    Braised beef noodle soup
    Brad K.

The food was extremely disappointing to say the least. The pork belly was extremely dry and lacked flavor, because of over boiling. The noodle soup was also bland and the broth was extremely murky. I've been here a few times and I told myself I wouldn't come back again but I did anyways to give it another chance. By the time we finished our food, we had still not received the third dish which was the soup dumplings, and I had to ask the waitress to remove the item because they had obviously forgotten about our order. Not really sure what cuisine this is supposed be either, none of the dishes match any one Chinese region.

Went again recently and dined in person. Parking around Taraval is difficult to find though there's a few paid parking spots near the gas station a block up. Portions are large and prices are decent for this neighborhood spot! The interior is spacious and the food comes out quickly. Their pan-fried pork bun is perfectly crisp on the bottom and has flavorful soup! Cons: - There's a bunch of flies all over the place which was very annoying to deal with during the meal - Their wonton in chili oil was bland in both meat and chili oil

I've been coming here regularly for the past 4-5 years, so this review is long overdue! This spot is one of my go-to's, I bring my family and friends here especially if they're new to the city. Food is always fresh, hot, flavorful & delicious! My favorite dishes are the black truffle fried rice, salted egg pumpkin & shrimp, and pork & napa cabbage dumplings. My mom loves their sliced beef & pig ear in chili oil. Cold soy milk is super refreshing on a hot day. The workers are always so nice. Sometimes we'll see the owner & chit chat with him. Parking can be relatively easy outside of lunch and dinner peak time.

If you're coming here on a holiday, or maybe even just a busy weekend, snag a reservation on yelp! I grabbed a reservation on Father's Day day of for 6pm and got seated right away despite a long waitlist. I'm glad we came with a large group because we were able to order a lot and try a bunch of items. We ordered a bunch of dim sum, and got chow mein, chow fun and fried rice. The standout for us was the sticky rice roll! I've been wanting to try it out for a while and was extremely happy to see they had it here. I also really enjoyed the pan friend dumpling, it was extremely flavorful and juicy! As far as the other food, everything was decent, good at best. Pretty standard in terms of dim sum, with nothing that really wow'd us. The service here was great! Despite it being a full house with constant to-go orders, we were able to order quickly and got our food really fast as well. Everything came out fresh and piping hot which I really appreciated. Enjoyed my experience here, but not particularly eager to go back right away. Definitely worth a try if you're craving dimsum in the area!

    | June 21, 2026 | Pretty upsetting to give a negative review on this spot. Came here for Father's Day where we called to see what the wait time was and it was communicated plenty of tables available. PERFECT! Upon arrival there were two other tables with people but no front of house presence or greeting before an employee eventually came out. She asked us how many people and if we had called. Since we were a party of 5 we asked her if we could sit at a particular open table that was open so it would give us space with one of the filled tables and was just told no and that we needed to sit at this other one that had the same amount of seating. The other table was then filled an hour later as we were leaving! Odd and we didn't understand why we couldn't have been seated at that one. The other two tables received much friendlier attention than us where we had to flag someone down to place our order with a male waiter who was better than the female waitress but not that much better. Our pan fried dumplings was under cooked and it was cold in the center when my dad ate one. The female waitress took the order to the open table behind us and proceeded to open them all so it was uncomfortable for her to do that vs. apologizing and taking the order to the back. When the new order finally did come out it was cooked almost to the brink of burnt. You can see the difference in the photos and there is no edits made. Please make note my sister is 7 months pregnant. Not how we thought our meal was going to be for Father's Day and my bro in law treated us. We were so disappointed in this restaurant and we have eaten, ordered and even had this place catered for work in the past.

Excellent dum sum in the delightful and fun Castro. It's in a lovely building with pretty rainbow-colored art on the walls and dim sum related art in the lobby. We were seated in what felt like it once was a sun room? It was a few steps up from the main dining room. Very cozy with windows. We had the pork and shrimp shumai. They had soy sauce and chili oil--but no chili flakes in the oil (which I prefer). Service was attentive and pleasant. So many menu choices. I'd love to visit again.

#14 eat local in the 'hood 2026 list. I'm still focused on supporting local small businesses in the neighborhood. It'd been awhile since eating here. This was my first pick up order. I ordered from their homepage as I'd planned to pick up. The website said it'd be ready in 20+ minutes. It was ready when I got there in 25+ minutes. Ordered- * beef chow fun. Excellent wok umami. Slices of beef were very tender. * Shanghai style stir fried rice cakes with pork. The rice cakes stuck together. Good but I recall this dish being better. * salt and pepper spare ribs. Hubby and daughter enjoyed this dish. The batter reminded me of tempura. Good portion sizes.

Sometimes you eat a meal you just know you'll be reliving in your dreams at night...Dumpling Kitchen blew me away! Immediately when we sat they dropped a huge pot of jasmine tea at the table. We ordered a feast and everything came out perfectly and within minutes. It's not a fancy spot but it was clean and there's good seating for small to medium sized parties.

Dumpling Kitchen is a great place to grab a meal if you're in the area. I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here again since its far, but I would come back. Let's start with the great. Service was good and the space was clean--there wasn't much more you can ask out of a dumpling restaurant. We ordered the soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings, and beef noodles. Out of that list I would only recommend the pan fried dumplings because it was a step up from good. The soup in it was piping hot, the pan fried skin was crunchy, and the flavors were delicious. The rest met the criteria's of a good dish but nothing out of the ordinary. Its solid. More of a preference than anything, I wish the soup dumpling skin was thinner because it's quite thick. The soup inside was good otherwise. The only con of course is their location. You have to find parking within the neighborhoods nearby and have to walk a few blocks depending on how busy it is. There isn't parking directly in front, making it not really wheelchair accessible. So with that said if you're looking for a solid quick bite, I definitely recommend Dumpling Kitchen.

