They have a surprisingly large variety of noodle dishes, including Chongqing-style noodles, Sichuan noodles, Taiwanese beef noodles, chicken noodles, char siu noodles, pork intestine noodles, and vegetable noodles. You can also choose from different types of noodles and adjust the spice level to your preference. What impressed me the most is the price. These days, a bowl of pho can easily cost over $20, but many dishes here are around $12-$16, and the portions are generous. The broth is rich and flavorful without tasting overly heavy. They also have a small self-serve area with side items like pickled vegetables, bamboo shoots, and peanuts, which I really enjoyed. My family liked the food as well, and after two visits, I can say this is definitely a place I would come back to again. Good food, good portions, and very fair prices. The prices are very affordable and they are large portions. I got the beef rib noodle soup which came with 3 ribs. My friend got the beef noodle soup. They also do dim sum dishes. Pros: large portions, broth is flavorful, and you get to pick the type of noodle you want. Our server was friendly and chatted with us to answer our questions. There's a decent amount of seating and they also have a condiment bar. Our food arrived quickly so there was a very little wait time. Cons: parking can get pretty full here since Asian pearl is just across this restaurant.

This was our second time visiting this restaurant during their Soft Opening…read more I was excited to hear that Hidden Dumpling House had finally opened on Freeport Boulevard, taking over the old Yummy Guide Cafe location. I can honestly say they've done an outstanding job transforming the space. The restaurant feels fresh, modern, and incredibly clean. The dining room has a well-thought-out layout with plenty of room between tables, and the mini-split air conditioning keeps the restaurant at a very comfortable temperature--a small detail that definitely doesn't go unnoticed during Sacramento summers. Even though they had just celebrated their grand opening and business has been steady, we were pleasantly surprised that we didn't have to wait for a table. The staff was welcoming from the moment we walked in and remained friendly and attentive throughout our meal. Here's what we ordered: Spicy Garlic Green Beans These were excellent. The green beans were cooked perfectly, maintaining just enough crunch without being undercooked. They were tossed with garlic, onions, and plenty of seasoning. They did lean a little on the salty side, but I think much of that came from the spicy garlic sauce itself. Despite that, we found ourselves going back for bite after bite. The slight heat built gradually without overpowering the freshness of the vegetables, making this an easy dish to recommend. Deluxe Chow Mein (Substituted with Skinny Egg Noodles) This is our go-to dish every time we visit Hidden Dumpling House. It normally comes with the thicker chow mein noodles, but we always ask them to substitute the skinny egg noodles, and they happily accommodate the request. This dish is absolutely fire. The portion is huge and loaded with generous pieces of tender chicken, flavorful char siu, and large shrimp. Unlike some restaurants that skimp on the protein, every bite here has something to enjoy. The noodles have an incredible texture, soaking up the savory sauce while still maintaining a slight chew. The vegetables add freshness and crunch, and everything comes together beautifully. Yes, it's one of the more expensive noodle dishes on the menu, but after seeing the portion size and the quality of the ingredients, the price makes complete sense. It's easily enough food for two people to share or to enjoy leftovers the next day. Overall, Hidden Dumpling House has made a fantastic first impression. Between the renovated dining room, attentive staff, comfortable atmosphere, and consistently delicious food, it's easy to see why the restaurant has already been drawing a crowd. If this is what they're serving right after opening, I can't wait to come back and explore more of the menu. For us, the Deluxe Chow Mein with skinny egg noodles is already a must-order every visit, and the Spicy Garlic Green Beans make the perfect side to complement it. Welcome to the neighborhood, Hidden Dumpling House. We'll definitely be back. Simply Wonderful!!!

I love how the server personalized our table by putting a name card for the reservation at the table. We had the Hong Kong-style chow fun, xiao long bao, garlic green beans, and garlic eggplant. The prices are pretty standard for Chinese restaurants. A cute place worth trying and family style Chinese dining.

