couldn't go online and "complain about her performance" I am pretty easy going, and probably should have demanded to not pay for this shoddy work, all I can do in retrospect is to warn other people to not waste their money at this "spa". read more

First time trying this place. Unfortunately it will be my last. The guy who did my nails cut up several of my cuticles and they were bleeding. I did get gel polish which should last at least 2-3 weeks (usually last this long at my normal nail salon) . The first day they had started chipping and peeling. My nails only lasted 2 days. The gel was all over my cuticles and now they have already peeled off. Waste of my money and now I'll have to go else where to have my nails done. read more

PAIN AND INFECTION AND RUDENESS. Just an awful experience at an overpriced, shoddy nail salon. I paid $80 for a guy to rip into my cuticles and actually CUT my finger in the process and then BLAME me! He cut off my very long natural nails without asking and filed them with no shape, again without asking. When I attempted to speak up, the guy CHASTISED me! This salon has no idea what customer service is and wouldn't know pampering if it hit them over the head. I would recommend ANY other nail salon in Dunkirk or Calvert County. Dunkirk Nails and Day Spa is just AWFUL and RUDE. Another note, I asked for some refund when I returned to show them my INFECTED, CUT finger and ripped cuticles and was rudely denied. Will NEVER come back here. The staff is BEYOND rude. My mother and i went to get pedicures this past Sunday.. No we didn't have appt.. we just walked in but they said they could take us. We sat with out feet in the water for 30 minutes!!!! When the lady came over to tell my mom 5 more minutes my mom asked me if i wanted to leave and i said yes the lady grabbed my moms foot and started her pedicure.... While i waited 10 more minutes. The pedicure was awful. The nail people were so beyond rude. They always give people a 5 minute massage while your nails are drying... Nope the lady just walked away. a horrible experience and i will never go back. I will make sure i spread the word about this place & their shitty ass customer service. read more

So we now know not to got to Dunkirk nail. The man on the phone told me it would be a few dollars extra for shalac and I asked how much all together for regular polish on my toes and shalac on my nails he told me 37$. I go to pay and the lady told me I miss understood him that's only for regular nail polish. It's 35 for each service. She got mad when I said well if I would have understood that I would have gone some where else 70$ was not in my price range. My nails are a mess definitely not worth the money I am very disappointed. read more

I am sitting in the chair (which is the best part) writing this review. I have been here 4 or 5 times and get more irritated everytime I come. It starts with the HIGH pressure sales (worse than a used car lot), the lady goes as far as to insult you if you don't "upgrade", insisting over and over. The guy actually doing my feet hasn't said one single word the entire time. He is half heartedly smearing lotion on my legs. The basic pedi consit of 20 minutes tops start to finish. I have been getting pedicures for 15 years and I honestly think this is the worst I have experienced. I hate that because its very convenient. I moved here a year ago and maybe I have been spoiled but this definitely doesn't come close to meeting my expectations. Guess I need to venture out further to find a great pedi experience. Today will absolutely be my last time here. If you want to be insulted into spending more money and then get a quick lazy pedicure by a sullen person who doesn't speak to you....then you will love this place. If you aren't looking for that then pass on this place :-( read more

I've been here a few times and every time I come in leave saying I'll never go back. Then time passes and I forget or convince myself maybe it's changed and I'll try it again. First of all they try to pressure you to get the more expensive options and when you say no, they keep pushing. The basic pedicure is 25 minutes and they start the timer (yes, an actual timer attached to each chair) as soon as your feet hit the water then walk away. This particular visit a solid 5 minutes had ran off my timer before the woman actually came back. Then she proceeded to try to get me to buy the pricey option, again, after I had already told her and another worker repeatedly that I just wanted the basic. Then, mid taking my old polish off, she stopped for several more minutes to whisper with a coworker. Now my time has dwindled to less than 15 minutes and nothing has really happened. To wrap this up, my entire pedicure was done and included one more interruption for her to go wax someones brows, by the time the timer went off. I'll let you do the math of how long the pedicure actually was. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. read more