Very busy and popular spot on Taraval Street for dumplings! Ambience can be quite loud during their meal rushes but service was fast and servers were kind. However, we needed to follow-up a few times for various requests - water, boxes to-go, etc. which was slightly frustrating to handle due to few staff serving customers. This visit wasn't the best experience, but from past visits I would not discount the quality and flavor of the food here! Definitely worth checking out. 5/5 - Shanghai-Style Pan-Fried Pork Buns - Star of the show and appropriately one of their most popular dishes. The crunchy bottom with the soft top makes this fun to eat, just make sure you don't burn from the soup inside! Seasoned well and left us wanting more to order! 5/5 - Black Truffle Beef Fried Rice - One of the best fried rice dishes I have had. You can taste a perfect blend of the truffle with the umami flavor of the beef in this savory dish. Couldn't stop eating it and perfectly paired with the dumplings we ordered. 5/5 - Xiao Long Bao - Loved the soup and the flavors of these dumplings. Great to match with your other dishes because the portions are generous here. Classic dish to order and is steamed perfectly to order. 4.5/5 - Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings - Large wings that were cooked perfectly! The meat was very juicy and was seasoned well. We thought it was a tad too salty but couldn't blame them for what the dish is supposed to be. Definitely satisfied our fix for chicken wings! 4/5 - Shanghai-Style Chow Mein - Your normal chow mein dish that was savory and well-seasoned. The portion was very generous and we had lots leftover to take home. Nothing too special though with this dish and it was great to pair with the dumplings we ordered. 3/5 - Wontons in Chili Oil - The dish seemed a bit bland/under-seasoned with their house-made chili oil sauce. The wontons itself were decent, though not outstanding. Aesthetically, it looked appetizing with its scallion garnish but otherwise could have used a stronger flavor in sauce.

Sticky rice roll: Must order, the donut roll was crunchy combined with the pork floss. It is cut into 4 pieces and wrapped in plastic Shanghai style pan fried buns: Filled with hot soup and crispy bottom garnished with green onions, must get and the top dish for the meal. Shanghai style stir fried rice cakes with pork: chewy texture for the rice cakes with lots of veggies mixed in. not overly salty or oily. Shanghai style steamed pork dumplings: tender pork on the inside, but not enough soup in them and the skin was thick. Shredded ginger is not provided and available on request. Green onion pancake: mostly dough with no green onion flavor, pass on this to save your money and order another appetizer Sesame glutinous rice balls in sweet rice wine: smooth rice balls of sesame for a nutty taste, there is the smell of cooking wine but it is overall light in flavor The restaurant was packed with patrons, but it didn't feel cramped. Inside was clean and bright. Service was decent and they had to attend to lots of table. Solid place

Hear me out. Expensive, yes. But completely worth it! Such a great and unusual variety of options for dumplings, potstickers, buns, entrees, and all the other comfort food you're looking for. I absolutely love their food. Make sure to arrive early or order in advance, as the food can take a while when they're slammed which seems to be quite often. Completely worth found back to over and over again.

I really like this restaurant. The fried truffle rice with beef is very tasty. I hope they are less tasty cos there may be too much MSG. The shrimps are amazing, especially paired with the white sauce and Ubereats discounts! Cheers.

Fried donut stick, pork meat floss, and some garnish.

Does your restaurant use any peanuts, peanut oil, or vegetable oil in your cooking? My niece has peanut 🥜 allergy so want to make sure before bringing her to your restaurant.

They use peanut product - the items that have it in it are marked. But if there is a peanut allergy, this is probably not the best restaurant because of potential cross-contamination.

Do you take reservations for dinner?

Yes on yelp! But if made by phone call, it must be a minimum of 6 guests that your reserving.

The defining hurdle of a visit is the notorious wait time, where customers routinely stand on the sidewalk for an hour or more just to be squeezed into a cramped, noisy, and basic dining room. While the legendary original dry-fried chicken wings are decent, they ultimately fall short of their mythical reputation; the signature sweet-and-spicy glaze leans incredibly saccharine and sticky, masking meat that often turns out slightly dry and over-fried. Beyond the signature wings, the rest of the extensive menu feels surprisingly ordinary and heavy-handed with sodium, making standard dishes like the black bean sauce noodles and string beans feel like ordinary takeout rather than a destination meal. Combined with a hurried front-of-house staff operating an "all-business" conveyor belt to clear tables quickly, the rushed environment and inflated, ala-carte pricing leave you feeling like you paid premium time and money for what is ultimately a standard neighborhood Chinese spot. Anyway, having tried it, I can say it was good, but not so good that I'd expend that much energy to secure the reservation. Have to say, service was really great. Servers were attentive without being overbearing, which is always welcome. We ordered several dishes and dined, as they suggested, family style. To start, we were given two complimentary dishes, the roasted peanuts and the smashed cucumbers; both were nice appetizers. We ordered the Chiu Chow green beans, the Mongolian beef noodles, the claypot rice with lop cheung and bacon, the salt 'n peppa prawns, and the whole fried petrale sole, the last two being on the day's "specials" board. The winning dish was definitely the green beans. All the food was good, but seemed to be a bit overly salted and highly spiced. The piece of beef I had from the Mongolian beef noodles was tender, but one of my friends thought her piece was a bit tough and too chewy; we all thought the beef could have been cut into smaller or thinner pieces. We also shared two desserts since it was a birthday celebration (there are only three options offered). We had the red bean shaved ice and the mango pudding. Both were good (not "oh, boy, yummy" good, but good). Nice to try. The price wasn't outrageous ($200 including tax and tip), but I think this will be a "been there, done that" experience for me unless a friend absolutely wants to go again.
