This place definitely falls into the first category. This morning I went with the single origin Guatemala drip, and it was exactly what a solid cup of coffee should be. Smooth, rich, and balanced with a nice chocolate note that hangs around just long enough to make you take another sip. No bitterness. No burnt taste. Just a clean, well-roasted cup that says someone here actually cares about the beans. The shop itself has a personality, which I always appreciate. It's decorated with fishing lures, fish artwork, and sculptures scattered around the place. Naturally this leads to the obvious conclusion: the owner is either an avid fisherman... or coffee roasting is just the side hustle between trout expeditions. Either way, the theme works. The space feels relaxed, creative, and comfortable. The kind of place where you can sit with a cup and not feel rushed out the door. And speaking of doors, while I was there there was a steady flow of customers coming in and out. That's usually the universal coffee signal for yep, this place is doing something right. Perfect blend not too sweet and just the right amount of flavor! Service was kind and helpful with recommendations and helping my son pick a donut flavor. They use a wide variety of beans and roast them with a lot of nuance to bring out the strengths of each variety. They pull outstanding shots. They teach classes in appreciating coffee. They run food and clothing drives for people in need. They are LGBTQ+ welcoming. They sell weird gifts. They have a charming patio in a sweet neighborhood. They have books and games. Their bags of beans are just as good, and they stay fresh longer than any store bought beans I've ever purchased anywhere. (At home I roast my own because freshness is paramount.) The donuts are also pretty great and make a great complement to the coffee. I enjoyed the place so much that I even bought two of the cute coffee mugs, one for me and one for my friend who loves it.
