Salmon Fillet

Service was wonderful. Quick, polite, knowledgeable. The menu, essentially all seafood, had variety yet emphasized local. The dining room is large and we'll enough spread that table conversation is audible. The food was well presented. Yet it had little flavor, even overcooked the fish and chips, making the fish dry rather than moist.

Abalone

Evidently this place is not for Americans. Look the abalone was tasty. I asked one person if it was fresh and the shell I got belonged to the abalone they served me. I was told yes, but later on I was told that it is not. They reuse the shell. I'm not so sure I got a whole abalone as it was sliced thin and not much too it based on the size of the shell. The lobster was frozen. I was told the half lobster was $130 and the whole was about 2 times as much. We tried the half. So it came Mornay style and the lobster meat was chopped into small pieces. 5 to be exact and each one was very small. Think total volume about 1/3 of a standard Milky Way bar. I'm not even sure if it was the lobster that came with the shell or they just scooped some out of a pot. Don't know how it tasted, sent it back due to price and portion size I will say this, they were accommodating and took it off the bill and offered some free wine or desert which we did not take them up on The broccolini was excellent The smoked fish soup was a pass for me.

We started off with the host pulled out our seats and pushed it in for each one of us. I ordered a Pinot that was for the restaurant (very small pour for $10) my friend ordered a pink martini ($22).We got bread at $3 per slice. My friends got scallops and a side of broccolini and green beans. I got the pumpkin and butternut squash risotto. My friends got the apple tart tartin. They loved it. Pretty expensive.

Walk up to the flagship restaurant

The flagship restaurant of the Mures family located in the middle of the harbor above several other eateries (also owned by the Family). Look for the big green building overlooking the harbor. We had a 7 pm booking and I'm glad we did as they were turning away walk-ins on a summer Thursday night. We were given a lovely table for-two looking out on the harbor. The menu here is centered around fresh caught fish prepared and presented in a beautiful style. There were several specials and I opted for the mild, flakey tooth fish filet set in a mix of asparagus tomato and grains while my wife tried another local white fish. Their extensive wine list is also heavy on local producers and there are many nice selections by the glass in addition to the bottle list. Service was a bit slow bit we never felt neglected-I think they could do with a few more staff as our poor server, wHile diligent seemed to just have too many tables. All in all a nice, elegant (yet not stuffy), dining experience on the water. Recommended

Seafood platter for one, just yum! We had one each!

The seafood platters were perfect. We could not decide on a wine, so the wine waiter gave us a wine tasting derived from what we said our palates liked. Three wines all delightful. We chose one, I will place a snap of the label. Our palate is quite sweet. The whole night was delightful, we were so well looked after. The view over the dock was an added bonus. We absolutely recommend this venue to you all.

Oyster platter. 2 1/2 dozen oysters Natural, vinaigrette, mornay, pork belly, salmon and salmon roe, and oyster mojito shots.

We kicked off our first meal in Hobart with a focus on seafood. Blue Eye was located at the end of…read moreSalamanca Market in a modern space with both indoor and outdoor seating. Lots of seafood options to pick from but there was one sirloin option for meat eaters and one vegetarian pasta. Afternoon oyster orgy (aka happy hour) was offered everyday from 3-5pm and the oysters were a great deal at half price. The six we ordered were large and fresh and came with a red wine mignonette. Other places charged extra for anything other than plain lemon wedges with their oysters. The fish of the day was a blue eye fillet which was a thick white fillet and with a very nice creamy sauce. The broccolini was perfectly cooked and one of the best in a long time. Potatoes rounded out the plate and were a good complement. Seafood linguine was served with a generous amount of shrimp, calamari, fish and scallops. Pasta was al dente. For dessert we finished off with their sticky toffee cake with a scoop of caramel ice cream. It brought back memories of our first one last year and was a satisfying end to dinner. Great service from the various staff members throughout our dinner. Would come back on a future stop in Hobart.

Fresh fish BUT lukewarm, clearly been left to stand for a long time…read more Octopus could barely be cut with a knife for both of us. Tiny portions..and I mean t.i.n.y , left feeling hungry and ripped off. Please save your money and appetite for a more worthy restaurant.. You will be disappointed .
