I can not believe this place us still here. It has been about a decade since my last visit. Since my wife had never been and we were passing by around lunch time we went in for an early lunch. A very friendly lady greeted us, brought us menus, and got our drinks. Then another person cane over to take our order. I ordered a chicken bisquit & Fries, she had a BLT sandwich and fries. Simple country diner with good prices. Stopped by after church and got their red plate special - $9.99 for meat of the day, 2 veg, and 2 cornbread. Food came out quickly. Maaaaaaaan I've passed by this spot for years but haven't gotten a chance to check it out until recently. I'm so mad it's taken me this long. I grew up on the "2 sides and meat" yummy eats. The inside of the restaurant is much bigger than it looks from the outside. Staff is friendly and they turn the orders pretty quickly. I have to give a special shout-out on their strawberry cake. I love a good strawberry cake... and Rexall Grill does it right. Definitely worth checking in out if you're in the mood for some southern eats in the Duluth area. read more

Not impressed with new management. Canceled and refunded Groupons I had already purchased and now no longer participates in the SkyMiles dining program. Based on their Facebook post, or lack thereof, they look more interested in promoting political agendas than their food. The two incidents mentioned above show their lack of commitment to their customers. They need to realize they're not the only joint in town that serves Comfort food. Been living in the area since 1994 and have heard so many good things about this place the whole time, but for no explainable reason I've never been. Well, I dined there for the first time today and realized I have been missing out. Rexall Grill is everything I thought it would be, been told and read about. I was there for a mid afternoon meal (I had not had lunch yet) at around 3:00 p. m., so there were very few people there. Had the plate special for the day which was the Country Fried Steak with sides of green beans and butter beans, plus a biscuit. It was all delicious and I scarfed every bit of it down, cleaning my plate which would have made any mother proud. Sat in a booth, but I think next time I'll sit at the counter. It is a nice, yep drug store counter, vibe. Not that it is bad or good, but the wait staff are a bit eclectic, perhaps slow, but the food far outweighs it. I think next time I'll try the Chicken and Dumplings which, when YOU walk in, you'll agree is a place that has the feel it has should not only cook up a good meal of Southern Fried Steak, but Chicken and Dumplings, too! :) read more

We love going to the Rexall Grill for date night. The food is always fresh and tasty, and we love the chocolate cake at the end of the meal. My wife also swears that the Diet Coke tastes better for some reason so we love that too. I get the grilled chicken sandwich since that's my favorite lunch meal and they make it very well. Haven't been here since I retired in 2020 (used to be a regular on Fridays for lunch with 3 other coworkers). I heard it had changed owners and found a great deal on Groupon. My friend and I couldn't believe how AHMAZING it looked on the inside! Everything was new... the counter with new stools, flooring, all new booths, tables, and chairs, plus they had like 6 tvs big ones on the side where the grill is too be. We didn't see any familiar faces, but the lady that was our server was new, but she did a good job seeing as how she'd only been there a week. My friend had the country fried steak with gravy, mashed potatoes, and green beans. I had a veggie plate that had Mac n cheese, broccoli casserole, green beans, and rice with gravy. After our first bite, we knew the same cooks were there ! Thank goodness! We chose biscuits with our meals bc another server told us that the corn muffins were now kinda sweet, and if you are a true southern than you don't eat sweet corn bread at least we don't! We also had 2 coffees. The Groupon was for $30, and the bill total was $28.54, so our server said we were all good and she left! I'm not sure if the remaining 1.46 was her tip or if a tip was already added because we never got a bill. Finally we saw a woman that we recognized come to find out she was the original owner from 1978 until 2004. She said she only worked 3 days a week and that there were a few people still working there that we knew, but they worked the AM shift. She makes the ABSOLUTE BEST HAMBURGERS on the flat top, which is what we went for but didn't order bc we didn't see her . I have her schedule now, so we will be going back soon! She also said that the new owner had thought about making the place a sports bar, but the location just wasn't happening even with all mega amount of new apartments surrounding it. Of course, there are 2 breweries plus several other restaurants in the Duluth area for the younger crowd to visit, and they don't mind traveling 40/50 miles to downtown to get their grub on. She also said that the new owner was probably going back to the old hours of 6am till 3pm. Guess he figured out it is the regulars that keep the Duluth Rexall Grill going like they have for 50 years! If you've never been please go the food is fantastic and if you use to go please go back they need your business! It is an iconic place in Duluth and is still wonderful as always. Don't forget to grab a slice of their homemade cakes. They are divine! read more

