There used to be this adorable, weird hole in the wall fish shop in Dunalley that looked the slightest breeze would knock it down. It wasn't fancy and you couldn't just pick "calamari and chips" or "Flounder and Scallops". You ordered per person, and your basket was filled with whatever the fishing boats caught. Could be sardines, could be flake, could be squid, octopus... it was unbelievably fresh and the building was an anachronism standing at the waters edge of rustic down home charm and good, fresh seafood.
That's how it WAS. they've renovated, and in 2024 chic, it looks and feels like a drab, sterile cafeteria. You no longer order based on what's caught, nothing is as fresh as it was and the staff are dismissive to the point of being rude. It's filled with fake ocean props and displays that seem totally at odds with the new modern stylings.
Prices have gone up, serving size has gone down and what was a quaint gem hidden on the way to Port Arthur has now Been gentrified in the most disappointing way possible. I wouldn't recommend it on its own, unless you happen to be passing through anyway. read more
