We tried out this place quite a few times last year when it was relatively new and I thought the food was decent but silly me always forgot to write a review for it. I had a even better visit few weekends ago so decided not to procrastinate any longer to tell my positive experience here :) The fried intestine was one of my favorite dish here and I'm really happy they got it quite right that its not overly dry and not overly spicy either. The pork mince meat rice was pretty good but definitely I would recommend their main entrees. The scallion pancake beef roll was superb and I liked their unique presentation of serving it like sushi rolls :) The staff were very friendly as I had remembered from last year's visits and last time wasn't any different. The only minor downside would be having to find parking but if you can take bus or bike that definitely would be easier in my opinion. I loved this place none of the dishes we tried disappointed and some had that next level Szechuan peppercorn numbing vibe feel the tripe and tendon cold app to be exact the dumplings were exceptional really the only letdown if you can call it that was the salt and pepper pork chops which were really more of a five spice flavored non breaded style fried pork chop. But they were good in there own way I'm just not really into five spice. I highly recommend this place and look forward to returning. read more

When I am working in Boston this is my go-to place. The food is unassuming, simple, tasty and always served with a smile! Of course, there are the very fancy places to eat at and Boston has its fair share of those, yes 'Dumpling Xuan' can compete with any of them for taste! Every time I have eaten there it's been a super experience in Chinese dining. I've pretty much gone down their excellent menu and eaten my way through most of it, no item I've ordered has ever disappointed. I had never heard anything of this place before stopping in today, but it really blew me away. The decor is fun if a bit garish. Service is very friendly through a bit of a language barrier. The food is superb. We had an order of dumplings, a hot spicy chicken dish, and a noodle soup, all of which were delicious and seemed truly authentic. I'd highly recommend the twice cooked pork, hot and spicy chicken, mini juicy dumplings, hot and sour soup, and Singapore noodles I did try the crispy beef and was not a big fan as it was dry, but that's how the dish is made and is supposed to be dry. Of course we had to try the dumplings - the mini juicy buns with pork were flavorful and the broth was delicious. The scallion pancakes were pretty good and not too greasy. The ma po tofu had a flavorful broth and was decently sized. I was least impressed by the noodle dish we ordered (sautéed flat noodles with beef), but it was still tasty. Dumpling Xuan is a great place for takeout dumplings and buns of different flavors. A short walk from Kendall Square, you can also eat in their cozy dining area as well. I've placed several takeout orders from Dumpling Xuan so far. My favorite dish so far is the steamed pork and leek dumplings, which are plump, juicy, and flavorful. Following close after is the soup dumplings. I'm impressed that the soup dumplings are indeed filled with liquid (not always the case for restaurants that serve soup dumplings). They're best eaten with a spoon so you can easily enjoy the soup that spins out after your first bite. The pan fried Shanghai pork buns have more dough than the dumplings, but are also tasty as well. Combined with another entree, you'll be very full. The scallion and beef rolls are decent. The entrees, which are not always served with rice, are also good. I tried the salt and pepper fish and got a generous portion of highly salted, breaded fish. This restaurant is a good place to satisfy your cravings for dumplings and buns. read more

The restaurant opened three months ago, and the Chinese letters on the glass window of the front door says "Sichuan cuisine restaurant". But their menu seemed to reflect a range of Chinese cuisine. I had a chat with the lady at the front desk, and was told that they had planned for this restaurant for several years. The chef apparently was very well experienced who was previously at the restaurant, Taipei Cuisine, in Quincy. I ordered Spicy Lamb in Hot Pot and it was quite good. I would not say that it was 100% traditional Sichuan style and guess that it might have been evolved in Taiwan. But I liked this mix of the styles. read more

My favorite dishes to order are the soup dumplings, twice cooked pork, the scallion beef roll, and the ma po tofu with fish. Honestly, the menu is expansive, and I haven't had a bad dish yet. Most items run between $10-$20 and for two people you probably want to order 3 items. That makes it more expensive than Mu Lan or Dumpling House. But I think the quality is superior. There's plenty of seating inside, though it can get packed during dinner rush hour. I've order both delivery and take out too.