I have gotten my nails done here for about 5 months now...most time's Rosa has done my nails and other then hearing her snide comments about every one who walks in the door and ask her a question she has done a good job as long as you don't mind waiting while she works the register and sets up the pedicure customers at the same time. But the last two time's I was handed over to "Jimmy". Well the first time I was having a new set done he not only took 3 ciggarette breaks but also file'd into my skin so badly my finger stung for 4 day's. Well Wenesday eveing I walked in to have my thumb repaired and I was told to sit at Jimmy's staition. When Jimmy decided to come over he told me I needed a whole new set. I remided him he put this set on just one week ago. He then ripped my nail off more then hafe way down the nail bed. He then took the cutical sissors and started digging into the nail bed! I started bleeding and cried out in pain! He did not even say "sorry" all he did was brush somthing on it to stop the bleeding. I said to him "I hope this dose not get infected". He then started talking back and forth with Rosa in thier language and they were laughing back and forth with each other. After a few minuits he went out for a ciggaette. I got up walked over to Rosa and showed her my finger. I was very upset. I did not think any of this was funny. It hurt and I blead. I got no appology. When Jimy finished his break and decided he would finish my nail he was angry because he saw me complaining. I will neaver go back here and neither will my sister! read more

I've been to this salon multiple times. Why? because it's clean and close to my home. I often leave disgruntled by the customer service or quality of service. Unfortunately, every time I end up paying more than I thought I would. Often when you get a combo mani/pedi they stand over you and do both while you sit in the pedicure chair; I always feel rushed. Today, I just wanted a gel manicure and regular pedicure, and explained that to multiple technicians, 2-3 times while looking at a "menu". I was then told 3 packages were 10% off. Not only did I not get 10% off one of those packages, I was charged $80(!!!!!) when I thought I would be paying $45.00(-10% discount)= $40.50+ tip. After speaking with multiple employees I was told I did not select the ONLY package available for a discount but the pedicure by itself was $45 (manicure not included). The employees knew I was having a hard time understanding their pricing before during and after the service. Very upset with the customer service here. The gel manicure is okay, pedicure great, but I feel like I was deceived and taken advantage of. I will not be going back, I have had enough to of this "business". read more

Worst mani-pedi experience ever! I'm diabetic and I should have specified it to the guy doing my nails because I got a cut on one of my fingers and on one of my toes!!! Terrible!!! I'm scared to get a mani-pedi ever again :-( I only did it because we were going to a wedding and I wanted to have nice nails and treat myself. He also pushed into getting scrubs, hot stone (which were really hot I thought I was going to get burned!) and some other stuff that I don't really want and need and ended up with a $90 bill! I said I don't want any of it and he still did it anyway. . . What is it that they don't understand with NO?!?! Don't go to this place again if you don't want to get ripped off. I've only been here a few times... Never have been jumping over the moon about the place. I've only gone to this place cause it's local. Apparently, I should go further the distance and get better service. This past time, will be the last time. A half an hour and two cut places on my feet later I'm writing this review. The staff is rude. First, I had my mind made up on what I wanted. I told some guy, but he insisted on me looking at options then tried to get me to buy something twice as expensive then thing I actually wanted. I pretty much had to spell it out for him "a basic pedicure". He pushed a little more, then left me alone. A women named Jane did my toes. Just seemed to rush and acted like she just didn't care. My pedicure was over in 15 minutes. 40 dollars for 15 minutes is outrageous! What really bothered me was he painted my toenails within a minute! He went from each foot back to back 2 coats and then went right into the clear coat. I thought I was getting punked. Then he just got up and walked away! I wasn't even sure if I was done I was sitting there for 5 minutes and he finally came over and was like oh! And dragged me to the drying station.. what in the world. Literally the worse possible customer service ever. I was treated as if I didn't pay almost a hundred dollars for a mani pedi. My gel manicure has bubbles all throughout it and my pedicure lady was pretty decent but my feet have looked better when I went to my hole in the wall nail spot or did them myself. I will not be coming back and I advise you to take your hard earned money somewhere else. I've been here a at least 4 times and really wanted to like this place since it's really nice on the inside, but don't let that fool you. The same trash customer service but to sit in a really nice pedicure chair then by all means come here. The owner trash talked about another woman who paid right before me saying she should've asked more in depth about the service they clearly overcharged her for. Wow, this is suprising. I am black and have never heard any racist comments. This is by far the best nail salon that I have been to. Second worst mani pedi I've ever gotten. (Top of the list is a place that cut my toe nails so short they were bleeding) The guy who did my nails was rude, he was making jokes and laughing the whole time I felt like about me, and he kept grabbing my leg/foot when he asked me to move them like I wasn't moving fast enough. I get a mani/pedi every two weeks so I'm familiar with the process I didn't need him to grab at me and jerk me around like he did. At one point he yelled at me that my nails were wet, like I've never had a manicure before. He asked if I wanted a design because I had something very ornate on my toes already and I said yes. I showed him a picture of what I wanted, three lines of polka dots and he said he couldn't do that. If you can't do polka dots why even ask if I wanted a design? My nails started chipping just a couple hours later and I had to take the polish off and my big toe is all messed up. I only went there because I was visiting my parents for the weekend, was due for a mani/pedi, and my mom recommended the salon. Never again! I don't need to be yelled at and man handled when I'm paying for a service. Just plain rude. read more

