Chongqing noodle
Tony W.

Had the chongqing noodles Noodle texture is not at all what you would get in authentic chongqing noodles - supposed to be thinner noodle, less chewy. Bakchoi is standard. Carrots were undercooked Peas were also non traditional as the dish usually uses yellow pea, not green pea from frozen bag Soup, to be determined will see if I get a msg reaction today $16 for a low ingredient cost dish is pretty steep, even in Burlingame

Came by after a nearby appointment. The beef noodle soup had a solid, flavorful soup and pretty al dente noodles. Wish the beef came with tendons as well. Add in suan cai and I think it would have been a really strong niu rou mian choice. Still good though and would eat this again. The chongqing noodles packed a little too much heat with my health issues lately, but I thought the it was pretty good from what I could taste. The xiao long bao was surprisingly good. Skin wasn't too soggy, good amount of soup, meat wasn't too fatty. I think they're missing ginger with their vinegar, though. Wagyu dumplings were okay. I'll have to try pork, shrimp and chives next time. All in all, nice to have one Asian option in the sea of Italian here. Now downtown San Mateo needs more Italian in its sea of mostly East Asian restaurants. Friendly and accommodating service. Helpful and attentive, like that new restaurant opening vibe. I was surprised to find out they'd been open a year. I guess it's because I wouldn't think to come to Burlingame for Asian.

4.25 stars. Corner restaurant Dumpling Kitchen & Bar is clean & modern, & a year after its opening, still has that new-restaurant feel. Bar seating is great for solo diners. There are a few patio tables for when the weather warms up. We sat at a two-top inside, which would've been too small had the kitchen not staggered our dishes. We've been here a couple of times now & the dishes worth ordering over & over were the Grapefruit Bacon Asparagus Rolls and Hot & Spicy Dumplings with its mouth-numbing Sichuan sauce. As with all of the dishes we've tried, Har Gow is high quality; loved the plump, flavorful shrimp inside & delicate wrapping. Their Lime Passionfruit sparkling drink is unique & not too sweet. Although sufficiently tasty, a few menu items didn't make the cut our second time 'round: XLB Platter (it had a Tom Yum variety that had an odd, sour taste); both flavors of Chicken Wings, Mustard, as well as Secret Sauce; & Wagyu Dumplings. Date nites are extra delicious at Dumpling Kitchen & Bar.

I was craving some dumplings and didn't want to go far, so stayed around my neighborhood. Everyone seems to rave about this place so finally tried it. I loved the wagyu dumplings! The family loved the pan fried buns. Service was good, in the end someone asked how we liked our food & made sure we were good. We didn't go inside as it was too nice out and wanted to enjoy the outdoor.

The venue and service were fine but I felt the food was lacking. Nothing really stood out for me based on the price I paid. As for someone who consumes Chinese food often I can say it's not bad but wish it was better to be honest. It's a chill space for lunch and they have a full bar.

Just average for the 2 dishes I tried. Beef noodle soup - noodle chewiness was pretty good but cannot withstand prolonged time in the soup if you have leftovers. Soup needed more depth of flavor and a hint more salt. I'm not a fan of broccoli or undercooked carrots in the soup. Pork pan fried buns - comes out piping hot and with lots of soup inside (yay!) so be careful not to burn yourself. Outside bun a little too thick. Inside pork filling was too little and super soft and loose - melt in your mouth but not in an appetizing way. Willing to return to try other dishes next time though!

Excited to see this pop up in Downtown Burlingame! I dined here midafternoon on a weekday and was surprised to see how quickly it became crowded. I think the food meets or exceeds expectations and fulfills an unmet need in this downtown area. I am particularly impressed by the number of vegetarian options as well and would like to return here to try their drinks someday. I ordered: - pan fried green beans: really enjoyed the texture, super flavorful. a classic! - steamed soup xlb: was VERY impressed with the thinness of the dough and amount of broth inside. it was a little bland, but I felt the overall construction of the xlb was incredible - three flavor dumpling: impressed by the amount of filling (shrimp included) and texture of the dough. it was cooked well. I did feel that the flavor of the chives took over, so may be an acquired taste? - dan dan noodles: for those who want a lighter szechuan flavor, I think these noodles were incredible. It may not be as spicy as other dishes, but I don't think any flavor was sacrificed for a lighter numbing sensation

The flavor of the food is top notch. Fresh clean ingredients. Amazingly flavorful. Highly recommend. Service is great, very nice and thoughtful staff. The pork buns have soup inside! What a great surprise. The flavor of the pork is delish. It's on the Ave so typical parking. You can order online, at the kiosk, or join waitlist inside the door. Highly recommend. One of the best dumplings I've had! The pork buns with soup inside is my favorite. They also have other unique flavors.

