I usually only go to this restaurant around the holidays.This has been my custom since the transition of my spouse. The food is usually good, although through the years, the portions have decreased as the price has increased. I am writing this review because of a failing customer service response recently. I ordered my normal baked chicken all white meat and sides; however, I received some white and dark. I don't care for legs or thighs, and that's what I received along with breast and wing. When I pointed out that's not what I ordered, I was told that's how they do this on Sundays. I requested a refund as not what I ordered and told no. There's no consideration that there's no mention of this policy on the website, or I would have ordered something different....I feel this exception for Sundays should be posted and some accommodation should have been made because it wasn't...Just saying no is not a customer service policy! read more

They make people so irritated by the wait that they have an armed security guard outside! (Though he was nice and respectful). They really need to work on their efficiency. When you walk up you'll see a large bunch of irritated looking people, waiting on orders that are taking 30-45 minutes! I asked what the wait was and was told 15 minutes. So I thought people were just being impatient. If they would have been honest and said 45 minutes I would have not ordered. The employees were nice, but the management should just tell people the wait is an hour. Then they wouldn't get angry. And update their online ordering system. ***Even if you order online it may take 10 minutes for them to hand you your food. **** Very confusing because the only thing that is made to order is the fish. Maybe they need more employees, but I did see employees on break while there are 26 people waiting! I will not return and cannot recommend this place. Today August 16, 2022 will be my last time ordering any food from Dulan's. I have ordered short ribs twice within the last seven days and both times the meat was tough. The ribs are being cut against the grain. The smothered pork chops were not served with rice and gravy and we're also tough. The side orders were not what I ordered and I requested that my order be placed in two bags and that was not done either. The cornbread muffins were burnt on both sides. I don't know what's going on over there but, they don't have to worry about me coming back ever again. read more

The line was long but it made for good conversation with some really cool ladies since I don't waste my time in conversation with dudes. First time ordering the ox tail dinner... it was old, not fresh, chewy and dry even the gravy could not help it. It came with black eyed peas, but instead of putting the rice under the peas, they were under the ox tails. Yams were not cooked well, just half done. I didn't know they had one window for placing an order and another for picking up food. The window facing the street is where the pre placed orders are picked up at. ( I didn't know this) so I go to pick up my order apparently at the wrong window and the young woman gives me a dirty look and says "go pick it up over there" and points behind her. The food is AMAZINGLY good! My first time eating here, it won't be my last! They were gracious with the portions. Whewww I had sweet tea w/ lemonade (first time) it was really good! Usually when I crave soul food this is my go to, the location seems to never make a difference to me they have all been pretty consistent. The portions are nice, they try to get you in and out as quickly as possible. Customer service is a hit or miss depending where you go and how busy it is. I've never dined in at any of them but they aren't to big but there's still tables if you want that as an option. Parking isn't the best at any of them either but at least you don't have to pay. Whenever I go I get either fried or baked chicken, dinner portions come with 3 sides and 2 cornbreads. I chose yams, Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes. Everything is fresh and piping hot they are constantly switching out trays especially during a rush. I wasn't satisfied with how it tasted this time around, but I can't expect perfection everytime. The yams weren't sweet, the Mac n cheese needed more love It was burnt and dry and the mashed potatoes had so much pepper in them it was unpleasant. My mom wanted Dylan's for her Mother's Day dinner. I figured they'd be extremely crowed so I called in the order as opposed to waiting in line for half of the afternoon. I called in and placed the order for one smothered chicken dinner. The gentleman who answered the phone said "it's now 12:42 and your order will be ready in 45 minutes". I replied wow, that long and he said yes, we're packed. So I figured I'd use that 45 minutes to run a few errands. By the time I finished running errands it was 12:35 and I arrived at Dulans at 1:45, 15 minutes after the scheduled time my food was to be ready. Well long story short my food still