Recently got a TERRIBLE looking shellac nail polish. Started peeling off within 5 days. Lots of bubbles in the gel, and they even got the gel on my skin, which made it easier to peel off. On top of the terrible quality, service sucked, too. They did the shellac while I was getting a pedicure and leaning sideways in the chair. Very uncomfortable. They just wanted to get me out of there and there were more than 2 hours until the posted closing time. VERY expensive. Charged me $40 for the shellac and I got a solid color on my nails. US Nails in Dunkirk is only $30, much better quality and service. Go to US Nails instead. read more

I've been going here for a while only because it's close to my house. Going here is a hit or a miss every time. There are a few who are friendly and do a decent job. If they're busy, they rush through to get to other customers which I can understand to an extent but I often find myself filing my own nails when I get home because they didn't put in a full effort. I think they make up prices as it's different every time I go (and I get the same thing done every time). I've seen them roll their eyes when customers aren't looking and when you have a suggestion or comment, they do things their way regardless. I do like how clean it is but it isn't worth the money! read more

If only there was a way to give 0 stars. The people who own this place are extremely rude, the wife gets confrontational if you ask her more than one question. Plus, the husband had a cold and was coughing uncontrollably without coving his mouth, without any regard to anyone else who was around him, and I later got a cold, no surprise there. Don't try to talk to the female owner, she doesn't want to be bothered! They overcharge you, treat you badly, then they have the audacity to ask for a tip at the register. This is the worst treatment I've ever received at a nail salon and thankfully there are practically nail salons on every corner. The only good thing about this place is the way it looks, they've obviously invested a lot into the appearance but that's not enough when weighing it against the continuous rude behavior!! I'd rather give my money to a shop of lower quality appearance-wise, but they'll treat you like a human being, worthy of their time and attention. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I was a regular customer for over a year and the only reason I kept going back was because they usually did a good job. However, I have decided I am never going back due to the poor customer service. I have had all of the different workers do my nails and the nicest one is John. He is the only friendly nail technician. The others are constantly on their personal devices (phones, laptops, etc). It is SO unprofessional. It is very usual for the staff to stop what they are doing to call/text someone back in the middle of the CUSTOMER'S time! They have always been rude, but what really drew the line was when I went back in to get my nail fixed a week ago. I had gotten a full set of gel-acrylics and not even 24 hours later my thumb had cracked when I lifted up my suitcase. I am very careful with my nails -- I should be careful since a full set is $50, not including tip. With that being said, my nail cracked and so I went in the next morning to get it fixed. When i walked in, I politely said, "Hi there, I know this isn't necessarily your fault but --" AND THE OWNER interrupted me saying, "Oh I KNOW it is not my fault. Your nails are too long." First of all, I am a regular customer and even if I wasn't, that is not how someone should talk to their client who is being POLITE. I went there on 6/12/2015 as a last resort since my normal nail place was booked. I needed a take off and a full set of acrylic nails. I had an incompetent male technician. he soaked my fingers to remove the original set of nails...that is all well and good until he "finishes" the take off and starts applying the tips when clearly not all of the original set is off. he then proceeds to apply the powder acrylic and fails to put it on my whole nail bed, puts too much on some nails to the point it is stuck to my skin, some are crooked. after he finishes and I show him the issues he huffs and puffs about having to fix them and then looks at me as if he does not know how. After showing and telling him how he half ass fixes them. I wanted a nail polish color which 2 techs refused to do and said I had to get shellac gel polish. I paid $50 for a set of nails that look like a 5 year old did them. I then went back on Sunday morning as soon as they opening to have them fixed. The "manager" told me there was a 2 hour wait when there were 3 out of 10 chairs full and I would have to come back. She asked what the issue was and I showed he and she snuffed me off. I had the WORST experience here and will never go back! First of all, they constantly try to sell you