A friend and I decided to try Dumpling Kitchen and Bar since it's a fairly new restaurant in Burlingame. The location is right on corner of busy Burlingame Ave. I think there used to be a Japanese restaurant here before DK&B. On a weeknight around dinner time, the place was about 3/4 full. Immediately upon walking in, I realized this is like no other dumpling place I've been to before. First off, there is a full bar. The lighting fixtures and interior are really trendy and modern. We ordered the steamed soup XLB (8/10), shrimp toast (7/10), pork pan fried buns (9/10) - thanks to the two people next to us who burned their tongues and squirted soup broth on their shirts, we got advanced warning this was going to be a messy and juicy dish!, and Dandan noodles (6/10). Everything was really yummy. Service was wonderful. Our server was really helpful in helping us decide what to order. They also didn't rush us to leave even though we were done with our meal and was just sitting around catching up. I can't wait to bring my family here to checkout this new find and to try more dishes!

Crystal Shrimp Dumpling

We visited Dumpling Kitchen & Bar on a Monday evening and got seated with no reservation. The interior looked new and modern, with a large bar. For drinks, I stuck with water but tried a sip of my friend's Lime Passion Fruit beverage, which was delicious! For food, I was a bit limited as a non-pork eater. I ended up getting the Crystal Shrimp Dumplings and Secret Chicken Wings. The Crystal Shrimp Dumplings were very tasty, and came as an order of 3 pieces. I liked the sauce and spice level of the Secret Chicken Wings - definitely a more filling item. I think they could've been a bit saucier though, or maybe come with a dipping sauce on the side. My friend enjoyed their items as well, including the Sichuan Hot & Spicy Dumplings, Chicken Pot Stickers, and Steamed Soup XLB. Service was quick and efficient!

V14 Mapo Tofu Dumpling (6 pcs)
Michael S.

My boss was in town for meetings and suggested we try the dumpling place down the street from Limon. Ok cool. Wow! Was so good. I try to stay mostly veg so I was thrilled at their extraordinary selection of meatless dumplings and noodle dishes - the Mapo Tofu Dumplings in particular were stellar, and I liked the Scallion Oil Noodles too. I also did try some non-veg fare which was also great. The beautiful red, white and blue XLB combination and especially the Sichuan Spicy Wontons were fantastic. My boss also liked his wonton soup but I skipped that one. I was also struck by the attractive signage and branding which is probably what lured us in. I'll admit I was confused by the name - I hear D&B and think Dun & Bradstreet but maybe that'll help me remember this restaurant. There's so much more on the menu I want to try - there's old favorites like Scallion Pancake and Hot & Sour Soup, Sichuan Dandan Noodle, Sui Mai, and the Zephyr Miso Soup sounds good to me - really, everything does. Great place. Will come back.

Beef Roll

Dumpling Kitchen & Bar is outstanding. The service is good and the food totally delicious. I love dumplings so I couldn't wait to try this place. We ordered the Thai Tom Yum XLB (Xiao Long Bau), Shrimp Toast, Beef Roll, Mapo Tofu Steamed Dumplings, and Pan-Fried Bun With Chicken & Corn. The dumpling shapes were creative and interesting. The 5 dishes were enough food for the 3 of us to satisfy our hunger. This establishment is a winner in my eyes. The teapot is beautiful. The vinegar, soy sauce, and chili oil containers are eye catching. The place is spacious with plenty of seating inside, and they also have outdoor seating. They do not have a parking lot. Downtown Burlingame is a busy place. Everyone is looking for street parking. There is a city parking lot with meters a block away (across the street from Il Fornaio). We were able to find parking there.

