My go to
Nicola S.

I do love pizza express and especially the Leggera pizza which makes me feel like I am being semi healthy. This particular restaurant does not offer anything different than any other restaurant in the chain however I felt the service is great in this one we were greeted on arrival and given our choice of seats as it was quiet when we arrived however it didn't take long for it to fill up. I dined with Ciara S who had heard they offered a vegan pizza and the waiter was quick to point out which one this was. The Pollo Leggera pizzas as beautiful and tasty and I was offered additional Parmesan and garlic oil which added even more flavour to the pizza. Service was exceptionally quick and even when we had finished our meal we weren't made to feel like we needed to vacate the table immediately. A great example of a chain restaurant making it feel like one of a kind.

Pizza Express is a great place for a dinner, though the service was a little slow if I'm to be honest. We went here for our halls night out and the food seemed to take ages (but that could have been reflected on the company...) One person did happen to drop her entire pizza on the floor whilst trying to cut it and out of embarrassment did not ask for another one. We all shared and she had plenty. It was a grand night. The food is really good, a bit pricey certainly worth it. You can get literally anything on your pizza (that is edible) so if you fancy a pizza night out, and with a few pubs dotted around it, I would definately recommend it.

Got to love Pizza Express. As an ex-pizza artist from Pizza Hut I know what makes a good pizza...and Pizza Express did not fail to disappoint. The pizza base was perfectly thin, and their toppings were evenly finger spaced apart. Looks-wise it defeated dominos typically messy and rushed pizzas. Taste-wise I went for the American Hottest. This pizza "expressed" great taste with every bite. The waiter was friendly and had a bit of bant. He earned his £3 tip. The restaurant was busy for a Wednesday night but food still served on time. I left feeling a bit like Arnold Swarzenegor in Terminator. Saying to myself..."I'LL BE BACK!"

Male hostess rude and unfriendly. He really ruined the experience with his unfriendly cold unwelcoming attitude.

The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, however the pizza was very disappointing as it wasn't properly cooked.

It occupies the prime spot out of all the restaurants in Vic Square, the iconic glass corner tower ( ex Chiquito). Tony Macaroni is a large Scottish (Glasgow) chain of "Real Italian Food" run by Sep Marini. This is the second one in Northern Ireland (after Bangor). I brought my daughter as my plus one, a welcome distraction from AQE preparations!! She was so thrilled and excited as it was a surprise for her. The interior has all been totally refurbished with the main features being the bar and the open kitchen. On arrival we were very warmly met and seated by the Manageress. There was Prosecco on arrival but I opted for the sparkling water and Fanta for my daughter. The menu was very extensive, with lots of mouth watering, Italian named dishes and my daughter immediately spotted the calamari whilst I opted for the Gamberoni (prawns). After a few minutes our dishes arrived and looked incredible. They were big portions!! The squid was juicy and perfectly cooked and the garlic mayo and sweet chilli sauce accompanied them well, whilst the prawns were subtly flavoured with lemon, garlic and white wine and served with sticky rice. It didn't take us long to finish!! Spaghetti carbonara is a firm favourite for my two daughters and for me I love calzone, so I ordered the Americana and my daughter insisted on chips (I tried to dissuade her as I suspected the portions would be large). When the dishes arrived I was certainly right about the big portion sizes!! The carbonara was excellent (my daughters honest opinion!!) and I must say did taste excellent!! The chips were big fat fellows. My calzone was a bit plump round the edges but bursting with filling- the sausage, bacon and ham bursting out along with the tomato, cheese and onion and was tremendous! Alas bellies beat our eyes and we had to stop and leave room for desert!! We asked for the rest to be packed (so no 2 daughter wouldn't feel left out!!). For sweets my daughter chose the white chocolate sundae whilst I was recommended the toffee tablet cheesecake. When they arrived my daughters eyes lit up!! She immediately went to work, like a busy beaver, deconstructing it, peeling back the layers of cone, mint, cream, raspberries, vanilla and strawberry ice cream until the treasure of white chocolate was unearthed at the bottom. Meanwhile my toffee tablet cheesecake, topped with raspberries and blackberries and served with a pot of cream was equally indulgent. "Tablet" I hear you say, it's not medicinal but is what our Scots friends call butterscotch fudge. There were nice chunks on and in the creamy toffee cheesecake. The biscuit base was quite thin and the addition of the pot of cream was maybe too much!! This was all washed down with a cappuccino and hot chocolate. Well we could hardly move after all that!! The food was excellent and service was slick. We were given a nice gift bag containing a glass and bottle of Prosecco (for the wife of course!!) as well as the remains of the spaghetti and pizza (for no 2 daughter). I shall definitely be back with the rest of the family as there are a few dishes I want to try and I love the Presto menu for £5.95 (£6.95 on Sunday) and the breakfasts and the "Go Jimmy style" of having pizza/pasta half/half, a great way to share.

Barking Dog Restaurant - beef shin burger is definitely not your average burger

I've had my fair share of memorable burgers from coast to coast in America, but just glancing at a picture of the beef shin burger transports me back across the pond to the Barking Dog. I remember the few days I spent in Belfast fondly and of the many memories, my meal at the Barking Dog was a definite highlight. In a rather quaint and charming neighborhood, I took a nice short stroll from my Airbnb and came across this gem of an establishment and decided I had to check it out. I had a nice beer to start, and it wasn't a Guinness because stouts aren't my thing, but whatever it was I remember it being excellent and local. Undoubtedly you could make this place a regular haunt and there is no shortage of drinks and food options to make this a go-to for a date, celebration, or a quick meal. The staff are welcoming, kind, and helpful and the general atmosphere is chill. The food for me was ethereal - a burger isn't just a burger here and what you get when you bite into the beef shin burger is a little slice of Heaven. Moist and tender are a given but the taste is just so divine with the caramelized onion, cheddar, and horseradish mayo melding into an union of perfection. It's hard not to describe one of the most memorable meals of my life in such hyperbole but the vivid recall I have of this particular place is uncanny and merits all the praise I can heap upon the fine folks that run the place. If timing had worked out, I would have eaten as meals here as I could have but I'll thank my lucky stars for at least giving me one opportunity to eat such a wonderful burger at such a wonderful eatery. A+ and a definite must when visiting Belfast.