Ummm. Too bad I can't give .5 stars. We came because they advertised "homemade buttermilk biscuits". Not sure whose house they were made at but please. Don't invite me. Ever. As a matter of fact - I'm busy with a prior engagement on whatever say of your shindig. The biscuit was undone in the middle to me. The gravy was gross. I've had better at McDonald's. Who puts American slice cheese in grits? And they were gross. And this is Georgia - how do you mess up grits! Shame on me for living in the area and it took me 13 years to eat here!!! Man, was it good and now, I know why there are cars galore some mornings! I'm not usually a breakfast person but this just hit the spot. I ordered an omelette with ham, cheese, and all the veggies I could get in it like mushroom, onion, spinach, tomatoes, peppers....I may be leaving something out? It was delicious and not over cooked! Grits were creamy and, my oh my, the biscuit! Huge and not bitter, soft inside. It was goood! I've come before for lunch, cause I like country cooking with a list choice of veggie sides. This is one of those restaurants where half the menu is traditional diner type food and the other half was Asian, which is different than the usual place. So I had a breakfast biscuit and some egg rolls. Both were good and we enjoyed the visit. The service was a little slow for the amount of people in there, but all in all, a good experience. read more

Had been to the Rexall Grill several times in the past and had fond memories of some true country cookin'. Found myself in the area after tending to some business close by and decided to stop by for some good food as I remembered! The ambiance was pretty much the same but the food was not! It's the same great food much like the diners in NJ except it's in the South and rather than going into the political differences let's just concentrate on the common ground...the food. There really isn't much that has changed except that they got rid of the bar seating and the tables have been spaced further apart. Food is still great and the hospitality has not changed. You can still get pancakes as big as your face, extremely awesome full-fat sausage patties and coffee for under 10 bucks. You do order and pay first before sitting and it does get very busy for breakfast until about 10am. We arrived at about 11am on a Thursday so it was very empty. I still ordered pancakes. My friend ordered a custom omelette with crispy (yes! Not burnt) hash browns and the other friend ordered just 1 pancake and sausage. Service was fast at that moment, about 10 minutes. Nice fast service. Drive thru option is great. Bacon egg and cheese biscuit had perfect crispy bacon strips in it. So often other places mess up bacon and give you soggy pieces, but this place is great. Grits were a tad watery and high salt but still good. Will come back. read more

When you walk into Rexall, you have entered a Duluth institution. We have lived in the area for 23 years and it has been around for longer than that. When you come in you will most likely see people that have lived in Duluth their entire lives. It's awesome. There is nothing fancy about the food but if you can't find something you love on the menu, something is wrong. There are big white boards posted with the meats and vegetables for the day, along with dessert options. As they run out of something, it gets erased from the board. Even though there is an extensive menu, the board is where you really want to look and choose. The portions are large and definitely comfort food at its finest. If they are offering the banana pudding, be sure to try it. It comes out warm and you will want to lick the bowl. My friend had the strawberry cake and said it's her favorite. I think EVERYONE needs to come to the Rexall at least once. You will hear great stories and be treated like a new friend. read more

A few of us came here for lunch last week . It's your traditional meat & three, and they've got pretty much all the American standards. Burgers, pot roast, meatloaf, etc. I went for their lunch special - meat and 2 sides. I had the meatloaf, the mac & cheese, and the creamed potatoes. It also came with a choice of bread, so I chose a biscuit. Someone else ordered a burger and was offered onion rings as a side. That sounded so good, so I ordered a side of OR myself. When the food came out, I was pretty happy with it. Tastes like home :) Nothing really sticks out as fantastic, OMG yum (except the onion rings but I think that's because I was just really, really craving them). Meatloaf was tasty, mac and cheese was OK, my potatoes were good- be sure to get gravy. Biscuit was good as well, they actually gave me 2 and boy... I just felt like it was SO MUCH FOOD. This place is ultra-casual, nearly blast-from-the-past. I'd come back here only with friends or coworkers I'm really comfortable with because it feels a lot like borderline cafeteria. So while the food is just fine it's not a place you want to bring your boss or anyone you're looking to impress. Overall I was happy, but I'm not sure I'll be back. Everytime I Yelp breakfast spots this local establishment rises to the top and now I know why. My first time, I chose to sit at the counter on one of the comfy tall, vintage chairs, the worn, yet clean laminate countertop spilling out the ghostly images of many past wonderful meals served over the years. I ordered a veggie omelette with cheese, home fries and soft buttery biscuits. All excellent. The establishment is run by a team of talented women from the dishwasher to the line cooks and servers. What a great classic diner with great service and great food. They have probably one of the best and largest biscuits I've ever had! My dad and I stopped by here after doing a 5k in Duluth and it really hit the spot! We had a great conversation with the lady working up front as she was checking us out. Growing up in Duluth, Rexall has been a long-time staple. We would go after the Fall Festival, school events, and family get-togethers. However, I and my family will no longer give our business to this establishment. On our last visit, there was more staff than customers when we arrived and they spent their time talking in a group instead of helping customers. Were rude from the start and then served my wife cold food. When we mentioned it they took the plate away for a few minutes and brought it back smiling asking if it was better.
