Popped in here one magical student loan day for my traditional 'I have money, lets get a steak' meal. This place really is a classy joint, just like the hotel it's attached to. For £39 you get a meal for two that includes a bottle of wine. To me that's bargain enough, especially seeing as the foods so good! I had the Rib-eye and it was cooked perfectly. The waiting staff was polite and helpful, calling over to see if everything was to our liking. It really was. If your in this part of town and want something a little classier than a £1 fry from the Other Place, then this is where to go!

Don't be afraid to step inside.

It is easy to miss this little bit of Belfast bistro joy, hidden slightly below the street on Botanic Avenue, but missing it would be a shame. Cosy and quiet, perfect for a little midweek date night, the early bird menu is a total bargain, with 2 courses and a glass of wine for only £15 quid. I opted for the goats cheese tart and a burger. The food was homely and warming in a restaurant stylee, and really good value for money. Sometimes an early bird menu wouldn't fill a hole in your tooth, but that really doesn't happen here! The only downside about this place was how quiet it was, as a little buzz would have been nice but then again for a school night in January no one's wallet expects a party time. I suppose being quiet can be a plus, as after this experience I'll be wanting a table another night!

Metro Bar is a really lovely bar. Excellent, polite and helpful service from the staff. Great range of gins and wines. It's a pleasure to visit. Have had some bar food or 'night bites' as they are called in the bar in the past and they've been delicious. Really must visit this spot more often. I see they also do an early bird menu in the adjoining Metro Restaurant offering a main course and glass of wine for £10.95 or two courses and a glass of wine for £14.95 - I will be back!

The Metro Brasserie is part of the Crescent link hotel and situated right opposite botanic station amid the studenty part of the city. Its really stylish and the whole place has a kind of boutique feel to it. The menu is really nice and has a bit of variety to it offering European dishes such as steaks, chicken and burgers whilst also delving into the Eastern world offering shredded duck spring rolls (yum yum!) and crispy thai beef. I went for the duck and then the pork and apple sausage and it was all superb! The food came out quickly (not too quick!) and it was all served really beautifully b lovely staff. I also really enjoyed the house white and their wine list was good. Prices vary and you'd expect to pay around £9/£10 for your main but it's all worth it! They also offer an Early Bird menu with delights such as the BLT, salads and steak and ale pie with champ to name but a few. Really nice place offering a little something for all tastebuds.

Barking Dog Restaurant - beef shin burger is definitely not your average burger

I've had my fair share of memorable burgers from coast to coast in America, but just glancing at a picture of the beef shin burger transports me back across the pond to the Barking Dog. I remember the few days I spent in Belfast fondly and of the many memories, my meal at the Barking Dog was a definite highlight. In a rather quaint and charming neighborhood, I took a nice short stroll from my Airbnb and came across this gem of an establishment and decided I had to check it out. I had a nice beer to start, and it wasn't a Guinness because stouts aren't my thing, but whatever it was I remember it being excellent and local. Undoubtedly you could make this place a regular haunt and there is no shortage of drinks and food options to make this a go-to for a date, celebration, or a quick meal. The staff are welcoming, kind, and helpful and the general atmosphere is chill. The food for me was ethereal - a burger isn't just a burger here and what you get when you bite into the beef shin burger is a little slice of Heaven. Moist and tender are a given but the taste is just so divine with the caramelized onion, cheddar, and horseradish mayo melding into an union of perfection. It's hard not to describe one of the most memorable meals of my life in such hyperbole but the vivid recall I have of this particular place is uncanny and merits all the praise I can heap upon the fine folks that run the place. If timing had worked out, I would have eaten as meals here as I could have but I'll thank my lucky stars for at least giving me one opportunity to eat such a wonderful burger at such a wonderful eatery. A+ and a definite must when visiting Belfast.

It seems weird that I haven't yet reviewed Solo, this is because I have always attended events at…read moreSolo and not actually had a genuine meal experience, that is until yesterday... The interior of Solo is sophisticated, without being overly fancy - this is a good thing, it has a real feeling of diversity - you get the impression that you could go in and feel comfortable having a meal in jeans and a T-shirt as well as a business suit. There's a real warmth to the staff, they always engage in a wee bit of banter and are always on hand to help you out with a smile. The menu is diverse, you can have Asian style food, Tapas or classics like a burger. Yesterday I opted for a starter of Salted Chili Chicken and I think I convinced most of my table to join me. The salted chili chicken is truly amazing, it's gourmet style so get the idea of a takeaway out of your head. The flavours are epic and the the dip on the side compliments the chicken perfectly. For main I went for a steak sandwich, when ordering I was asked how I wanted my steak cooked, even by asking this question it shows the chef has real pride in his food regardless of what it is! The steak came out cooked exactly to my specification, it was accompanied by a a side salad and rustic chips - perfect for what I wanted! Solo is the type of place that you could easily lose track of time in, it's got that stay bar type feel. If you're looking for somewhere for a big group then look no further the staff are easily capable of dealing with large groups! Top notch all round!

Well, well, well haven't Maze rebranded themselves well and now shine as Solo restaurant! I visited…read moretonight as part of a Yelp Secret Supper Event and was delighted with the service, wine, cocktails and gorgeous Vegetarian food I received. We were greeted on arrival with a glass of Sangria swimming with fresh, tangy fruit. I dined on a beautiful Vegetarian tapas platter of deep fried mozzarella sticks in sweet chilli sauce, bruschetta, olives, sundried tomatoes, manchego cheese and toasted almonds - pure lush (as per usual all my Carnivore friends were green with envy hahahahaha)! Dessert was a trio of cheesecake, rich chocolate pot and a chocolate torte. Wine wasn't too bad either, cocktails fabulous, service attentive and staff delightful. Will definitely be returning to Solo soon and am looking forward to my next visit. Plus the decor and atmosphere of this restaurant is modern and luxurious. Would highly recommend Solo as it's now a sensational spot.
