Today I went for a contact lens appointment... they would not even give me a firm price for the exam, other than it will be over $400+... and we will tell you what the final cost is going to be after the exam. The last time I had a contact lens exam at this practice the cost was $254. At $400, it is a 57% increase from my last eye exam three years ago. When I questioned the huge increase, I was told that Dr. Tupps kept his prices the same forever and that he did not charge enough. When I shared that that's a 20% increase per year, they again said he didn't charge enough. I left. Called another local eye doctor. My total eye exam cost, including contacts, was $215... Which they quoted me upfront. Within an hour I had my contact lens prescription and saved at least $185. We will not be back. They lost me as a customer. They also lost my husband as a customer. When I used to go to Dr. Tupps the waiting room was always packed. Today I walked into an empty, waiting room... Now I know why.

My wife politely requested the doctor (an older Asian woman) that the glaucoma test not be done. However, the doctor forcefully declined the request and told my wife she needed the test done. My wife is an alternative health practitioner who knows about the glaucoma test. She knew she was in a low-risk profile for it and that the test itself required usage on many, many people to find one existing case. My wife had no reason to suspect this condition. She asked again to decline the test. The doctor told her that unless the test was done, she couldn't be seen. So my wife left, and it wasted our time. I had a conversation with the manager who just repeated the same BS lines over and over again of "It's a different company," "the doctor says it's necessary," and "it's the standard operating procedure." Standard operating procedure? What BS. We all know that the glaucoma test has nothing to do with getting an eyeglasses prescription (which was all we wanted). We all know that glaucoma mainly affects the elderly (which my wife is not). Not respecting patients' wishes is unethical, condescending, and rude. I hope the management of this place holds its doctors to a higher ethical line and makes needed changes.

I called to follow up and they never called me back. I figured they would call me when the contacts came in. Another month later I called and they would not call me back. I called my insurance company and they said a file was never claimed and there had been no pre-authorization. I finally had to go to the office because no one would return my phone call. They were apologetic and said they would get right on it and gave a few sample contacts to try until my scleral's came in. I tried the samples and called and told them which one it was and she said they would give me a few pairs for the holidays. I told her and sent a picture of which contact it was. When I went to pick them up she gave me the wrong contacts! They STILL have not returned my call, I have no contacts, I'm in glasses and have to start this process all over somewhere else. Dr. Gindi is a good OD (although I've left several messages for her and she still hasn't returned my phone call) but the place is absolutely TERRIBLE. The options for frames were really good and the prices were great as well. I recommend this place for anyone looking for eye care needs.

After dilating my eyes, he said "Oh you have sunglasses" so he let me leave but he should not have. There was also a person waiting in the lobby with the extreme dark shades that he should have provided for me. I only live a short distance from this location but my vision was severely impaired. Since I was feeling so wary about his competence I went to another firm for glasses. After picking them up I realized that there was no way I could possibly use them. They are reading glasses. To use them, any reading material had to be right up at my face. It was a gross over correction. I went to this company because my insurance paid for the exam. I'll not be back and I hope others will consider this review before booking an appointment. I wish YELP would have a "no" stars option, it fits this office.

But eye exam and retinal scan are covered. So.... I don't know. To my understanding, that is "balance billing" which is illegal in Florida. And to wait a year to say I owe money??? And not saying which "service" it is for. I wonder how many people just pay it. Seems incredibly dishonest to me. Not to mention a bad business practice to send you a bill 12 months later. If you do decide to go, be sure to save your receipt saying you have paid in full. For years, if you have to. And yes, I opened a "chat" to query the bill. But they are "assisting other customers".
