Caesar salad and seafood chowder. So good!

We stumbled upon this place after the original pkace we'd planned was fully booked. What a happy accident! They happened to have a soecial going - two starters, two mains and a bottle of wine for 40£. Not bad at all. Everything we had was very good, and it is evident that the staff care about service and the overall dining experience there.

Dukes Hotel was never somewhere I would have even considered in it's previous form. It has however been revamped and renovated recently and the chance is superb. Dukes at Queens is the new flagship restaurant nestling in the hotel building. It does a range of breakfast, lunch and dinner and prides itself on it's wood-fired traditional pizza oven. As far I remember the head chef used to work as a senior in Paul Rankin's kitchen which is something to be applauded. Anyway, the four of us sat down in the dinning area. Nicely wooded tables surrounding a huge stove in the middle for the pizzas. Bright, warm and airy inside you're immediately comfortable in your surroundings. We ordered a platter to share, a selection of antipasto. Superb. Thin slices of parma meaty, salty parma ham, thick chunks of fatty, oily salami, huge chunky, buttery and salty olives, fresh rocket and the star of the show, extra large capers. They were deliciously sweet and went brilliantly with the freshly baked bread provided. I thought the pizza oven needed to make it's impression so went for a simple pepperoni and jalapeño pizza. it did take a little bit longer than expected but it was certainly worth it. A reasonable size, covering a large plate. The crust was a little misshapen and bubbled which is usually a good sign of fresh dough. The base was crisp, not overly floured and topped with a thin layer of tangy tomato, stringy hot mozzarella and chunky pieces of pepperoni. Definitely one of the best pizzas I've had.

I adore Dukes at Queens. I come here for the fantastic pizza cooked in the middle of the restaurant in a huge oven- it really does make a difference! You can get whatever toppings you can think up on this and the large pizza is pretty big! The pizzas come out bubbling and slightly out of shape so you know they're good! They have a great wine list here and I love their Chianti! The restaurant is part of Dukes hotel and the luxury from the hotel winds its way effortlessly into the restaurant, whilst also enabling you to feel relaxed and at home. The staff are great and mix up a great cocktail. Dukes serves range of foods including Sandwiches, Soup, Panini's, Fish, Pasta dishes etc. But the Pizza's really are the main selling point!

Way back in the mists of time the drinking experience at Dukes was a rather rough and ready affair so when a friend suggested a quick drink there I had an involuntary shudder. Would it be full of drunken students and have a floor full of broken glass a la the mid-90's? Thankfully the place has changed beyond all recognition and after walking up the impressive steps and into the chic lobby I was ready for a whole different experience. We settled in the bar to the left and the décor can only be described as unique...I felt I had walked into a James Bond 'baddies' lair. The whole room was done out in purples and black with low slung leather chairs and glitzy mirrors on the walls. After a beer or two we began to settle into the environment and it was obviously a 'lost afternoon' could easily occur in here. Having plans for later we called it a day and headed out blinking into the hustle and bustle of Botanic Avenue. Pros: Laidback, large raised outside terrace, acclaimed brassiere next door. Cons: Pricey drinks.

Group of us got together to catch up and thought we would try Coppi. We had been here last year and…read morethey have since done a renovation. The place has comfortable seating, combination of booths and chairs. It's a very noisy place so if you're going with more than 2 or 3 people it will be difficult to have good conversations. We were well taken care of by several servers that kept water and drinks coming when requested. We started with the Focaccia with olive oil, Cerignola Olives, and Anchovy Toast, Stracciatella & Marinated Peppers. The starters were well received and everything was very good. We then placed our orders, too many to list here, but I had the pea and ham risotto and a companion had the gnocchi. It was requested that the gnocchi only have the tomato sauce but it arrived with the basil and cheese on top. The dish was okay but nothing spectacular. It was offered to remake it but we declined just for lack of time and holding up everyone's dinners. The pea and ham risotto had whole peas and several small slices of ham on it. This dish was like eating a plate of melted cheese with peas thrown in. It was hard to distinguish the risotto from anything else in the dish. The pistachios had a nice toasted flavor to them but the cheese just over powered everything else. Some of the other dishes ordered were the duck ragu (seemed well received), but the beef cheek dishes were not well received and had a number of comments that the quality and flavor wasn't there. From what we recall from last year not only was the restaurant renovated but so was the menu and I think we preferred the old menu. Not sure there will be a return visit if we come back to the city again.

By far the best meal I've had since coming to Ireland! This is conveniently located in St. Ann's…read moresquare. We made a reservation here a couple days ago and were seated quickly. There is a 4 course meal option here where you can get a starter, a pasta, another main entree (+£5 if you get the steak and +£6 if you get the market special fish, which in this case was halibut and was delicious), and a dessert for £46. I got beef carpaccio, beef ragu with papardelle, lamb, and tiramisu + my friends ordered some different dishes so we could all try a little of everything. The food was absolutely amazing! Service was attentive + friendly! It's definitely not cheap, but if you're looking for a good "treat yo'self" option in Belfast, look no further than here!

I hate it when restaurants do this, I can understand it for Christmas party bookings, but dislike when deposits are requested throughout the year. It would prevent me from returning with a large party in future. It's just a hassle trying to collect money from people you won't necessarily be seeing before an evening out. Alternatively one person has to cover the deposit before the meal, which is unfair and leaves them out of pocket until the night out. Other than this we had a good overall experience. Waiting staff were excellent and the menu is huge with a vast selection of dishes, even plenty of veggie options - burgers, pizzas, pastas etc. I ordered vegetarian fajitas which were served with a side of fries, 3 fajita pancakes, a large sizzling plate of mixed veg (mushrooms, peppers, onions, tomatoes) plus guacamole, sour cream and salsa. The guacamole and salsa weren't fresh, instead they seemed quite processed. But it was good food - not great - but filling, tasty and reasonable for the price. Our whole party enjoyed their meals. We also ordered dessert and the Banoffee Pie was absolutely gorgeous- though I did have dessert envy when I saw the Nutella Dough Balls some of the others ordered! Ginger, gin, beer and plenty of wine flowed. In total two courses, drinks and tips cost approximately £35 per person. A good night was had by all. This is a nice, casual, relaxed restaurant and I would return - but not with a large party as I dislike the insistence on a deposit and enforced service charge. Whilst I recognise the reasoning for these charges and appreciate they are becoming common in a lot of restaurants, I will primarily take my custom to establishments who don't insist on a deposit. A good, solid 3.5 stars from me...