We popped in on a Tuesday evening at about 8pm and it was pretty full. The space is bright with indoor and outdoor seating and a long dumpling bar. Listen up, before this spot, I could say I've never met a dumpling I didn't like. Sadly, after dining here, I now can say I actually met a few dumplings I didn't like. While the dumplings were filled and meaty, the flavor profile of all four sets were off. The spicy shumai were intensely flavored: the pork tasted sour with this spiced heat. One dumpling had a very strong cumin flavor (maybe cumin or some other spice I can't put my finger on) and lastly, the xlb were flavorless. Overall, not my favorite. Their menu has so many other options, so I'd be remiss to not say I'm sure other items are better.

Their customer service is lacking and if they were honest in the beginning when we first called to make reservations they should have told us first come first serve to allow us to plan accordingly by arriving earlier or making plans with a venue that honored reservations. Food: BBQ buns and fried rice are good. Parking: it's the worst and really tight spaces. Cars were bumper to bumper. I found parking right away and they seated us almost immediately close to the Bay view windows. It was super busy with people waiting outside and inside was loud and lively (just how you want a dim sim place to be)! Inside is pretty nice and the view is honestly worth it. We ordered the dim sum classics: siu mai, ha gow, rice rolls, chicken feet, ma lai go, beef balls, salted egg yolk lava buns. Everything was honestly solid and portions were bigger than I expected. The dim sum menu is also pretty vast, but some classic dishes have different names so always ask the server. We also got some Chinese herb and fermented rice wine soup.....so good and a lot of chicken in it. Total for our party of 4 came out to be $105 (including their 16% service charge). Honestly not bad at all for the food we got (not all pictured), the fast service, and great views. This might be my new dim sum spot on the Peninsula! We went a bit wild and ordered the following (let's just say we had tons left over): -steamed surf clam w/ vermiccelli in galic sauce (3.5/5; clams tasted decent but I didn't love the texture. clams paired well with noodles and sauce -duo egg fried rice (4/5; my group enjoyed this dish. Large portion) -signature fried rice noodles (4.25/5; good portion and lots of seafood/meat. flavor was good but nothing amazing and quite a good value.) Note, we didn't order this dish but it was beside the dish we ordered on the list/menu and they didn't/couldn't change the order despite letting them know within minutes... -chicken feet in herbal broth (3.75/5; the chicken feet were cooked well and the broth was nice but I was expecting pan fried chicken feet, which i would have preferred. The broth was herbal and comforting) -fried crispy turnip cake in XO sauce (4.5/5; quite nice. crispy and satisfying) -chicken in honey pepper sauce (3/5; sauce left a lot to be desired. Chicken was juicy and cooked well though) -sautéed chinese bocolli (4/5; standard and simple but good) -bbq pork rice noodle rolls (4/5; pretty good. Nice pairing btw the bbq pork and rice noodle), -crispy wild rice shrimp noodle rolls (5/5; my favorite dish. The shrimp were fried which was a nice textural contrast with the rice noodle. It came in a good sauce) -steamed shrimp dumpling (5/5; exactly as advertised. Big, juice, delicious) -siu mai (3.75/5; the flavor for these was good but I feel they were too big to enjoy comfortably in one bite. Not my favorite shu mai) -steamed bbc pork buns (didn't try but my group enjoyed) -Portuguese backed custard tarts (4/5; not too sweet and satisfying. Interesting texture.) -parboiled tripe (4/5; tripe was cooked very well and tender but the sauce was underwhelming Overall, the cook on most of these dishes was spot on but the flavoring left some to be desired. I might come back but I'm definitely still in search of a go-to dim sum spot.

We decided to order a variety of dim sum, the Signature Peking Duck (half), and the Pan Seared Seafood Noodles. Everything was delicious. The presentation of the Peking Duck was beautiful. They used momo pancakes instead of steamed bao. It's not a duck chopped in half. It's an offering of crispy thin duck skin, with chunks of boneless duck meat underneath. Served with cucumber, radlish, scallions and hoisin sauce. I think my favorite dim sum was the Yuzu Walnut Prawn Puff. Crunchy fried prawns w/ yuzu sauce, and candied walnuts. It's considered an elevated modern dish. Don't forget to check out the koi pond with live fish on the community table top. Free parking in mall lot.