wasn't ready. I ended up waiting almost 30 to get my one dinner. A gentleman kept telling me it'll be just a minute. At one point he brought me four dinners and I told him that wasn't my order then I had to wait another 10 minutes. I was livid and if it hadn't been Mother's Day I would have stormed out. What mad me most upset was they weren't even crowded and at Dulan's all the food is already prepared like (cafeteria style) so it's not as though they are cooking it as ordered. I would have been better off getting in line when I first arrived as opposed to waiting almost 40 minutes for a pick up order that wasn't ready. Was going to get fried chicken, but this girl in line mentioned that everything there is good except the chicken since it's not seasoned enough. I was bummed, but only for a minute. Best thing about this spot is you can sample the food before buying! Tried the short ribs and let me tell you FELL OFF THE BONE AND FREAKING DELICIOUS!! I didn't care that they didn't have the other stuff. So good. Got that with rice and gravy, Mac n cheese and greens. Short ribs: 5 stars! Man this was the best! Plus they give you so much freaking food! Rice and gravy: 4 stars perfect blend of both. I've honestly never has this but it was really good with my ribs Mac and cheese 4 stars perfect amount of cheese. It wasn't too dry either or too wet. Greens: 4 stars. They cook it with turkey and it was very good. Wish it had a tad bit more salt, but way better then over salting it Peach cobbler: 5 stars! It was fresh out the over and it was freaking amazing!! The worst thing is they don't care about the customer's experience; they just sell soul food. The Century Blvd location was ridiculous this Sunday, March 14,2021. They need to go back to the original way of making the order as it is place to get people out the door. I Took an out-of- town guest for good soul food and was sad that she had such a bad experience. It was a complete fiasco. Such a shame because the food is ready and all they have to do is take the order, take the money and make the plates. It could be so simple but no, some people were waiting over an hour. We try so hard to support mom and pop, black owned establishments but you run into these unnecessary situations that make you think twice about going back. What had happened was; the line was long (no surprise) and not moving. So we ordered online separately but back to back. The pick-up times given we're back to back as well. Then a lady announces online orders are ready. Well only one order was ready and they were "working on" the other order. It took over 30 minutes and a lot of other orders getting picked up before the other order was ready. This happened to at least 6 other customers while we were there. In addition, the lady at the pick up window gave out the wrong order to someone and acted like it was the customer's fault. First, the food. My wife and I traveled to LA for a conference. Similar to many Americans, this was our first travel in the past 1.5 years. I have family who live in the area and they have raved about Dulan's, so we decided we would eat there on the first night. I ordered the fried chicken, Mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes and gravy. This came with dressing and stuffing and corn bread muffins. Good lord, the portions! I could not believe how much food we received. This will definitely be a two night dinner and everything was incredible. Fried chicken was crispy and I received four pieces. All of the sides were incredible as well. The Service This would have been a 5 score if it wasn't for the wait time. There were a lot of people in line and we were confused by the ordering system. You can place online orders or order at the site. No one understood how the ordering system worked, as numbers were not sequential with the online ordering. We were at the site about 1 1/2 hours, waiting outside. Not being from the area, this may be due to COVID protocols, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Today was my first time trying Dulans. My man raved about Dulans on Manchester so we figured this location would be good too. Wrong. The Mac n cheese was soggy and flavorless. It seems like they made the cheese sauce and just sprinkled a little bit of cheese. I ordered the oxtails and my man ordered the short ribs. Both tasted like they were seasoned with lemon pepper. It was the weirdest thing. I bought a slice of red velvet cake, it looked great but when I smelled it, it had a fruity smell. When I tasted it, I could have sworn I tasted cherry. The fried chicken was good but I have to say the best restaurant fried chicken I've had has been at KFC. This comment seems to cause people to doubt my sanity but what can I say, I'm telling the truth. The cornbread was moist which was good because I hate dry cornbread. The mashed potatoes were good, on the buttery side. The collared greens were good as well but I found that I really enjoyed mixing the greens and mashed potatoes together. Great combo.