It was lunchtime prime time and I was instantly seated and carts came right over to me, which is so amazing. I love that this place still has carts! When the one item I wanted, wasn't on a cart they specially ordered it for me and brought it out pretty quickly. The decor is still bare bones no real ambience whatsoever. But that's OK because they have carts and that makes it all worthwhile. Now for the sad news.... The Dim Sum is just not that good anymore. I always really enjoyed having the black bean spareribs and these ribs and have a couple black beans in them are just devoid a flavor. There's a little bit of jalapeño flavor, but I would never order these again. The pan fried shrimp and chive dumplings were very stale tasting. The inside was perfect consistency and ratios, but the outside noodle was dried and chewy and just not good. I also got the steam steamed then pan fried pork and vegetable buns, which are normally to die for good here, but oh-my, they were just awful it taste like eating cardboard. The inside was OK but outside was so bad and so stale tasting that I just was left with a bad taste in my mouth. Don't think I'll be returning anytime soon, which is really sad.

I'm trying to prioritize my protein whenever possible and they are protein friendly here. I appreciate the items were neatly arranged in the to-go Bento Box. I thoroughly enjoyed every items I have selected. It wasn't greasy and full of flavors. Besides Bento Boxes, they have noodles, soup, small bites and side dishes. I want to try the Taiwanese Fried Chicken next time. They also have a freezer full of dumplings, fish balls, sauces, cooked items and etc. for purchase. I got the Zha Jiang (pork meat sauce) that I can't wait to try on noodles. There are 4-5 tables to dine in if you preferred but I think this is more like a take-out spot.

But for today, i wanted to try their take-out stir fry dishes. So what did we order. 1) Broccoli chicken in garlic sauce entree. chicken was rough and lacked flavor. It seemed recooked and prepped earlier. Broccoli was fresh and cooked very al dente (i guess it is better cooked less to retain the vitamins and nutrients). the garlic sauce had minimal flavor. i would say it is meh. would i order this dish again....good question. 2) spareribs in black bean sauce over rice. the dish looked very good. Too bad it didn't taste as well as it looked. Let's start with the rice. The rice was cold, grainy, a little hard, and tasted like it was prepared the other day. Blah. The pork also lacked flavor- it had a mealy texture and dry. As if the pork pieces were boiled in hot water first as the initial prep which destroyed the texture hoping the black bean sauce would cover the poorly prepared pork pieces- blah, Yuck, awful. However, the veggies (bell pepper:onions) were tasty and prepared well. The sauce was decent but it did have more of a soy sauce flavor than black bean flavor. Would i order this again- nope. never. walk away. I hope their other pork dishes are not boiled in water first as well. blah. Prices are a bit higher with the new owners. But food cost are higher everywhere.. $15 for the broccoli chicken and $12.75 for the spareribs in black bean sauce. Would i come back for the entrees- nope. but perhaps i will try their dim sum another time.

I see the appeal even though I grew up with my mom's cooking and frequent visits to my local Chinatown. Impressively fast service for how busy they were. They immediately sat my friend and I, serving our beef noodle soup in mere minutes and our Xiao Long Bao approximately 10 minutes after. The Xiao Long Bao is acceptable in terms of the filling. However, it's on the drier side which can be partially alleviated by dipping them in soy sauce. I'm seeing that previous reviews share the same sentiment about the dryness. The beef noodle soup left me unimpressed -- substituting the usual beef broth with a tomato soup simply does not work. I'm trying my best not to critique this restaurant from an authenticity standpoint since they don't claim to serve anything true to native roots, but this broth swap made me chuckle. I'm assuming it was a price-saving measure. The beef itself tasted decent, especially with the addition of chili oil. The noodles tasted satisfactory as well, but I would have appreciated a higher proportion of beef relative to noodles. Despite their name, I'd wager a guess that their Chinese-American menu options fare better than the dumplings. Their broccoli beef, kung pao, and orange chicken all looked appetizing when I glanced at other customers' plates. If I do come back, I'll keep my eyes on those.
