The last time I had a contact lens exam at this practice the cost was $254. At $400, it is a 57% increase from my last eye exam three years ago. When I questioned the huge increase, I was told that Dr. Tupps kept his prices the same forever and that he did not charge enough. When I shared that that's a 20% increase per year, they again said he didn't charge enough. I left. Called another local eye doctor. My total eye exam cost, including contacts, was $215... Which they quoted me upfront. Within an hour I had my contact lens prescription and saved at least $185. We will not be back. They lost me as a customer. They also lost my husband as a customer. When I used to go to Dr. Tupps the waiting room was always packed. Today I walked into an empty, waiting room... Now I know why.

I've since switched carriers and I get even better coverage for the same great products and smash-bang service. Terry the optical device specialist is fantastic and has been here longer than the rest of them put together including the two optometrists. Only trouble with this place is that they're slower than molasses! That's the reason for only 4 stars...sitting in this joint for nearly an hour and still hasn't seen the doctor. Anyhow: the optometrist we both dealt with (Dr. Geary) is a young fellow who seems relatively new out of optometry school but still knows his job well and is straightforward. No nonsense and quite a pleasant doctor to deal with. He was very thorough with my eye exam as he reviewed my old chart. They gave me the typical new case, cloth and load of eyeglass cleaning fluid with my order. Only took a bit over a week to get them back from the lab after my exam and fitting. Certainly a bit better than average as I don't care for EyeglassWorld and all those sorts of joints where they slap together glasses like a line of Big Macs. Yuck! After dilating my eyes, he said "Oh you have sunglasses" so he let me leave but he should not have. There was also a person waiting in the lobby with the extreme dark shades that he should have provided for me. I only live a short distance from this location but my vision was severely impaired. Since I was feeling so wary about his competence I went to another firm for glasses. After picking them up I realized that there was no way I could possibly use them. They are reading glasses. To use them, any reading material had to be right up at my face. It was a gross over correction. I went to this company because my insurance paid for the exam. I'll not be back and I hope others will consider this review before booking an appointment. I wish YELP would have a "no" stars option, it fits this office.

But eye exam and retinal scan are covered. So.... I don't know. To my understanding, that is "balance billing" which is illegal in Florida. And to wait a year to say I owe money??? And not saying which "service" it is for. I wonder how many people just pay it. Seems incredibly dishonest to me. Not to mention a bad business practice to send you a bill 12 months later. If you do decide to go, be sure to save your receipt saying you have paid in full. For years, if you have to. And yes, I opened a "chat" to query the bill. But they are "assisting other customers".
