That was plenty for me! Fish of the day was a nice soft fish that I ordered battered, and it was delish! Fries were excellent too. The place was pretty busy, maybe 8 tables inside and more outside., and take-out as well. Definitely worth a try! Wish I'd taken photos, but I forgot.

I liked the vibe and it was fun to look around as we ate to see all the decorations. Creative. For dinner I had the batter fried prawns. I got the main (not entree) version and I got 9 shrimp. Yikes, it was a ton to eat, plus side of salad and couscous. Really liked my meal, although I wished I had got the smaller entree version. Staff worked well as a team.

It was located just…read morearound the corner from our Downtown Hobart Hotel, and was our first meal after landing in Australia (19 hour time difference). Fish and Chips and a local beer were on tap for our meal, and it was all very good. We ordered and paid for our meal at the bar, and enjoyed our time at a high table by the window. We were here early afternoon, so things were relatively quiet, vs. an more boisterous and crowded evening pub atmosphere. There's 3 rooms (including the one with the bar) downstairs and an upstairs, with the local Hobart Brewing Company running this historical establishment. It looks like they have some work ahead of them in terms of upkeep of this elderly building, but the food, clientele, and atmosphere all fit together well.

Here's what we noticed: - It was a Monday night and we came in around 6:30 PM, and the place was already packed. We didn't have a reservation and the wait was going to be about 45 minutes or more, so luckily we were able to find a couple of open spots at a table in the bar area, where you order at the bar and the food is delivered to your table. It worked great! - There are a lot of great beers on tap, including several from Hobart Brewing Company. - Based on prior reviews, my wife and I ordered the Fish and Chips and the Seafood Chowder to split both dishes between us. The Fish and Chips were excellent, not overly breaded and the fish was perfectly cooked, very juicy. And, it came with a little salad. The Seafood Chowder was really good, including the bread that came with it. - The vibe inside is really fun, just a bit loud as you would expect a pub to be. Bottom line: We're glad we spent our first night at the Hope and Anchor Tavern.

It wasn't fancy and you couldn't just pick "calamari and chips" or "Flounder and Scallops". You ordered per person, and your basket was filled with whatever the fishing boats caught. Could be sardines, could be flake, could be squid, octopus... it was unbelievably fresh and the building was an anachronism standing at the waters edge of rustic down home charm and good, fresh seafood. That's how it WAS. they've renovated, and in 2024 chic, it looks and feels like a drab, sterile cafeteria. You no longer order based on what's caught, nothing is as fresh as it was and the staff are dismissive to the point of being rude. It's filled with fake ocean props and displays that seem totally at odds with the new modern stylings. Prices have gone up, serving size has gone down and what was a quaint gem hidden on the way to Port Arthur has now Been gentrified in the most disappointing way possible. I wouldn't recommend it on its own, unless you happen to be passing through anyway.

The restaurant has indoor seating, outdoor seating and a 'lounge' area with couches and coffee tables if you aren't having a full meal. The space is open and relaxed and makes good use of light and the scenery. The biggest issue I have with Pier One is that it is in the Wrest Point Casino complex - I don't gamble and find casinos in general to be tacky and boring. However, if you are like me it is possible to access the restaurant whilst still avoiding pretty much the entire casino by using the lower entrance or wandering around the water-side boardwalk.