additional services and then they use their language barrier to force you into additional services. It is impossible to relax since they are constantly trying to force additional services on you. The guy gave me dirty looks the entire time and acted very sketchy. I was afraid he was going to explode at me or cut me with the nail clippers if I said "no" to his upsells. He tried to sell me their deluxe pedicure and when I said no, he proceeded "you sure you dont want deluxe pedicure for $60." My response was once again "no" and then he said he would give it to me "for $55 under table." I once again said "no" and then he said, "oh, okay $45 mani/pedi," which I agreed to thinking that was the regular mani/pedi. Later while I am letting my nails dry, I discover their price list and realize that a regular mani/pedi is $35, so before leaving I confront them and their response was basically you agreed to $45. Yeah, I agreed to $45 thinking that was how much a mani/pedi cost. But, the $45 included a callous treatment, which was nothing special. In fact, the so called "callous treatment" that I paid $10 for is normally included in the $35 price at any other nail salon. Did I mention that I was also asked if I wanted gel nails 3 times during my visit. What a terrible experience!! They do not deserve to be in business and I can't believe they have been in business for as long as they have. I have never written a review on Yelp or any other review sight before, but my experience today with this establishment upset me enough that I looked up the other reviews and wanted to add my own. When you walk into the Dunkirk Nail and Day Spa it looks very nice, at first I was glad I had passes up the other 3 or 4 nail places I saw on my way and decided to stop there. I wanted a mani/ pedi and allowed myself to get talked into the upgraded one ($60 versus $35). Honestly, I think it was too expensive for what I got- especially compared with other places I have been in the past. What upset me the most is this: I have any allergy to most lotions and perfumes. If they are bad enough I can break out in hives and get horrible headaches. Usually when I go somewhere I ask for unscented lotion or bring my own. When I glanced at their menu card I saw the word peppermint and since I can handle the smell of peppermint I didn't worry. When he started putting the lotion on my legs I knew it was going to be a problem for me, but since it was my legs and I had on long pants I figured it would be okay. When he started to do my hands I asked if they had any lotion with peppermint they could use instead. The guy doing my pedicure really didn't understand what I was saying so another guy ( who had previously told me he was the manager) came over. He told me that they could not use any other lotion because I could only have the products that were in the package I purchased. I told him I didn't want any lotion then and that I would use my own. At that moment I stopped enjoying myself and couldn't wait to leave. I will never go back. They have permanently lost a customer (and I get my nails done fairly often) over a small amount of lotion. When I told the lady at the front desk that I would not be back and why she told me she was the manager and when they told her about my request they apparently just thought I was trying to get something for free (a $60 mani/pedi is a lot of money!!) She didn't seem to care that I would never be back. When people just don't care it's frustration and disappointing, I didn't want something for free, I simply didn't want to get sick. Overall the quality was not that great either, reading through the other review I could see where the other reviewers frustration was coming from. This place is a horrible business! I went there to get a pedicure and after I sat in the chair I was given a chart with various types of service. The nail tech was on the phone at the time and I pointed to what looked like the "basic" pedicure. I didn't find out until he started putting on "chocolate" on my legs this was not the basic pedicure. I then questioned him and he said I asked for the deluxe package. I did not ask for anything but pointed to the one I thought was the basic pkg because it was highlight and he also pointed to it. Needless to say, I was pretty upset that they wanted me to pay the full price of $50. I have never paid over $25 for a pedicure and when I asked to speak to the manager he said he was the manager. I never got the full pedicure and he took off $5 for the price. I will never ever go back there. They were rude to me and said they had everything on camera. I asked them "did I verbally say I wanted a deluxe package" and after I explained that I did not ask for a deluxe and I wasn't verbally asked they still refuse to deduct the price. Poor management and very deceiving to try to deceive customers for extra services. read more
