I was later told this is a new location for them but still, everything looked brand new and unused. The very friendly receptionist told me that since I have a Medicare Advantage plan, it was best to make 2 appointments as one thing I needed was covered with Advantage Vision Insurance and another basic Medicare. The rules state they can't bill for both in one visit. No one has ever mentioned that before and it saved me $. After about a 2 minute wait, a tech came and got me. Started with the basic eye exam. Much more thorough than any I have had before. Techs did all the work then had me wait for the optometrist who went over everything, checked it and answered all my questions. I saw Dr. Liffland who came across as a bit of an ice queen but was amazingly patient, smart and informative. She took time to pull out of me any questions I might have. Then it was back to make another appointment for a about 2 weeks in the future. That was for a macular degeneration scan. Again, 2 minute wait before being checked out by several techs then taken into an office to see Dr. Liffland. Again, amazingly informative. I was first diagnosed with age related macular degeneration a least a decade ago so this was not my first rodeo with the procedure. Again, this time was more in depth and comprehensive than I have ever had before. Again, Dr. Liffland patiently pried me for questions or concerns and was truly informative and reassuring. I've been in Clearwater 10 years now and tried a few different places looking for the right one for vision care and now I have found it.

Today I went for a contact lens appointment... they would not even give me a firm price for the exam, other than it will be over $400+... and we will tell you what the final cost is going to be after the exam. The last time I had a contact lens exam at this practice the cost was $254. At $400, it is a 57% increase from my last eye exam three years ago. When I questioned the huge increase, I was told that Dr. Tupps kept his prices the same forever and that he did not charge enough. When I shared that that's a 20% increase per year, they again said he didn't charge enough. I left. Called another local eye doctor. My total eye exam cost, including contacts, was $215... Which they quoted me upfront. Within an hour I had my contact lens prescription and saved at least $185. We will not be back. They lost me as a customer. They also lost my husband as a customer. When I used to go to Dr. Tupps the waiting room was always packed. Today I walked into an empty, waiting room... Now I know why.

I did not need glasses before surgery. St Lukes told me I had to choose if I wanted to see for distance or for reading. People I knew in the past who had cataract surgery said they never needed glasses again so I was confused by this. St Lukes said if I paid approx. $4000 an eye it would cover both distance and reading but my insurance only paid for one or the other. I opted for distance due to eye doctor and doctor at St Lukes saying I needed this done or I may shortly be unable to see good enough to drive. After I had surgery done I had to get glasses to read. I had itching and discomfort with eyes after surgery which I never had before and was told to keep using eye drops for dryness. Since then and up to today, I have spots before my eyes, "rings" which obstruct my vision and constant watering, itching and eye discomfort. I am so sorry I did NOT refuse to have surgery or maybe at least only had one eye done. I still hear other say how great their surgery was that was done at another company and wish I could go back and checked out other places. This has been very hard to type even with my glasses on due to the "rings" and spots. I DO NOT recommend this facility as all they seem to care about is money. When I asked for an itemized list of things that would be included in my new glasses, Clay told me that man at the front desk (the Dr.'s husband and business manager) would give it to me. When I asked "that man" for it, (no one ever told me his name) he said our system doesn't do that." I said, "Clay told me you would give it to me." The man stood up from behind the counter and said angrily, "You're NOT listening to me!" I was shocked! um, no dude, YOU'RE NOT LISTENING TO ME! I didn't want just the receipt with lots of codes he threw at me. I wanted a receipt that shows if I have polycarb, blue light filter, anti- reflection, transitions, etc. I have always been given this at many other places in the past. Ten days later, when I went to pick up my new glasses, "that man" yelled at me again. This time he stood right next to me while I was sitting down talking with Clay, pointed his hand toward the door and yelled for me to leave. "YOU CAN LEAVE. Goodbye!!" I told him he can give me my money back and he shouted that the glasses are nonreturnable. Apparently this is the norm for him. That's just what he does. The VSP rep itemized everything I should have been billed and emailed me a copy to bring to "that man" for reimbursment. I bought it to him and he refused it with a wave of hand and told me to leave. (AGAIN!) He said he didn't send the check for the money owed because he told VSP to tell me to come in and he would give me a full refund. WHAT?! This is a LIE!! A rep from VSP suggested I never go back to this office. He also lied several times during our conversation. At one point he lied and said he has me on video with three witnesses that heard me say something I absolutely NEVER said. I told him to show me the video and he refused.
